Check the base printed on the socket, then stick to a moderate wattage and a warm white: in a bedroom, these two choices matter more than the shape of the bulb. This selection brings together LED bedroom light bulbs in E27, E14, G9, GU10, GX53 and G4 bases, all IP20, mostly in warm white 2700 - 3500 K.

What wattage bulb for a bedroom?

Allow 5 to 8 W for the main lighting of a bedroom, and keep higher wattages for a ceiling light that has to reach far. In this selection, the wattages range from 2.9 W to 12 W, all LED technology.

Bedroom light bulbs: how many watts?

At the bedside, 4.5 to 7 W is enough to read without flooding the room. 7 W comes up most often, in E27 as well as G9, with some references going down to 2.9 W or 3 W for a night light or a wall light. 12 W is meant more for adjustable GU10 spots and large rooms, where the light has to cover a wider area. In general, a bedroom does without high wattage: two modest sources are better than one very powerful one.

Which base for a bedside lamp?

The socket dictates everything: a wide-socket lamp takes an E27, a compact model an E14 or a G9. Among our E27 base bulbs, the E27 3000 K 7 W bulb covers the usual case of bedside and ceiling light alike. If the socket is slim, the G9 4.5 W bulb comes in warm white and neutral white, with a height of 5.8 cm, which fits most compact fixtures. For very small sockets, see the G9 and G4 bulbs.

Is 4000 K white or yellow?

4000 K is neither frankly yellow nor blue: it is a neutral white, crisper than warm white 2700 - 3000 K and softer than cool white above 4500 K. Some of the bulbs in this collection offer this neutral white, the rest stay in warm white.

Warm white, neutral white, cool white: what effect?

Warm white leans towards amber and recalls the filament bulb. Neutral white keeps a white tone with no dominant hue. Cool white, very crisp, appears only on a small part of the models, mostly in G9 and G4. In a bedroom, these shades are most noticeable in the evening, when the room is dark around the source.

Available light temperatures
Temperature Effect Use in a bedroom
Warm white 2700 - 3500 K warm light, close to the filament bulb general lighting, bedside, evening
Neutral white 3500 - 4500 K crisp white, no yellow dominant reading, dressing table, worktop
Cool white 4500 - 6500 K very crisp white on a part of the models only

Which colour temperature for reading in bed?

Around 3000 K, reading in bed stays comfortable without straining the eyes. Neutral white 4000 K suits a dressing table or a desk corner better, where details are easier to make out. 2700 K bulbs give the softest shade in the selection; 3000 K bulbs add a little clarity without turning to crisp white.

Which light colour for a bedroom or living room?

For a bedroom as for a living room, warm white 2700 - 3000 K stays the most comfortable in the evening, and neutral white 3500 - 4000 K takes over as soon as you read or work. Both temperatures are available here, often on the same base, which leaves the choice room by room.

Which light for a bedroom in the evening?

A discreet general source on the ceiling and a close light at the bedside: that is the scheme that works. You lower the intensity rather than change the shade, which explains the point of a dimmable bulb near the bed. For rooms where you entertain, living room bulbs follow the same temperature guidelines.

Can you keep the same bulb in the living room and the bedroom?

Yes: 3000 K works for both uses, provided the base matches both fixtures. For a worktop, a modern kitchen decor goes well with a neutral white, which you find in kitchen bulbs. And if you also equip a work corner, office lighting follows the same neutral white logic.

Which base to choose: E27, E14, G9, GU10, GX53 or G4?

The base comes before wattage and colour: a perfect bulb is useless in a socket that will not take it. This selection covers E27, E14, G9, GU10, GX53 and G4, all IP20, so for dry indoor use.

Bases in the collection and bedroom uses
Base Fixtures concerned Wattages found Available temperatures
E27 ceiling lights, chandeliers, wide-socket bedside lamps 5 W to 7.5 W warm white, neutral white
E14 small sockets, compact bedside lamps 7.5 W warm white, neutral white
G9 compact ceiling lights, slim sockets 2.9 W to 4.5 W warm white, neutral white, cool white
GU10 adjustable and recessed spots 7 W to 12 W warm white, neutral white
GX53 flat fixtures and slim ceiling lights 7 W and 7.5 W warm white, neutral white

How to recognise the base of your fixture?

The E27 screws in and measures about 27 mm in diameter, the E14 also screws in but smaller. The G9 pins onto two slim rods, the G4 onto two even shorter pins, reserved for low-voltage fixtures. The GX53 clips in with a quarter turn on flat fixtures, and the GU10 pushes into a bayonet socket, as on GU10 spots.

Small E14 or G9 base: for which fixtures?

The E14 fits compact bedside lamps, with a height of 8.9 cm on the model in the selection. The G9 appears in small ceiling lights and wall lights, with only 5 cm of height. A screw socket will never take a pin base: compare before ordering, including in E14 bulbs.

