Start with the colour temperature: a 4000K spotlight gives a neutral white, between 3500 and 4500 K, neither yellow like 2700K nor bluish like 6000K. This collection brings together 4000K LED spotlights in aluminium, track-mounted or recessed, adjustable or fixed, in black or white, including one IP65 model.
What is a 4000K spotlight and what light does it give?
A 4000K spotlight gives a neutral white light. In this selection, every model sits between 3500 and 4500 K: the white stays crisp, colours read without a yellow cast and the room does not turn blue. It is the most versatile shade for a living room as well as a kitchen.
What is 4000K?
Kelvin describes the shade of the light, not its power. A 4000K spotlight can be discreet or very bright, and the flux shown on the product page tells you which. Every model in this collection uses LED technology, with an integrated LED base, in aluminium, and comes with a 5-year warranty.
4000K or 3000K spotlight: what is the difference?
A 3000K leans warm, with a slight yellow cast that recalls halogen. A 4000K stays neutral: a white worktop looks white, a book keeps its colours. To compare more widely, browse our full lighting catalogue.
Is 4000K white or yellow?
4000K is white, with no yellow cast. It is cooler than a warm 2700K, but far from the blue of a 6000K. In a windowless hallway, this neutral white avoids the cellar feel that overly warm lighting can give during the day.
How to choose the power of a 4000K LED spotlight?
Power is chosen according to the surface to be lit and the mounting height. In this selection, each model has its own power. The product page gives the power and the actual flux of the model.
4000K 5W spotlight: what is it for?
A 5 W suits a shelf, a small surface or a supplement to existing lighting. The Ovelio spotlight is adjustable, in white, and can be aimed at the exact spot to highlight. At this power level, you are after accent rather than general light.
4000K 8W or 12W spotlight: which step to choose?
The 8 W step does not exist in this collection: the closest models are 6 W (Lirien, Brielle) and 12 W (Kaelan, Mirael, Lurenzo, Nubra, Radian, Sylvara). For everyday lighting, 12 W covers a good part of a living room. See black LED spotlights and kitchen spotlights.
| Power | Models mentioned | Recommended use |
|---|---|---|
| 2 W | Cuspis | Highlight a precise point, supplement existing lighting |
| 5 W | Ovelio | Small surfaces, additional lighting |
| 6 W | Lirien, Brielle | Worktops, close-range lighting |
| 12 W | Kaelan, Mirael, Lurenzo, Nubra, Radian, Sylvara | Everyday lighting for living room and kitchen |
| 18 W | Cortix | Large surface covered by a single line |
| 24 W | Luxem, Mirva, Noctal, Kaelum | Large rooms, base lighting |
How many spotlights do you need for a 20, 30 or 40 m² room?
There is no fixed number: divide the room's lighting need by the flux of one spotlight, then spread the points evenly. A 30 m² living room needs more points than a 20 m² room, and more powerful spotlights reduce the number of points to install.
How many LED spotlights for a 30 m² living room?
Start from the flux shown on each spotlight's product page and the room's need. Several points of moderate power, such as 12 W, are better than a single very powerful point: the light falls more evenly and shadow areas disappear. Find suitable models in lighting a living room.
Same logic for 20 m² and 40 m²
The method does not change, only the number of points varies. Over 20 m², a few well-placed spotlights are enough; over 40 m², multiply the lines while keeping the same spacing. Black adjustable spotlights let you catch up a dark area without adding a point.
How to arrange spotlights on the ceiling?
First draw the room plan, then align the spotlights on lines parallel to the walls rather than in a circle around a point. Keep a regular distance between points and keep them away from the walls to avoid harsh cones and cast shadows.
One continuous line or spaced points?
Linear recessed models follow a straight line: this is the case for Cortix, Radian, Luxem, Mirva and Kaelum. Round spotlights and track tubes are spread as points, to be spaced regularly. For recessed shapes, see recessed living room spotlights.
Should you light the wall or the floor?
Above a worktop, an adjustable spotlight placed slightly forward lights the useful surface without casting the shoulder's shadow. If you are after a graphic line on the ceiling, modern styles align slim tubes that follow the furniture.
| Type of mounting | Available shapes | Measured dimensions | Rooms | Models in the selection |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Track-mounted, adjustable or fixed | Tube, round, oval | Ø 5.2 cm, length 19.3 cm | Living room, kitchen | Nubra, Lurenzo, Ovelio, Brielle |
| Linear recessed | Line, tube | Width 2.2 cm, length 22 to 60.4 cm | Living room, kitchen | Radian, Cortix, Luxem, Mirva |
| Recessed in a track | Round, honeycomb lens | 2.1 cm by 3.6 cm | Living room, kitchen | Cuspis |
| Round recessed | Round | Ø 8.5 cm | Living room, hallway | Sylvara (IP65) |
| Ceiling-mounted | Square format | 30.2 cm by 30.2 cm | Living room, kitchen | Noctal |
Which 4000K spotlight for a living room, kitchen or hallway?
