An IP44 bathroom spotlight lights the area above the shower, the vanity unit or the mirror without fearing water splashes, and it can be fixed to the ceiling or the wall depending on the space available. This collection brings together round or square recessed spotlights, two-tube adjustable models and surface-mounted projectors, all rated IP44, in white, black and silver finishes.

Contents

Which IP44 bathroom spotlights should you choose?

IP44 bathroom spotlights are chosen first on their mounting: recessed in the ceiling for a flush light, surface-mounted when there is no false ceiling. Then on their light source: integrated LED or GU10 socket with a replaceable bulb. Formats range from round to square, in white, black or silver, with the same IP44 rating across the whole selection.

Recessed IP44 spotlight or surface-mounted spotlight?

A recessed model sits inside a cut-out and stays flush with the surface: round versions go down to ø8.5 cm in diameter with a useful height of 7 cm, such as the white Marissa spotlight, ideal under a hollow slab. The white recessed spotlight therefore requires a drilled support and enough void behind it. A surface-mounted model, on the other hand, screws onto a solid support and suits low or tiled ceilings with no technical void, such as the double projectors measuring ø24 cm for a maximum height of 15 cm.

Integrated LED or GU10 socket: which should you choose?

An integrated LED cannot be replaced: the whole unit lasts and the silhouette stays slim, like the recessed models with a flush trim ranging from ø12 cm to ø17.5 cm. A GU10 socket takes a replaceable bulb, which leaves the choice of temperature and power open for later. The Cylia adjustable spotlight and the Sigrid spotlight run on GU10, while the adjustable reflector models follow the LED logic. IP44 bathroom spotlights: which standard applies to the shower zone?

The IP44 rating indicates protection against solid objects larger than 1 mm and against water splashes from all directions. In a bathroom, this rating determines whether a spotlight can be used near the shower, the bath or the washbasin, where splashes are frequent. Every model in this collection carries the IP44 rating.

What an IP44 spotlight really protects against

The first digit, 4, covers dust and objects larger than 1 mm. The second, 4, covers projected water: a sideways jet or a splash cannot get inside the fitting. That does not mean immersion or cleaning with a direct jet, and an IP44 spotlight only keeps its seal in good condition if it is maintained with a damp sponge. A model with no rating, however attractive, has no place in the volume close to water. The spotlights with a crafted design in this selection are all protected.

IP44 spotlight and humidity: what to check before installation

Three points matter as much as the rating: the quality of the seal around the trim, the cut-out actually available in the support, and the orientation of the spotlight. An adjustable model near the shower should stay aimed at the floor and not at the damp wall. The distance to the water point and the mounting height still need to be checked on site: the rating does not replace checking the support and the volume in which the fitting sits.

Where should you install an IP44 spotlight in the bathroom?

In a bathroom, an IP44 spotlight is mounted on the ceiling above the shower, the bath and the vanity unit, or as a wall light above the mirror. The aim is to avoid shadows on the face and reflections in the mirror: several spread-out points work better than a single source placed in the centre.

Which IP44 spotlight for each bathroom zone
Zone Recommended mounting Format found in the collection Material Colour
Shower or bath Recessed in the ceiling Round ø8.5 cm or ø12 cm Plastic and metal White, black
Mirror and vanity unit Recessed with flush trim Round ø12 cm to ø17.5 cm Aluminium and plastic White
Tiled ceiling Recessed Square 11 x 11 cm, 14.5 x 14.5 cm, 17 x 17 cm Aluminium and plastic White
Large room or high volume Recessed Round ø17.5 cm to ø22 cm Aluminium or plastic White
Hair corner, nook Adjustable surface-mounted Double tube ø24 cm, H 15 cm max Plastic and metal Black, silver
Terrace and outdoors Surface-mounted on solid support Double projector ø24 cm Metal Silver

How do you light a mirror without reflections?

Two symmetrical points in front of the glass, slightly ahead of the mounting plane, prevent shadows from the nose and chin. Recessed models with a flush trim of ø12 cm and ø17.5 cm work well: the Ivyra spotlight is mounted just above the vanity unit and the Lysa version at ø17.5 cm covers a wider basin. For brushed finishes matching the taps, take a look at the metal finishes.

IP44 spotlight on the shower ceiling or wall?

On the ceiling, the spotlight lights the silhouette from above and stays out of reach of direct splashes. On the wall, it needs to be placed high enough and aimed downwards. The adjustable double tube, ø24 cm for a maximum height of 15 cm, makes sense in a corner or a hair corner where the ceiling no longer offers any space. Elsewhere in the home, the same formats are used for hallways and passageways or staircase lighting.

Black, white or silver IP44 bathroom spotlights: which colour should you choose?

White blends into a painted ceiling and suits small, bright bathrooms; it dominates the collection. Black discreetly marks a white ceiling or dark tiling, particularly on adjustable models and projectors. Silver and brushed aluminium match taps and stainless steel profiles.

Black IP44 bathroom spotlights: which finish should you choose?

Matte or satin black works well with dark taps, anthracite tiling or a dark worktop. On a white ceiling, it draws a clean graphic point, especially on an adjustable two-tube model. It needs more regular wiping: dust and limescale marks show up more. Find these references among the black spotlights.

White or silver: which effect on the ceiling?

White disappears completely into a painted surface and visually enlarges a narrow room. Brushed silver, like the Nivéo spotlight with its gold ring, adds a visible detail that matches stainless steel and chrome. A uniformly white ceiling easily takes a light dominant tone; it is the safest choice in a small space. See also the white models for painted ceilings.

Warm white or neutral white: which light temperature for the bathroom?

