Count one downlight per area to light, not one downlight in the centre of the room: recessed into the ceiling, it disappears once fitted and lets the light highlight the walls. This selection brings together IP65 recessed LED downlights in aluminium, white or black, round Ø 6 and 8.5 cm, square 8.5 x 8.5 cm and twin on a 9 x 17 cm plate.
What is an IP65 recessed LED downlight?
It is a light point recessed into the ceiling, whose visible face resists dust and water jets (IP65). In this collection, the body is aluminium and the source is LED, in a white or black finish. It is installed in the living room, the hallway, and in a damp room.
IP65 recessed ceiling LED downlight: what it changes
Once the trim sits flush, all that remains on the ceiling is a circle a few centimetres across: the eye reads the wall, the painting, the bookcase, not the fitting. The light falls in an even wash instead of a single point in the centre of the room. That is what sets this family apart from our entire lighting range: it lights in touches, with no bulk on the ceiling.
Why an aluminium body in a damp room
Aluminium draws heat away from the LED and does not rust: this whole selection is equipped with it. The white finish blends into a painted ceiling, while the black version of the recessed downlights draws a more graphic line. The warranty is five years across all models.
In which rooms should IP65 recessed downlights be installed?
The downlights in this collection are listed for the living room and the hallway. As they all carry an IP65 rating, they also suit damp rooms, bathroom included. For another room, the format and the colour temperature matter more than the chosen finish.
IP65 recessed LED downlight for the bathroom
The IP65 rating protects against dust and water jets: it is what allows a downlight near a washbasin or above a bathtub, in compliance with the installation zone defined for your room. An electrician confirms this point. Then aim for light that does not bounce back in the mirror, in neutral white for example.
Living room, hallway, kitchen or staircase: what use for each room
In the living room, a recessed row replaces the central light and lets the walls breathe. In a hallway, the alignment guides the step without glare. For the living area and circulation, browse lighting a living room well. Soft light for the bedroom follows other rules, lower in intensity. Kitchen lighting is planned above the worktop. Staircase downlights follow the step, landing by landing.
Warm white or neutral white: which temperature for your downlights?
Warm white, from 2700 to 3500 K, gives a soft, yellow light, pleasant in the living room at the end of the day. Neutral white, from 3500 to 4500 K, lights more sharply: 4000 K is part of it. Both exist in this collection, depending on the model chosen.
IP65 recessed LED downlight 4000K: what it looks like
A 4000 K belongs to neutral white: the light is white, with no yellow cast, and colours come out sharper. It is a common choice for a hallway, an entrance or a worktop, where you want to see clearly. In a bedroom, this rendering feels colder late in the evening. The neutral white models in this collection are therefore better kept for circulation areas and work rooms.
Mixing two temperatures in the same room
Avoid it. Two different whites side by side are immediately visible on the ceiling, one looking yellow next to the other. Keep a single temperature per room, and an identical format from one downlight to the next. On the same line, mixing Ø 6 cm and Ø 8.5 cm breaks the regularity of the light wash.
Which format to choose on the ceiling: Ø 6 cm, Ø 8.5 cm or twin plate?
The mini round downlight measures Ø 6 cm, the standard format Ø 8.5 cm, the square 8.5 x 8.5 cm, and the twin downlight is recessed on a 9 x 17 cm plate. All are in aluminium and IP65. The choice depends on the ceiling area and the number of points wanted.
Mini IP65 recessed LED downlight
The Ø 6 cm suits low ceilings, small rooms and cluttered areas where a large circle would look heavy. In this collection, it comes in white as well as black, in 6 W, with warm white or neutral white light depending on the model. The compact format of Celian illustrates this discretion on the ceiling well.
Twin downlights on a 9 x 17 cm rectangular plate
Two points on a single plate replace two separate downlights and draw a continuous line. It is the solution when the space above the ceiling is limited or when you want a regular rhythm without multiplying cut-outs. The Corvane twin downlight in black gives an example, on a GU10 base.
| Format | Dimensions | Base | Power | Available temperatures | Dimmer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mini round | Ø 6 cm | LED module | 6 W | Warm white or neutral white | On some models |
| Standard round | Ø 8.5 cm | LED module | 12 W | Warm white or neutral white | On some models |

Fixed or adjustable downlight: how to decide?
A fixed downlight lights straight below it and blends into the ceiling: that is the case for this collection, in round or square. If you need to direct the beam towards a wall, a piece of art or a worktop, an adjustable range is more suitable.
IP65 adjustable recessed LED downlight
Adjustability is chosen above all by use: it serves to aim at a painting, a brick wall or a worktop, never to light an entire room. It costs a little depth above the ceiling. Our catalogue separates the two families, with adjustable recessed downlights on one side and fixed models on the other.
