First check the socket of your light fixture: the six products in this selection have a G9 base and connect directly to the mains, with no transformer. Then choose the temperature, warm white for the living room and bedroom, cool white for the kitchen, then the wattage according to the number of light points to equip. The G9 format is also sold under the name G9 capsule: both terms refer to the same pin socket.
Which white G9 LED bulb for which room?
In the kitchen, aim for a cool white around 4500 to 6500 K, which makes the worktop look sharper; in the living room, bedroom and dining room, a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K relaxes the room in the evening. All these bulbs are rated IP20: dry rooms only.
Warm white G9 LED bulbs: for which rooms?
Warm white is the dominant colour in the selection, and it is the most forgiving: on a face, on a book, on a plate, it whites nothing out. It finds its place in the bedroom, living room, dining room and dining nook, where the light stays on in the evening. For a living room with several light sources, compare the 2700 K bulbs and keep the same shade across the whole fixture.
Cool white G9 LED bulbs: kitchen and worktops?
In the kitchen, the light must show colours accurately and pick out relief: a cool white makes the edges of the worktop easier to read and makes knife work easier. Reserve it for work areas, not for a room where you dine. The pack of cool white Luminance Cristalline bulbs is stated at 4500 to 6500 K, so within this family.
Warm white, neutral white or cool white: how to choose your light temperature?
Warm white, 2700 to 3500 K, gives a golden light; neutral white, around 4000 K, an intermediate rendering; cool white, 4500 to 6500 K, a very white light. This selection offers warm white and cool white; no product is stated between 3500 K and 4500 K.
| Temperature | Perceived rendering | Rooms and uses | Presence in the selection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warm white 2700 to 3500 K | Golden light, cosy atmosphere | Bedroom, living room, dining room, dining nook | Most of the products |
| Neutral white around 4000 K | Intermediate rendering, neither golden nor bluish | Office, kitchen, bathroom | No product stated between 3500 K and 4500 K |
| Cool white 4500 to 6500 K | Very white light, sharp contrasts | Kitchen, worktop, work areas | Models stated as cool white |
Neutral white G9 LED bulbs: what alternative is there in the selection?
Neutral white is not offered here: if you are looking for this intermediate rendering, a warm white stated around 3000 to 3500 K comes close for a work use. Compare the 3000 K bulbs before deciding, and bear in mind that a warm white slightly high in kelvins is still softer than a cool white.
Can you mix warm white and cool white in the same room?
It is better to avoid it in the same visible area. Two temperatures side by side are immediately noticeable: one side looks yellow, the other bluish, and the eye looks for the source that is out of place. Reserve the contrast for separate uses, a kitchen separated from the living room for example, and a single white family per fixture.
Which bulb is compatible with a G9 socket?
A G9 bulb fits a two-pin socket, the spacing that gives the base its name. It connects directly to the mains, with no transformer, and is changed by pulling straight on the pins. Check the fixture socket and the available clearance before ordering.
G9 or G4: how to recognise your socket?
The two look alike, with two thin pins, but the spacing differs: a G4 bulb does not clip into a G9 socket. The safest way is to read the reference marked on the socket or on the packaging of the original bulb, then compare it with the product sheet. If in doubt, measure the space between the two holes.
Do you need a transformer for a G9 LED bulb?
No: a G9 runs on 220 V and connects directly. No separate driver to house in the fixture. The house's 220V LED bulbs follow this principle, which makes replacing a halogen with an LED easier without touching the installation.
Which wattage to choose between 2, 3, 5 and 7 W?
It all depends on the number of light points. In a chandelier or a multi-arm ceiling light, 2 to 3.5 W bulbs are enough and avoid glare. For a single point, a wall light or a powerful ceiling light, aim for 5 to 7 W. Colour temperature also changes the feel.
| Fixture | Light points | Wattage to aim for | Recommended temperature | Room |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-arm chandelier | Several | 2 to 3.5 W per point | Warm white | Living room, dining room |
| Decorative white chandelier | Several | 2 to 3 W per point | Warm white | Living room |
| Compact ceiling light | One to several | 3 to 5 W per point | Warm white or cool white | Living room, kitchen |
| Wall light | One only | 5 to 7 W | Warm white | Living room, bedroom |
| Kitchen ceiling light | One to several | 5 to 7 W | Cool white | Kitchen |
2 W and 3 W G9 LED bulbs: for a multi-arm fixture
When six or eight sockets light the same table, the individual wattage matters less than the total. 2 or 3 W bulbs avoid the blinding spot above the sideboard. The 2 W G9 bulb for multi-arm chandeliers is stated as warm white and plastic; for dimmer control, go instead for the 3 W Trio or the 3 W and 3.5 W Lucide.
5 W and 7 W G9 LED bulbs: for a single light point
A single wall light on a wall, a hallway ceiling light, a bedside lamp: there, the bulb carries the whole room. Aim for 5 to 7 W, in warm white if you read there in the evening. The pack of warm white G9 bulbs comes in 3, 5 and 7 W depending on the socket to equip.
