An entryway is lit with two sources: an adjustable spotlight on the ceiling for the walkway and the door, and a wall light to give the wall some relief. All the models in this selection are installed indoors, at IP20, and suit an entryway as well as a hallway, and some of them a dressing room.
What lighting for an entryway?
Plan for two light points rather than one: an adjustable spotlight above the walkway, a wall light on the side wall. You light first what you look at when you arrive, the floor, the handle, the face, and not the ceiling. A single point in the centre leaves shadows in the corners and ages badly.
Light fitting for a home entryway: the areas to light
Three areas matter: the floor in front of the door, the door with its handle and lock, and the wall where you put down your keys. A selection of light fittings that covers these three areas is enough. A spotlight aimed downwards lights the walkway, a second aimed at the door secures the opening, and a low wall light dresses the wall without crushing it.
Entryway spotlight: why the adjustable head changes everything
A head that pivots lets you aim at the floor rather than the back of the room, which avoids dazzling the person arriving. Adjustable spotlights are set once and for all after installation. In a narrow hallway, that setting alone replaces a second light fitting.
Recessed spotlight, surface-mounted spotlight or wall light: which mounting to choose?
The choice depends on ceiling height and wall finish. A recessed spotlight disappears into a flat ceiling and slims down a narrow entryway, a surface-mounted spotlight is installed without any cut-out, and a wall light frees the ceiling while lighting the wall. Check the space available before ordering.
| Type of spotlight | Mounting | Socket | Height or diameter | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Round recessed spotlight | in the ceiling | GU10 | ø10 cm, depth 4 cm | Vidar |
| Cylindrical spotlight | recessed or surface-mounted | GU10 | ø8.5 cm, H 9 cm | Giselle |
| Spotlight on a bar | surface-mounted on the ceiling | GU10 | H 18 cm, two heads | Aveno |
| Tube spotlight | surface-mounted on the ceiling | GU10 | H 80 cm, ø6 cm | Sillinella |
| Clip-on spotlight | clip on a support | E27 | ø13 cm, H 22 cm | Ferro |
| Adjustable wall light | on the wall | E14 | ø12 cm | Bali |
Pendant light for an entryway: when the ceiling allows it
Under a ceiling of at least 2.50 m, a pendant light can hang down without getting in the way; keep 2.10 m clear below its lowest point. Otherwise, go for surface mounting: a slim black tube spotlight brings the light down 80 cm without putting anything on the floor. To link an entryway and a hallway, look at the spotlights for lighting a hallway.
Recessed spotlight or surface-mounted spotlight, which to choose?
A recessed spotlight requires a cut-out in the ceiling, so a solid and deep enough support, and it is barely noticeable once installed. A surface-mounted one screws on directly and comes off without a trace. In an old entryway with an uneven ceiling, surface mounting remains the simplest solution.
Which spotlight for a cathedral entryway or a high ceiling?
Several adjustable spotlights spread across the ceiling are better than a single source: under a large volume, the light is lost before reaching the floor. A spotlight with a 45 cm long stem brings the source closer to the floor, and a wall light gives the wall rhythm.
Light fitting for a cathedral entryway: setting the height
Aim for light that reaches the floor, not the ceiling. A tube 45 cm high brings the source down without hanging to the level of people's heads. For a very high volume, combine two tubes at different heights rather than relying on a single light point.
Large chandelier for a high ceiling: the adjustable spotlight alternative
A large chandelier fills the volume but mainly lights the top of the room. Several adjustable spotlights give a comparable result by directing each beam where it is useful. Modern-style spotlights in black metal stay discreet under a high ceiling.
How to choose your entryway spotlight: socket, ingress protection, wattage and dimmer?
The socket determines the bulb: GU10 for a directed beam, E27 or E14 for a wider light, GX53 for a flat format, and some references already include an LED. The whole collection is IP20, so intended for indoor use. The stated wattage ranges from 8 to 40 W depending on the model.
| Model | Material | Socket | Wattage or temperature | Style |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Myrrha | metal and steel | GU10 | 8 W | modern, minimalist |
| Callinissa | metal and steel | GU10 | 8 W | modern, minimalist |
| Brossa | plastic and metal | GU10 | 10 W | contemporary |
| Neressa | plastic and metal | integrated LED | 2 x 8 W, warm white 2700 to 3500 K | modern |
| Ondica | plastic and metal | E27 | 40 W | contemporary |
| Bali | bamboo and metal | E14 | 40 W | bohemian |
GU10, E27, E14 or GX53 socket: what it changes
GU10 concentrates the beam and is replaced in one movement, which makes it the socket for entryway light fittings aimed at the floor. E27 takes wider bulbs, E14 stays compact, GX53 slips into a flat housing. Check the socket before buying the bulb. Some models accept a dimmer, to be found among the dimmable spotlights.
IP20: where to install the spotlight and where to avoid it
IP20 means protection against solid objects, with no protection against water. These spotlights are installed in a sheltered entryway, hallway or dressing room. Under a porch exposed to rain, they are not suitable: you then need an outdoor model, absent from this selection.
Which light colour and which finish for an entryway?
Warm white between 2700 and 3500 K sits alongside spotlights with interchangeable bulbs, where you choose the temperature yourself. On the finish side, black dominates, accompanied by white, silver, anthracite and beige to match the spotlight to the wall or ceiling.
