Plan one LED spotlight per area to be lit rather than a single point in the centre: in a living room, aim for the back wall and the coffee table, in a kitchen, the worktop. This selection brings together LED spotlights, all IP20, with integrated LED or GU10 base, mostly in aluminium, to be recessed in a false ceiling or mounted on a track.
Which LED spotlight to choose depending on the room?
In the living room and kitchen, a recessed or track-mounted spotlight that lights a precise area is preferred, usually in warm white. For a hallway, an entrance or a dressing room, a compact 8 W to 10 W model is enough. Diameters range from about 3.5 cm to 14 cm depending on the model.
Which LED spotlight for a living room?
A poorly lit living room is recognisable by its light falling straight down in the centre and leaving the walls dark. The useful move: place the points around the perimeter and reserve the centre for softer light. The 12 W power rating is the most represented in this selection, and an adjustable model can be aimed at the sofa or a bookshelf after installation. Browse the living room spotlights if you are first looking for the ambience effect.
Which LED spotlight for a kitchen?
In a kitchen, light is judged on the worktop, not on the ceiling: a spotlight placed behind you casts the shadow of your hands on the chopping board. So align the points above the worktop, in neutral white, with one point per work area. The Focus LED Spot black, in aluminium, suits this use, and the kitchen spotlights gather the suitable formats.
Which LED spotlight for a hallway, an entrance or a dressing room?
A hallway needs regularity more than power: 8 W points spaced at the same distance light better than one strong point in the middle. In a dressing room, light the rails and not the eyes, which requires a compact model aimed upwards or towards the wall. The Spot Tecno black comes in several sizes, including a very compact version, to be found in the black versions.
LED spotlight, ceiling light, chandelier or wall light: what to choose on the ceiling?
The LED spotlight lights a precise area and is multiplied to cover a room; the LED ceiling light lights the whole room from a single point, the chandelier adds a decorative piece in the centre, and the LED wall light lights a wall or a passage. The choice depends on the surface and the light wanted.
When to choose a spotlight rather than an LED ceiling light?
The spotlight wins as soon as a room has several uses: reading on one side, coffee table on the other, circulation at the back. The ceiling light is better suited to a single, centred room, where one point is enough. In an entrance or a long hallway, the wall light completes the ensemble well, and you will find these other families in all our light fittings.
Powerful LED ceiling light or several spotlights in a large room?
A large living room benefits from combining: a few spotlights on the ceiling for general light, a wall light or a track for accent. A single very powerful source creates a hot spot and dark corners, whereas several more modest sources spread the light. The range of spotlights covers both approaches, recessed or surface-mounted.
How to arrange spotlights on the ceiling of a living room?
First define the areas to be lit, the wall, the coffee table and the passages, then align the spotlights on these axes at regular intervals, keeping the same distance from the edge of the wall. Power ratings of 5 W to 12 W are enough for several points, and an adjustable spotlight can be aimed at the desired area.
LED ceiling spotlight: fixed or adjustable?
The fixed one points straight down and suits a regular row, in a hallway or above a continuous worktop. The adjustable one can be readjusted after installation, which makes up for an approximate layout or a moved piece of furniture. Adjustable spotlights are the safe choice when the layout plan is not yet decided.
How to light a wall without glare?
Move the spotlight about thirty centimetres away from the wall and tilt it towards the wall rather than towards the room: the light bounces off the surface and becomes indirect. A narrow beam directed downwards, at eye level, causes glare. Adjustable LED spotlights allow this fine adjustment after installation.
Black or white LED spotlight, tube or round: which model for which style?
A black spotlight stands out on a white ceiling and blends into a dark track; a white spotlight blends into a light ceiling. The tube shape, the most common, follows an aligned row, the round shape marks an isolated point. Aluminium dominates the materials, plastic and steel complete the selection.
Black or white LED spotlight: how to decide?
The question is settled by contrast: on a ceiling painted white, a black spotlight draws a deliberate graphic line, while a white model disappears and leaves only the light visible. Both go well with a modern or minimalist interior. Compare the white spotlights and the dark versions before fixing the ceiling colour.
Tube LED spotlight or round LED spotlight?
The tube format aligns naturally in series and keeps a sober line on a track or in a false ceiling. The round one, less common, marks a single point more strongly and suits an entrance or a staircase. Designer LED spotlights play precisely on these shapes to give character to a room.
GU10 base or integrated LED: what differences?
An integrated LED spotlight keeps the same rendering without a bulb to change and is chosen in 5 W, 8 W, 10 W, 12 W or 20 W depending on the model. A GU10 spotlight takes a bulb that can be replaced, which allows changing the temperature or the power. Some models accept a dimmer.
| Criterion | GU10 spotlight | Integrated LED spotlight |
|---|---|---|
| Bulb | Replaceable | Integrated, not replaceable |
| Observed power ratings | Depends on the bulb fitted | 5 W, 8 W, 10 W, 12 W or 20 W |
| Light temperature | Set by the chosen bulb | Most often warm white |
| Common materials | Aluminium, metal or steel | Aluminium or plastic |
| To choose if | You want to adjust the light | You want a consistent rendering |
GU10 LED spotlight: what advantages in daily use?
The GU10 gives you control over the light: you replace a tired bulb without dismantling the spotlight, and you change a too cold temperature for a warmer one. It is also the solution when a room mixes several points of different ages. The Spot on track black Lior and the Spot Zen 1 light white adopt this base, like most GU10 spotlights.
