The jute weave filters light instead of blocking it: it gives off a soft, warm halo, with no glaring hotspot. On pendant lights and outdoor fixtures with a warm white source of 2700-3500 K, the mood stays gentle in the evening; on models with an E27 base, the bulb you install sets the tone, whether in the living room or on the terrace.

What kind of light does a jute pendant or string light give?

Expect a subdued light, never a sharp beam. The fibre lets light through its mesh and spreads it around the room: the edges of the fixture form soft shadows and nothing glares when you look up. The effect is most noticeable in the evening, when the weave itself takes on colour.

Jute canvas light: what the weave changes about the light

A tightly woven canvas gives a more contained halo than braided rope, whose wider mesh lets through sharper glints. An open dome at the bottom projects downwards, a closed volume lights up more around itself. The round outdoor light Livtorena, listed at 15 x 38 cm, relies on a taut weave that keeps the halo tight. For comparable volumes, also look at pendant lights, whose round shapes sit well above a dining table.

Warm white or cooler light: how to choose the bulb?

In general, a source around 2700 to 3500 K gives a warm white, the kind that warms a living space and matches the beige of the fibre. Above 4000 K, the light shifts towards neutral then cool and hardens the material. On models with an E27 base, this tone depends entirely on the bulb you choose. Beige-coloured lights stay consistent with this register.

Where to install a jute light: terrace, garden or living room?

Most of these lights are designed for outdoor and terrace use, with a few formats for the living room, dining room or bedroom. Indoors and out, the protection rating is the deciding factor: IP44 corresponds to protection against water splashes, IP54 adds dust. A string light stretches over 330 cm or 800 cm depending on the model.

Jute living room light: where should it go?

Above a dining table, a dome pendant drops into the volume and recentres the room. In a living room, a round pendant hung near a reading corner is enough to create a zone, without lighting the whole surface. For a more polished result, design lights for the living room pair well with a discreet ceiling light.

Jute outdoor light: IP44 or IP54?

An IP44 is fine in a sheltered spot: under an awning, along a railing, on a covered terrace. An IP54 is designed to stay outside and withstand dust as well as splashes. For an exposed garden, stick with IP54, like the large Inesita light in braided fibres. Outdoor lights with a current design and lighting around a pool follow the same logic of ratings.

Choosing your jute light according to the room and exposure
Room or use Suitable rating Suitable format Point to check
Sheltered terrace IP44 or IP54 String light or round light Length of the string light and fixing point
Garden, exposed outdoor IP54 Outdoor light Watertightness at the socket
Living room Indoor or IP54 Dome pendant How the light renders in the room
Dining room Indoor or IP54 Pendant Position above the dining table
Bedroom Indoor Compact pendant Light tone, warm white
Kitchen Indoor Short pendant Distance from steam zones

What are the trending living room lights for 2026?

What this selection shows, without claiming to be a market study: natural materials are back, jute, wood, rope and bamboo leading, with beige and white tones, round or dome shapes and warm white light. Solar, for its part, remains reserved for outdoor and terrace models. An original light depends less on its shape than on the consistency between its material and the room it lives in.

For a living room, the demand is for simple volumes and low pendants above a table. Modern living room lights and LED living room lighting cover this register, while our selection of lights brings together all the available families.

Pendant, ceiling light or jute string light: which format to choose?

A ceiling light sits flush with the ceiling and suits passage areas, where you do not want to bump into anything. A pendant drops into the room and goes above a table or in an empty volume, higher than a head passes. Here, jute mainly dresses pendants, string lights and outdoor lights.

Jute ceiling light or jute pendant: how to decide?

The ceiling light frees up the field of vision and suits hallways, corridors and small rooms. The pendant, on the other hand, creates a low point that draws the eye: perfect above a dining table, awkward in a passage. The Cordella dome, in textile cord, belongs to this second family. Recessed lights meet the same need for clearance when height is lacking.

Jute chandelier and jute floor lamp: which formats to turn to?

This selection does not offer a beaded chandelier or a floor lamp dressed in jute. The formats present are pendants, string lights that stretch out lengthwise and round outdoor lights, including the large 137 cm long model. To light a corner without drilling the ceiling, our floor lights step in, as do outdoor floor lights on a terrace. The dining room pendant remains the most common format for a dining table.

