Allow for an IP44 rating wherever there is steam or water spray, and only IP20 for a dry ceiling. This selection brings together recessed LED spotlights with integrated LED, in round or square format, in white, black, silver or bronze, some adjustable or dimmer compatible.
What is the IP44 standard?
The IP44 rating is read in two digits: the first, 4, protects against solid objects larger than 1 mm; the second, 4, against water spray. This is the level of almost all the IP44 LED spotlights in this selection. An IP44 LED luminaire therefore withstands splashes in a bathroom or kitchen, without being designed for immersion.
IP44 LED spotlight, IP44 LED bulbs and IP44 LED projector: the same digits?
The rating describes the housing, not the source. A recessed IP44 spotlight and an IP44 LED bulb show the same water protection, but the first has an integrated LED and the second screws onto a socket. The spotlights in this collection use integrated LED: there is no bulb to change.
IP44 or IP20: which to choose?
An IP20 is suitable for a dry ceiling, in a living room, hallway or bedroom. As soon as there is steam or spray, the IP44 rating is required. A large part of the selection is guaranteed for five years, which covers normal use of recessed lighting, across all our luminaires as in this family.
Can IP44 spotlights be installed in a bathroom?
Yes. IP44 spotlights withstand water spray, which matches bathroom use. Several models in the collection are indicated for this room, in particular round recessed versions. For a location directly exposed to jets, check the rating stated on the product page.
Recessed IP44 spotlight above the washbasin or mirror
Above a vanity top, two or three aligned points light the face without casting shadows. A discreet round format such as the round Lysa with flush trim disappears into the ceiling and lets the light work alone. The choice of format then comes down to the available ceiling surface.
IP44 bathroom pendant: what to check
An IP44 pendant is possible in a wet room, provided you take into account the location and mounting height. Near a shower or bathtub, a higher rating may be necessary. For a very graphic wet room, spotlights with refined design offer a recessed alternative.
Recessed IP44 spotlight or LED ceiling light: what to choose on the ceiling?
An LED ceiling light illuminates the room from a single point and is visible on the ceiling. Several recessed IP44 spotlights spread a more even light and disappear into the surface. The choice therefore depends on the area to cover and whether or not you want to see the luminaire on the ceiling.
LED ceiling light, LED wall light or LED chandelier: when a spotlight is not enough
A powerful ceiling light suits a room where you want a strong central light. A wall light adds accent lighting on a wall, a chandelier brings a decorative touch. These solutions combine very well with spotlights, provided you keep a similar light temperature between the sources.
Ceiling mounting: recessed or surface-mounted
Recessed requires a hollow support and a cut-out of the right diameter, which gives a clean ceiling. Surface mounting is content with a solid ceiling. In a circulation area or a large living room, several recessed points are better than a single point: see the LED spotlights for living room and the rest of our luminaire catalogue.
Which light temperature for an IP44 LED spotlight?
The collection offers two temperatures. Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, gives a light close to classic lighting, suited to the living room and hallway. Neutral white, between 3500 and 4500 K, makes whites sharper, which suits workspaces and the kitchen.
Warm white 2700 - 3500 K: in which rooms?
A warm light creates a relaxing atmosphere at the end of the day. This is the setting found on the white spotlights intended for the living room and hallway, such as the flush trim version.
Neutral white 3500 - 4500 K: for what use?
A whiter shade makes work colours readable, which helps above a kitchen worktop. The Protexa model in neutral white targets this use, to be combined with sources of the same shade in the room.
| Temperature | Range | Atmosphere | Models concerned |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warm white | 2700 - 3500 K | warm light, close to a classic bulb | Kalynda, Roslinessa |
| Neutral white | 3500 - 4500 K | whiter light, sharper whites | Protexa |
IP44 LED spotlight white, black, silver or bronze: which colour on the ceiling?
White blends into a white ceiling and stays discreet, especially with a flush trim. Black marks the ceiling and highlights contemporary decor. Silver and bronze bring a metallic finish. The choice comes down to the colour of the surface and the style of the room.
White and flush trim: the choice that disappears into the ceiling
On a painted ceiling, a white spotlight is barely noticeable once switched off. The small Blanco format plays this discretion card, with its slim trim. For a perfect match, the white recessed spotlights come in round and square.
Black, silver, bronze: when the colour shows
A dark or metallic finish becomes a pattern on the ceiling. It matches a graphic or industrial interior. The black models in the selection embrace this choice, and the Kalynda spotlight, adjustable and dimmer compatible, adds a gold reflector that warms the beam.
