Place the lamp wherever you need it, without running a cable: the rechargeable outdoor table lamps in this selection are wireless and run on battery or solar power, with an integrated LED and IP44 to IP65 protection. Once charged, each one lights up a terrace table, a balcony ledge or a bedside table, then moves with one hand.

What are the options for lighting outdoors without an electrical connection?

Two options dominate for lighting a terrace without a socket: the rechargeable table lamp, which you charge then move around, and the solar model, whose battery recharges in daylight. In this collection, all the lamps are wireless and almost all have an integrated LED; only the Jomara takes an E27 bulb, with IP44 to IP65 protection depending on the model.

Rechargeable outdoor table lamp without an electrical cable: what are we talking about?

A rechargeable table lamp contains an LED, a battery and sometimes a touch control, but no power cable. You charge it once, place it on the table or on the ground, and switch it on. Almost all the models in the range of LED table lamps work this way, with a built-in source and nothing to screw in. Only the Jomara accepts an E27 base, a detail that matters if you want to choose the bulb yourself.

When should you choose a solar model?

Solar takes over when the lamp stays outside during the day and you do not want to think about anything. A small panel recharges the battery in daylight, then you switch it on in the evening. The Solella in bamboo slats and the Cubella illustrate this well, while the Jomara combines solar and an E27 base. To compare with the rest of the catalogue, see all our lighting.

How does a rechargeable wireless outdoor table lamp work?

The lamp contains an LED, a battery and sometimes a small solar panel: no cable connects it to the mains. Once charged, it lights up wherever you put it, on a table or on the ground. Solar models recharge themselves when left outside in the light.

What happens once the lamp is charged

In the evening, you pick the lamp up by the top, place it on the coffee table or straight on the paving, press the button or the touch area and it lights up. Nothing to unplug, nothing to put away: it stays outside if the protection rating allows it. The Rechargea, touch-controlled and rechargeable, is operated with a finger press, so you do not have to hunt for a switch in the dark.

Why LED changes the shape of lamps

An LED gives off little heat and uses little power: the fixture no longer needs a large volume around the bulb. Hence the slim tubes, compact cubes and low domes that fit on a narrow ledge. In terms of power, the models in the collection stay in the region of 1.8 to 2.2 W, which is enough for accent lighting and explains the compact size of the batteries. For more domestic use, the same technology appears in the designer table lamps for the living room and the bedside models for the bedroom.

Which is the best battery lamp for a terrace or balcony?

There is no absolute best battery lamp: it all depends on exposure. An IP65 lamp withstands direct rain, an IP44 one is fine under a canopy. Then check the light temperature, the size and whether there is a dimmer if you want to lower the brightness in the evening.

Which size should you put on a terrace table?

On a terrace table, aim for a lamp the height of a glass of water to a jug, around twenty centimetres: the Rechargea measures 22 x 40 cm, the Tactilis 28 cm high, the Mireva 16 x 25 cm. Beyond that, the lamp hides the faces of your guests. For the floor next to an armchair, a large model such as the Artema with its ribbed oval shade (27.9 x 44.3 cm) holds its place better.

Do you need a dimmer on an outdoor lamp?

A dimmer lets you go from a dinner to a night light without changing lamps. Nearly a third of the models in the collection offer one, on the Rechargea, the Tactilis, the Aritorena, the Soleila or the Beltoreno. For a terrace where you often entertain after nightfall, it is the detail that matters most after the IP rating. Compare the shapes in the modern table lamps.

Models, materials and light: the comparison
Model Material IP Light temperature Size Dimmer Power supply
Artema Plastic and metal IP65 Warm white 2700-3500 K 27.9 x 44.3 cm not specified Rechargeable
Valtorella Metal IP54 Warm white or cool white 25 x 51.3 cm not specified Rechargeable
Rechargea Metal IP44 Warm white 2700-3500 K 22 x 40 cm yes Rechargeable
Tactilis Metal IP44 Warm white 2700-3500 K 28 cm high yes Rechargeable
Aritorena Wood IP54 not specified 22.5 x 32.5 cm yes Rechargeable
Solella Metal, bamboo and wood IP54 not specified 16 x 16 x 36 cm not specified Solar

The Cubella solar cube sums up the compromise well: IP65, three light temperatures and three board sizes (20 x 20, 32 x 32 and 40 x 40 cm) to choose according to the table surface. Find the adjustable models in the adjustable table lamps.

What is the difference between IP44, IP54 and IP65 for an outdoor lamp?

IP44 protects against water splashes, IP54 adds dust, IP65 makes the lamp dust-tight and resistant to water jets. On a covered terrace, IP44 is enough; exposed to rain, choose IP65. None of these lamps should be immersed.

IP44 and IP54: under a canopy or above a table

An IP44 or IP54 lamp is made for a sheltered balcony, a table under a canopy, an open conservatory. It withstands splashes and dust, not direct spraying. This is the case for the Rechargea, the Tactilis, the Soleila, the Aritorena or the Loreia. These models move without problem from a terrace table to a bedside table, as the white models show.

IP65: garden and uncovered terrace

IP65 concerns lamps that stay outside all year round, in the rain and on wet ground: the Cubella, the Jomara and the Artema. They withstand water jets, never immersion. Do not leave them in a puddle or in a garden planter. For a very exposed terrace, this is the rating to remember before any other criterion.