How to choose: E27 base, integrated LED or solar?

Only three cases. An E27 base takes the bulb of your choice, but you have to plan for it at purchase. An integrated LED cannot be replaced: nothing to plan, a tone fixed at the factory. A solar model works without wiring, provided it captures daylight. The dimmer is only on some models, and a two-year warranty covers only part of the selection.

E27 bulb: which one to plan for a jute light?

An E27 filament or LED bulb, in warm white, is enough in most rooms. Outdoors, take the location into account: the bulb stays protected by the fixture's socket, but it must accept the intended use. The Luntoressa outdoor light and the Livtorena light work on this principle. For a pronounced tone, the black wooden light works very well with a single bulb. See also black wooden light.

Solar string light or plug-in string light: which to choose?

The solar string light avoids any wiring and any cable to run: the Camillo solar bamboo string light depends directly on it, as does the Vintaga string light with filament bulbs. Plugged in, you keep control over the switch-on time and brightness, but you need a socket nearby. The Luntorena string light and the Feliciano string light illustrate the two approaches on the same terrace.

Light source, bulb and adjustment
Type of source What this implies Bulb to plan Light temperature Dimmer
E27 base Interchangeable bulb, you choose your light E27 bulb Depending on the bulb installed Depending on the model
Integrated LED Source fixed at the factory, nothing to change None Fixed by the manufacturer No
Solar Works without wiring None Depending on the model No

Once the type of source is decided, browse all Designix lights to compare the remaining formats.

How to install and care for a jute light?

A jute light is cared for dry: gentle dusting, no water or product on the fibre. Outdoors, it all depends on the rating, an IP54 being designed to stay outside, an IP44 settling for a sheltered spot. Any light to be wired should be entrusted to an electrician.

How to clean a jute light?

A soft brush or a vacuum cleaner on minimum power is enough to remove dust caught in the mesh. Water and stagnant humidity soften the fibre and dull it: instead, wipe the frame with a barely damp cloth, never the canvas. A model like the Cordella dome pendant, which mixes fabric and cord, is dusted in the same way.

Can a jute light stay outside all year?

With an IP54, yes, in an exposed outdoor setting, including in the rain. With an IP44, place it under an awning or a roof overhang. String lights are hung along a railing or between two posts, making sure the connection point stays sheltered. The Livtorena round outdoor light and the large Inesita light in braided fibres are listed as IP54.

Lights for toilets, kitchen and small rooms: does jute have its place?

Yes, provided you choose a short format and pay attention to ventilation. In a toilet, a compact ceiling-mounted light frees up the passage and is quick to clean; in a kitchen, keep it away from steam and cooking zones. Jute fibre prefers ventilated rooms to stagnant humidity, which also applies to a bathroom.

For a small volume, a low-profile model is better than a low pendant. Toilet lights bring together the suitable formats, and kitchen lights meet the same criterion of compactness. One model from this selection, the Cordella dome, is in fact listed as suitable for the kitchen among other rooms.

Frequently asked questions

What is the nature of the jute material?

Jute is a plant fibre spun into canvas or rope. Woven, it forms a supple weave with visible mesh that filters light; as rope, it serves as a tie or a wrapping. In this selection, it is combined with wood, bamboo, rattan and fabric, most often in beige or white tones.

What is a jute canvas light?

It is a light whose shade or envelope is made from a canvas woven with jute fibres: the light passes through the weave and diffuses in a warm halo, with no glaring hotspot. The canvas is stretched over a round or dome frame depending on the model, which determines the width of the halo.

Vintage light or modern light: which to choose?

Vintage plays on visible filament bulbs, black and white tones and exposed cords; modern relies on simple lines and taut domes. Jute suits both. The real benchmark remains the light: a warm white around 2700 to 3500 K warms the room in both cases.

How to light a kitchen with a jute light?

A kitchen needs light that does not cast shadows on the worktop: a compact format above the central area is preferred, in warm white to keep a soft mood. Jute likes ventilated rooms, so keep it away from steam and cooking zones.

Which lights to choose for a toilet?

In a toilet, size and humidity matter more than style: a short, ceiling-mounted format frees up the passage and is quick to clean. A jute pendant works if the room is ventilated; otherwise, look at toilet lights.