Light colour for living room and entryway: should the temperature be the same?
The same temperature, around 3000 K, avoids a break between two rooms that communicate. The Neressa states a warm white from 2700 to 3500 K. For a living room open onto the entryway, keep the same value on both sides: otherwise the eye perceives a change of shade as you pass.
Black, white or silver spotlights: how to match the finish
Black blends into a dark ceiling and stands out on a light white wall. Matte black finishes dominate the selection, the white colourway blends into a painted ceiling, and silver goes with the stainless steel and chrome of metal spotlights. When the entryway opens onto the kitchen, the same family of black spotlights creates a consistent modern kitchen decor, to be found in the LED spotlights for the kitchen.
How to install and maintain an entryway spotlight?
The spotlight is fixed to the ceiling or wall, connected to the existing mains, then adjusted by rotating the head. Cleaning is done dry or with a soft cloth, without abrasive product on the metal. The warranty runs from 2 to 5 years depending on the model.
How to aim the spotlights in an entryway?
Aim the first at the floor in front of the door, the second at the lock. Avoid aiming at a white wall at eye level: that is where glare comes from. Set the heads once installation is complete, then tighten the ball joints so they no longer move.
How to clean a metal spotlight without damaging the finish?
A soft cloth is enough. On aluminium and steel, avoid abrasive powders and scouring pads, which scratch and dull the surface. Dust the lens with a dry brush. Switch off the power at the circuit breaker before any work on the light fitting.
What lighting for the hallway, the WC and the rooms adjoining the entryway?
From a hallway to a kitchen or a staircase, the principle stays the same: one point per area to be lit, adjustable to aim at the floor or a worktop. Line up the spotlights from the entryway through to the hallway to avoid breaks in the light. The Neressa with two heads covers an entryway and its landing on its own.
Light fittings for WC and toilets: what works
In a WC, a single light point is enough, aimed at the floor or installed as a wall light. The Bali wall light is documented for toilets, with its woven shade. At IP20, it stays indoors. For living rooms, see the LED spotlights for the living room and the spotlights for the bedroom.
Wall light for an indoor staircase
An adjustable wall light placed at each level lights the steps without dazzling. Those specifically designed for staircases are fixed to the wall, at hand height. For an open stairwell, complete with LED spotlights for staircases aimed at the steps.
Compare the Giselle cylindrical spotlight and the Velma clip-on spotlight depending on whether you fix to the ceiling or to a support. Tracked delivery, secure payment, returns and Designix customer service accompany every order.
What lighting trends for an entryway in 2026?
The selection moves towards discreet lighting: slim cylindrical spotlights in metal, black finishes, adjustable heads and warm white LED. A dimmer remains possible on some models. All are IP20, so designed for indoor use.
Ceiling light for a modern kitchen: which spotlight to choose
A multi-head adjustable ceiling spotlight lights both the table and the worktop. GU10 bar models are adjusted independently of one another. Discover the modern spotlights for the kitchen, including the Ondica ceiling spotlight in E27.
Discreet spotlight or visible spotlight: what effect in an entryway
Recessed, the spotlight disappears and only the light remains. Surface-mounted or as a tube, it becomes a deliberate decorative feature. Designer spotlights are chosen for their line as much as for their beam, provided they stay consistent with the rest of the entryway.

Frequently asked questions about entryway spotlights
What lighting for an entryway?
Plan for two light points: an adjustable spotlight fixed to the ceiling to light the door and the walkway, and a wall light that lights the wall without dazzling. In this collection, all models are IP20, so reserved for indoor use.
What are the lighting trends for 2026?
The models in this selection move towards minimalism: slim metal cylinders, black finishes, adjustable heads and warm white LED. A dimmer remains possible on some references. These choices correspond to a search for discreet, adjustable lighting, rather than a single very visible source.
Which light fitting for a WC or toilets?
For a WC, a single light point is enough: a spotlight aimed at the floor, or a wall light. The Bali reference is the only one in the collection documented for toilets, with its woven shade. At IP20, these light fittings stay indoors.
How to light an entryway and a hallway?
Line up the same spotlights from the entryway through to the hallway to avoid breaks in the light. Recessed or cylindrical GU10 models, aimed at the floor, are enough, provided they are spaced regularly so as not to leave dark areas between two points.
Which ceiling light for a modern kitchen?
A multi-head adjustable ceiling spotlight lights both the table and the worktop. GU10 bar models, such as the Aveno, are adjusted independently of one another. Reserve for an indoor kitchen: all the models in the selection are IP20.
Which light colour for a living room?
A warm white light, between 2700 and 3500 K, remains the reference for a living room. It softens materials and avoids the bluish rendering of a cold white. Some spotlights in the collection include a warm white LED directly, with no bulb to add.
Which wall light for an indoor staircase?
An adjustable E14 wall light, placed at each level, lights the steps without dazzling. The Bali reference, in bamboo and metal, is documented for staircases. Its IP20 ingress protection makes it suitable for indoor use only.
Which light fitting for a cathedral entryway?
Under a large volume, it is better to multiply adjustable points on the ceiling than to rely on a single source. A long-stem spotlight, such as the Novlinilo 45 cm high, brings the light closer to the floor. The goal is to light people, not the ceiling.
