Place the lamp on the bedside table by the window with the panel facing the daylight: the battery recharges and the light comes on in the evening without a plug. The choice then comes down to three concrete criteria: the protection rating, the light temperature and the socket, integrated LED or E27 fitting.

What is a solar bedside table lamp?

A solar bedside table lamp is self-contained: a photovoltaic panel recharges a battery during the day and the light takes over in the evening, with no cable or plug. Two families coexist in this selection: models with integrated LED and E27 sockets, where you screw in the bulb of your choice, most often in warm white.

The panel, the battery and the socket

The panel captures daylight, the battery stores it, the switch releases it. The integrated LED fixes the colour and the power; the E27 socket lets you choose the bulb, as on Nertoraro, and changes the result without changing the lamp. LED models dominate here, to be found among the LED models for the bedroom.

A pendant version above the bedside

None of the models in this selection is a pendant: they are all table lamps. A solar pendant would mean fixing the panel somewhere other than on the luminaire, in a genuinely lit spot. For a bedside, the table format remains the simplest, and the table lamps designed for the bedroom cover that need.

Where to place a solar bedside table lamp so it recharges?

The panel must see daylight: place the lamp near a window, on a clear bedside table, and point the cell towards the light. An IP65 model can live outdoors, on a terrace table, provided it does not stay in permanent shade that would deprive the battery of its recharge.

On a bedside table, a stack of books or a lampshade placed in front of the cell is enough to cancel the recharge. The windowsill or a shelf near the glass gives better results than a dark corner, even just a few dozen centimetres away. The Jomara cube, IP65 water-resistant, handles the terrace table without fearing splashes.

Against a north wall or under an awning, move the lamp rather than let it go out. The rest of the lighting catalogue follows the same placement logic, and the black metal bedside lamps stand out quickly on a light-coloured bedside table.

Which protection to choose between IP20, IP44, IP54 and IP65?

IP20 suits a dry bedroom, IP44 a sheltered outdoor spot, IP54 a terrace and IP65 locations exposed to dust and water splashes. Here, most models are IP65, Soleila and Mireva are IP44, Solella is IP54 and Nertoraro is IP20.

Which protection rating for which room
IP rating Where to install it Models concerned What it implies
IP20 Bedroom, living room, sheltered bedside table Nertoraro Protected against solid objects, not water
IP44 Covered terrace, conservatory, sheltered outdoor Soleila, Mireva Resists splashes, keep out of direct rain
IP54 Terrace, open window edge Solella Limited dust and water splashes
IP65 Garden, exposed terrace, damp room Jomara, Novtoreta, Cubella, Atrium, Artema Dust-tight and resistant to water jets

IP65: what it covers outdoors

The IP65 rating indicates a lamp protected against dust and water jets. That covers rain and splashes on a terrace, not immersion or high-pressure spraying. Clean with a damp cloth, never with a jet.

IP20 and IP44: the limits to know

IP20 protects against solid contact, not water: keep it for dry interiors. IP44 withstands splashes, which is enough under an awning or in a conservatory, but not in pouring rain. A poorly placed model shows signs of weakness regardless of the battery condition.

Warm white or cool white for a bedside lamp?

Warm white 2700-3500 K gives an amber light that relaxes in the evening; neutral white 3500-4500 K and cool white 4500-6500 K make colours sharper and are used for work or visibility. Nertoraro, Jomara, Novtoreta and Cubella offer several temperatures, the others stay in warm white.

A light for reading in bed without glare

For reading, aim for a low warm white, with the shade pointed towards the page and not towards the pillow. An E27 socket lets you correct the result by changing the bulb, without buying a new lamp. The design LED selection shows both approaches side by side.

Several temperatures on the same lamp

Switching from warm white to cool white on the same model serves two different moments: ambience in the evening, clear visibility or work during the day. This flexibility applies to Jomara, Novtoreta, Cubella and Nertoraro. For a textile finish, compare with the linen lampshades, which soften the light.

Italian design, original or mushroom bedside lamp: which style to choose?

These three terms refer to style families, not to models present here: the selection is divided between contemporary (Novtoreta, Soleila, Mireva, Cubella) and Art Deco (Atrium, Artema). No mushroom-shaped lamp or signed Italian piece appears here, but the conical or ribbed volumes come close.

Contemporary or Art Deco: two characters

Contemporary plays clean lines, the cube, the cone, the openwork shade. Art Deco works the ribbed base and the ovoid shade, on taller formats, around 40 cm. Atrium and its ribbed base illustrates the second camp, Soleila and its openwork shade the first.

Original without being gimmicky

A piece stands out for its material or its design, not for a garish detail. The openwork shade, the ribbed base or the white cube break away from usual shapes. For an already busy interior, prefer a simple line seen in the modern pieces for a living room, or a more sober design from the Scandinavian style range.

