Start by locating the mounting surface: under a deck, an awning, a kitchen or hallway ceiling. An IP65 outdoor recessed spotlight fits there, in aluminium, and resists both water spray and the humidity of a room. Depending on the model, it runs on a GU10 bulb you replace or on an integrated LED, and the whole selection is guaranteed for five years.
What is an IP65 outdoor recessed spotlight?
An IP65 outdoor recessed spotlight is an aluminium light fitting that sits inside a hollow mounting surface, a ceiling, an awning or a deck underside, and whose IP65 rating makes it immune to water spray. The body sits flush with the surface, only the light extends beyond it. The whole selection is guaranteed for five years.
A GU10 bulb unit or an integrated LED unit
Both families coexist. With a GU10 socket, you choose the bulb and replace it when it weakens. That is the case for square models such as Blancor and several round ones. With an integrated LED, the module is factory-fitted: beam and colour temperature set, nothing to plan for in use.
What the IP65 rating actually means
IP65 protects against water jets and dust, which allows outdoor use but also a bathroom, a kitchen or a hallway. The aluminium body withstands humidity without rusting. If you are looking for a fitting without recessing, another format will suit better: browse our full lighting range to compare the families.
Where to install IP65 outdoor recessed spotlights?
Anywhere there is a hollow mounting surface: under a roof overhang, a deck or awning underside, but also on the ceiling of a kitchen, a hallway, a living room and a bathroom. The IP65 protection resists humidity and spray, which opens up these rooms without restriction. Then it is a matter of choosing the spot that really works.
Under a roof overhang or a deck underside
Two or three points aligned above a path or a corner of a deck mark the way and extend the evening outdoors. Black models blend in when the boards are dark: see the black finishes. A narrow square keeps a crisp angle under an awning. To compare the available units, our range of outdoor recessed spotlights gathers the formats.
In a damp room: kitchen, hallway, living room
Above a worktop, a recessed light makes the cut-out readable and works the material. For a recessed light for the kitchen, a 6 W placed near the wall is often enough. The hallway gains a regular path of light, which helps light a hallway without multiplying the light points.
Which light to choose outdoors: warm white or neutral white?
Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, lights like a classic bulb and suits a deck or an entrance where you host guests. Neutral white, between 3500 and 4500 K, makes reliefs and colours more readable under an awning, in a kitchen or in a hallway. The choice is made by the model, not after purchase.
Warm white 2700-3500 K for a deck
A warm light relaxes the space and flatters both wood and stone. That is the rendering of Ulyssa, Aurion, Veldon and Velara, in 6 or 12 W depending on the area to cover. Several of them accept a dimmer, to be found among the dimmable models.
Neutral white 3500-4500 K to see and secure
Whiter, it brings out contrasts and proves more readable on a doorstep or a worktop. Ebonis, Velasca, Albina, Ipseva, Sylvara, Talvina, Celian and Ondor are in this shade, the most represented among the integrated LED versions. The whole section remains available to browse in all outdoor LED lighting.
Outdoor recessed spotlight with LED or GU10 socket: which to choose?
The GU10 socket lets you choose the bulb and replace it when it weakens. The integrated LED fixes the beam and the light temperature at purchase, with no bulb to plan for. In both cases, the body is aluminium, the protection IP65 and the warranty runs for five years.
| Solution | Light source | What you choose | Examples from the selection |
|---|---|---|---|
| GU10 socket | Replaceable GU10 bulb | Bulb type and temperature, replacement as it wears | Blancor, Noiris, Aldiva, Rosalba |
| Integrated LED | Factory-fitted LED module | Nothing to plan for, beam and temperature set | Ebonis, Velasca, Albina, Ipseva, Sylvara, Talvina |
The GU10 socket when you want to choose the bulb
You keep control over the shade and the intensity, and you replace the bulb without changing the fitting. The 8.5 x 8.5 cm squares work this way, as do several round models from Ø 8.5 cm at 10 W. For a discreet rendering on a dark surface, the black indoor recessed lights and Noiris follow this logic.
The integrated LED when you do not want to think about it
The fitting is installed, switched on and asks for nothing more. That is the case for Ebonis, Velasca and most of the round models. If you hesitate between the two, note that the white models come in both technologies.
What diameter and wattage for an outdoor recessed spotlight?
Round models come in Ø 6 cm and Ø 8.5 cm, square versions in 8.5 x 8.5 cm. Wattages range from 6 W to 12 W: the lowest suit a close recess, the highest a high ceiling or an area to cover more widely. The diameter is chosen first on the thickness of the mounting surface.
| Format | Dimensions | Wattage | Base | Examples from the selection |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Round | Ø 6 cm | 6 W | Integrated LED | Albina, Ipseva, Celian, Ondor |
| Round | Ø 8.5 cm | 12 W | Integrated LED | Ebonis, Velasca, Sylvara, Talvina |
| Round | Ø 8.5 cm | 10 W | GU10 | Aldiva, Rosalba |
| Square | 8.5 x 8.5 cm | 10 W | GU10 | Blancor, Noiris |
Round or square
The round one blends into a ceiling or a deck underside, especially in white: see white outdoor LED spotlights such as Albina in Ø 6 cm. The square one marks a grid, useful when several points align under an awning.
