Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right light output?
Allow about 100 to 300 lumens per m²: about 150 lm/m² for a living room, about 350 for a kitchen. Each product page lists the lumens.
At what height should the light be installed?
Above a table: 70-85 cm from the tabletop; in a walkway: at least 2.10 m of clearance below the bulb.
What type of bulb?
Usually E27 or E14, sometimes GU10. Specified on each product page.
Compatible with LEDs and dimmers?
Yes, in most cases; for use with a dimmer, look for the “dimmable” mention.

Start with the socket, GU10 or E27, then decide which room you are lighting: that is what determines which green spotlights to mount on the ceiling. The green finish covers the body of the fixture, while the light itself comes from the LED bulb you fit into the socket.

What light do green spotlights give off?

The green finish refers to the body of the spotlight, not the colour of the light. It is the LED bulb fitted in the GU10 or E27 socket that produces the beam, white or warm depending on the model you choose. A green spotlight therefore adds a touch of colour to the ceiling without tinting the room green.

Green spotlights: what the shade changes on the ceiling

On a white ceiling, a green spotlight reads as a graphic dot: the eye drops towards the room, not up to the ceiling. The shade stays understated as long as you keep a single green for every point. If you hesitate, a white model blends away completely, as with a white finish on the ceiling, while a matte black spotlight marks the ceiling far more.

Coloured spotlights by room: subtle or bold

In a hallway or a walk-in closet, a discreet green is enough and barely draws attention. In an entrance or a bright room, it becomes a deliberate decorative choice. The Marvesora cylindrical adjustable spotlight comes in green, but also in white, taupe, pink, blue, brown or black: you can line one green up with the walls and keep the other points neutral. To vary the shades without changing range, minimalist style spotlights keep the same restraint of form.

To aim the beam at a precise surface, the Marvesora cylindrical adjustable spotlight mounts on the ceiling and is adjusted after installation. Find the adjustable models in adjustable LED spotlights.

Where should you install green spotlights at home?

The green spotlights in the collection are designed for the kitchen, hallway, living room, entrance and walk-in closet. All carry an IP20 rating: they are fitted indoors, in dry rooms, on the ceiling. In a hallway they mark out the passage, in a kitchen they light the worktop.

Choosing a green spotlight by room
Room What guides the choice Available socket Protection rating What to check
Kitchen Lighting the worktop GU10 or E27 IP20 Length to cover
Hallway Marking the passage without glare GU10 or E27 IP20 Alignment of the points
Living room Directed accent light GU10 or E27 IP20 Direction of the swivel
Entrance Drop zone or mirror GU10 or E27 IP20 Width of the beam
Walk-in closet Aiming at rails and shelves GU10 or E27 IP20 Number of points

A green spotlight for a hallway or entrance

In a narrow hallway, space the points evenly to avoid dark zones between two spotlights. In the entrance, a point aimed at the drop zone is useful without lighting the whole room. The number you need depends on the length of the hallway, not on a fixed rule.

Lighting a kitchen worktop with green spotlights

Aim at the worktop, never at the eyes: a beam directed downwards lights your hands and the food. For a linear run, the Dashiell three-light bar spreads three points over a single base. To complete the mood, lighting a whole kitchen means combining worktop and circulation.

Adjustable green spotlight or fixed green spotlight: how do you choose?

An adjustable spotlight can be aimed at the worktop, a picture or a precise zone: its swivel or joint lets you set the beam after installation. A fixed spotlight lights straight below itself. For a hallway or a walk-in closet, adjustability helps you target the useful zones without multiplying the light points.

Beltorora swivel spotlight or Livvesisto jointed spotlight?

The Beltorora swivel spotlight is a round model on a rail, in steel and plastic, with an E27 socket: handy when you want to choose the bulb yourself. The Livvesisto jointed spotlight takes a 16 cm tube shape and a GU10 socket, for a pin-based LED bulb.

Cylindrical adjustable LED spotlight: ceiling mounting

The adjustable cylinder is the most common shape in the selection, in steel, 19 cm long for the Marvesora and 16 cm for the Livvesisto. Both models share the GU10 socket and a maximum power of 1 x 5W LED per point. For a result that blends better into a dark ceiling, look at dark adjustable spotlights; in a recessed version, recessed spotlights sit flush with the surface.

GU10 or E27: which socket for a green spotlight?

The socket determines the bulb you fit. The green models with a GU10 socket take a pin-based LED bulb, with a maximum power of 1 x 5W LED per point; the Beltorora swivel spotlight, in E27, accepts a screw bulb up to 1 x 15W. Check the socket before buying your bulbs.

