To choose a mini spotlight, first check the socket (GU10 or E14), then the protection rating, IP20 for dry rooms, and finally the size: the models in this selection range from 6 to 12 cm in diameter. Allow one spotlight per area to be lit, worktop, table or walkway, rather than a regular row.
What is the size of a mini spotlight and how much space should you allow?
A mini spotlight measures just a few centimetres: the Focus models have a diameter of 6 cm or a body 5.4 cm wide, and the Bali bamboo spotlight a diameter of 12 cm. The white mini spotlight adjusts from 40 to 180 cm in height, the black one stays fixed at 17.9 cm.
What is the size of a mini spotlight?
A mini spotlight disappears into the ceiling and lets the room breathe. The white mini spotlight with adjustable height lets you choose the height, from 40 to 180 cm, so the light can sit higher or lower depending on the room. The black model is just 5.4 cm wide by 17.9 cm high, and the Bali 12 cm in diameter. To compare formats side by side, browse our range of minimalist spotlights.
Recessed 220V LED mini spotlight: what dimensions should you plan for in the ceiling?
A mini spotlight with a GU10 or E14 socket connects to the home's mains supply, at 220 V, with no remote transformer: the socket is what powers the bulb. Allow air around the fitting to dissipate the lamp's heat, and check the available depth before drilling into a slab or a false ceiling.
How should you arrange spotlights on a living room ceiling?
Spotlights are arranged by starting from the areas to be lit: worktop, table, walkway, corner of the room. One spotlight per useful area is better than a regular row. The layout is drawn on the floor before drilling, checking that no spotlight shines into the back of the person working.
What is a ceiling spotlight layout plan?
The layout plan is the positioning map of the spotlights, drawn before installation. You note the position of furniture, worktops and doors, then install one light point per use. This step avoids drilling at random and discovering a dark area once the holes are made. For overall light, a ceiling light to illuminate the whole room complements these targeted points well.
What distance between spotlights on the ceiling?
There is no single spacing: the distance depends on the beam angle of the bulb and the surface to be covered. Too close together, two mini spotlights create two visible patches; too far apart, they leave a dark hole between them. Draw the plan on the floor and judge the result by eye before drilling. Above a table, one or two minimalist pendant lights often work better than a line of spotlights.
Recessed LED mini spotlight or directional wall spotlight: which to choose?
A recessed mini spotlight disappears into the ceiling and shows only its beam; a directional spotlight stays visible and can be aimed at a wall, a worktop or an object. The Bali bamboo spotlight belongs to this second family: it is mounted on a wall or ceiling and suits rooms where you want to move the light around.
Recessed LED mini spotlight: what it changes in the ceiling
A recessed spotlight shows only its light: the ceiling keeps a clean line, which suits low rooms. On the other hand, you have to drill and allow for the available depth, as well as a suitable fitting. If you do not want to touch the slab, compare with the clean-lined wall lights.
Directional LED mini spotlight: when is it the better choice?
A directional spotlight can be turned towards a painting, a worktop or a reading corner, and adjusted without tools when the room changes use. The Bali directional bamboo spotlight is mounted on a wall or ceiling, with no slab to cut. It is also a good choice when the light needs to meet a precise need rather than illuminate broadly.
Which socket and wattage for a mini LED spotlight?
The socket determines the bulb and its replacement. The two Focus MINI Spotlights use a GU10 socket rated at 10 W; the Bali bamboo spotlight uses an E14 socket rated at 40 W. In both cases the bulb can be changed, and only the bamboo version accepts a dimmer.
| Socket | Rated wattage | Type of spotlight | Models concerned | What it implies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GU10 | 10 W | Aluminium mini spotlight, directional | Focus MINI Spotlight white, Focus MINI Spotlight black | Spotlight bulb to replace in its fitting |
| E14 | 40 W | Directional spotlight for wall or ceiling | Bali bamboo spotlight | Classic screw socket, simple replacement |
Mini LED spotlight GU10 or E14?
The GU10 clicks in with a quarter turn, the E14 screws in. The first is fitted to the two black mini spotlights with GU10 socket in the selection, the second to the Bali. Note the socket of your model before ordering a replacement bulb: it is the only piece of information that avoids a wasted trip. For a complete room, a minimalist light fixture takes over when the spotlight is no longer enough.
10 W or 40 W: which wattage for which use?
The rated wattage ranges from 10 W on the two Focus models to 40 W on the Bali. It is used to dose the lighting: more moderate for a night light or a walkway, stronger for a worktop or a reading corner. Since the bulb remains replaceable, the wattage can change with how the room is used, without changing the fixture.