Dimmable LED spotlight: which rooms benefit?
A bedroom or a living room used during the day and in the evening benefits from lowering the intensity without switching off. Not all models accept it, and this point is indicated on the product sheet. The Otéa multi-head spotlight comes in two, three or four heads, and the dimmable spotlights gather the compatible references.
Warm white, neutral white or cool white: which temperature to choose?
Warm white, from 2700 to 3500 K, recalls the classic bulb and suits the living room, the bedroom or the dining room. Neutral white, from 3500 to 4500 K, lights a kitchen more frankly. Cool white, from 4500 to 6500 K, remains reserved for work areas.
| Room | Suitable spotlight type | Recommended temperature | What matters on site |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Recessed adjustable or on track | Warm white 2700-3500 K | Light the walls, calm the centre |
| Kitchen | Recessed or track above the worktop | Neutral white 3500-4500 K | One point per area, not behind you |
| Hallway | Recessed with small diameter | Warm white | Regular spacing along the length |
| Entrance | Recessed or short track | Warm white | Light the threshold and the furniture |
| Dressing room | Compact recessed 5 to 8 W | Neutral white | Light on the rails |
Warm white LED spotlight: for which rooms?
Warm white is the most common in this selection: it provides light close to the filament bulb and relaxes a rest room. In a bedroom, it avoids the hospital feeling given by too white lighting before sleeping. Discover the corresponding models in the LED spotlights for bedroom.
Do some spotlights change temperature?
Yes. The Spot warm white Noria offers two temperatures in the same reference, warm white or cool white, which leaves the choice at the time of installation or later. It is useful in a versatile room that serves as an office during the day and a living room in the evening. See the Noria spotlight for this two-temperature operation.
How to install and maintain an LED spotlight?
The spotlights in this selection are IP20: they are installed indoors, in a dry room, recessed in a false ceiling or fixed on a track. Connection is made with the power off, following the instructions, and changing a GU10 bulb requires no special tool.
Is an IP20 LED spotlight suitable for a bathroom or outdoors?
No. IP20 means protected against solid objects and no water: these models are intended for dry rooms. In a bathroom, steam requires a higher rating, often linked to very low voltage, and outdoors you need a rain-resistant model. See the bathroom lighting and the outdoor spotlights for these uses.
How to clean an LED spotlight without damaging it?
Switch off the power, let it cool, then wipe the trim with a soft slightly damp cloth, without abrasive product or water spray on the unit. Thick dust on a recessed spotlight is removed with a soft brush. Changing a GU10 bulb is limited to unscrewing and screwing back, with the spotlight off.
Adjustable or fixed LED spotlight: which to choose?
An adjustable spotlight is set after installation: it aims at a wall, a picture or a worktop without having to change the model, which also makes up for an approximate layout. A fixed spotlight points straight down and is enough for regular general lighting, in a hallway as on a kitchen row.
Adjustable LED spotlight: in which rooms to use it?
Wherever an object matters more than the room: above a sofa, a sideboard or a work board. In a living room, two or three adjustable ones are enough to create an atmosphere without multiplying the sources. The Focus LED Spot black is adjusted this way, and the recessed ceiling models offer the same adjustment in a flush version.
Extra flat recessed LED spotlight: which criterion to check?
First check the recess depth available above the ceiling: a thin false ceiling cannot take a deep unit. The cut-out diameter also matters, as does the base, integrated LED or GU10, depending on the space left behind. The Cielo white recessed spotlight suits this type of installation.
Frequently asked questions about the LED spotlight
How to arrange spotlights on the ceiling of a living room?
Start with the areas to be lit: the back wall, the coffee table, the circulation. The spotlights align on these axes at regular intervals, with the same distance from the edge of the wall. An adjustable model of 5 W to 12 W allows adjusting the beam after installation.
Which LED spotlight to choose for a kitchen?
Aim for the worktop rather than the centre of the room: recessed or track spotlights placed above the worktop, in neutral white, light without casting shadows on your hands. An 8 W to 12 W model is enough per work area.
What are the disadvantages of LEDs?
The light of an LED spotlight is directional: it lights an area and leaves the rest darker, hence the benefit of multiplying several. Cool white can appear harsh in a living room, and a GU10 spotlight requires choosing a bulb. An IP20 remains limited to dry rooms.
Is a dimmable LED spotlight useful in a bedroom?
Yes, if you want to lower the light in the evening without switching off: a dimmer-compatible spotlight adjusts progressively, which suits a bedroom or a living room used during the day and in the evening. Not all models accept it, this point is on the product sheet.
Can an indoor LED spotlight be installed outdoors?
No: the models in this selection are IP20, a rating intended for dry indoors. Outdoors, rain and humidity require a higher protection rating, and sometimes a very low voltage supply.
Choosing your LED spotlight and placing an order
Once the room, the temperature and the base are decided, all that remains is to settle the colour and the shape. A light ceiling calls for a white model or a deliberate black, a large room benefits from mixing recessed ones and a spotlight track for flexibility. For a hallway or a staircase, the adjustable recessed LED spotlights settle the tricky points after installation.
The Designix shop provides secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and a customer service reachable to check a cut-out diameter or dimmer compatibility before validating the basket.
