What is an industrial spotlight and what light does it give?
An industrial spotlight throws light towards a precise point rather than across the whole room. In this selection, the structure is mainly metal, often paired with wood, with an E27 base on the vast majority of models and an IP20 rating: it goes in dry rooms, living room, kitchen or hallway, and its beam is adjusted by hand.
Ceiling industrial spotlight: what sets it apart from a pendant
A pendant drops into the room and lights broadly from a low point. A ceiling industrial spotlight projects from the ceiling surface itself, which keeps the view clear and suits low ceilings. The Pivotant Nomia and Gearwood ceiling lights stay close to the ceiling, while the Cinéa pendant drops like a cinema projector. The black industrial chandelier, with its clean lines and matt finish, fits just as well in a living room as in a hallway.
The light of an industrial spotlight: a beam to direct
The result depends on the shape and the material: globe for a wrapping light, tube for a crisp line, square or round depending on the ceiling. The black metal and glass of the Nocta vintage industrial spotlight give a contrasting beam, to aim at a wall. The adjustable models are set with a fingertip, no tools, once screwed in.
Ceiling or wall industrial spotlight: which mounting should you choose?
Ceiling mounting lights from above and suits walkways as well as living rooms. Wall mounting places the source closer to the surface to be lit, useful above a worktop or in a hallway. The cable spotlight drops the light without drilling the ceiling, with a cable to adjust.
Wall industrial spotlight: above which surface should you install it?
The Velma wall spotlight (ø 13 cm, H 22 cm, black or silver) is fixed as a wall light above a worktop, a sink or a hallway, and throws the light down onto the surface instead of spreading it behind you. Allow a wall light height that lets your hand pass under the beam, around 40 to 60 cm above the surface depending on the room.
Cable spotlight: when you do not drill the ceiling
The Ferro cable spotlight (ø 13 cm, H 22 cm, silver, E27 base) hangs above an island or along a hallway, with a cable length to adjust at the time of installation. This is the solution when the slab is hard to drill or the power point is badly placed. For an overview of the fixings, browse the spotlight collection.
Black, white or silver industrial spotlight: which colour should you choose?
Black blends into beams, metal structures and dark walls. White disappears on a pale ceiling and visually lightens the room. Silver matches stainless steel kitchens and workshops. In this selection, black dominates, followed by white and silver, with a few pieces in grey, anthracite or beige.
Black industrial spotlight: where it goes unnoticed
On exposed beams, a dark wall or a wooden ceiling, a black finish reads as a structural part and not as an added fixture. The Novéa globe spotlight (H 23 cm, anthracite, black or beige) plays this role above a worktop or a dressing room. Other black finishes follow the same logic in the hallway and the entrance.
Light finishes: when to choose white or grey
On a ceiling painted white, a pale spotlight is barely noticeable: it is the usual choice for the living room and the office. The Michelle adjustable ceiling light (H 18 cm, GU10 base) and the Pivotant Nomia ceiling light belong to this family. The white versions also suit the pale walls of a bedroom.
How do you arrange ceiling spotlights in a living room?
Spread the points by dividing the length of the room by the number of spotlights you want, then keep the same margin at both ends. Avoid placing a point right above a seat or behind you: aim the beam at the walls and the furniture you want to highlight instead.
How to arrange ceiling spotlights
First draw the room on the floor with markers, then transfer the points to the ceiling in regular lines or staggered rows depending on the shape of the space. This step avoids unnecessary drilling. Check that no point falls behind a beam or in line with a door. An adjustable model then makes up for a gap of a few centimetres.
Ceiling spotlight layout in a living room: mistakes to avoid
A point placed in line with the sofa casts a shadow on the book or the screen. Irregular spacing shows on the ceiling even when the light is off. Finally, too few points leave dark areas between them: fewer well-aimed sources are better than tightly packed points. The LED spotlights for the living room cover this type of layout.
Which industrial spotlight for the kitchen, hallway or dressing room?
In the kitchen, aim for a wall or adjustable spotlight above the worktop to avoid the shadow of your hands. In a hallway, regular ceiling or cable points mark the way. In a dressing room or an entrance, aim the light at the clothes or at the floor.
| Room | What matters | Mounting type | Model in the selection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Avoid a point in line with the seat, aim at the walls | Adjustable ceiling or pendant | Gearwood, Ballia, Cinéa |
| Kitchen | Light the worktop without glare | Wall or ceiling near the worktop | Velma, Novéa, Kalo |
| Hallway | Mark the way at regular intervals | Ceiling or cable | Ferro, Novéa |
| Entrance | One point aimed at the floor or a mirror | Wall | Velma |
| Dressing room | Aim the light at the clothes | Adjustable ceiling | Pivotant Nomia |
| Office | Avoid reflection on the screen | Adjustable GU10 ceiling | Michelle |
Kitchen spotlight: above the worktop
Kitchen lighting calls for a close, directed source. The Kalo glass kitchen spotlight (12 cm, E14 base, black) lights a small space or a narrow worktop. The Ballia adjustable ceiling light (H 17 cm, grey) suits a kitchen open to the living room.
