Start with the mounting, then the wattage: a recessed spotlight flush with the ceiling for the worktop line, a surface-mounted spotlight for wide light, a track model to aim the beam. The whole selection is aluminium, with integrated LED, IP20, in warm white or neutral white.

Which kitchen LED spotlights should you choose?

A kitchen LED spotlight is chosen first by its mounting: recessed in the ceiling for a flush finish, surface-mounted for a wide point of light, or on a track to aim the light towards the worktop. The models shown are in aluminium, with integrated LED and IP20.

Recessed LED spotlight for kitchen: the flush ceiling finish

A recessed model shows only a disc or a linear profile: the ceiling stays smooth above the worktop, with no protrusion to clean. It requires a false ceiling or a recess, and comes in profiles with several round spots. The recessed LED spotlights for kitchen family gathers these profiles.

Bright kitchen spotlight: track, ceiling or cabinet

A bright kitchen spotlight can also be fixed on a track, where each cylinder slides and pivots towards the sink, or directly on the ceiling when the room has no technical void. The adjustable models are set once the cabinets are installed. To compare the families, browse the full range of Designix lighting.

Which wattage of kitchen LED spotlight should you choose?

In this selection, wattages range from 5 W for an accent point or a cabinet to 26 W for general lighting. The useful reference remains the distance between the spotlight and the lit surface: the higher the ceiling, the higher the wattage.

Kitchen LED lamp: read the wattage before ordering

Wattage determines the number of points: a few watts are enough as a supplement, whereas an open room with a high ceiling needs stronger points, arranged in lines. The result depends as much on the mounting height as on the wattage. The modern kitchen spotlights cover both uses.

Kitchen LED bulbs: why the LED is integrated here

No bulb to change: the socket is an LED integrated into the fitting. The light stays stable over time and the spotlight keeps a thin profile, which matters for a recess or a track. The recessed kitchen spotlights all play this card of a discreet profile.

Wattage and light temperature of kitchen spotlights
Wattage Temperature Mounting Models
5 W Warm white Track, adjustable Nubio
7 W Warm white Cylindrical track Limea, Orveo
12 W Warm white Recessed or track Ravo, Rallis, Kalinda
18 W Warm or neutral white Recessed, track Rivane, Rumio, Cortix, Vialo
20 and 24 W Warm or neutral white Track, surface-mounted Talvi, Sylvane, Noctal, Virel
26 W Neutral white Ribbed track Tubéo

Warm white or neutral white: which light for a kitchen?

Warm white (2700 to 3500 K) gives a light close to the classic bulb, comfortable over an island or a table. Neutral white (3500 to 4500 K) gives a whiter light, which highlights worktops and open rooms. Both shades are available in this selection.

Warm white 2700 - 3500 K: island, table, evening light

Around 3000 K, the light leans towards amber: food looks natural and the room stays soft when the kitchen becomes a dining room. This is the dominant shade in the selection, available on recessed versions as well as surface-mounted spots, and it extends well towards the neighbouring living room.

Neutral white 3500 - 4500 K: worktops and open rooms

Whiter, crisper on a quartz or stainless steel worktop, neutral white keeps a consistent colour in a room open to the living area. It is mainly used on powerful models, such as the Cortix recessed profile or the Tubéo ribbed track. The white spots for a light ceiling follow this shade in large kitchens.

Where should you install a kitchen LED spotlight?

On the ceiling, spots provide general lighting and are placed in lines parallel to the worktop. Under wall cabinets and above the island, a lower point removes the shadow cast by the body. Adjustable models are aimed at the area to be lit.

Kitchen cabinet LED spotlight: under the wall units

Under a wall unit, a compact spotlight lights the chopping area and the hob without glare: formats from Ø 3.5 cm to Ø 5.3 cm fit without getting in the way, and the beam is adjusted towards the front. The Nubio adjustable spotlight is one of them, at 5 W. Many choose it in black finish, more discreet under a dark cabinet.

Kitchen LED lighting above the worktop

Above the worktop, the light must come from the front to avoid the body's shadow on the board. A continuous line or a row of round spots set back from the wall works better than a single point in the centre of the room. The Ravo linear recessed spotlight, at 12 W, is designed for this type of line.

Kitchen ceiling spots: lines parallel to the worktop

On the ceiling, the practice is to use lines parallel to the worktop, evenly spaced, rather than an isolated point. In an open kitchen, these lines extend towards the living room without changing finish: the recessed living room spots come from the same family.

Recessed, surface-mounted or track spotlight: which mounting should you choose?

A recessed model disappears into the ceiling and requires a false ceiling or a recess. A surface-mounted spotlight is installed directly and covers a wider area. A track spotlight can be moved and aimed after installation. The dimensions recorded range from Ø 3.5 cm to a 30.2 cm by 30.2 cm format.

Recessed kitchen spotlight: dimensions and ceiling recess

A recessed profile is identified by its length: 22 cm for a short kitchen, 32.7 cm for a longer line, against 30.2 cm by 30.2 cm for a square recessed black and white module. In all cases, plan the recess before ordering. The adjustable recessed spots add beam adjustment.