Protection rating: which IP for which exposure?
IP rating What it protects against Where to place the lamp Models in the collection
IP44 Water splashes, not fine dust Covered terrace, under a canopy, sheltered ledge Rechargea, Soleila, Mireva, Tactilis, Sole, Beltoreno
IP54 Dust and water splashes Terrace table, balcony, open conservatory Aritorena, Loreia, Coupola, Valtorella, Ambelina, Ondtorena, Solella
IP65 Dust and water jets Garden, uncovered terrace, poolside Jomara, Cubella, Artema

Which light should you choose for dining outside: warm white or cool white?

Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, gives a light close to candlelight and remains the majority in the collection: it is the one that suits an outdoor dinner, because it lights without harshness. Neutral white and cool white light more sharply, useful for reading or lighting a passageway.

Warm white 2700-3500 K: the evening atmosphere

This range dominates by far, on the Rechargea, the Tactilis, the Soleila, the Mireva, the Artema or the Valtorella. It leans towards amber, does not wash out faces and pairs well with wood, rattan and bamboo. On a terrace table, it is the default choice, without hesitation. The LED lamps for the bedroom share the same tone for the same reason.

Neutral white and cool white: seeing and moving around

Neutral white (3500 to 4500 K) and cool white (4500 to 6500 K) are used to light a passageway, a garden staircase or a worktop. Some models offer all three ranges to choose from: the Jomara, the Cubella and, for two of them, the Valtorella. You then switch from dinner to reading without changing lamps. For a wooden terrace or a warm interior, see the wooden table lamps.

Where to place the lamp and which size to choose: tube, sphere, cube or dome?

The size decides the use: a slim tube slips onto a ledge or a small table, a sphere or a dome takes its place on the floor or on a sideboard, a cube sits on a coffee table. Check the actual dimensions before choosing, especially for a narrow ledge.

Tube, sphere, cube and dome: each size has its place

The tube, like the Ambelina (9.4 cm in diameter for 10 or 20 cm high) or the Sole (11 x 32 cm), sits on a windowsill or between two plates. The sphere and the dome, like the Valtorella (25 x 51.3 cm), go down to the floor, next to an armchair. The cube, with the Cubella and its three sizes, occupies the centre of a coffee table. A woven rope dome like the Coupola (25.5 x 32.5 cm) stays on a sideboard without rolling.

Wood, metal or plastic: style and care

Metal dominates the collection, often in anthracite, white or beige, and is cleaned with a cloth. Wood and bamboo, on the Aritorena, the Loreia or the Solella, bring a warm material that ages well when sheltered. Plastic, on the Jomara, the Beltoreno or the Artema, withstands knocks better and is cleaned with water. In terms of style, the art deco of the Valtorella and the Artema sits alongside the bohemian look of the Aritorena. Continue with the wood versions for the living room, the black selection for the living room or the Scandinavian table lamps. For a desk, look at the metal models for the office and the gold and black finishes.

How do you recharge and care for a wireless outdoor lamp?

These lamps do not connect to the mains: you recharge them, then put them back wherever you like, with no visible cable. A soft cloth is enough for care and you avoid immersion, even with an IP65 rating. So there is no circuit to plan on the terrace.

How do you recharge the lamp?

Two cases. Either the lamp is brought inside to be plugged into a socket, long enough to top up, then goes back outside. Or it is solar and recharges itself when placed in daylight, like the Solella, the Cubella, the Jomara or the Mireva. In both cases, no cable stays stretched across the terrace, which settles the question of connecting several lamps to a single power supply. The rest of the catalogue can be browsed in our lighting universe.

Cleaning without damaging the finish

A soft, slightly damp cloth on metal, plastic or wood. No direct jet on an IP44 lamp, no abrasive product on a beige or gold finish. For a bamboo model, wipe rather than scrub. Store the lamp under cover if you are not using it for a long period. The designer table lamps for the office follow the same rules when they leave the terrace.

Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service: you order the lamp that matches your exposure, and you test it on your table before deciding. Start by checking the IP rating of your terrace, then the light temperature you want.

Frequently asked questions

How do you connect several lamps to a single power supply?

With wireless rechargeable lamps, the question does not arise: none connects to the mains, each one is recharged then put back wherever you like. You can therefore place several on the same table without adding a socket or running a cable across the terrace.

Can a rechargeable outdoor table lamp stay outside in the rain?

It all depends on the rating. IP44 withstands splashes, IP54 adds dust, IP65 withstands water jets. In direct rain, choose IP65, like the Cubella, the Jomara or the Artema. None of these ratings allows immersion: do not leave the lamp in a planter or a puddle.

Can a wireless terrace lamp be used as a bedside lamp?

Yes, many models are intended for outdoor, living room and bedroom use: the Aritorena, the Loreia, the Rechargea or the Tactilis can sit equally well on a bedside table or on a terrace table. The compact size and warm white suit both uses.

Which base should you choose for an outdoor table lamp?

Almost all of these lamps work with an integrated LED: nothing to change, the source is in the fixture. Only one model in the collection accepts an E27 base, the Jomara, which lets you screw in the bulb of your choice, provided it is suitable for outdoor use.

How do you recharge a wireless outdoor table lamp?

Depending on the model, recharging is done by bringing the lamp inside to plug it in, or on its own thanks to the solar panel when the lamp stays outside in the light. The solar versions, such as Solella, Cubella, Mireva or Soleila, therefore need no intervention.
