Start with the light temperature: warm white 2700-3500K for the living room, bedroom and dining room, cool white 4500-6500K for the kitchen. Then check the base, here G9 with pins, then the wattage, from 2 W to 7 W, and the dimmable mention if your fixture already has a dimmer.

Warm white or cool white: which white LED light bulb should you choose?

Warm white (2700-3500K) leans yellow and suits the living room, bedroom and dining room; cool white (4500-6500K) stays more neutral and suits the kitchen. Most bulbs in the collection are warm white, and only a minority are cool white.

Warm white LED bulb: for which rooms?

A warm white makes faces and materials look softer: it is the tone of 2700K bulbs and 3000K bulbs, to be fitted in a bedroom or living room fixture. In the evening, it tires the eye less than a very white light.

Cool white LED bulb: kitchen and worktops

Above a worktop, a sink or a chopping board, a cool white brings out the true colours of food and textiles. It is the only use where it wins out in this selection.

Which is brighter, cool white or warm white?

At equal wattage, both light the same: only the tone changes. Cool white looks brighter because it contrasts more with shadows, but a 2700K bulb of the same wattage lights the same surface. So do not count on colour temperature to gain brightness.

LED ceiling light, LED chandelier or LED wall light: which fixture takes a white G9 bulb?

A G9 LED bulb fits most ceiling lights, chandeliers and wall lights designed for this pin base. Warm white lights a living room or bedroom, cool white a worktop. Rated IP20, these bulbs stay in dry interiors.

Modern LED ceiling light and living room LED ceiling light

A living room ceiling light often takes several bulbs: two or three light points spread the light better than a single powerful source. The warm white G9 duo covers this need on two-socket models. To browse shapes and finishes, see all Designix light fixtures.

Living room LED chandelier and white chandelier

On a chandelier with several arms, each bulb works at low wattage: a 3 W is enough per point. A white chandelier with G9 sockets stays consistent with white bulbs, whose glass does not colour the light.

LED wall light and living room LED wall light

A wall light illuminates a wall or a hallway, not a whole room: aim for a short bulb if the diffuser is flat. The tube shape of some models can be a problem in a small housing, check the depth before ordering. Find all compatible references in G9 LED bulbs and, to place the rest of the catalogue, the lighting catalogue.

How many watts for a powerful LED ceiling light or a powerful LED wall light?

In this collection, the wattages recorded range from 2 W to 7 W. The 2 W, 3 W and 3.5 W models serve as accent lighting in a wall light or a small room; the 5 W and 7 W light a ceiling light or a living room chandelier more widely.

2 W, 3 W and 3.5 W: accent lighting

These wattages suit a hallway wall light, an accent lamp or a chandelier with many light points. The 3.5 W white G9 bulb in warm white belongs to this family, and it is dimmable. See also the bulb section for other bases.

5 W and 7 W: lighting more widely

For a living room, a 5 W or 7 W model per socket is often enough, especially if the ceiling light has two or three. The number of light points matters as much as the wattage of each: two 5 W bulbs spread the light better than a single 7 W on the ceiling.

How to choose your white LED light bulb by room?

These bulbs are used mostly in kitchens, then bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and bathrooms. For a kitchen, a neutral or cool white renders colours accurately; for a bedroom or living room, a warm white creates a softer light. Rated IP20, they stay in dry interiors.

Light temperatures in the collection
Temperature Perceived rendering Suitable rooms Share of models
Warm white 2700-3500K Soft yellow light Bedroom, living room, dining room, bathroom The majority
Cool white 4500-6500K Neutral to cool light Kitchen, worktop A minority

White LED light bulb for the kitchen and dining room

In the kitchen, favour cool white above the worktop. Above the table, warm white stays more pleasant for a meal: these are two zones to treat separately if the room is open plan. The catalogue all white finish bulbs groups both tones.

White LED light bulb for the bedroom, living room and bathroom

In these rooms, a warm white 2700-3500K stays the most comfortable. In a bathroom, these bulbs go on a fixture fitted outside the splash zone, as the IP20 rating does not protect against water. If your fixture has a small screw base, look instead at the white finish E27 version, which does not use the same holder.

A dimmable white LED light bulb: how do you check compatibility?

Only some of the models in the collection are dimmable: the information appears on each product page. If your fixture already has a dimmer, choose the G9 bulb listed as such; otherwise, a non-dimmable bulb lights normally.