How to choose the lighting for an adult bedroom?

Combine two sources: a ceiling light or chandelier for general light, a bedside lamp for reading, both in warm white. This layering avoids turning the ceiling up high in the evening, and leaves a low light when one of the occupants is still reading.

Which lighting for a baby's room?

A low wattage and a warm white, with no source aimed straight at the bed. A small G9 bulb or a 7.5 W E14 placed high is enough for nappy changes and night wakings. The warranties stated on the models in this selection are 2 years or 5 years depending on the reference, with no indication of lifespan beyond that.

Which fixture for a child's room?

A diffusing ceiling light, with no bare bulb above the bed, works better than an adjustable spot. Filament bulbs bring a soft light and a decorative effect when the bulb stays visible, like the E27 Éclat Doré filament bulb in glass and metal. Stay on warm white in both cases.

Bedroom ceiling light and chandelier: which bulb goes inside?

The socket of the fixture dictates the base, often E27 or E14 on a chandelier, G9 on a compact ceiling light and GX53 on a flat model. If the bulb stays visible, its shape and material matter as much as its light; behind a diffuser, only the base, wattage and colour show.

Visible bulb or hidden bulb?

On a chandelier without a diffuser, the bulb is seen: a ball or globe shape in glass plays the decorative role, and glass bulbs cover this case with clear, smoked or gold finishes. Behind a ceiling light diffuser, a plain bulb does the same job with less bulk.

Ball, globe or tube bulb: what effect?

The ball gives a round volume, the globe diffuses more widely, the tube lengthens the silhouette in a linear fixture. The Spirala, with its smoked glass globe shape and visible filament, plays the decorative card: the Spirala in smoked glass fits an E27 and measures 9.5 cm in diameter. Retro bulbs follow the same search for style.

Can you install a dimmable bulb in a bedroom?

Yes, provided you choose a model stated as compatible: only some of the bulbs in this collection are. On a dimmer switch, a bulb not designed for it may buzz, flicker or switch off badly. A dimmer stays handy at the bedside to lower the light without changing the bulb.

How to know if a bulb accepts a dimmer?

The information appears on the product page, never on the socket or the switch. Dimmer-compatible bulbs have to be checked one by one before buying. An older fixture with a phase-cut dimmer generally needs this type of model, and testing on site avoids a return.

Bulb buzzing: what to check?

The noise often comes from the bulb and dimmer pairing, not from the bulb alone. First check the stated compatibility, then the minimum wattage required by the dimmer. If the buzzing persists, test the bulb on a simple switch: if the noise disappears, the dimmer is the cause.

How to install and maintain a bedroom LED bulb?

Cut the power at the breaker, let the old bulb cool, check the base then screw or pin it without forcing. All the bulbs in this selection are LED and IP20: they are meant for dry indoor use, never for a damp room.

Can you replace a bulb with a more powerful model?

Only if the socket and the fixture allow it: a closed ceiling light heats up more with a stronger bulb. In a bedroom, going up in wattage rarely brings anything, whereas adding more light points really changes comfort. If in doubt, keep the original wattage.

Why does an LED bulb flicker?

Flickering most often comes from an incompatible dimmer, a loose socket or a fixture with old electronics. Screwing the bulb back in sometimes solves the problem. If not, test it in another socket before replacing it. A dry clean, with the power off, is enough for routine care.

Payment is secure, delivery is tracked and returns are possible; the Designix customer service answers base questions before ordering. To equip several rooms at once, browse all our LED bulbs. Frequently asked questions about bedroom light bulbs

What wattage bulb for a bedroom?

For a bedroom, a 5 to 8 W LED bulb is more than enough, at the bedside as on the ceiling. In this selection, the wattages range from 2.9 W to 12 W: the most powerful models, like the GU10 12 W, are meant more for rooms that need more light.

Is 4000 K white or yellow?

4000 K corresponds to a neutral white: neither yellow like warm white 2700 - 3000 K, nor bluish like cool white above 4500 K. This selection offers warm white 2700 - 3500 K and neutral white 3500 - 4500 K depending on the model.

Which chandelier for an adult bedroom?

A bedroom chandelier is chosen first by its base and its wattage per socket: this selection covers E27, E14, G9 and G4, all IP20. For an adult bedroom, warm white bulbs are preferred, possibly visible if the chandelier has no diffuser.

Bedroom ceiling light: which bulb goes inside?

First look at the socket: E27 and E14 for large sockets, G9 for slim sockets, GX53 for flat fixtures. Then the wattage, from 2.9 W to 7.5 W on the G9 and GX53 models in this selection, and the colour, in warm white.

Can you install a dimmable bulb in a bedroom?

Yes, provided you choose a model stated as dimmer-compatible: only some of the bulbs in this collection are. A dimmer proves handy for lowering the light in the evening without changing the bulb. This information has to be checked model by model before buying.