Warm white (2700 to 3500 K) is relaxing and suits an evening bath; neutral white (3500 to 4500 K) renders skin tones and colours more accurately in front of the mirror. This collection offers both: warm white on adjustable models and projectors, neutral white on several round recessed models.

Warm white or neutral white: which should you choose?
Temperature Atmosphere Recommended use Models in the collection
Warm white 2700 to 3500 K Warm, restful light Evening bath, relaxed atmosphere Cylia, Orbia, Kalynda
Neutral white 3500 to 4500 K Accurate rendering of skin tones and colours Mirror, make-up, shaving Astriva, Protexa

Which light above the mirror for applying make-up?

Neutral white is the most accurate for reading a foundation or lipstick colour. The Astriva recessed spotlight at ø15.5 cm and the Protexa at ø17.5 cm are listed as neutral white and are installed above the vanity unit. For other rooms, the white LED spotlights follow the same temperature logic.

Can you mix warm white and neutral white in a bathroom?

It is better to avoid mixing them on the same surface: the difference is immediately visible on the ceiling. If the room combines relaxation and a grooming corner, keep neutral white for the vanity unit and warm white for the bath area. The temperature is set by the model, it is not adjustable on the fitting itself. The Kalynda spotlight stays warm white.

How do you install and maintain an IP44 spotlight?

An IP44 spotlight is fixed to the ceiling or the wall depending on its cut-out: recessed models require a hollow support or a false ceiling, while surface-mounted models are fitted directly onto a solid support. Cleaning is done with a damp sponge, without abrasive products. Dimming is only possible on models stated as dimmable.

Do you need a dimmer for a bathroom spotlight?

A dimmer helps lower the light for a late bath without lighting the whole room. Only a small number of references are compatible, and the Kalynda spotlight is one of them. Before ordering, check the mention on the product page and the compatibility of your wall dimmer. The rest of the options can be found in the dimmer-compatible references and the dimmable LED models.

How do you maintain an IP44 spotlight without damaging its seal?

Cut the power, wipe the trim with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry it. No direct jet, no abrasive sponge, no aggressive descaling product on the seal: it is the seal that provides splash resistance. The wattages found in the collection range from 7 W to 24 W, and recessed installation requires respecting the intended cut-out, for example ø12 cm, ø17.5 cm or ø22 cm depending on the model. The warranty ranges from 2 to 5 years depending on the reference.

Which mistakes should you avoid when choosing an IP44 spotlight?

The most frequent mistakes are choosing an unprotected spotlight near water, forgetting the available depth before picking a recessed model, and multiplying points without thinking about light and colour. Check the rating, the cut-out, the socket and the temperature before ordering.

Useful height is the classic trap: 7 cm does not fit everywhere, and some surface-mounted models reach a maximum height of 15 cm. Also bear in mind that a GU10 socket and an integrated LED are not replaced in the same way. Finally, a mix of finishes with no intention, a white here and a black there, shows up more than you would think on a continuous ceiling. To start from a coherent base, compare the modern-style spotlights.

Can an IP44 spotlight light the kitchen, the hallway or the terrace?

Yes: the spotlights in this collection are listed for the bathroom, the kitchen, the hallway, the terrace and outdoors, always with the same IP44 rating. The same model can therefore follow a continuous line between a kitchen, a hallway and a wet room, in white, black or silver.

IP44 spotlight for a modern kitchen decoration

Above a worktop, IP44 protects against cooking and washing splashes. The Quadratis square recessed spotlight at 14.5 cm and the Albora square at 17 cm line up well along a splashback and blend into a white ceiling. For a modern kitchen decoration that stays coherent, minimalist squares work better than a mix of shapes. Complete the look with the LED kitchen spotlights and the modern kitchen spotlights.

IP44 spotlight outdoors and on the terrace

Surface-mounted on a facade or under a canopy, the silver double projector at ø24 cm lights the entrance and the terrace without fearing rain. The same adjustable format suits entrance lighting or a covered passage. Simply check that the support is solid and that the fitting stays out of a direct jet. The bedroom spotlights follow the same logic in dry rooms.

All installation information is on the product pages: recess diameter, useful height, socket and temperature. Compare two or three references before deciding, then order the exact quantity in one go to avoid finish differences between two supplies.

Frequently asked questions about IP44 spotlights

What does the IP44 water-resistance rating mean?

IP44 means the fitting is protected against solid objects larger than 1 mm and against water splashes from all directions. It is this level of protection that makes a spotlight usable above a shower, a washbasin or a bath, where water splashes without immersion.

Are 1000 lumens enough to light well?

As a general guide, 1000 lumens correspond to strong lighting, suited to a wet room of average size when the light is spread over several points. On a vanity unit or a mirror, several weaker sources work better than a single very powerful one: shadows are less pronounced and reflections are better controlled.

Can you install an IP44 bathroom pendant light?

Yes, if the fitting is stated as IP44 and mounted out of reach of direct splashes. A pendant is better placed above a distant water point or in the centre of the room, never in the volume close to the shower. Recessed or surface-mounted spotlights remain simpler to integrate in a small wet room.

Black IP44 bathroom spotlights: how do you match them with the taps?

Matte or satin black works well with black taps, dark tiling or a dark worktop. On a white ceiling, it creates a discreet graphic point, particularly on adjustable models and projectors. It needs regular wiping, as dust is more visible.

Is an IP44 spotlight compatible with a dimmer?

Only if the model is designed for it: only some of the references in this collection are stated as compatible, such as the Kalynda spotlight. On the other models, dimming is not guaranteed. Before ordering, check the dimmer mention on the product page and the compatibility of your wall dimmer.
