What is a motion sensor table lamp?
A motion sensor table lamp is a cordless light that switches on when someone walks past and turns itself off afterwards. The models in this collection are solar-powered, made of beige plastic and metal, IP65-rated, lit by warm white 2700 to 3500 K LEDs, and sit on a terrace, in a living room or in a bedroom.
Motion sensor table lamp: what triggers the light
A sensor detects movement within its field and drives the LED with no intervention. The light therefore comes neither from a switch nor from a remote control: it comes because someone steps forward. The housing stays self-contained, with no power cable, which frees up the space on a ledge or a console entirely.
Motion sensor lamps: cordless, solar, IP65
The Artema bedside lamp with ribbed oval shade measures 27.9 × 44.3 cm; the Atrium model with ribbed base measures 27.8 × 40.7 cm. Both share the same specification: plastic and metal, beige, IP65, solar LED. To compare with other formats, browse the Designix lighting catalogue.
What are the drawbacks of a motion sensor?
The sensor triggers the light at the slightest movement, including that of an animal, and the switching can be surprising indoors. A solar lamp also depends on the light it receives during the day to recharge. These table models, with no cable, are easy to move if the detection zone does not suit.
Unnecessary triggers: passers-by, animals, vegetation
A moving branch or a crossing cat is enough to switch it on. Indoors, avoid placing the lamp in line with a busy corridor: aim it towards the wall rather than towards the walkway. If the triggering is a nuisance, simply move the lamp, since no cable holds it in place.
Solar: a recharge that depends on exposure
The panel must capture daylight for detection to work in the evening. A permanently shaded corner, a deep awning or a ledge under a tree reduce the recharge. This is a point to check before choosing the location, not a fault in the light. The designer table lamps for the bedroom also offer wired solutions if the room is dark.
How do you wire a lamp with a motion sensor?
No wiring is needed: these table lamps run on solar power, with no cable or socket. You place them where the panel receives daylight, and detection then handles the switching. It is the simplest solution when there is no power supply on the terrace.
Cordless motion sensor table lamp: set up in two minutes
You take the lamp out of the box, place it on a low wall, a table or a ledge, and wait for a day of sunshine. Nothing to drill, nothing to connect, no switch to wire. When renting, it is the option that leaves no trace when you leave and moves with you from one home to the next.
Wiring several lamps in parallel: the principle to know
For wired lights, parallel wiring means connecting each lamp to the same supply, live and neutral: the switch controls the whole set and one failure does not turn off the others. This principle applies to a conventional electrical installation, not to the solar lamps in this collection, which need no connection at all. See also the designer table lamps for the desk for a workspace without building work.
Which outdoor lamp has a motion sensor?
An outdoor lamp with a motion sensor must withstand the weather: look for the IP65 rating, as on the models in the collection, which protects against dust and water jets. The table format avoids any installation and is used on a terrace, near an entrance or on a balcony.
IP65: what the rating really protects against
The first digit refers to protection against solids, the second against liquids: the 6 keeps out dust, the 5 withstands a low-pressure water jet. That covers rain and cleaning with a damp sponge, not immersion. For a damp room or a very sheltered use, the ceramic table lamps are meant for other atmospheres.
Table or fixed format: what changes in use
A fixed lamp requires holes and a power supply; a table lamp can be moved, stored away in winter and taken along when you move. The compromise is appealing on a terrace where you want to light a specific area without drilling into the facade. The designer wood versions illustrate this approach for indoors.
Where to install a motion sensor table lamp in the home?
These lamps suit outdoors as well as indoors: terrace, entrance, living room or bedside. Outdoors, place them in an open spot exposed to daylight; indoors, they serve as a night light or as extra light in a corridor, a bedroom or near a sofa.
On the terrace and near the entrance
Place the lamp high on a low wall to widen the detection field and keep the walkway clear. Near a door, it lights the steps on arrival without staying on all night. To complete the set, all our lighting families can be browsed by room and by style.
In the living room, bedroom and on a desk
Indoors, detection is mainly used as a night light: a corridor at night, a bedside table to get up without searching for the switch. For decoration, the designer table lamps for the living room and the bedside models for the bedroom complete the setup on a console or a bedside table.
| Room | What you expect from the light | Decisive criterion | Model in the collection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terrace and entrance | Light when someone passes, with no cable to run | IP65 rating and solar power | Artema or Atrium |
| Living room | A warm extra light in the evening | Warm white 2700-3500 K and a low silhouette | Artema, ribbed oval shade |
| Bedroom and bedside | A discreet night light, with no socket nearby | Table format and LED source | Atrium, ribbed base |
| Corridor and stairs | Light that switches on as you approach | Motion detection and free placement | Artema |
How do you choose a designer table lamp for the living room?
