Start by assessing the exposure: without shelter, choose an IP65 LED outdoor spotlight in aluminium such as the Albina or the Sylvara; under a canopy, an IP44 is enough. The format then follows the surface, from Ø 6 cm for a small wall to Ø 22 cm for a large terrace ceiling, and the light temperature is chosen last, depending on whether the area is used for working or for relaxing in the evening.

Which LED outdoor spotlight should you choose depending on the room to light?
For an exposed terrace or entrance, an IP65 model in aluminium such as the Albina or Sylvara spotlight stays outside without shelter; under a canopy, an IP44 is enough. The format follows the surface: from Ø 6 to 8.5 cm for a wall, up to Ø 22 cm for a large terrace ceiling.
An outdoor spotlight for an exposed terrace or under a canopy
On an open terrace, rain and splashes decide for you: stay with an IP65 rating and aluminium, the majority in LED outdoor spotlights. A covered terrace, a corridor or an entrance under a canopy tolerate IP44, lighter and often in plastic. The result does not change: a crisp pool of light on a wall that stays bright.
Which model for a wall, a ceiling or an entrance?
A wall accepts a small diameter, which blends away. A terrace ceiling calls for something wider: the Ø 22 cm of the Halvina covers a large area, while the Astriva at Ø 15.5 cm is enough over a walkway. For an entrance, the double Solvane lights two points with a single ceiling cut-out.
IP44 or IP65: which protection rating should you choose for an outdoor spotlight?
The protection rating indicates resistance to dust and water. In this selection, IP65 spotlights withstand water splashes and stay outside without shelter, while IP44 models are installed under a canopy, in a kitchen, corridor or bathroom, protected from direct jets.
What IP65 changes in the rain and on a facade
An IP65 accepts water projected onto its front face: this is the rating for models installed on a facade, at the edge of an uncovered terrace or near a downpipe. The Albina, Sylvara, Talvina and Ulyssa fall into this category, all in aluminium. If you want to match these spotlights to the rest of the house, note that the same selection is available in black.
IP44 in a sheltered area: covered terrace, kitchen, corridor
IP44 suits anywhere the spotlight does not receive water directly: under a canopy, in a corridor, above a worktop. Plastic lightens the weight on a ceiling, aluminium keeps a cleaner finish on a visible wall.
| Room or area | Suitable rating | Models in the selection | Light type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exposed terrace, facade, uncovered entrance | IP65 | Albina, Sylvara, Talvina, Ulyssa, Celian, Veldon, Velara, Blancor, Aldiva, Solvane | Neutral white or warm white |
| Covered terrace, corridor, living room | IP44 | Zorvane, Halvina, Protexa, Roslinessa, Astriva, Blanco | Neutral white or warm white |
| Kitchen and worktop | IP44 or IP65 | Blanco, Astriva, Zorvane, Protexa, Solvane | Neutral white for a crisp result |
| Bathroom | IP44 or IP65 | Albina, Halvina, Protexa, Astriva, Blancor, Aldiva, Sylvara, Talvina, Velara, Blanco, Solvane | Depending on the chosen temperature |
What lights whiter, cool white or warm white?
Neutral white, around 3500 to 4500 K, is the whitest and crispest to the eye: it suits a facade, a worktop or a corridor. Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, lights more softly and better accompanies a terrace where you sit in the evening.
Neutral white: facade, kitchen, worktop
Neutral white renders materials without yellowing them. It is the choice for work areas and walkways, and that of the Albina, Sylvara, Talvina, Protexa, Astriva and Celian. For a worktop, you will find these references in LED kitchen lighting, and for a living room, in living room spotlights.
Warm white: terrace and evening dining area
Warm white lowers the light without making it dull: this is the result of the Ulyssa, Veldon, Velara and Roslinessa. On a terrace where you dine, it extends the evening without dazzling the neighbours or lasting longer than necessary.
Should you choose a GU10 spotlight or an integrated LED spotlight?
GU10 lets you change the bulb yourself and choose its temperature: the GU10 models in the collection, Blancor, Aldiva and Solvane, are in aluminium and IP65. Integrated LED cannot be replaced, but requires no handling at all and covers power ratings from 6 to 24 W.
GU10: the bulb you replace yourself
With a GU10 base, the source is removed by hand, without tools, and the light temperature remains free. This is useful if you are still hesitating between neutral and warm, or if you want to match several points without changing the spotlights. The Blancor square with GU10 base and the Aldiva share this logic, at 10 W.
Integrated LED: nothing to change, from 6 to 24 W
Integrated LED is installed and forgotten: no handling, no risk of the wrong base. It covers small power ratings as well as large, from the 6 W of the Ø 6 cm models to the 24 W of the Protexa and Roslinessa. These models can be found among the recessed models for outdoor use.
How do you install a recessed LED spotlight outdoors?
Mark the position, drill at the diameter of the chosen spotlight, from Ø 6 cm for a small recessed model to Ø 22 cm for a large one, then run the power supply through the back and fix the spotlight in its housing. In an exposed area, water must not stagnate on the diffuser.