6 W, 10 W or 12 W
The 6 W goes near the wall, on a small recess, and serves as a supplement: that is the case for Ipseva and Ondor, while Talvina, at 12 W, takes over on a high ceiling. The 10 W handles most situations, the 12 W takes over on a high ceiling. A worked design also changes the rendering, as in recessed lights with a worked design.
Once the diameter is settled, check the depth available behind the mounting surface and choose the wattage accordingly: that choice decides the comfort, not the number of points.
How to lay out spotlights on the ceiling?
Spotlights are aligned on what you want to light: path, worktop, doorstep, corner of a deck. Keep a regular gap between two points to avoid dark zones, and move the points away from the wall so the light is not cut off. The format and wattage are chosen afterwards.
Align the spotlights on the areas to light
Two points above a worktop, one above a sink, two on the corner of a deck: the light follows the use rather than symmetry. Above a worktop, kitchen LED lighting is set this way. In a living room, fewer well-placed points are better than many diffuse ones.
Keep a regular gap and move away from the wall
A constant spacing gives a readable path of light along a hallway or a path. Choose the gap according to the format: Ø 6 cm at 6 W for a close recess, Ø 8.5 cm at 10 or 12 W for a high ceiling, with a number of points suited to the area (path, worktop, corner of a deck). Move the first point a few dozen centimetres from the wall so the beam is not cut off by the angle.
How to wire spotlights in series or in parallel?
A parallel connection feeds each spotlight directly: all receive the same voltage and if one fails, the others keep working. In series, the spotlights share the voltage and one point going out cuts the line. For these GU10 socket or LED spotlights, you wire in parallel.
Parallel wiring
Each fitting receives two wires from the common line. The voltage stays identical on all points, and troubleshooting is limited to the spotlight concerned. This is the solution chosen for an alignment under an awning as well as for a hallway ceiling, with black recessed LED lights or white ones.
Series wiring and its limits
Series is reserved for very low voltage with a transformer, not for the 230 V of these recessed lights. It divides the voltage between the points and brings down the whole line at the first fault. If you are looking to adjust the beam rather than the wiring, look instead at if you want to direct the beam.
Black, white or gold IP65 recessed spotlight: what rendering and what care?
Black blends into a dark underside and underlines deck boards, white merges into a light ceiling, gold stands out on a facade or an entrance. A soft cloth and soapy water are enough for cleaning; the unit is not opened to wash it.
Match the finish to the surface
On dark deck boards, Aurion in black almost disappears and leaves only the light. On a white ceiling, a white unit is easily forgotten. For a visible touch on an entrance, the gold finishes play on contrast, and dimming on the LED side lets you lower the intensity in the evening.
Clean without damaging the protection
Aluminium and the seal withstand humidity, but not abrasive products or a direct high-pressure jet. A soft cloth, soapy water and a light rinse preserve the sealing. The unit is not taken apart: the IP65 protection depends on its factory assembly.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and Designix customer service: you order, you compare the rendering on site, and you adjust if needed.
Frequently asked questions
E27 outdoor bulb: what solution for a recessed spotlight?
No spotlight in this selection uses an E27 socket: the models run either on a GU10 bulb or on an integrated LED. For an E27 bulb outdoors, you need to turn to an E27 socket fitting, often a wall light or a floodlight rather than a recessed light.
Outdoor wall light for a deck: when to prefer it to a recessed spotlight?
An outdoor wall light is surface-mounted and lights downwards or upwards, without cutting a recess in the mounting surface. A recessed spotlight, on the other hand, disappears into the underside and suits when the surface is already prepared for recessing. On a deck, the two are often combined.
How many spotlights in a kitchen?
The number depends on the area and the wattage chosen, not on a single rule. Place one point above the work areas and spread the rest at a regular gap, avoiding leaving a dark zone between two spotlights. The 6 W models suit close recesses, the 10 and 12 W ones large surfaces.
12 V IP65 outdoor recessed spotlight: is it possible?
The models in this collection connect to the mains, with a GU10 socket or an integrated LED. 12 V refers to a very low voltage installation that requires a transformer and suitable wiring; this selection does not include a 12 V version.
IP65 outdoor recessed spotlights: what is in this selection?
Aluminium spotlights, IP65 protected, guaranteed for five years, to be recessed under a roof overhang, a deck underside or in a damp room. They come round or square, in black or white, with a GU10 bulb or an integrated LED, and some models accept a dimmer.
