Allow for an IP65 rating for an entryway, a bathroom or a terrace, IP20 for a dry living room, then choose between the linear aluminium wall floodlight and the E27 pendant. RGB mode adds colour, it does not replace the white you need to actually live in the room.

What is an RGB floodlight?

An RGB floodlight is a light fitting equipped with red, green and blue LEDs whose blend produces coloured light, either fixed or animated. RGB mode refers to this three-channel control, via a dedicated remote, unlike a fixed white light floodlight.

What is RGB mode?

RGB mode refers to the way the fitting drives its three channels to compose a shade. A dedicated control, remote or radio module, varies the intensity of each channel and then the overall intensity. This setting is what sets RGB lighting apart from ordinary white lighting. To compare the models concerned, browse our RGB LED floodlights.

What are the different types of RGB LED?

RGB LEDs cover three channels, red, green and blue. RGBW LEDs add a dedicated white channel, cleaner for lighting than a blend of the three. Some versions aim for a warmer white, others for a cooler white. The technology chosen changes the white far more than the number of shades advertised.

What is the difference between RGB and RGBW?

RGB blends three channels, red, green and blue, to create coloured shades. RGBW adds a dedicated white channel, which gives a clean white to light a room normally without going through a blend of the three colours. The choice depends on whether the use is decorative or functional.

RGBW floodlights: what is the benefit of a true white?

A dedicated white channel renders a straightforward white, without the pinkish or greenish tint that a poorly balanced blend sometimes leaves. In a hallway or an entryway where you want to see clearly, that white matters more than the palette. RGBW therefore suits rooms that need to light like an ordinary fitting and take on colour from time to time.

Can you change the colour of an LED?

Yes, if the fitting contains RGB or RGBW LEDs and a dedicated control. A simple white LED does not change shade: its colour temperature is set at manufacture. So check the technology before buying if the colour has to change. Our range of LED floodlights gathers the fixed light models.

Where should you install an RGB floodlight?

Indoors, an RGB wall floodlight lights a hallway, a staircase or an entryway. Outdoors, it highlights a terrace, a facade or a garden. Around a pool, only waterproof models are suitable at the edges; underwater lighting requires specific equipment.

Outdoor RGB floodlight: terrace, facade and garden

An IP65 model holds up outside all year: rain, spray, watering. The beam can be aimed up a facade to highlight it, or along the ground for a terrace. In the garden, aiming at a bed or a trunk replaces general lighting. See our outdoor light fittings to light a garden.

RGB wall lighting for hallway, staircase and entryway

In a circulation area, the aim is to see without cluttering the way through: a grazing wall floodlight lights the steps and the wall. An adjustable model targets a precise point, a door or a frame. A hallway or a bedroom is often happy with a single high point, as in our bedroom lighting selection.

Pool lighting: surrounds and underwater

Around a pool, an IP65 floodlight is suitable. Underwater, you need a model designed for immersion, with the corresponding protection: see underwater pool lighting. The two uses are not interchangeable. For a bathroom or a toilet, rely on waterproof floodlights for wet rooms.

How do you choose your RGB floodlight?

First choose the protection rating according to the place: IP65 for a bathroom, an entryway, a terrace or outdoors, IP20 for a dry interior. Then come the power, the body material, the dimensions and the mounting method, wall or suspended.

Technical reference points for the models in the collection
Model Material Protection rating Power and base Dimensions Rooms indicated
18 W 24 V wall floodlight Aluminium IP65 18 W H 89 mm, W 40 mm, length 500 mm Hallway, staircase, bedroom, living room, entryway, bathroom, terrace, outdoors
36 W 24 V wall floodlight Aluminium IP65 36 W H 89 mm, W 40 mm, length 1,000 mm Hallway, staircase, bedroom, living room, entryway, bathroom, terrace, outdoors
36 W adjustable wall floodlight Aluminium IP65 36 W H 123 mm, W 40 mm, length 1,000 mm Hallway, staircase, bedroom, living room, entryway, bathroom, terrace, outdoors
Cinéa adjustable pendant Plastic and metal IP20 40 W, E27 base, warm white 2700 to 3500 K Height 150 cm Living room, kitchen, dining room

IP65 or IP20: which protection rating should you choose?

The protection rating describes resistance to water and dust. IP65 covers wet rooms and outdoors: bathroom, entryway, hallway, terrace. IP20 is enough in a dry interior, living room, kitchen or dining room. It is the first criterion to settle, before power or style.

Which protection rating for which place
Protection rating Suitable environments Models concerned
IP65 Wet rooms and outdoors: bathroom, entryway, hallway, terrace The Zambelis wall floodlights
IP20 Dry interior: living room, kitchen, dining room The Cinéa pendant

18 W, 36 W or 40 W: how do you read power?

Power expresses what the fitting consumes and, in practice, the intensity it delivers. An 18 W suits a short wall or accent lighting, a 36 W a facade or a long run. Length matters just as much: 500 mm or 1,000 mm do not cover the same wall. See the 18 W dark brown linear model and the 36 W version of the linear floodlight.

Aluminium, plastic or metal: which material should you favour?