Prepare the surface and drill at the right diameter
Check the diameter before drilling: the formats in the selection range from Ø 6 cm, Ø 8.5 cm and Ø 9.7 cm up to Ø 15.5 cm, Ø 17 cm and Ø 22 cm. A hole saw at the right diameter avoids having to redo a cut that is too wide. On a light wall, white recessed spotlights blend into the plaster.
Connect and fix according to the spotlight format
Connection is done with the power off, then the spotlight is secured by its springs or screws, facing down on a ceiling, slightly angled towards the ground on a wall. If you prefer to direct the beam, compare with the white adjustable spotlights before drilling.
Round, square or double spotlight: which format should you choose?
The round shape, the majority in the collection, suits walls and ceilings where you want a discreet pattern. The Blancor square marks straight lines, and the double Solvane lights two close points with a single ceiling cut-out.
Round or square: which geometry for which surface?
A smooth wall or ceiling calls for round; a facade with straight lines, cladding, a slatted ceiling or a worktop accept the 8.5 cm square. The round shape also follows the white spotlights in most sizes.
Double spotlight on a plate: two points, a single cut-out
The double spotlight sits on a 9 x 17 cm plate, with two light points and a single cable passage. It is the solution for an entrance or corridor where you want two close beams without multiplying the drill holes. For a bolder design, look at the outdoor spotlights with a crafted design.
| Model | Format | Material | Rating | Base | Power | Temperature |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Albina | Ø 6 cm | Aluminium | IP65 | Integrated LED | 6 W | Neutral white |
| Blancor | W 8.5 x D 8.5 cm | Aluminium | IP65 | GU10 | 10 W | Depending on the bulb |
| Sylvara | Ø 8.5 cm | Aluminium | IP65 | Integrated LED | 12 W | Neutral white |
| Blanco | Ø 9.7 cm | Plastic | IP44 | Integrated LED | 7 W | Depending on the model |
| Halvina | Ø 22 cm | Plastic | IP44 | Integrated LED | 18 W | Depending on the model |
| Solvane | Double, W 9 x D 17 cm | Aluminium | IP65 | GU10 | 10 W | Depending on the bulb |
How do you match a white spotlight with a facade, wood or a ceiling?
White disappears on a light wall and highlights wood cladding or a dark wall. Aluminium, the majority in the selection, keeps a clean finish outdoors, plastic lightens the weight for a terrace ceiling. The minimalist style lets the wall material take over.
White on a light wall or on wood: what the opposite changes
On light plaster, the spotlight fades away and only the light remains visible. On wood cladding or a dark wall, the white circle becomes a graphic point, to be repeated regularly to form a clean line. One detail then changes the look: the thickness of the trim, thin on the Astriva.
Aluminium or plastic: which finish outdoors
Aluminium holds its colour and rigidity on a facade or terrace; plastic suits large ceiling sizes, where its weight goes unnoticed. The choice also depends on the rest of the house: browse our lighting collection to align the finishes, and the range of white LED spotlights to stay on the same shade indoors.
Can you dim the brightness and what does the Designix warranty cover?
Some of the models accept a dimmer, which lets you lower the light in the evening without changing the spotlight. The entire selection is covered by a 5-year warranty.
Dimmer: lowering the light on a terrace in the evening
A dimmer is only worthwhile if the room changes use between day and evening. In this selection, only some of the models are concerned, including the Ulyssa and Velara in warm white and the Talvina in neutral white. Find them among the dimmer-compatible references.
Warranty, delivery and returns: what is provided
Every spotlight in the collection is covered for 5 years. Payment is secure, delivery is tracked, returns remain possible, and the Designix customer service can confirm a diameter, a base or a rating before ordering. A doubt about a format is thus settled with one question.
Ordering the right spotlight: check the rating for the area, the drilling diameter for the surface, then confirm your basket. For an exposed terrace, the Albina IP65 spotlight remains the simplest starting point.
Frequently asked questions
Can you install a white LED outdoor spotlight in a kitchen or bathroom?
Yes, the kitchen is among the uses of all the models, the bathroom among some of them. In a kitchen, neutral white is preferred for a crisp result on the worktop, with options in the recessed worktop spotlights. In a bathroom, choose a rating suited to the proximity of water.
Can you complete these spotlights with an LED ceiling light or a powerful LED wall light?
Yes: spotlights handle precise areas, a ceiling light or a wall light illuminates a walkway or an entire room. The two combine without competing, provided you keep the same light temperature from one fixture to the other.
Do the spotlights in this selection work with a dimmer?
Only some of the models accept a dimmer. The others remain at fixed brightness. Check this point before choosing if you want to lower the lighting in the evening. Adjustable outdoor spotlights combine well with brightness adjustment to fine-tune the lit area.
What warranty covers these white LED outdoor spotlights?
The entire selection is covered by a 5-year warranty. At checkout, payment is secure, delivery is tracked, returns are possible and the Designix customer service remains available to confirm a format, a base or a protection rating before purchase.
What should you do if no electrical connection is possible outdoors?
In that case, solar spotlights with no wiring take over on a well-exposed terrace or wall. They are installed without a cable, where the recessed models in this selection require a power supply run behind the surface.