Round or square: the look on the ceiling
Round is the majority in this selection and suits all ceilings, including the curves of an old living room. Square brings a more drawn line, which speaks for itself in a contemporary interior. Choose a single shape for a given room: mixing round and square on the same line is immediately noticeable.
GU10 base or LED module, and do you need a dimmer?
The integrated LED module cannot be replaced and gives a consistent rendering; the GU10 base accepts a bulb you can change yourself. Both equip this collection. Several models accept a dimmer: check this point sheet by sheet before ordering if you want to adjust the intensity.
IP65 recessed LED downlight 12V or 230V: how to check
12 V requires a transformer in the installation, 230 V corresponds to the standard domestic network, the one used by the GU10 bases and LED modules in this collection. If your existing installation is already 12 V, check compatibility before ordering with Designix customer service. The simplest thing is to look at the sheet of the model you want: the voltage is there, as are the base and the power.
Dimmer: what must appear on the product sheet
Only part of the selection accepts a dimmer. On the sheet, look for the compatibility note and the voltage: that is what determines whether your wall dimmer will work. The Ulyssa 12 W dimmable downlight is one of these models, as are the dimmer-compatible models grouped separately.
| Source type | Replacement | Rendering |
|---|---|---|
| Integrated LED module | The source is built into the downlight | Consistent, no visible bulb |
| GU10 base | The GU10 bulb is replaceable | Depends on the bulb chosen |
How to install and maintain a recessed ceiling downlight?
Switch off the power, check the cut-out diameter and the space available above the ceiling, then connect before clipping the downlight in. The aluminium body is cleaned with a soft, dry cloth; abrasive products mark the finish.
Before drilling: diameter, depth and space above the ceiling
Note the cut-out diameter given on the model sheet, then check what is behind the board: conduits, insulation, joist. A downlight needs room for its body and for heat dissipation. Mark the line with a chalk line before drilling, switch off the breaker, connect, then clip in. Finally allow a regular spacing between two points to avoid dark areas.
Cleaning an aluminium finish without marking it
A soft, dry cloth is enough, with no standing water or abrasive product, which scratch the paint on the body. Avoid green scourers and harsh cleaners. Once a year, dust the lens: accumulated dust lowers the rendering without the downlight being at fault. To replace a source, switch the power off again before any handling.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, simple returns and Designix customer service: the order is supported from start to finish. If you hesitate between two formats, tell our team the area of your room.
Were you looking instead for an LED ceiling light, an LED wall light or an LED chandelier?
A recessed downlight lights in points, an LED ceiling light covers the room with a single flow, an LED wall light dresses a wall, an LED chandelier becomes the focal point of the living room. If your search concerns these families, they are grouped in our lighting catalogue.
Living room LED ceiling light and powerful LED ceiling light: the difference from downlights
The living room LED ceiling light diffuses from a single central point: it replaces a chandelier or a pendant and suits when you do not want to cut several holes. A powerful LED ceiling light lights a large room in one go, whereas downlights are spread out for more even light. A modern LED ceiling light is chosen above all for its presence on the ceiling, unlike the downlight which fades away. See our lighting catalogue to compare.
Modern LED wall light or living room LED chandelier as a complement
An LED wall light lights a wall, a hallway or a headboard, without touching the ceiling. A living room LED wall light often accompanies downlights as accent lighting. A powerful LED wall light can be enough on its own in a small space, and a modern LED wall light acts as an object on the wall. A living room LED chandelier, for its part, structures the room around a high point. To broaden the search, see the recessed downlights with refined design and, if the room is damp, the outdoor downlights. LED ceiling lighting is composed this way, family by family.
Frequently asked questions about IP65 recessed LED downlights
Where can I find LED downlights for the ceiling?
This collection gathers IP65 recessed LED downlights intended for the ceiling, in a white or black finish and with an aluminium body. You will find round formats Ø 6 and 8.5 cm, squares and twins on a plate, with warm white or neutral white light.
What is the standard for IP65 downlights in the bathroom?
In a bathroom, it is the protection rating that counts: IP65 means the downlight is protected against dust and water jets. This whole selection is IP65. The final choice depends on the installation zone, to be confirmed with your electrician.
Can an IP65 recessed LED downlight be fitted in a bathroom?
Yes, the IP65 rating of these downlights destines them for damp rooms, and therefore for the bathroom, provided the installation zone planned for your room is respected. The format, the colour temperature and the number of points are then chosen according to the area and the light wanted.
How many LED downlights should be planned for a living room ceiling?
There is no single number: everything depends on the area, the ceiling height and the power of the points chosen. The safest approach is to spread the downlights regularly, keep the same colour temperature and an identical format for a readable ceiling.
What is the difference between an IP65 recessed LED downlight 12V and 230V?
12 V requires a transformer in the installation; 230 V corresponds to the standard domestic network, the one used by the GU10 bases and LED modules in this collection. If your existing installation is 12 V, check compatibility before ordering with Designix customer service.
