Allow about 100 to 300 lumens per m²: about 150 lm/m² for a living room, about 350 for a kitchen. Each product page lists the lumens.
At what height should the light be installed?
Above a table: 70-85 cm from the tabletop; in a walkway: at least 2.10 m of clearance below the bulb.
What type of bulb?
Usually E27 or E14, sometimes GU10. Specified on each product page.
Compatible with LEDs and dimmers?
Yes, in most cases; for use with a dimmer, look for the “dimmable” mention.

Plan one point per use area, kitchen, hallway or living room, then choose the recessed version if the fixture should disappear into the ceiling, the track model if it needs to move and be aimed. All the spotlights in this selection are integrated mains-powered LEDs, controlled wirelessly via Casambi with a built-in dimmer, in warm white 2700-3500 K or neutral white 3500-4500 K.

What is a wireless spotlight and how does it work?

A wireless spotlight is an LED spotlight connected to the mains but controlled without control wiring. Brightness and light temperature are adjusted through the Casambi app, with no wire run between the switch and the fixture. All the models in the selection are dimmable, rated IP20 for dry rooms and IP65 for two round references.

How does a wireless LED spotlight work?

The LED is built into the fixture, so there is no bulb to change and no base to choose: the spec sheet lists an LED base. The module receives the on and dimming commands wirelessly, and every model accepts both temperatures, warm white for atmosphere and neutral white for reading materials. The VIP1T round domed adjustable recessed spotlight illustrates the principle well: an LED module in a 7.5 cm diameter body, adjustable, with brightness set from a phone. To place these references within the whole house, see our lighting catalogue.

Wireless spotlight or rechargeable spotlight: don't confuse them

Here, wireless refers to control, not power: these spotlights stay connected to the mains and do not recharge. A battery model can be installed without a power supply, but it offers neither the same output nor the same consistency, and it has to be taken down to recharge. If your need is fine adjustment without building work, the dimmable spotlights family answers the problem more accurately than a portable fixture.

Which wireless spotlight to choose for each room?

The room decides the format before the style does. In a kitchen, a small-diameter adjustable recessed model is aimed at the worktop. In a hallway, a flush model holds a regular grid. In the living room, an adjustable or track model serves as an accent on a wall, a shelf or a picture.

Which wireless spotlight for which room
Room Spotlight type Protection rating Light temperature What to remember
Kitchen Adjustable recessed, small diameter IP20 Neutral white on the worktop, warm white for meals Aimed at the activity area
Hallway Flush recessed IP20 Warm white Regular grid, out of the line of sight
Living room Adjustable recessed or track IP20 Warm white in the evening, neutral during the day Accent on a wall or shelf
Dressing room Small-diameter recessed IP20 Neutral white Lights the inside of wardrobes
Bathroom Round IP65 recessed IP65 Neutral white Resists splashes
Outdoors and terrace Round IP65 recessed IP65 Warm white Metal and steel finish

In the kitchen, above the worktop

An adjustable spotlight placed in front of the wall unit reaches down to the prep area and towards the sink, whereas a fixed point lights empty space. Neutral white brings out the colour of food and the material of the worktops. The small VIP1 Mini format, with its 6.5 cm diameter and 9.8 cm height, slips in where there is no room between the wall and the cabinet. Find zone-by-zone layouts in lighting a kitchen worktop and in recessed spotlights above cabinets.

In the hallway and living room

A hallway needs regularity more than power: aligned points, kept at a good distance from the walls, avoid patches. In the living room, an adjustable model is used to place an accent on a bookcase or a canvas, without lighting the sofa head-on. The hallway spotlights and living room spotlights pages detail these two approaches, while recessed spotlights in a living room ceiling covers the case of a new ceiling.

How to lay out spotlights in the ceiling?

Align the spotlights on an axis parallel to the walls, never in the line of sight when seated, keep a regular spacing from one point to the next and place the key points above the use areas. Adjustable models are set after installation, without taking anything down, which corrects an imperfect layout.

The installation axis matters more than the number

Two rows parallel to the cabinet wall are better than one central row in a kitchen or dressing room. In a hallway, the axis follows the circulation, but the points are offset slightly so they do not fall in the field of view of someone walking. A low ceiling tolerates wider spacing than a high one, since the light carries less far.

