Expect 3 W for most uses, 2 W for a hallway or a nightlight, and up to 7 W for a living room: that is the real spread of wattages in this selection. All references are G9 LED bulbs with an IP20 rating, for indoor spotlights, pendants and ceiling lights.

What is the wattage of a G9 LED bulb?
In this collection, G9 LED bulbs range from 2 to 7 W, and 3 W is the most common value. The wattage to remember depends on the use: a low value is enough for a hallway or a nightlight, a higher value for lighting a living room.
G9 40W and 25W bulbs: what these figures mean
These two values come from halogen capsules, which draw more watts for the same light. Looking for them in an LED catalogue makes no sense: it is better to think in terms of use. A G9 LED bulb needs fewer watts and heats up less than an equivalent halogen one. That is the first criterion to check in the LED bulb range.
2 W, 3 W or 7 W: how to choose?
2 W for a nightlight or a hallway, 3 W for a bedroom or a small living room, 4.5 W for a living room, 5 and 7 W for large rooms. Multiply by the number of sockets: a three-point light fitting lights more than a single point, even with modest capsules. These figures have nothing to do with other bulb searches: a powerful H7 bulb fits a car headlight and will not fit a G9 socket. Whether you start from IKEA bulbs, supermarket ones or a specialist brand, it is the cap and the colour temperature that decide.
Which G9 LED bulb should you choose for each room?
The living room, bedroom and kitchen account for most uses, with the dining room and hallway following. For a living room, a warm white G9 is preferred; for a kitchen or a worktop, neutral or cool white gives a crisper light.
Bulbs for the living room and dining room
Above a table, the light stays warm and falls on the surface without dazzling. The 4.5 W G9 LED bulb fills this role: G9 cap, warm or neutral white as you prefer, IP20, 1.8 cm wide by 5.8 cm high. For a fitting with several sockets, the pack of 2 warm white G9 bulbs completes a pendant. See also lighting a living room well.
Bulbs for the bedroom, hallway and kitchen
In a bedroom, you want low intensity and a restful tone: the 3 W white G9 bulb or the 2 W white G9 bulb are enough. In a hallway, brief switching calls for the same wattage. On a worktop, the 4000 K G9 bulb gives a crisper light. More ideas in bulbs for the bedroom.
Warm white, neutral white or cool white: which G9 LED bulb should you choose?
Warm white (2700 to 3500 K) dominates the collection and suits rooms where you relax; neutral white (3500 to 4500 K) lights more crisply; cool white (4500 to 6500 K) is reserved for spaces where you want to see clearly, such as a worktop.
| Colour temperature | Mood created | Rooms where it works best | Share of the collection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warm white 2700 to 3500 K | Soft light, yellow tone | Bedroom, living room, hallway | 69 % |
| Neutral white 3500 to 4500 K | White, crisp light | Kitchen, dining room, worktop | 23 % |
| Cool white 4500 to 6500 K | Very white light | Kitchen, hallway, spaces where you want to see clearly | 15 % |
Cool white G9 LED bulbs: for which rooms?
Cool white accounts for 15 % of the selection. It is useful in a kitchen, a hallway or a workshop, where you need to tell colours apart and work without shadows. The pack of 2 cool white G9 bulbs targets these uses. In a bedroom, it looks harsher in the evening: a lower tone is better. See white bulbs.
Warm white 2700 to 3500 K: the G9 bulb for living rooms
69 % of the references are warm white, the largest family. This is the tone of the living room, bedroom, hallway and dining room. The 2700 K bulbs form its softest edge, and the 3000 K bulbs a slightly whiter version, still warm to the eye.
How do you replace a halogen G9 bulb with an LED bulb?
Switch off the power at the breaker, let the old capsule cool, then remove it by pulling straight down to free its two pins. The new G9 LED bulb is presented with the pins aligned with the socket holes, without forcing.
Halogen G9 bulb: check the cap and the dimmer
The cap is the same, G9 on both sides: an LED capsule replaces a halogen one without an adapter. Two points remain to check: the space available under the light fitting cover, and compatibility with a dimmer. At comparable brightness, a 220 V LED bulb uses less power and heats up less than the halogen one.
Holding a G9 capsule without forcing: the gesture to know
Hold the capsule by the edge, never on the bare glass that fingers mark. Engage the two pins straight, then push to the bottom of the socket: the capsule must be stable, with no play. All references are IP20, so reserved for indoor use, away from water splashes; a socket exposed to splashes is outside this scope.
Dimmable G9 bulbs: how do you choose a bulb for a dimmer?
Only some of the G9 bulbs in the collection are dimmer compatible. You need to match the bulb to the dimmer already installed, otherwise dimming may come with flickering or buzzing. If in doubt, choose a reference stated as dimmable.
