Start with the light temperature for the room, then the lumen output, then the shape depending on whether the bulb stays visible or not. Every reference in this selection is LED, with an E27 base, an IP20 rating and a warm white of 2700 to 3500K, with one model also covering neutral white.

Which E27 LED bulb should you choose for each room?

In this selection, every bulb has an E27 base and a warm white 2700-3500K, the shade that suits the living room, the bedroom and the dining room. You then choose the wattage and the shape according to the fixture: a visible bulb in a chandelier, a discreet bulb in a ceiling light or a wall light.

Warm white E27 LED bulbs for the living room

In the living room, light is used as much for reading as for hosting. In a flat ceiling light, the bulb disappears; in a table lamp, it stays partly visible. The living room bulbs cover these uses. Format matters more than wattage: a globe 4 to 6 cm in diameter fits most fixtures. Before the bulb, it is better to choose the fixture.

Bedroom and dining room: which light without glare?

In the bedroom, a moderate output is enough: you light for reading and getting ready, not for working. In the dining room, the bulb is almost always visible in a pendant or a chandelier. A filament version or a glass one makes perfect sense there. For the bedroom, the bulbs designed for the room stay in warm white and are often used on a dimmer.

Kitchen, bathroom, outdoor: the separate uses

In the kitchen, the worktop calls for output before wattage. In the bathroom, IP20 means protecting the bulb from water splashes, even behind a diffuser. Outside, an outdoor bulb must never stay exposed: it goes under an awning or inside a closed lantern. All E27 base bulbs screw in the same way, it is the fixture that changes.

Which E27 bulb for each room and fixture
Room Most common fixture Temperature to favour Point to check
Living room Ceiling light, chandelier, table lamp Warm white 2700-3500K Bulb visible or not, format
Dining room Pendant, chandelier Warm white 2700-3500K Visible bulb: filament, glass
Bedroom Ceiling light, bedside lamp Warm white 2700-3500K Moderate output, dimmer compatibility
Kitchen Ceiling light, strip light Warm white or neutral white Stated light output
Bathroom Ceiling light or sheltered wall light Warm white 2700-3500K IP20: no water splashes
Outdoor, hallway, office Wall light, lantern, ceiling light Warm white to neutral white Sheltered location, surface to cover

Warm white or neutral white: which temperature for an E27 LED bulb?

Warm white runs from 2700 to 3500K and covers every bulb in the collection: it is the warm rendering you expect in a living room, a bedroom or above a table. Neutral white, between 3500 and 4500K, closer to 4000K, appears on one reference and suits rooms where you read or work.

Warm white E27 LED bulbs: which rooms?

Warm white remains the default choice for a home. The 2700K bulbs give the most amber shade in the family. Conversely, the 3000K bulbs offer a slightly crisper warm white, comfortable in a kitchen or a hallway. Both stay in the same family and blend without a break in the same room.

4000K E27 LED bulbs: for which use?

4000K belongs to neutral white. It makes contrasts sharper and demands less effort on a paper document than a very amber warm white. It is reserved for the office, the workshop or a kitchen where you cook. One reference in this selection covers it, the 7.5W E27 LED Bulb, which also covers warm white. The 7W 760 lumen bulb is stated as warm white 3000K only.

Cool white: where to avoid it

Cool white, above 4500K, is not represented here. It hardens features, ages a living room or a bedroom in the evening and creates a workplace mood. In a room for resting, stay with warm white. In a technical space, it can be justified.

Should you aim for a 100W, 40W or 15W E27 LED bulb?

The highest wattage found in this selection is 16W, and the 7W bulb states 760 lumens: it is the output, not the watts, that indicates the amount of light. A few-watt LED can be enough where a classic bulb needed much more, so compare lumens before wattage.

What light output in lumens tells you

The lumen measures the light emitted, the watt the consumption. Without an output stated on the product page, compare at equal wattage and rely on the surface of the room: a small room needs little, a large one gains from multiplying light points rather than pushing a single bulb. Looking for 100W no longer makes sense with LED.

Wattages found in the selection

The collection goes down to 1 and 2W on an outdoor model and up to 16W on the 16W amber bulb. In between, 3, 6, 7 and 7.5W cover most indoor needs. The 220V LED bulbs run on the usual household mains, without a transformer.

E27 filament bulb or classic LED: what difference for decoration?

An E27 filament bulb shows its filaments and is chosen when it stays visible: chandelier, pendant, wall light, table lamp. The selection mixes glass, metal, brass, aluminium and iron, in gold, beige, white, black or silver finishes, which changes the look of the fixture as much as the light emitted.

Decorative E27 LED bulbs: when the bulb is seen

If the bulb is hidden, the filament adds nothing more. If it is visible, it becomes the decorative element: glass globe, straight or twisted filament, warm colour. The retro bulbs and their amber finish warm the light as soon as you switch them on. The globe shape dominates the selection by far, the round shape comes next.

Glass, metal, brass: the materials in the selection

Glass lets light through and makes the source visible: it is the most common material. Metal and brass hold the filament and bring the gold finish. Aluminium lightens the whole, iron gives a rawer look to contemporary models, and plastic protects the bulbs intended for outdoor use. Glass therefore remains the main marker to look at.

Dimmable E27 LED bulbs: how to check compatibility with a dimmer?

A dimmer is not a given: only certain references in the collection are stated as compatible. You check this point on the product page before buying, because an LED bulb not designed to dim can flicker or buzz. If the dimmer is an old one, it is better to confirm compatibility before buying.

