Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right light output?
Allow about 100 to 300 lumens per m²: about 150 lm/m² for a living room, about 350 for a kitchen. Each product page lists the lumens.
At what height should the light be installed?
Above a table: 70-85 cm from the tabletop; in a walkway: at least 2.10 m of clearance below the bulb.
What type of bulb?
Usually E27 or E14, sometimes GU10. Specified on each product page.
Compatible with LEDs and dimmers?
Yes, in most cases; for use with a dimmer, look for the “dimmable” mention.

This selection brings together recessed GU10 garden spotlights, all in aluminium and IP65, in round or square versions, single or double on a plate. The GU10 base stays replaceable: the bulb can be changed without touching the fitting. For spike or surface-mounted versions, you need to look at other ranges, as this collection only offers recessed models.

What is in this collection of GU10 garden spotlights?

Sixteen recessed references, all in aluminium, IP65, with a GU10 base and 10 W. The single round ones measure Ø 8.5 cm (Rosalba, Encastris, Aldiva, Ipix, Aurelis) or Ø 8.4 cm (Encora, Liseris), the square ones 8.5 × 8.5 cm (Noiris, Blancor), and the double ones fit on a 9 × 17 cm plate. Three colours, black, white and gold, cover outdoor spaces as well as kitchens, hallways and living rooms.

GU10 LED garden spotlight: a replaceable base, not a sealed block

GU10 is a two-pin standard: you unclip the bulb, you clip in another. The fitting stays in place, the aluminium ages without being replaced, and you adjust the mood by changing the bulb rather than the spotlight. It is the recessed LED models that most often follow this logic, from the discreet round to the square.

GU10 garden ceiling spotlights: fitting in a soffit or a slab

Under a roof overhang, in a terrace slab, a hallway ceiling or above a worktop, recessing makes the fitting disappear. The Noiris, black square spotlight, lines up cleanly on a straight support, while the Blancor, white recessed square, disappears into a painted ceiling.

Do you need an IP44 or IP65 GU10 garden spotlight?

The whole collection is IP65, a rating that protects against dust and water splashes. IP44 is enough under a canopy where the fitting stays sheltered from rain. For a terrace, a facade wall or a soffit exposed to the weather, an IP65 GU10 garden spotlight remains the most sensible choice.

IP65 on a terrace: what it changes day to day

The seal and the trim ring stop water from entering the bulb housing. The fitting recessed into an exposed support therefore keeps working after a shower, without this meaning a guaranteed lifespan outdoors. Cleaning is limited to a cloth.

IP44 or IP65 for a kitchen or a bathroom?

These rooms see steam and splashes. The aluminium and IP65 of the LED garden spotlights are at home there, as the Aldiva round white shows, fitted just as well on a bathroom ceiling as under a canopy.

How to arrange spotlights on a ceiling?

Align the spotlights on the axis of the room or parallel to the wall to be lit, with an even spacing between points. Keep the first one far enough from the wall to avoid too marked a halo on the surface. A double model on a plate reduces the number of recesses to drill.

Under a roof overhang: align rather than multiply

A regular rhythm of round spotlights of 8.4 or 8.5 cm lights a covered terrace without piling up light points. Two or three well-spaced sources are better than a tight line that draws patches on the ground. The recessed format makes the hardware disappear and lets the light show.

Hallway and kitchen: rhythm before power

In a hallway, regularly distributed 10 W points give more even lighting than a single very strong point, which leaves dark areas. Find these layouts in the hallway and circulation special and the kitchen lighting.

Formats and dimensions of the GU10 spotlights in the collection
Format Measured dimensions Where to fit it What it changes
Single round spotlight Ø 8.5 cm Soffit, slab, hallway, kitchen The most discreet point, to align in a series
Single round spotlight Ø 8.4 cm Terrace ceiling, bathroom, living room Close format, different result depending on the trim ring
Square spotlight 8.5 × 8.5 cm Light ceiling, plastered wall, kitchen Lines aligned on a straight support
Double spotlight on a plate L 9 cm, D 17 cm Terrace, wide hallway, kitchen Two light points in a single recess
Double spotlight with reflector L 9 cm, D 17 cm Terrace, living room, bathroom Directs the light towards the area to be lit

How many spotlights in a kitchen?

The number depends on the surface and the areas to be lit: worktop, circulation, dining corner. Lighting distributed over several points avoids cast shadows, better than a single very powerful point. The recessed GU10 spotlights in this collection, at 10 W and Ø 8.4 to 8.5 cm, fit in a kitchen as well as a hallway.

Worktop and circulation: two distinct needs

Above the worktop, you want direct light that makes movements clear. For circulation, more diffuse lighting is enough. The recessed spotlights for kitchens cover both registers, and the adjustable spotlights let you direct the beam where you work.

White or black on a kitchen ceiling?

On a light painted ceiling, a white spotlight blends in and leaves only the light visible: see the Ipix with trim ring. On a dark ceiling or dark furniture, a black square like the Noiris marks a clean line without shouting.

E27 or GU10 bulb for a garden spotlight?

The GU10 base is the standard of this collection: the bulb clips in with two pins and is replaced individually. The E27 base, with a wide screw, is used on other families of outdoor fittings, such as some lanterns or wall lights. Always check the indicated base before buying a bulb.

GU10 4000K garden spotlights: what light for a terrace?

The result comes from the bulb you install, not the fitting. Around 3000 K, the light leans warm and suits a terrace or a living room. Around 4000 K, it becomes more neutral and whiter, useful in a hallway or on a work area. No bulb is supplied with the spotlights.

GU10 LED garden spotlights: which model for a hallway or a living room?

