A dimmable spotlight is chosen first for the room: an intensity you lower in the evening in the living room, a crisp light above the kitchen worktop. All the models in this collection are LED with dimming capability, with integrated LED socket, in aluminium or glass, in black or white, with an IP20 rating.

What is a dimmable spotlight and how does a dimmable spotlight work?

A dimmable spotlight is an LED spotlight whose light intensity is adjusted with a dimmer, from the softest to the brightest. In this collection, every model is an LED with dimming capability, with integrated LED socket, in aluminium or glass, with an IP20 rating.

Dimmable spotlight: how does it work?

The dimmer acts on the spotlight's power supply: the control rotates, slides or is pushed, and the integrated LED rises or falls in intensity. Since the socket is an integrated LED socket, there is no bulb to choose and no bulb compatibility to check.

The material changes the rendering. Aluminium gives a crisp light on a matte body, glass diffuses it more widely, as on the Luna in white glass.

Dimmable spotlights in the living room and kitchen

In the living room, the intensity is lowered in the evening for accent lighting and raised for reading or entertaining. In the kitchen, the level stays crisp above the worktop and softer on the rest of the room. The same control handles both moments.

Which dimmable spotlight should you choose for the living room or kitchen?

The right dimmable spotlight depends first on the room: in the living room, a modular and discreet light; in the kitchen, a crisp light above the worktop. Round, tube or ball shape, black or white colour, aluminium or glass, power from 5 to 25 W depending on use.

Dimmable spotlight: what power for which room?

Low power ratings suit accent and mood lighting, higher ones suit main lighting. The 18 W black Rado sits in the middle of the range: enough light for a living room, without excess above a table.

White or black: how do you match the spotlight to the ceiling?

A light ceiling supports both: white blends in, black draws a crisp point. On a dark ceiling, white creates a deliberate contrast. Compare the black models and the white spotlights before deciding. The modern lines bring both together.

How should spotlights be arranged on the ceiling?

Spotlights are arranged on the ceiling according to the area to be lit: a line above a worktop, a ring to light a room widely, an alignment facing a wall to be highlighted. Orientation and intensity are adjusted after installation, not before.

Aligned or ring-shaped spotlights depending on the room

A regular alignment suits long rooms and worktops: the light falls in a continuous band. The ring lights the centre of a living room without leaving a dark zone. The format helps you choose: a slim tube like the Parete stays discreet, a large diameter like the Relax at Ø 15 cm takes up ceiling space.

The recessed dimmable LED spotlights suit alignment, the metal spotlights suit regular series.

How do you aim spotlights towards a worktop or a wall?

An adjustable spotlight is aimed after installation towards a worktop, a painting or a wall. A fixed spotlight lights straight down. If you are unsure, look at the adjustable recessed spotlights and the black Larc spotlight, whose Ø 3.6 cm body stays discreet on the ceiling.

White or black, round or tube: the effect on the ceiling
Format Matching colour Material Where it stays discreet
Round Black or white Aluminium Plain ceiling, alignment of several spotlights
Tube Black or white Aluminium Wall, low ceiling, narrow width
Ball White Glass Bright room, more diffuse light

Do LED bulbs work with a dimmer?

Yes, LEDs work with a dimmer provided the whole setup is designed for dimming. In this collection, the spotlights are LEDs with dimming capability, with integrated LED socket: compatibility is checked between the dimmer and the spotlight, with no bulb to replace.

Can a dimmable LED bulb work on a standard switch?

A dimmable spotlight or bulb connected to a simple switch turns on and off normally: dimming is simply not used. Operation remains correct, but the point of the dimmer is lost.

How do you know if a dimmer is LED compatible?

The dimmer must be rated for LED loads, with a power range compatible with that of the spotlights it controls. A model designed for halogen is not always suitable. The black LED spotlights and the rest of the Designix lighting catalogue dim with a consistent setup.

What problems can occur with an LED dimmer?

Issues almost always come from compatibility between the dimmer and the spotlight: flickering, stepped variation, slight humming, residual light when switched off. A dimmer designed for halogen is not necessarily suited to LEDs. On these spotlights, the 5-year warranty covers the selection.

Why does my LED spotlight flicker with the dimmer?

Flickering generally signals a dimmer poorly matched to the LED load, or a power rating too low for it. A consistent setup, such as recessed dimmable versions, limits this phenomenon. The installation should be checked by an electrician.

Halogen dimmer: can it be kept with LED spotlights?

Sometimes yes, often no: it all depends on the model and its load range. If dimming is unstable, replacing the dimmer solves the situation. The Focus LED in neutral white installs at 20 W, with a cooler light than warm white.

Recessed or surface spotlight, adjustable or fixed: which installation should you choose?

A recessed spotlight integrates into the ceiling and requires a cut-out; a surface spotlight is fixed to an existing support, like the Larc, Rado, Parete and Focus models. Adjustable or fixed, the choice depends on what you want to light.

Recessed or surface spotlight: what changes on the ceiling

A recessed spotlight sits flush with the ceiling, for an alignment without protrusion. A surface model installs without cutting a recess, but protrudes slightly. Both families exist in dimmable versions: see the recessed dimmable LED spotlights on one side, and the black wall-mounted Parete on the other, with its 2.2 cm thickness.

Adjustable or fixed spotlight in a living room

In a living room, an adjustable spotlight is aimed at a wall or a bookcase and adjusted with the seasons. A fixed one simply lights an already furnished room. The adjustable LED spotlights and the black adjustable spotlights cover both needs.

For maintenance, a dry cloth is enough to dust the fixture, and the integrated LED cannot be removed.

Frequently asked questions about dimmable spotlights

What is a dimmable spotlight?

A dimmable spotlight is a spotlight whose light intensity is adjusted with a dimmer, from lowest to highest. In this collection, all models are dimmable LEDs, in aluminium or glass, to be installed on the ceiling or wall in a living room or kitchen.

Which dimmable spotlight should you choose?

It all depends on the room and the desired effect: a small discreet format on the ceiling, a large model for a more enveloping light, a slim tube for a wall. Here, the spotlights are LED, with dimming capability, in black or white, from 5 to 25 W.

Do LED bulbs work with a dimmer?

Yes, provided the dimmer and the lighting setup are designed for dimming. The spotlights in this collection are LEDs with dimming capability, with integrated LED socket: there is no bulb to match, compatibility is between the dimmer and the spotlight.

Can a non-dimmable LED bulb be used on a dimmer?

A non-dimmable LED is not designed to be dimmed: variation may be unstable or not work. Here the question does not arise, the spotlights are LEDs with dimming capability and integrated LED socket, with no bulb to replace or check.

What problems can occur with an LED dimmer?

Flickering, stepped variation, slight humming or residual light when switched off: these issues most often come from incompatibility between the dimmer and the lighting. A consistent setup, such as LEDs with dimming capability, limits these effects.