How to connect several lamps to a single electrical supply?

Several lamps are connected in parallel on the same supply: each socket branches off the common line, which avoids multiplying circuits. With a solar bedside table lamp, the question does not arise: the panel recharges the battery and the lamp is used without any connection to the mains.

Branching means tapping the supply line towards each point, rather than running a new cable from the consumer unit. On a solar lamp, the circuit stops at the battery: nothing to run, nothing to tap, which solves the case of a bedside far from any socket. Adjustable lamps complement this type of placement well when a specific area needs to be targeted.

What are the drawbacks of solar lamps?

A solar lamp depends on available daylight: less light in winter, a battery that loses capacity over the years and a panel that must be oriented. Its lighting power remains moderate, suited to reading or ambience, and the absence of a plug becomes an asset as soon as you light a terrace.

Count on supplementary brightness, not a ceiling light: to light a whole room, a solar lamp does not replace a mains source. In winter, recharging drops with the short days, and an old battery holds less long. In return, no cable to run, no switch to wire, and a lamp that moves from the bedroom to the terrace. For a fixed workstation, look instead at the models for a desk.

Driftwood, wood or metal bedside lamp: which material to choose?

Driftwood, a reclaimed material, does not appear in this collection: you will find plastic, metal, bamboo and wood, alone or combined. Solella mixes metal, bamboo and wood, Soleila is all metal, Atrium and Artema combine plastic and metal, the rest is plastic.

Formats, materials and sockets of the models
Model Material Format or dimensions Socket IP
Nertoraro Plastic Small and large format, star shape E27 IP20
Solella Metal, bamboo, wood 16 x 16 x 36 cm LED IP54
Jomara Plastic Cube E27 IP65
Novtoreta Plastic 19 x 30 cm, conical LED IP65
Soleila Metal 10 x 30 cm LED IP44
Cubella Plastic Squares of 20, 32 and 40 cm LED IP65

Bamboo and wood: the warm finish

Solella and its bamboo slat shade filters the light and projects a pattern on the wall, for a bedside that stays warm without direct glare. Wood and bamboo dislike stagnant moisture: dry the lamp after rain. Other options exist in the wood range.

Metal and plastic: care and weight

Powder-coated metal wipes clean with a cloth and withstands splashes, provided you avoid abrasive products. Plastic stays light, so easy to move from one room to another, and only needs simple cleaning. For a narrow bedside table, a small metal format holds better than a wide base. Bedside ceramics offer a third character, more matte.

How to care for a solar bedside table lamp and make it last?

A soft cloth is enough on the panel and the shade; avoid abrasive products on metal and bamboo. For models with an E27 socket, the bulb can be replaced without dismantling the lamp. In winter, bring outdoor models inside or let them catch the light rather than storing them discharged.

A dusty panel recharges less: a month without cleaning shows in the evening autonomy. For an E27 lamp, check the socket after changing a bulb, without forcing. Storing in a dark box with an empty battery damages charge retention; prefer storage in indirect light. Find the rest of the references in the lighting catalogue and the light-coloured models in the white design table lamps.

Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service: you can compare models at your own pace, Cubella and its three square formats like the taller pieces of Atrium are chosen above all on dimensions.

Frequently asked questions

What are the most beautiful living room lamps?

Beauty depends on the room: a lamp is chosen for its format, its colour and the light it gives. Placed on a console, Atrium and Artema bring a sculptural presence, while a white Cubella stays discreet in a sober interior. Compare the actual dimensions before deciding.

How to arrange ceiling spotlights?

Align the spotlights on the areas to be lit rather than in the centre of the room, avoiding placing them just above a seat where they cause glare. Several distributed sources are better than a single strong point. For a bedside, a solar table lamp precisely avoids running an extra line.

Mushroom bedside lamp: is there a solar model?

No mushroom-shaped lamp appears in this selection, that profile belonging to 1970s shapes. For a similar spirit, look instead at the ovoid shades and ribbed bases of Artema and Atrium, or the white cube of Cubella.

Does a solar bedside table lamp give enough light to read?

It depends on the model and the battery condition: a solar lamp gives supplementary light, enough to read at short distance when the recharge is complete. Models with an E27 socket accept the bulb you screw in, which lets you adjust the result.

Can a solar bedside table lamp be left outside all year?

Yes for IP65 models, which resist dust and water splashes: Jomara, Novtoreta, Cubella, Atrium and Artema fall into this category. An IP44 such as Soleila or Mireva stays sheltered. Clean the panel regularly to keep recharging efficient.

Our advice for choosing
Les lampes à poser solaires de chevet se posent sur une table de nuit ou une terrasse sans prise : le panneau recharge la batterie le jour, la LED ou le culot E27 éclaire le soir. Formats compacts, blanc chaud 2700-3500 K, indices IP20 à IP65.