For a hallway, the compact formats of 8.4 to 8.5 cm align without cluttering. For a large surface, a double on a plate covers more widely with a single recess. These layouts can be found in the designer LED garden spotlights and the living room result.

Which colour of GU10 garden spotlight to choose: black, white or gold?

Black disappears on a dark support, a frame or a dark facade. White blends into a light ceiling, a plaster or a painted panel. Gold, rarer, highlights a facade or a living room with a warm finish. All three exist in aluminium, IP65 and 10 W.

White garden spotlights for a light ceiling

White suits kitchens, bathrooms and painted ceilings, where it becomes almost invisible. The full range of discreet white finishes goes from the contemporary Encora Ø 8.4 cm to the Solvane double on a plate.

Black versions and gold finish: when to prefer them

Black structures a dark facade or a hallway: the black versions for dark facades go from the Encastris with wide trim ring to the Liseris with gold edging. Gold, for its part, is reserved for light supports, with the gold Aurelis.

Colours, style and room
Colour Associated style Rooms where it works best Examples from the collection
Black Minimalist Dark facade, terrace, hallway Noiris, Encastris, Corvane
White Minimalist and contemporary Kitchen, bathroom, light ceiling, living room Blancor, Encora, Ipix, Aldiva, Solvane
Gold Modern Terrace, living room, light facade Aurelis

How to wire spotlights in series or in parallel?

In parallel, each spotlight receives the same voltage and stays independent of the others: this is the usual wiring to light several areas. In series, the spotlights share the circuit and switch on together, with a distributed voltage. Cut the power before any connection and carefully identify each conductor.

Parallel: several spotlights on the same switch

Parallel wiring lets you light a terrace or a hallway while keeping consistent operation, each point receiving the same supply. If you want to adjust the intensity, turn to the dimmer-compatible versions, provided the chosen GU10 bulb is too.

Identifying conductors before connection

Identify live, neutral and earth before tightening any terminal, and work with the power off, breaker switched off. Use the connector blocks or terminals supplied with the fitting, without shortening the wires. Clean identification avoids having to take everything apart on the first try.

Outdoor terrace wall light or recessed GU10 spotlight: what to choose?

The wall light is surface-mounted on a wall: it lights downwards and can be seen from afar. The recessed GU10 spotlight, for its part, disappears into the support and is chosen when that support already exists: soffit, slab or panel. On a terrace, the two can coexist, the wall light for the wall, the spotlight for the ceiling.

Facade wall: marking the entrance and the path

Visible wall lighting draws an entrance and guides the step along a wall. The recessed spotlight stays more discreet and is only useful if there is a material to drill. For a wall with no possible recess, browse all our Designix light fittings and the metal spotlights. With no connection at all, solar solutions with no wiring remain an option.

Terrace ceiling: recessing to make the fitting disappear

Under a terrace ceiling, recessing in IP65 aluminium gives a clean line: the black Cervo, round or square, fits in either geometry. The result depends on the chosen support, not on the effect of the fitting.

How to install and maintain a GU10 garden spotlight?

Install with the power off, on a sound support with enough clearance for the spotlight format. After fitting, check that the fitting is held in its housing and that no water stagnates around the trim ring. Cleaning with clear water and a soft cloth preserves the aluminium.

Secure payment, tracked delivery and Designix returns

The recessed GU10 spotlights in aluminium and IP65 fit into a dedicated cut-out: the round ones measure Ø 8.5 cm and the square ones 8.5 × 8.5 cm, and the aluminium cleans with a soft cloth. If you hesitate between a 8.5 cm round and a 8.5 × 8.5 cm square, have the cut-out confirmed before drilling. Also browse the modern style and the adjustable recessed spotlights to refine your choice.

5-year warranty and customer service: what is covered

The 5-year warranty applies to the whole selection, round, square and double spotlights on a plate included. It covers the fitting; the GU10 bulb, replaceable, is chosen separately according to the desired mood. The Corvane double with reflector and the Rosalba Ø 8.5 cm benefit from it like the rest of the collection.

Frequently asked questions about GU10 garden spotlights

Outdoor E27 bulb: is it compatible with a GU10 spotlight?

No. The two-pin GU10 base and the wide-screw E27 base are not interchangeable. This collection is exclusively GU10, an E27 bulb will not fit. If you are looking for an outdoor fitting with an E27 screw, turn to another family, such as lanterns or wall lights.

GU10 4000K garden spotlights: which temperature to choose?

The colour temperature depends on the bulb installed, not the fitting. Around 3000 K, the light is warm and suits terraces, living rooms and entrances. Around 4000 K, it is more neutral and whiter, suited to hallways and work areas. Keep the same temperature on the same line of spotlights to avoid visible differences.

GU10 terrace garden spotlights: which model for a terrace ceiling?

Choose an IP65 recessed model in aluminium, in Ø 8.4 or 8.5 cm for a single point, like the Aldiva or the Ipix. The double spotlight on a plate, 9 × 17 cm, lights a larger surface with a single recess and suits wide covered terraces.

Outdoor terrace wall light: how to choose it?

The wall light is fixed surface-mounted on a wall, with no recess, and lights downwards. It suits when the support cannot be drilled or when you want to mark an entrance. The recessed GU10 spotlight, for its part, disappears into a soffit, a slab or a panel, and is reserved for supports already ready to receive a cut-out.

How to maintain an aluminium GU10 garden spotlight?

Cut the power before any work, then clean the trim ring with clear water and a soft cloth, without abrasive product. Check from time to time that the fitting stays well held in its housing and that no water stagnates around the seal. The GU10 bulb is then replaced without dismantling the spotlight.
