First check the base marked on the socket (G4, G9, E27 or E14), then choose the light temperature: warm white from 2700 to 3500K for the living room and bedroom, cool white from 4500 to 6500K for the kitchen and bathroom. The entire selection is LED, IP20, with a two-year warranty.
Warm white bulb or cool white bulb: which light should you choose?
The selection offers only two white families: warm white, from 2700 to 3500K, and cool white, from 4500 to 6500K. Neutral white, around 4000K, is not included. The white finish describes the colour of the bulb itself, not the colour of the light: a white light bulb therefore shines warm or cool depending on the reference chosen. The useful marker remains the use of the room, not the shape of the glass.
Warm white bulb: what mood in the living room and bedroom?
Warm white gives an enveloping light, close to evening lighting, which softens pale walls and wooden furniture. It is the temperature that suits rooms where you settle in: bedroom, living room, dining room, toilet. Within the range, 2700K bulbs occupy the lowest shade and 3000K bulbs a slightly brighter warm white, handy if the room lacks natural light.
Cool white bulb: where to use it in the kitchen and bathroom?
Cool white makes contrasts sharper: worktops, mirrors, tiles and small print gain in legibility. It is reserved for work rooms and passageways, kitchen and bathroom first. For the other volumes of the house, compare with the full range of Designix light fixtures already in place, so as not to mix two temperatures in the same field of view.
Which base to choose: G4, G9, E27 or E14?
The base is read on the old bulb or on the socket of the light fixture, never on the box of the light fixture alone. The selection covers four families: two pin sockets, G4 and G9, and two screw sockets, E27 and E14. A base does not adapt to another socket, even within a few millimetres.
G4 and G9 bases: small pin sockets
G4 and G9 are found on spotlights, strip lights, wall lights and compact fixtures, where the bulb stays hidden. The pin models with G4 and G9 bases come in warm white and cool white. Check the pin spacing before ordering.
E27 and E14 bases: screw sockets
The large E27 screw thread fits pendants, chandeliers and table lamps; E27 base bulbs are the most widespread. The small screw thread is found on bedroom fixtures and wall lights: small E14 sockets require a narrower model. Other formats such as GU10 exist elsewhere in the catalogue.
| Base | Socket type | Fixtures concerned | What you find here |
|---|---|---|---|
| G4 | Small pins | Spotlights, strip lights, small fixtures | Warm white and cool white, 3W to 7W |
| G9 | Pins | Ceiling lights, wall lights, compact fixtures | Warm white and cool white |
| E27 | Large screw thread | Pendants, chandeliers, table lamps | Filament, vintage, dimmable models |
| E14 | Small screw thread | Small lamps, wall lights, bedroom | Cool white, dimmable model |
White chandelier: which bulbs for a white chandelier or a modern white chandelier?
A white chandelier stays discreet when its bulbs are in clear or white glass, with a simple shape. On a multi-arm fixture, the bulb is as visible as the fixture: a round or tubular shape works better than a very wide model. The E27 and E14 models in the selection fit the screw sockets of chandeliers.
White living room chandelier: warm white or cool white?
In a living room, warm white creates an ambient light, pleasant in the evening. Cool white lights more sharply if the chandelier is the main source. A common compromise: warm white on the lower arms and a stronger intensity in the centre. Filament bulbs give a classic look, with a filament visible through the glass.
White bedroom chandelier: what intensity for a soft light?
For a bedroom, stay with warm white and a moderate wattage, even if it means spreading several points rather than a single very strong one. E27 LED filaments fit well in a chandelier with exposed sockets. If the fixture has a dimmer, a compatible bulb lets you lower the intensity at bedtime without changing the shade of white.
Which white light bulb for each room: kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom?
The room dictates the temperature, the height of the fixture dictates the base. Kitchen and bathroom call for cool white, bedroom, living room and toilet for warm white. The entire selection is IP20: these bulbs are intended for dry indoor rooms, not for a very damp bathroom or for outdoor use.
Bulbs for kitchen and worktop
Cool white above the worktop avoids cast shadows and renders food and colours accurately. 2 powerful cool white G9 LED bulbs Luminance Cristalline are suitable for small fixed fixtures, in 3W, 5W or 7W. Under a cabinet, a G4 model fits in a reduced space.
Bulbs for bedroom and living room
Here, warm white is essential. The bulbs designed for the living room and the bedroom bulbs in the selection come in E27 and E14, with several wattages depending on the size of the room and the number of light points. Keep the same temperature on all the fixtures in the same room.
| Room | Preferred temperature | Suitable bases | Point to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen | Cool white | G4, G9, E14 | Light the worktop without cast shadows |
| Bathroom | Cool white | G4, G9 | Dry room only, the selection is IP20 |
| Bedroom | Warm white | E27, E14 | Dimmable model if the fixture has a dimmer |
| Living room | Warm white | E27, E14 | Same temperature on all light points |
| Toilet | Warm or cool | G4, G9 | Format accepted by the fixture |
How to wire 3 bulbs in parallel on a chandelier?