Hallway, entrance and dressing room: mark and direct
In a hallway, two or three points are enough to mark the way without glare. A dressing room is handled with an adjustable point aimed at the wardrobe. If you prefer to add light without drilling, look at spotlight rails, an alternative to direct fixing.
Which base and which bulb for an industrial spotlight?
Most models in this selection have an E27 base, the most common screw format and compatible with most bulbs on the market. Two exceptions: a model with a small screw E14 base and a GU10 ceiling light, whose bulb clips straight into the socket.
| Base | Compatible bulb | Models concerned | Protection rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| E27 | Classic screw bulb, the most widespread format in the selection | Ferro, Velma, Novéa, Ballia, Gearwood, Cinéa, Nocta | IP20 |
| E14 | Small screw bulb, small spaces | Kalo glass kitchen spotlight | IP20 |
| GU10 | Pin bulb, recessed socket, 10 W stated | Michelle ceiling light | IP20 |
LED industrial spotlight: what happens in the bulb
The fixture carries the socket and the direction, not the quality of light: the result is decided when you screw in the bulb. An LED bulb with an E27 or GU10 base replaces a classic bulb without changing the fixture. The LED spotlights in the range follow this logic, and the GU10 spotlights gather the pin-base references.
Light temperature: warm white or neutral white
A light around 2700 to 3000 K gives a warm tone, close to a filament bulb, suited to the living room and the bedroom. Between 3500 and 4000 K, the result becomes more neutral and suits a worktop. Some references in the selection are stated as warm white 2700 to 3500 K, others are supplied without a bulb: your choice sets the tone.
How do you match an industrial spotlight with a chandelier or a pendant?
A spotlight frames, a chandelier or a pendant occupies the centre. Keep a single dominant light point above the table or the living room, and reserve the spotlights for the walls, the walkways and the work areas. The two go well together in black metal and wood.
Large industrial chandelier and spotlights: which dominates the room
A large industrial chandelier above a large table takes centre stage and structures the space: the spotlights then play a supporting role, aimed at the walls and the furniture. Two sources of the same power on the same axis compete visually. To build the centrepiece, compare all our light fixtures before settling the ceiling layout.
Industrial kitchen chandelier: light the table without glare
Above a kitchen table or a worktop, an industrial kitchen chandelier drops the light and lets the spotlights light the rest. The principle of a homemade pendant comes down to a socket, a textile cable and a fixing, plus a metal or glass shade: the technical point not to overlook remains the identification of the wires and the earth. Modern spotlights complete the set.
How do you install and care for an industrial spotlight?
Switch off the circuit before any work, fix the mounting plate to the intended support, then connect respecting the wire markings. The direction is then adjusted by hand, on the ball joint or the tilt. Dust the structure and the glass, where there is any, with a soft cloth and no abrasive product.
Industrial spotlight: height and direction when adjusting
Once installed, each model is adjusted differently: the Pivotant Nomia and the Gearwood tilt close to the ceiling, the Michelle is aimed at a worktop, the Cinéa hangs and is directed from its cable. Set the direction first, then tighten. The whole selection is IP20: for a damp room, turn to solutions for damp rooms, and for outdoors to specific references.
Caring for a metal, wood or glass spotlight
Metal is dusted dry, wood takes a barely damp cloth, glass is cleaned without an abrasive product. Check the screws are tight once a year. The selection is covered by a 2-year warranty.
To equip a living room or a hallway, start with an adjustable ceiling model and a wall light near the surface to be lit. Discover the recessed LED spotlight if you prefer a flush mounting, or the dimmable spotlights to adjust the light in the evening. Browse our light fixture catalogue and choose the finish that holds the room.
Frequently asked questions
What is a spotlight?
A spotlight is a light fixture that concentrates light in one direction instead of spreading it. It is fixed to the ceiling, the wall, a rail or a cable, and its beam is directed by hand. In this selection, all models are rated IP20.
What are the different types of spotlights?
There are ceiling spotlights, wall spotlights, cable or rail spotlights, and recessed spotlights. This collection mainly brings together models for ceiling or wall mounting, in metal and wood, with an E27, E14 or GU10 base depending on the reference.
How do you arrange ceiling spotlights?
First draw the room on the floor, then place the points in regular lines or staggered rows depending on the shape of the ceiling. Keep a constant margin from the walls and space the points far enough apart to avoid dark areas. Aim each spotlight at a wall or a piece of furniture.
What distance should you allow between ceiling spotlights?
There is no single distance: it depends on the length of the room and the number of points you want. The reliable method is to divide the length by the number of spotlights, then spread the points at equal intervals keeping the same margin at both ends.
How do you build an industrial pendant light?
The principle comes down to three parts: an E27 socket, a textile cable and a fixing, plus a metal or glass shade. The technical point not to overlook remains the identification of the wires and the earth. This collection already offers assembled models, such as the Ferro cable spotlight.