Do you need an adjustable or fixed IP44 LED spotlight?
An adjustable spotlight has a head that pivots: you can direct the beam towards a wall, a shelf or a worktop. A fixed spotlight sends light straight down and suits even general lighting. The adjustable one is useful for highlighting a specific point.
Adjustable spotlight: lighting a wall or a worktop
In the kitchen, an angled beam lights the worktop without casting shadows on your hands. Adjustable spotlights allow this setting, and recessed adjustable spotlights do it from a hollow ceiling, with no visible housing.
Fixed spotlight: even general lighting
In a hallway or living room, a beam straight down distributes light evenly, with no hot spot. The setting is then done with a dimmer rather than by pivoting the head: dimmable recessed spotlights are controlled from the switch intended for LED.
Which IP44 LED spotlight for the living room, kitchen or hallway?
The living room and hallway are the most represented rooms in this selection, ahead of the kitchen, entrance and dressing room. For a circulation area, well-distributed general lighting is enough. For a kitchen or a worktop, an adjustable model is preferred.
Living room and hallway: general light
In these two rooms, you look for evenness and discretion. A round white format works anywhere, a square one brings a clean outline. The Quadratis square fills this role at 14.5 x 14.5 cm. In a bedroom or on a staircase, it is better to reduce the power to avoid too bright a point: see the LED spotlights for bedroom and the staircase lighting.
Kitchen, entrance and dressing room: the areas to light
On a worktop, aim for the adjustable model and a neutral white shade. In an entrance or a dressing room, a few aligned points are enough to read a garment colour. The LED kitchen lighting and the recessed spotlights for kitchen gather the formats suited to these areas.
| Shape | Dimensions | Wattage | Models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round | Ø 9.7 cm | 7 W | Blanco |
| Round | Ø 12 cm | 12 W | Ivyra, Kalynda |
| Round | Ø 17.5 cm | 24 W | Lysa, Protexa, Roslinessa |
| Round | Ø 22 cm | 18 W | Halvina |
| Square | 14.5 x 14.5 cm | 18 W | Quadratis |
| Square | 17 x 17 cm | 24 W | Albora |
How to install and maintain an IP44 LED spotlight?
The spotlights in the collection have an integrated LED: there is no bulb to screw in, the complete module is replaced. Installation is done in a support suited to recessing. In a wet room, clean the luminaire with a soft cloth, without abrasive product.
What to check before wiring an IP44 LED spotlight
First check the cut-out diameter and the available depth, then the voltage and power supply stated on the product page. If the spotlight is advertised as dimmer compatible, check that the installed dimmer is suited to LED, otherwise the intensity will not go down correctly. Models with integrated LED do not accept third-party bulbs.
Maintaining an IP44 spotlight in a wet room
Cut the power before any handling. A soft cloth is enough to remove dust and limescale marks, without abrasive product or pressure washer. The five-year guarantee covers a large part of the selection. For a coherent interior, complete with the modern spotlights or metal spotlights.
Frequently asked questions about IP44 LED spotlights
What is the IP44 standard?
IP44 is a two-digit protection rating: the first, 4, for solid objects larger than 1 mm, the second, 4, for water spray. An IP44 spotlight therefore resists splashes and remains suited to a wet room, without being designed for immersion.
Can IP44 spotlights be installed in a bathroom?
Yes, the IP44 rating corresponds to the water spray of a bathroom. Several models in the collection are indicated for this room, including round recessed versions. For a location directly exposed to jets, it is better to check the rating stated on the luminaire page.
Is an LED ceiling light or recessed spotlights better?
The ceiling light illuminates from a central point and is visible on the ceiling. Recessed spotlights blend into the surface and spread light over several points. In a large room or a hallway, several spotlights give more even and more discreet lighting.
Are there dimmer-compatible IP44 LED spotlights?
Yes, part of the selection is advertised as dimmer compatible, provided the installed dimmer is suited to LED. The Kalynda spotlight, adjustable and dimmer compatible, is among these models. For the others, check the mention on the product page before purchase.
Which black IP44 LED spotlight to choose?
Two black models appear in the selection. One shows a contemporary style, the other is an adjustable spotlight with a gold reflector, dimmer compatible, with warm white light. Black is noticeable on the ceiling: it matches graphic decor.