In the living room as in the kitchen, the selection is built mainly around track spotlights and linear recessed models, including adjustable tubes to aim at a worktop or a bookshelf. In the hallway, round recessed formats complete the range, including one IP65 model.
In the living room, a black tube on a track draws a fine line and keeps the ceiling clear. Above a worktop, an adjustable model aimed at the surface stops you working in your own shadow. In a hallway, the light point is there to walk by without glare: lighting a hallway needs less power than a living space. For a rest room, a rest room makes do with two or three discreet points. The Nubra spotlight combines a black tube with dimming, and the Kaelan spotlight adds bronze reflectors to an elongated profile. The choice is then made on the collection grid, where each model shows its price of the day.
4000K IP65 spotlight: how to choose the protection rating?
The IP rating indicates resistance to dust and water. The selection is mostly IP20, suited to dry rooms such as the living room and kitchen, and also includes IP65 models protected against water jets, to be chosen near a water point.
4000K bathroom spotlight: IP20 or IP65?
In this selection, only IP65 provides reinforced protection against water. The Sylvara spotlight is the IP65 model of the collection, in white, for recessed mounting. No product feature here documents installation in a bathtub zone: follow the instructions on the product page.
IP20: where can it be installed without constraints?
IP20 covers dry rooms: living room, kitchen, hallway, bedroom. The vast majority of models in this collection fall into this category, including linear recessed models and track spotlights. See the white recessed range and a metal body, aluminium being the material common to all.
4000K dimmable spotlight: how to adjust the intensity?
Dimmer compatibility is not universal: it is stated model by model in the specifications. In this selection, only a small share of the spotlights is concerned, such as Nubra. With a dimmer, you keep the neutral white 4000K light and adjust only the intensity level.
What to check before buying
Look for the dimmer mention on the product page, never rely on a guess. If it is absent, the spotlight will stay at fixed intensity. The models concerned can be found in the dimmable selection and dimmable LED spotlights.
Varying intensity without changing the shade
The colour temperature stays the same when the level goes down: the light stays neutral white, simply softer. That is what matters in the evening in the living room, when you do not want to light as in broad daylight. For recessed models, see dimmable models.
Black or white, tube or round: which finish to choose?
Black marks a graphic line that reads on a light ceiling, white blends into the ceiling. As for shape, the elongated tube suits rectangular rooms and long lines, while the round concentrates light on one point.
4000K black or white spotlight: what effect on the ceiling?
Black stands out (Nubra, Kaelan, Mirva, Cortix, Cuspis, Celion), white fades away (Lirien, Mirael, Ovelio, Lurenzo, Radian, Luxem, Sylvara, Kaelum). Compare black finishes and a white finish according to your ceiling colour.
Tube, round or oval shapes
The tube lengthens the line, the round punctuates, the oval softens. Short lines pair well with a 22 cm linear recessed model such as the Radian spotlight, a large room with the Luxem spotlight and its 60.4 cm. To go further, see more design-led pieces and the full range of Designix lighting.

Frequently asked questions about 4000K spotlights
What is 4000K?
4000K is a colour temperature: it describes the shade of the light, not its power. At 4000K, the light is called neutral white. All the spotlights in this selection fall within this neutral white range, between 3500 and 4500 K.
What is the difference between 3000K and 4000K?
A 3000K gives a warmer white, slightly yellow, that recalls a halogen lamp. A 4000K is more neutral: whites stay white and colours read without a yellow cast. On a worktop or a desk, 4000K is often preferred.
Is 4000K white or yellow?
4000K is white, not yellow. It is a neutral white, cooler than a warm 2700K but without the blue of a 6000K. In the Designix selection, all spotlights are listed as neutral white, between 3500 and 4500 K.
How many LED spotlights are needed for a 30 m2 living room?
There is no universal number: divide the living room's lighting need by the flux of one spotlight, then spread the points evenly. For 30 m², several spotlights of moderate power are better than a single very powerful one: the light is more even.
4000K dimmable spotlight: how to check compatibility?
Dimmer compatibility is not automatic: it is stated in each product's specifications. In this selection, the dimmer mention appears on only some models, such as Nubra. Check this point before buying, a non-compatible spotlight will stay at fixed intensity.