Compare the product sheets wattage by wattage before confirming: it is the only criterion that really changes comfort from one room to another.
LED chandelier, LED ceiling light or wall light: which fixture for a G9 bulb?
A G9 bulb mainly equips fixtures with thin sockets: multi-arm chandeliers, compact ceiling lights, wall lights and some pendants. The base is small, which allows several light points to be housed in the same fixture. Always check the socket indicated on the fixture's product sheet.
Living room LED chandelier or white chandelier: which G9 bulb to choose?
On a multi-arm chandelier, consistency comes first: same wattage and same temperature everywhere, otherwise one arm stands out. A fixture fitted with a G9 socket leaves you free on colour, provided you stay within a single white family. Browse the bulbs designed for the living room to match the whole set.
Powerful LED wall light: which wattage for a wall?
A wall light throws light close to the wall: 5 W is often enough, and above 7 W the halo becomes harsh. Place it out of the line of sight, at shoulder height or higher, and prefer a warm white for a hallway or a bedroom. Find the available shapes in the G9 bulb range.
How to install and change a G9 LED bulb without damaging it?
Switch off the power, let the fixture cool, then remove the bulb by pulling straight on its two pins, without twisting it. When fitting, align the pins with the holes in the socket and push in fully. A soft, dry cloth is enough for maintenance.
G9 bulb on a dimmer: how to check compatibility?
Only some models are stated as dimmer compatible. Use a dimmer designed for LEDs, then test the low range as soon as you install it: that is where incompatibilities show, through flickering or a sudden switch-off. The 3 W Lucide white G9 bulb is one of the dimmable products, in ceramic, stated at 5.2 cm in height.
Why does a G9 LED bulb flicker?
Three causes come up repeatedly: a dimmer not designed for LEDs, a socket not pushed in properly, or a fixture that is too old whose circuit cannot handle the low load of an LED. Start by screwing the bulb in fully, then test it in another socket. If the flickering persists on a dimmer, compare with the models dimmable with a dimmer.
White, amber or coloured G9 bulb: which rendering to choose?
White suits living rooms where you want to see accurately: kitchen, living room, bedroom. Amber warms the light and highlights a visible filament. Red, green or black colours mainly serve a one-off decorative effect. A white bulb remains the default choice for a main fixture.
White or amber G9 bulb: which rendering on a chandelier?
On a chandelier with clear glass, an amber bulb tints the light even when switched off and warms the whole piece. A white one stays neutral at rest and lets the fixture show as it is. For a warm rendering without turning yellow, look at the amber bulbs and keep the same shade on all the arms.
Red or green coloured bulbs: for which uses?
These colours are for decoration and signage, not for main lighting: a shop window, an ambience corner, a temporary effect. Some of the house's products exist in orange or red, visible in the red coloured bulbs. Avoid them in a room where you work or read.
What budget should you plan for a white G9 LED bulb?
The price depends on the wattage, the body material and dimmer compatibility. The 2 to 3.5 W products in plastic or ceramic are the most affordable. All the bulbs in the selection are guaranteed for two years and the current price is shown on each product sheet.
Payment, delivery and returns: what Designix offers
The six products in this selection are IP20, and three of them accept a dimmer. Designix customer service answers compatibility questions before ordering. To compare materials, see the glass bulbs and the Designix bulb department.
Ordering a replacement G9 bulb: the right reflexes
Note four pieces of information before ordering: the base, the wattage, the colour temperature and the height of the original bulb. A product 5.3 cm high does not fit everywhere where another 1.2 cm one fits without trouble. The same colour exists in a large base with the same colour in an E27 base, not to be confused.

Frequently asked questions
Can a G9 LED bulb work with a dimmer?
Not all of them. Some of the models in the selection are stated as dimmer compatible, the others are not. Use a dimmer designed for LEDs and test the low range as soon as you install it, that is where incompatibilities show. The product sheet of each product specifies this point before purchase.
Can a G9 bulb be installed in a bathroom?
These bulbs are rated IP20: they are protected against solid bodies but not against water. In a bathroom, place them out of reach of splashes, in a dry area, or choose a fixture whose protection rating suits the location. IP20 does not mean waterproof.
What are the colours of LED bulbs?
In LED, white dominates: warm white around 2700 to 3500 K, neutral white towards 4000 K, cool white from 4500 to 6500 K. Decorative colours such as amber, red, green or black are added to these. This selection is white, even though some of the house's products exist in orange or red.
How do you know if your fixture is G9 or G4?
The G9 and the G4 look alike, but the pin spacing is not the same: a G4 bulb does not clip into a G9 socket. The safest way is to read the reference marked on the socket or on the packaging of the original bulb, then compare it with the product sheet.
How does a cuttable LED strip work?
A cuttable LED strip has regular cutting marks: cut only at these marks, never between them, otherwise a section stops working. You then need to join the right wires and power each section with a driver suited to its length. Check the mark before cutting.