An aluminium body dissipates heat better, which affects LED lifespan and outdoor durability. Plastic and metal are found on indoor fittings, which are lighter. For outdoor use or a wet room, aluminium remains the safest choice. Compare with our waterproof light fittings.

Wall floodlight or pendant: which format for which room?

A linear or adjustable wall floodlight dresses a hallway, a staircase or an entryway, where you want grazing light without cluttering the way through. An E27 pendant is more for the living room, the kitchen or the dining room, above a worktop or a table.

Format and room: which fitting to choose
Room or area Recommended format What it brings
Hallway and staircase Linear or adjustable wall floodlight, IP65 Grazing light that does not clutter the way through
Entryway, bedroom, dressing room Adjustable aluminium wall floodlight Precise aiming on a wall or a point
Living room, kitchen, dining room E27 pendant, IP20 Light centred above the table or worktop
Bathroom, terrace, outdoors IP65 wall floodlight Suited to wet rooms and outdoor spaces

Industrial pendant for living room, kitchen and dining room

Above a table or an island, the pendant concentrates light where you eat and work. An adjustable model lets you shift the beam. The E27 base lets you choose the bulb, and therefore the white temperature. This is the format to choose for the Cinéa E27 pendant, an industrial light fitting.

Adjustable wall floodlight for staircase and hallway

An adjustable model is set after installation: you graze the wall or aim at a step, without drilling again. At 1,000 mm long, it covers a whole stretch of wall; at 500 mm, it fits a shorter surface. See the 36 W graphite adjustable wall floodlight.

Which light colour should you choose: warm white, cool white or RGB?

Warm white, around 2700 to 3500 K, gives a soft light for a living room or a bedroom. Cool white appears brighter at equal power and suits technical spaces. RGB does not replace white: it adds a coloured mood.

What lights more, cool white or warm white?

At equal power, cool white gives a brighter and more contrasted impression. Warm white lights just as much, but appears softer to the eye. The difference therefore lies in the perceived rendering, not in the amount of light emitted. For a worktop, a neutral white is often preferred.

What is the best LED colour?

There is no best colour in absolute terms. Warm white suits living areas, neutral or cool white suits workspaces, RGB shades suit mood. The right choice depends on the room and the moment. Our light fitting catalogue reads room by room.

Which light colour helps you fall asleep?

To fall asleep, favour a warm light, around 2700 to 3500 K, at reduced intensity. Very cool or very saturated shades are more stimulating. A dimmable intensity in the evening helps maintain that comfort, as on our dimmable ceiling lights.

How do you install, aim and maintain an RGB floodlight?

A wall floodlight is mounted on the appropriate bracket and then aimed to graze the wall or target a precise point. Some models run on 24 V without a driver, others have one built in. For maintenance, a soft cloth is enough, with no abrasive product on the aluminium.

Wall mounting and beam aiming

Cut the power before working, mark the fixing points, then tighten without forcing on the bracket. A 24 V supply means checking driver compatibility: some models have one built in, others do without. Once installed, set the angle by hand, in daylight, before judging the result in the evening. For large spaces, look at our floor-standing floodlights and LED floodlights for garages.

Cleaning and durability of aluminium

A soft cloth and a little soapy water are enough to remove dust and marks. Avoid abrasive products and solvents on aluminium, which dull the finish. An aluminium body dissipates heat, which helps the LEDs last. For constant outdoor use, a version with a motion sensor limits unnecessary switching on.

Warranty, delivery and returns: what makes a purchase safe

Payment is secure, delivery is tracked, returns are regulated and the Designix customer service remains reachable to check compatibility before ordering.

Secure payment and tracked delivery

You order with secure payment and track the shipment from start to finish. Before confirming, check the model length, the protection rating and the power supply method: that is what avoids a return trip. If in doubt, compare the models in the selection or ask customer service.

2 or 3 year warranty depending on the model

The warranty covers manufacturing defects, not wear or poor installation. Keep the invoice and the reference of the fitting. An aluminium body, a rating suited to the place and a compliant power supply all affect the real lifespan. To go further, see our outdoor light fittings and how to choose a fitting suited to the room.

Frequently asked questions about RGB floodlights

What is an RGB bulb?

An RGB bulb contains red, green and blue LEDs whose blend produces colours. It screws into a standard base, E27 for example, and is controlled by a dedicated remote to change shade and intensity. It differs from an ordinary white bulb by its coloured channels.

What is the best LED floodlight brand?

The brand matters less than the specifications: a protection rating suited to the place, an aluminium body to dissipate heat, power consistent with the use, mounting and warranty. Here, many models come with a 3 year warranty, which matters more than a logo.

Can you change the colour of an LED?

Yes, when the fitting contains RGB or RGBW LEDs and a dedicated control. The blend of the three channels, red, green and blue, covers a wide palette, with or without a dedicated white. A simple white LED, on the other hand, keeps the same shade.

Which light colour is most effective for falling asleep?

A warm light, around 2700 to 3500 K, at reduced intensity. Very cool or very saturated shades are more stimulating. A dimmable intensity setting in the evening helps maintain that comfort in a bedroom.

Can you install a floodlight near a pool?

For the edges of a pool, choose a waterproof model such as an IP65, designed for wet rooms and outdoors. To light underwater, you need a pool floodlight designed for immersion. The two uses are not interchangeable.