What is stated on the product page

Three pieces of information matter: the base, the dimmer compatibility and the light temperature. The dimmer-controlled versions state it explicitly, like the filament pack in the selection. A compatible bulb dims continuously; without that mention, it works on an all-or-nothing basis.

Old dimmer: the point to check

A rotary dimmer from a previous generation sometimes matches poorly with a recent LED. The symptom is clear: flickering, humming, or a setting that only covers the start of the range. In that case, compatibility is confirmed before buying, or the dimmer is replaced. The dimmer-compatible filament pack removes that doubt.

Ceiling light, chandelier or wall light: which fixture takes an E27 bulb?

The E27 base is found on ceiling lights, chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and many table lamps. The choice depends on what you want to show: a filament bulb stays visible in a chandelier or a wall light, while a flat ceiling light diffuses the light without the bulb being seen.

Living room LED ceiling light: a mostly diffused bulb

In a ceiling light, the bulb is often behind a diffuser. Look then for a compact shape, compatible with the available height: the model 6 cm in diameter and 10.5 cm high fits most bowls. The lighting catalogue lets you check what takes an E27 before ordering.

LED chandelier: several visible light points

A chandelier multiplies the sources. There you look for regular shapes, preferably identical, rather than one very powerful bulb. A moderate wattage repeated on each socket gives a softer light than a few strong sources. In a chandelier, the bulb is seen: you may as well choose it in glass or filament.

LED wall light: lighting without a ceiling light

A wall light illuminates a wall, a hallway or a reading corner without going through the ceiling. If the bulb stays visible, the finish makes the difference: the Éclat Doré filament bulb, in glass, metal and aluminium, measures 6.5 cm in diameter by 14 cm high. The gold, white or black finishes are chosen according to the spirit of the wall.

How do you install and maintain an E27 LED bulb?

Every bulb in the collection has an E27 base: switch off the circuit, screw in fully without forcing, then check the type of socket before buying. The IP20 rating found everywhere means keeping them away from water splashes, even in a bathroom fixture or a model intended for outdoor use.

E27 base: screw in, cut the power, check the socket

Cut the power at the breaker, not just at the switch. Screw in by hand, without tightening like a bolt: contact is made on the thread. If the socket is old, check that it has no play. The neighbouring base formats are not interchangeable, an E14 is thinner than an E27, and small pin bases have nothing in common with them.

Outdoor bulbs: what the product page states

IP20 does not protect from rain. A bulb placed outside must be sheltered under an awning, in a closed lantern or a wall light. The model intended for outdoor use comes in 1 and 2W, in glass, metal and plastic, and goes into a fixture that isolates it from water. For maintenance, a dry cloth is enough, with no product.

What are the drawbacks of LED bulbs?

E27 LED bulbs consume little but call for vigilance on three points: dimmer compatibility, which is not a given, the light colour, which is chosen room by room, and the light output, which varies from one reference to another. The IP20 rating found across the whole selection means keeping them away from water splashes.

Dimmer compatibility: the point to check

The dimmer remains the main source of disappointment. A bulb not designed for it can buzz, blink or refuse to dim. The answer is simple: read the product page before buying, and keep an original bulb on hand to test a wall light or a ceiling light fitted with an old dimmer.

Light colour: the trap of cool white in a bedroom

Cool white in a bedroom is the classic mistake: it wakes you up instead of relaxing you. Warm white 2700-3500K, present across the whole selection, remains the safe choice for rooms for resting. Neutral white is kept for reading or working spaces, and the output is chosen according to the surface to light.

Ordering an E27 LED bulb: delivery, returns and advice

To move fast, identify the room, the light temperature and the shape, then order. Payment is secure, delivery is tracked and returns are possible if the format does not suit. Designix customer service answers on dimmer compatibility or on the warranty, stated from 2 to 5 years depending on the models in the selection. Two useful starting points: the 7.5W E27 bulb that covers two temperatures, handy if you are still hesitating, and the filament pack already mentioned for a fixture on a dimmer.

Frequently asked questions about E27 LED bulbs

Which is the most powerful E27 bulb in the selection?

The highest wattage found here is 16W, on an amber filament retro bulb. Wattage alone does not say everything: the 7W bulb states 760 lumens, a more useful marker for comparing two models before choosing. Look at the stated output before the number of watts.

Is a 15W E27 LED bulb bright enough?

Everything depends on the fixture and the room, not on the figure alone. In the selection, the highest wattage is 16W and a 7W model states 760 lumens: it is that output that indicates the amount of light. For a large room, compare lumens rather than watts.

Can you install an E27 LED bulb in an old ceiling light or chandelier?

Yes, if the socket really is an E27, which is the case for every bulb in the selection. You cut the circuit, screw in without forcing and check the clearance. In a chandelier or a wall light where the bulb stays visible, a filament or glass version makes perfect sense.

Warm white or cool white E27 LED bulbs for a living room?

Warm white 2700-3500K, present across the whole collection, gives the living room a warm light, consistent with a room where you relax. Neutral white 3500-4500K, closer to 4000K, exists on one reference and is rather reserved for reading or working spaces.

Does the warranty cover E27 LED bulbs?

Depending on the models in the collection, the stated warranty runs from 2 to 5 years. It appears on the product page, with the base, the light temperature and the protection rating. If in doubt about a reference, Designix customer service can confirm the applicable duration before buying.

Where can you find the other bulbs and compatible fixtures?

If your fixture calls for another format or another intensity, the rest of the catalogue takes over: browse all the bulbs in the catalogue to compare bases and temperatures, and all the fixtures compatible with E27 to check what takes your bulb. The collection stays centred on the E27 base, in warm white, with a few dimmable models and one outdoor model.