Adjust after installation, spotlight by spotlight

On the adjustable models, each point turns independently: you aim at the worktop, then the shelf, then the feature wall, without touching the suspended ceiling. It is this final adjustment that gives the impression of designed lighting rather than a series of round patches. Allow a quarter of an hour with the lights on, in the evening.

How many spotlights in a kitchen?

There is no universal number: allow one point above each work area, sink, hob and prep area, then complete the circulation and the dining corner. Regular spacing matters more than quantity, and a well-aimed adjustable spotlight often replaces two fixed points. Neutral white above the worktops, warm white for meals.

The zone-based approach avoids two classic mistakes: a ceiling crowded with points that light the floor, and a worktop in the shadow of the body. The recessed kitchen spotlights and the all-integrated-LED recessed versions combine without any problem on the same line, since Casambi control is wireless with no control wire.

Recessed or track spotlight: which to choose?

A recessed model sits flush with the ceiling and suits rooms where the fixture should be erased. A track spotlight stays visible, moves along the profile and can be aimed precisely. Both come in several diameters and wattages, all dimmable via Casambi.

Formats, dimensions and wattages in the selection
Format Dimensions Available wattages Colours Protection rating
Mini round recessed H 9.8 cm / Ø 6.5 cm 10.1 to 11.8 W White, silver, gold IP20
Round domed and square recessed H 11.5 to 13.1 cm / Ø 7.5 cm or 7.3 x 7.3 cm 10.1 to 15.6 W White, silver, gold IP20
Double square adjustable H 12.1 to 13.1 cm / W 8.5 x D 15.3 cm 10.1 to 15.6 W White, black, silver IP20
Large and extra-large format H 10 to 14.1 cm / Ø 15.5 to 21 cm 17 to 33.8 W White, silver IP20
Track spotlight H 16 cm / D 23.4 cm, Ø 7.9 or 10.2 cm 18.6 to 27.4 W White, silver, black IP20
Outdoor and bathroom H 10.6 to 12.5 cm / Ø 8.5 to 9 cm 10.1 to 15.6 W White, silver, black IP65

Round, square or double: which format for the ceiling?

Round dominates the selection, ahead of square and tube. Round blends into an existing ceiling without drawing a geometry; square marks a more graphic grid, useful in a contemporary living room or a straight kitchen. The double square, 15.3 cm long, lights two directions from a single recess point: handy above an island. The VIP3 double square adjustable comes in black, white and silver.

Which colour for a white ceiling?

White disappears into a painted ceiling, silver and gold highlight the light point, black states it frankly. On a white ceiling, white finishes or white recessed spotlights on a white ceiling give a clean surface; the black versions suit a concrete ceiling or a visible grid better. The Arrow medium track spotlight plays this contrast card, and the Quo extra-large format, with its 21 cm diameter and 33.8 W, becomes a real architectural point above a table.

How to wire spotlights in series?

Switch off the breaker, identify live and neutral, connect the spotlights on the same lighting circuit, check each connection then restore power. Casambi control removes the control wire between the switch and the fixture, which simplifies a renovation where you do not want to chase walls. If in doubt about the consumer unit, have the wiring checked by an electrician.

This setup suits a whole room: the circuit stays single, each spotlight receives its wireless command and is adjusted individually. You can therefore change the temperature of one point without touching the others, which a conventional switch does not allow. The adjustment is covered in the dimmable recessed spotlights family, which gathers the models where brightness is controlled.

Wireless spotlight with remote control, switch or motion sensor: what are the options?

The spotlights in this selection are controlled wirelessly from the Casambi app, with a built-in dimmer and no control wiring. For a remote-control unit, a wireless two-way switch or a motion sensor, check the spec sheet of the model concerned before ordering: no such accessory is described in the specifications provided.

Wireless spotlight with switch or remote control

The practical gesture is the app: you open it, turn on the room, lower the brightness in the evening, switch back to neutral white for cooking. No extra wire, so no wall to open in an old flat. If dimming is your first concern, the dimmable LED spotlights and the dimmable recessed models gather the same references.