GU10 and E27: two ways to equip a green spotlight
Socket Bulb to provide Stated maximum power Green models concerned
GU10 Pin-based LED bulb 1 x 5W LED per point Marvesora, Livvesisto, Dashiell
E27 Screw bulb 1 x 15W Beltorora

Green spotlight in GU10: a dedicated LED bulb

The GU10 is bought with the spotlight or separately, and you choose the colour temperature of the bulb. Stay below the maximum power stated on the product sheet, here 1 x 5W LED per point. The Dashiell bar has three of them, so 3 x 5W LED in total.

Green spotlight in E27: the screw bulb of your choice

With an E27 socket, you take the bulb you want within the limit of 1 x 15W, including a connected or dimmable bulb. If you want to adjust the brightness, compare with dimmable spotlights and their LED version, dimmable LED spotlights.

How do you match green spotlights with your decor?

Green suits white, beige or taupe walls and light woodwork. On a white ceiling, green spotlights draw a discreet, colourful line; in a room that is already tinted, it is better to repeat a single model. The collection also covers white, black, taupe, pink and blue.

Green chandelier or green spotlights on the ceiling: which to choose?

A chandelier takes the centre and lights widely; spotlights are spread over the surface and aimed at the useful zones. In a living room, several adjustable points replace a chandelier when the light must stay discreet on the ceiling. For a living space, living room lighting is often made up of several points rather than a single one.

Green spotlights and neighbouring colours: pink, blue, gold

Spread one shade per room rather than mixing greens, pinks and blues on the same ceiling. A green that answers a pink spotlight in a child's bedroom works; elsewhere, keep a single colour. For a warmer result, a gold finish or steel spotlights sit well with green without competing with it. Greys also pair well, see grey spotlights.

How do you install and maintain a green spotlight?

These spotlights are fixed to the ceiling, indoors in a dry room, and wired to the room's circuit. The IP20 rating makes them suitable for dry rooms only: neither bathroom nor outdoor use. A soft cloth is enough for the steel, and it is best to cut the power before any work. The selection is guaranteed for 2 years.

Fixing a green spotlight to the ceiling: what to check

Mark the points before drilling, taking into account the direction of the swivel or joint. Cut the power at the breaker, connect, then switch back on. Finally check the socket and the maximum power of the bulb fitted. For a damp room or a facade, switch instead to outdoor spotlights.

Cleaning a steel spotlight without scratching the finish

A soft, slightly damp cloth is enough on steel and plastic. Avoid abrasives and harsh products, which dull the shade. Cut the power before handling a spotlight, and let the bulb cool if it has just been on.

How do you choose and order your green spotlights?

Compare the shade, the socket, the maximum power and the dimensions on each model's sheet, then order with confidence: the Designix store offers secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and a customer service team you can reach to confirm colour, material and format.

Checking the shade, socket and dimensions before ordering

The perceived shade varies from one screen to another: compare several photos, read the detailed sheet and measure the intended location. A 19 cm cylinder and a 13 cm round do not take up the same volume on the ceiling. Browse minimalist style spotlights and our lighting catalogue.

Tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service

Before ordering your bulbs, check the socket (GU10 or E27) and the maximum power (1 x 5W LED or 1 x 15W). The rest of the Designix lighting range follows the same procedure.

Frequently asked questions about green spotlights

Can green spotlights be installed in a bathroom or outdoors?

No: all the green spotlights in the collection carry an IP20 protection rating, intended for indoor use in dry rooms. They are suitable neither for a bathroom nor for outdoor use. For those rooms, look at the outdoor spotlight collections or other models suited to damp conditions.

How many green spotlights are needed to cover a kitchen worktop?

The number depends on the length of the worktop and the spacing you want between the points, not on a fixed rule. The Dashiell three-light bar spreads the light along a linear run, while a single cylindrical adjustable spotlight suits a targeted preparation zone.

Green chandelier or green spotlights: what should you choose for a living room ceiling?

A chandelier takes the centre of the ceiling and lights widely; green spotlights are spread over the surface and aimed at the useful zones. In a living room, several adjustable spotlights replace a chandelier when the light must stay discreet on the ceiling and focus on a wall or a bookcase.

What power for a green spotlight?

Each green spotlight states a maximum power linked to its socket: 1 x 5W LED for the GU10 models, 1 x 15W for the E27 model, and 3 x 5W LED for the three-point bar. This is a ceiling not to be exceeded, stated on the product sheet.

How do you check the shade of a green spotlight before ordering?

The perceived shade varies from one screen to another: compare several photos of the product, read the detailed sheet and contact Designix customer service with any question about colour, material or dimensions. Secure payment and returns let you confirm the shade once it arrives.