For a living room, look first at the silhouette: here a ribbed oval shade and a ribbed base, in an Art Deco spirit, in beige. The round shape and the light colour suit modern interiors as well as more classic styles. The dimensions, around 41 to 44 cm high, fit on a console or a side table.
Designer globe table lamp and rounded silhouettes
A round shape softens a corner of a room and takes up less visual space than a square shade. The beige colour stays neutral next to a grey sofa, a white wall or an oak piece of furniture. On a narrow console, check the footprint: 27.8 or 27.9 cm in diameter fits anywhere.
Italian design, Art Deco and floor lamps: composing without overloading
The Art Deco style is recognisable by the regular ribs of the shade and the stem, a graphic design that replaces a printed pattern. If you are looking for a similar design, compare with the modern table lamps for the living room and the Scandinavian style selection. A single low lamp is enough on a console: beyond that, add a floor lamp rather than a second lamp of the same height.
What light does a warm white LED table lamp give?
Warm white 2700 to 3500 K gives a slightly golden light, close to that of an incandescent bulb, suited to the living room and the bedroom. It rests the eyes in the evening and brings out the beige and metal materials. As the source is LED, there is no bulb to choose.
Warm white 2700-3500 K: the effect in a living room
Below 3000 K, the light leans towards amber and suits rooms for relaxing; above 4000 K, it becomes whiter and more stimulating. A warm white brings out the relief of a ribbed shade and avoids the flat effect of lighting that is too cold. For a corridor or a staircase, the same tone remains comfortable.
LED and LED base: what to know before buying
An LED base means the module is integrated: no socket to screw in, no separate replacement, the lamp works as it is. That is what makes it possible to keep a compact format while maintaining even light. For other housing colours, see the LED table lamps for the bedroom and an LED extra light for the desk.
| Model | Stated dimensions | Material | Colour | Protection rating | Technology | Light temperature | Rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Artema, ribbed oval shade | 27.9 × 44.3 cm | Plastic and metal | Beige | IP65 | LED, solar | Warm white 2700-3500 K | Outdoor, terrace, living room, bedroom |
| Atrium, ribbed base | 27.8 × 40.7 cm | Plastic and metal | Beige | IP65 | LED, solar | Warm white 2700-3500 K | Outdoor, terrace, living room, bedroom |
How do you care for an IP65 solar table lamp?
A soft cloth is enough on the plastic and metal; avoid abrasive products on the ribbed shade. Outdoors, keep the solar panel clean, as a film of dust or leaves reduces the recharge. The IP65 rating allows cleaning with a damp sponge.
Cleaning plastic, metal and the ribbed shade
Dust dry first so as not to scratch the beige, then wipe with a slightly damp sponge. The ribs of the shade hold dust in their grooves: a soft brush or a microfibre cloth reaches them better than a product. Dry before putting the lamp back, as standing water brings nothing.
Keeping the solar panel efficient all year round
Wipe the surface of the panel when it looks dull, and move the lamp if vegetation has grown in front of it. In winter, a lower exposure is often still enough, but a persistent shaded corner shows up quickly through the lack of light. To vary the light materials, look at the other light colours.
Reassurance and ordering
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and the Designix customer service surround every order. Unsure about the height available on your console? Check the 44.3 cm of the Artema and the 40.7 cm of the Atrium before confirming, then choose the lamp that matches your room and your use.
Which LED bulb is compatible with a motion sensor?
No bulb to plan for here: the models in the collection have an integrated LED source in an LED base and deliver a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K. Compatibility with detection is set at the factory, so there is no bulb to choose and no risk of incorrect fitting.
How do you wire several lamps to a single power supply?
Several lights are connected in parallel to the same supply: each lamp receives live and neutral, which allows several to be controlled with a single switch and keeps the others on if one fails. The solar lamps in this collection, however, require no connection at all.
What is the most efficient outdoor lighting?
The most efficient is the lighting that switches on only when needed: a motion sensor lamp avoids lighting an empty terrace all night. Add IP65 protection to withstand the weather and solar power to eliminate cables and mains consumption.
How should ceiling spots be arranged when adding a table lamp?
Align the spots with the areas to be lit, the entrance or the worktop, and keep the table lamp for atmosphere, near a sofa or a console. Two sources that add up in the same place create double shadows: it is better to spread them around the room and switch them on separately.
Does a cordless motion sensor table lamp work at night?
Yes: the solar panel recharges the lamp during the day and the light triggers on movement, including in the dark. As it does not depend on any socket, it stays operational during a power cut and moves from one room to another as needed.
Can a motion sensor lamp be installed in a rental, without building work?
Yes, since there is no drilling or connection: the lamp sits on a table, a window ledge or a low terrace wall. The bedside format, in beige plastic and metal, is easy to carry from one home to another and leaves no trace when you leave.