Wireless spotlight with motion sensor

Presence detection is not a feature of this selection: do not assume it for a hallway or an entrance. The right method is to check the spec sheet of the model you want, then, if automation is essential, plan for a separate sensor on the circuit. Wireless control and detection are two distinct functions.

IP20 or IP65: which protection rating for a bathroom or outdoors?

The protection rating indicates where the spotlight can be installed: IP20 for dry rooms such as the kitchen, hallway and living room, IP65 for outdoors or a bathroom exposed to splashes. Two round models in the selection are IP65, Palma and Carpo, both dimmable and controllable via Casambi.

The Palma round IP65 recessed spotlight is in metal and steel, available in white, silver and black, and covers outdoors, terrace, kitchen, hallway, living room and bathroom. The Carpo round IP65 comes in white, 8.5 cm in diameter. To place these two references within a wider range, go to metal spotlights and all lighting families.

How to match spotlights to the style of the room?

Three directions dominate the selection: minimalist, modern and contemporary. Minimalist erases the fixture and lets the light do the work, modern plays with soft shapes such as the round domed version, contemporary embraces the edges of the square. A ceiling heavy with mouldings tolerates a very slim spotlight poorly, a stretched ceiling tolerates too marked an overhang poorly.

For a pared-back interior, look at the modern-style spotlights or the more designer pieces, and for a graphic kitchen, the modern models designed for the kitchen. The white adjustable and black adjustable spotlights let you decide on colour alone. The Turt adjustable spotlight, 12 cm in diameter with 18.6 W, suits a large volume; the Scop small model, wider than it is tall with its 13.5 cm diameter, is used in a tight grid.

Warm white or neutral white: which temperature to choose?

Warm white or neutral white: which temperature to choose
Light temperature Rendering Where to use it Adjustment
Warm white 2700-3500 K Amber light, cosy atmosphere Living room, hallway, dining corner Available across the selection
Neutral white 3500-4500 K Whiter light, materials easy to read Kitchen, worktop, dressing room Available across the selection
Switching from one to the other The spotlight follows the time of day or use Dual-use rooms Via Casambi, built-in dimmer

Both ranges are available across all models, which lets you keep the same fixture from one room to another and change the atmosphere without changing the hardware. In the kitchen, neutral white above the worktops and warm white above the table are enough to separate work and meals. All spotlights are guaranteed for two years.

Ordering from Designix

Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns available and Designix customer service to confirm a diameter, a protection rating or a temperature before ordering. If you are hesitating between two formats, note the available height above the ceiling and the cut-out width: that is what decides it, more than style. The Arrow large track spotlight and the Scop large model remain the safest choices for a large volume; for a hallway, go for a small diameter.

Browse the Designix lighting page to compare families, or go straight to the dimmable recessed LED spotlights, which gather most of the configurations described here.

Frequently asked questions

Can you get a wireless spotlight with a remote control?

The spotlights in this selection are controlled from the Casambi app, with no control wiring, including dimming of brightness and light temperature. No physical unit is described in the product sheets: check the model concerned before ordering if a remote control is essential for you.

Is there a rechargeable wireless spotlight?

A rechargeable spotlight runs on a battery and is installed without a mains connection. The models shown here are mains-powered LEDs controlled wirelessly via Casambi: they do not recharge, but they deliver between 7.2 and 33.8 W depending on the format and stay fixed to the ceiling or track.

How to turn the light on remotely without wires?

The spotlight stays connected to the mains and receives the on command wirelessly, via the Casambi app on the models in this collection. You can switch off, switch on and adjust brightness from a smartphone, with no extra wired switch and no work in the wall.

How to have light without electricity?

An LED spotlight needs a power supply: here, wireless refers to control, not power. Without a power supply, you need to turn to a battery or rechargeable fixture, which offers neither the same output nor the same consistency over time.

Can a wireless spotlight be installed in a bathroom or outdoors?

Yes, if the protection rating is right: IP65 for a bathroom exposed to splashes or a terrace, IP20 in dry rooms. Two round models in the selection are IP65, Palma in metal and steel and Carpo, both controllable via Casambi and dimmable.