Dimmable G9 bulbs: check compatibility with the dimmer
The word dimmable appears on some references, not all. The 3 W white G9 bulb and the 3 W clear G9 bulb are among them. The question to ask before buying: what type of dimmer is installed. Our selection of dimmer compatible LED bulbs gathers the relevant models.
Old dimmer, new LED bulb: the points to check
A dimmer designed for halogen does not always drive an LED the same way: the useful range shrinks, and the light may flicker at the low end. If doubt remains, entrust the dimmer replacement to an electrician. The Designix lighting catalogue includes pendants, spotlights and ceiling lights designed for these sockets.
Will a G9 bulb fit my light fitting? dimensions and capsule format
A G9 bulb is a compact capsule: in the collection, the sized references measure about 1.5 to 1.8 cm wide by 4.9 to 5.8 cm high. It fits the small sockets of spotlights, pendants and ceiling lights, where a screw-cap bulb will not go.
G9 LED bulb: capsule format and footprint
Height is the dimension that most often blocks: a 5.8 cm capsule will not fit under a 4 cm cover. Measure the depth between the socket and the edge of the diffuser before ordering. A narrower tube capsule helps in recessed sockets. The format and the clear glass bulbs can be seen in the product photos.
G9, G4 or E14 cap: how do you avoid mistakes?
The G9 cap is present on all references. Some also carry a second compatible cap, G4 or E14 cap bulbs: the product sheet states this. Bulb caps do not adapt to each other, and a screw bulb never fits a G9 socket. Compare the other G4 and G9 caps if you are unsure with a small bedside light.
Wiring 3 bulbs in parallel: how do you proceed?
In parallel, each socket is connected to the same supply: the live and neutral continue to the next one, so a burnt-out bulb does not switch off the others. Wiring is done with the power off, and any work on the mains should be entrusted to an electrician.
Series or parallel wiring: the difference for three sockets
In series, the sockets follow one another on a single wire: if a bulb is missing, the circuit opens and the others go out. In parallel, each socket stays independent. This is the arrangement used for a three-point light fitting, the one found in our pendants and ceiling lights.
Wiring three bulbs to the same switch
The three sockets start from the same switch: the supply reaches the first, then continues to the second and third. Switch off the breaker, check there is no voltage, tighten each connection before restoring power. The choice of cable and protection is a matter for an electrician.
Which bulbs light best without hurting your eyes?
It is not wattage alone that counts, but the colour temperature and the way the light is diffused. Warm white seems more restful in the evening, cool white more stimulating; a clear glass bulb shows the source, a white bulb diffuses it more gently.
What are the drawbacks of LED bulbs?
Three points come up: colour rendering sometimes less faithful than halogen, variable compatibility with old dimmers, and a cooler light feel at high colour temperatures. None is a deal-breaker, but they are choices. Modern bulbs in milky white most often reduce glare.
Clear or white G9 bulb: which diffusion?
A clear capsule shows the light point: in an open fitting, it casts sharp shadows and is more likely to bother. A white capsule diffuses light in all directions and suits a living room better. This criterion can be seen in the photo of the 3 W clear G9 bulb.
Unsure about the available height? Measure the depth of the socket, compare it with the dimension on the product sheet, then choose the temperature: warm white for living, neutral or cool to see clearly. All our bulbs can be browsed by cap and by tone.

Frequently asked questions about G9 LED bulbs
How do you wire 3 bulbs in parallel?
In parallel, the three sockets start from the same point: the live and neutral pass from one to the other, so a burnt-out bulb does not switch off the other two. Work with the power off and, if you are not comfortable with the electrical panel, entrust the wiring to an electrician.
What is the wattage of a G9 LED bulb?
In this collection, G9 LED bulbs range from 2 to 7 W, and 3 W is the most common value. The right wattage depends mainly on the use: a low value is enough for a hallway or a nightlight, a higher value for lighting a living room.
How do you replace a G9 bulb with an LED?
Switch off the power, let the halogen capsule cool, then remove it by pulling straight down. The LED is fitted with the pins aligned with the socket holes, without forcing: the G9 cap is identical, only the technology changes.
Which is the best option between halogen and LED G9 bulbs?
LED is now the standard solution: it uses less power at comparable brightness, heats up less and comes in warm, neutral or cool white. Halogen remains useful to keep an existing socket going, but it uses more power and heats up more.
Is it possible to replace a classic bulb with an LED bulb?
Yes, provided the cap matches. A screw E27 or bayonet bulb will not fit a G9 socket: you need a G9 capsule. In the collection, the G9 cap is present on all references, sometimes with a second compatible cap.