Track spotlight: move the light after installation

On a track, each cylinder stays mobile: it slides towards the sink, then is aimed at the worktop depending on the installed cabinet. This is the most flexible mounting for renovation, when you do not want to touch the ceiling. These models also come in black finishes for a track that blends into the room.

Which mounting for which kitchen?
Mounting family Recorded dimensions Where to use it
Linear recessed with round spots W 2.2 cm / D 32.7 cm False ceiling, line above the worktop
Compact linear recessed W 2.3 cm / D 22 cm Short kitchen, small worktop
Surface-mounted W 30.2 cm / D 30.2 cm General lighting without cutting
Cylindrical track Ø 8.9 cm / D 13.8 cm Open kitchen, beam to direct
Tube track or opal diffuser Ø 8.5 to 12 cm Table or island close to the prep area
Compact adjustable Ø 3.5 cm to Ø 5.3 cm Supplementary row and cabinet lighting

How do you pair spots with a modern kitchen decor?

In a modern kitchen decor, spots handle the functional lighting of the worktop, while a pendant or a modern kitchen chandelier brings the decorative point above the island or the table. Keep the same family of shades and finishes from one fitting to the next.

Kitchen lighting: pendant, modern kitchen chandelier or spots

A pendant above the island is set at around 75 cm from the worktop to let the eye pass without glare. Spots, for their part, stay on the ceiling and provide the working light. To vary the styles, spots with a crafted design sit well with a sober pendant.

Large chandelier for a high ceiling: what spot complement

Under a great height, a chandelier brings the light point down without lighting the lower areas. You then complete it with adjustable spots aimed at the worktop and the cabinets, without multiplying decorative sources. See our lighting catalogue to build the same family of finishes.

LED ceiling light, wall light or spots: which fitting should you choose?

An LED ceiling light lights widely from a central point and is enough on its own; an LED spotlight is multiplied to follow the work areas. In a toilet or a small hallway, a single ceiling point is often enough, whereas a powerful LED wall light mainly serves a wall to be highlighted.

LED ceiling light: the central point when the ceiling is low

Without a technical void or the height to install a track, a ceiling light avoids any cutting. The 30.2 cm by 30.2 cm square format, at 24 W, covers a whole room, in warm white or neutral white. The Virel surface-mounted spotlight comes in a dimmer-compatible version. The same logic applies to lighting a bedroom.

Powerful LED wall light and toilet lighting: the key points

A strong wall light lights a specific wall or worktop, never the whole room: keep it for circulation areas and small spaces. For a toilet or a hallway, one ceiling point is enough, possibly completed by hallway spots placed in a line.

Dimmer, protection and warranty: what to check before installation

Some models in the selection accept a dimmer, provided the switch is compatible. All these spots are IP20: protected against solid objects, not against water, so keep them away from direct splashes above a sink or a porthole window. The manufacturer's warranty ranges from 2 to 5 years.

Dimmable LED spots: check the switch compatibility

A dimmer is only useful if the wall switch is designed to drive an LED load: an old halogen dimmer makes the spotlight flicker or go out poorly. Check this before ordering, otherwise the dimmer-compatible spots lose all their value. Recessed models are gathered in the dimmable recessed spots.

IP20 above a sink: what the protection covers

IP20 protects against contact with solid objects and everyday dust, not against splashes or concentrated steam. Above a sink or a porthole window, it is better to move the point back or change zone. Cleaning is done dry, on a cooled fitting. For damp use, look instead at the outdoor LED spots.

Frequently asked questions about kitchen LED spotlights

Which LED spotlight should you choose for kitchen lighting?

Start with the mounting: a linear recessed model for a line above the worktop, a surface-mounted spotlight for general lighting, a track spotlight to aim the beam. All are in aluminium, with integrated LED and IP20, from 5 to 26 W.

How do you light a kitchen with LED spotlights?

Combine two levels: a line of spots on the ceiling for general lighting, then lower or adjustable points above the worktop and the island. Models from 5 to 7 W serve as a supplement, 18 to 26 W cover an open room.

Can you install a kitchen cabinet LED spotlight?

Yes, with a compact model: adjustable spots from Ø 3.5 cm to Ø 5.3 cm fit under a wall cabinet and are aimed at the worktop. These models remain IP20, so keep them away from water splashes and direct steam.

Can a kitchen LED spotlight be adjustable?

Some models are adjustable, on a track or in a compact version, which allows the beam to be moved towards the worktop, the sink or a specific cabinet. Fixed models light more widely and suit the general lighting of the room.

Are kitchen LED spotlights guaranteed?

The manufacturer's warranty ranges from 2 to 5 years depending on the model, and covers 5 years on the vast majority of this selection. It covers the fitting and its integrated LED: there is no bulb to replace separately.

One last reference before ordering: measure the height between the ceiling and the worktop, note the length available for a recessed profile, and choose the shade once for the whole room. The product pages give the IP rating, wattage, light temperature and dimensions of each model.