On a chandelier with three sockets, the bulbs are mounted in parallel: each socket receives the same supply wires and works independently. If one bulb goes out, the other two stay on. This is the standard wiring for multi-point fixtures, and it is never done live. Cut the power at the consumer unit before any work.
Wiring 3 bulbs in parallel: the principle
The three sockets share the same live feed and the same neutral feed, looped from socket to socket. The wire cross-section and the connection to the mains are part of the fixture installation: refer to its instructions and to our lighting range for the models concerned. If in doubt about identifying the wires, do not guess.
Checking the fixture before installation
Check the tightness of the sockets, the condition of the wires and the absence of any sign of overheating before reassembling. Then test with a single bulb, then add the others. Uncertain wiring, a smell or flickering require stopping and calling an electrician, not another attempt.
Dimmable LED bulbs: how to adjust the intensity?
A dimmable bulb is adjusted from the dimmer already installed on the fixture or on the switch: the intensity drops without the colour of the white changing. Not all dimmers accept LEDs, and a non-compatible model flickers or buzzes. Check compatibility before ordering, then adjust gradually to find the low level without flickering.
E27 dimmable bulbs
The large screw thread accounts for most of the adjustable models in the selection, in the dimmable LED bulbs. The 15 dimmable E27 filament warm white bulbs combine glass, brass and iron in 3W. The 15 large dimmable warm white LED filament bulbs target fixtures where the bulb remains visible.
Small E14 sockets and dimmer
In small bases, adjustable solutions are rarer: look at E14 dimmable bulbs. The 2 powerful cool white E14 LED bulbs Lueur Polaire are dimmable and come in 3W, 5W or 7W, useful on a wall light or a small bedside lamp.
Coloured bulbs or white finish: how to keep an even light?
A white finish means the bulb stays white, in clear or opal glass, and shines in warm white or cool white. A coloured bulb, on the other hand, diffuses a colour into the room. Keeping a single white temperature on the light points of the same volume avoids shade differences visible on walls and pale furniture.
Wood and white sideboard: what lighting?
On a wood and white sideboard, warm white brings out the grain of the wood without yellowing the white, provided you stay at a moderate intensity. A single bulb placed above the piece is enough as accent lighting. Glass bulbs let the light through without tinting it.
Glass bulbs and golden reflections: what it changes
Clear glass shows the filament or the source, opal glass diffuses more gently. The golden reflections of brass slightly warm the perceived light, which goes well with a warm interior. For a more neutral look, retro bulbs come in clear glass and a sober finish.
How to install and maintain a warm white or cool white bulb?
Allow a few minutes per bulb: cut the power, let the old one cool, then screw or clip in the new one without forcing the base. A dry cloth is enough for maintenance, with no product on the glass. The selection comes with a two-year warranty, with secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service.
Fitting an LED bulb: the right moves
Hold the bulb by the base or by the glass with a clean cloth, align the pins straight on a G4 or G9 base, screw by hand on an E27 or E14 until contact without tightening further. Then check that the light is even on all points. To change format or temperature, the LED bulb catalogue and the low-consumption LED bulbs gather the models of the house.
Designix warranty, delivery and returns
Every bulb in the selection is covered for two years. The order is paid by secure payment, shipping is tracked and returns are handled by customer service. A model 2 powerful warm white G4 LED bulbs Chaleur Lumineuse remains available in several wattages if you are unsure about the format.
Frequently asked questions about white light bulbs
White chandelier: which bulbs to choose?
A white chandelier stays discreet with bulbs in clear or white glass, with a simple shape. The selection offers E27 and E14 models suited to the screw sockets of chandeliers, in warm white for ambient light or cool white for brighter lighting.
White bedroom chandelier: which bulb for a soft light?
In a bedroom, stay with warm white and a moderate wattage, with a dimmable model if the chandelier has one. The light is softer when waking and going to bed, and the white of the bulb stays discreet in the fixture.
Modern white chandelier: which base and bulb shape?
A modern chandelier most often uses E27 sockets, more rarely E14: check the socket before ordering. As for shape, round or tubular bulbs slip easily into a multi-arm fixture, and clear glass lets the light through.
How to wire 3 bulbs in parallel?
On a chandelier with three sockets, the bulbs are wired in parallel: each socket receives the same wires and works on its own. When one bulb goes out, the others stay on. Cut the power before any work and call an electrician if the wiring seems uncertain.
Wood and white sideboard: which bulb to light it?
On a wood and white sideboard, warm white brings out the grain of the wood without yellowing the white. A single white temperature in the room avoids shade differences, and a low-wattage bulb is enough for accent lighting above the piece.
Neutral white bulb colour: where to find it?
Neutral white sits around 4000K, between warm white and cool white. This selection contains only these two families; for a look close to neutral, a warm white at the top of the range remains the closest temperature available.