Recognising a dimmable white LED light bulb

The product page mentions dimming when it exists. All the dimmable LED bulbs in the collection are also warm white, which limits the choice if you are looking for cool white. The screw versions are listed in dimmable E27 LED bulbs and dimmable E14 LED bulbs.

When to keep a dimmer in the living room or bedroom

A dimmer is used to lower the intensity in the evening, not to change the tone: the bulb stays warm white from start to finish. If you never use the dimmer, a standard bulb does the same job for a new fixture.

What are the drawbacks of LED bulbs?

All these bulbs are IP20: they are fitted indoors, sheltered from water splashes. Cool white is less warm than warm white, and the G9 pin format does not replace a screw base. Also check the G4 base on some fixtures.

Bases, wattages and dimming
Base Wattages recorded Dimmer Fixtures concerned
G9 2 W, 3 W, 3.5 W, 5 W, 7 W On some models Ceiling lights, chandeliers, wall lights
G4 (on some models) Depending on the model Depending on the model Small fixtures with G4 base

IP20: white LED light bulbs for indoor use

The IP20 rating means no protection is provided against water. For a terrace or garden, you need another product: see outdoor lighting. None of these bulbs should be fitted outdoors in exposed conditions, even under a canopy.

G9 and G4 bases: check the shape before ordering

The G9 is a small two-pin base, the G4 an even more compact one. A G9 bulb does not screw into an E14 or E27 socket: if your fixture is a screw type, look at small E14 bases or other G4 and G9 bases. Check the socket before any purchase.

Coloured LED bulbs, white or amber finish: how not to get it wrong?

A white finish does not colour the light: it describes the appearance of the bulb, which lights in warm white or cool white. Orange, red, amber or black renderings are other finishes, to choose when you want a visible tone rather than neutral lighting.

White finish: a neutral light, not a colour

In this selection, the glass or diffuser is white, and the light rendered stays white. This is the case for models in glass, plastic, ceramic or crystal: the material affects diffusion, not the tone.

When to prefer a coloured or amber bulb

An amber finish gives a more golden light, often chosen for a visible fixture. A black finish mainly makes the bulb discreet in a fixture with clear glass, not to light differently.

How do you change and maintain a white G9 LED bulb?

Switch off the power, let the old bulb cool, then pull it straight by the body without twisting the pins. When refitting, push the new G9 bulb in until it makes contact. If nothing lights, check its position in the socket and the condition of the fixture.

Changing a G9 bulb without forcing the pins

The G9 base holds by friction: no need to screw or twist. Hold the bulb by the body, not by the glass if your fingers are greasy, and check that both pins are properly aligned with the holes. To replace a tired model, G9 LED bulbs groups the available options.

What to do if the white LED light bulb does not light

First test the bulb in another socket of the same fixture: if it lights, the socket in question is at fault. If several new bulbs stay off, the problem comes from the fixture or the switch, not the lamp. the bulb section and bedroom lighting let you compare the remaining models.

Choosing the warm white G9 duo for a living room or bedroom

Frequently asked questions

Which is brighter, cool white or warm white?

At equal wattage, both light the same, only the tone changes. Cool white (4500-6500K) looks more neutral and whiter, warm white (2700-3500K) leans yellow and looks softer. The choice depends on the room: cool white for a kitchen, warm white for the living room, bedroom or dining room.

Cuttable LED strip, how does it work?

A cuttable LED strip is cut only at the marks printed on the strip: anywhere else, the circuit does not reconnect and the section becomes unusable. This collection does not cover strips, but base bulbs, to choose according to the room, the base and the desired tone.

How do you recognise a cool white LED bulb on a product page?

The page states the colour temperature: cool white corresponds to 4500-6500K, warm white to 2700-3500K. Also check the base, G9 on these models, the wattage, from 2 W to 7 W, and the dimmable mention if your fixture has one. These three pieces of information are enough to validate a purchase.

How many watts should you choose for a powerful LED ceiling light?

In this collection, the wattages recorded range from 2 W to 7 W: the 5 W and 7 W models light most widely, the 2 W, 3 W and 3.5 W serve as accents. The number of bulbs the fixture takes matters as much as the wattage of each: two 5 W points are better than a single 7 W.

Can these bulbs be fitted in a living room LED wall light?

Yes, if the wall light takes a G9 or G4 base and this bulb format. A living room wall light often makes do with a 3 W or 3.5 W model, while a wider wall light can take a 5 W or 7 W in warm white. Check the depth of the diffuser before ordering.
