Place the lamp on your bedside table and switch it on: no socket, no cable to run along the wall. These cordless LED bedside table lamps move from the bed to the living room to the terrace, with a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K on most models and IP54 or IP65 protection depending on the room they live in.
What kind of light do these cordless LED bedside table lamps give?
They light with LED, with a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K on most models and a cool white of 4500 to 6500 K on others, the Cubella adding a neutral white of 3500 to 4500 K. The result stays that of an accent light, soft for reading in bed or lighting a corner of the terrace.
Warm white or cool white: what to choose for a bedroom?
In a bedroom, warm white 2700-3500 K remains the reference: amber tint, close to the old filament bulb, it keeps the room restful when everything else is switched off. It is the only temperature of the Atrium and one of the two of the Valtorella. Cool white 4500-6500 K lights more sharply and works better outside than at the bedside. In between, the neutral white 3500-4500 K of the Cubella gives comfortable reading without glare.
An accent light, not room lighting
These lamps sit at table height: their light falls on a book, an armchair, a corner of wall, not on twelve square metres. For the background light of a bedroom, add a fixed point, to be chosen from our full range of lighting. If you are looking first for the bedside lamp, the LED table lamps for the bedroom section gathers the formats suited to a bedside table.
Where to place a cordless bedside lamp: bedroom, living room or terrace?
On a bedside table, a living room console or a terrace table: no socket is needed, so the lamp follows the use and moves in the evening. Bedroom, living room and outdoor are indicated for the models in the collection, the terrace for most of them.
| Room | What we expect | Decisive criterion | Model to look at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedroom | a soft light for reading in bed | warm white 2700-3500 K, compact format | Valtorella, Solella |
| Living room | a mood lamp on a console | low or ball shape, warm white | Valtorella, Atrium |
| Terrace | resisting water splashes | IP65 | Cubella, Atrium |
| Exposed outdoor | staying outside without worry | IP65 and stable base | Cubella, Atrium |
| Small bedside table | not taking up space | 16 x 16 cm footprint | Solella |
On a wooden table without a cloth, in the living room
A cordless lamp avoids the extension lead crossing the room and the power strip hidden behind the sofa. On a console or a side table, the Valtorella Art Deco ball lays down a pool of warm white without asking anything of the wall. The design models for the living room play the same card on a low piece of furniture.
A bedside lamp that follows from bed to terrace
In the evening it is on the bedside table; in summer it ends up on the garden table. The Solella lamp in bamboo slats fills this role with its 16 x 16 x 36 cm and its IP54 protection. For even more portable use, look at the designer LED table lamps.
How to choose between models: format, material and protection rating?
Three criteria are enough: the format, which decides the available space, the material (metal, bamboo, wood or plastic depending on the desired look) and the protection rating, IP54 for sheltered use, IP65 for a terrace exposed to splashes. The light temperature then settles the choice between a soft mood and sharper lighting.
| Model | Format | Protection rating | Light temperatures | Style and material | Indicated rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solella | 16 x 16 x 36 cm | IP54 | Not specified | Bamboo slats, metal, wood | Bedroom, living room, terrace, outdoor |
| Cubella | 20 x 20, 32 x 32 or 40 x 40 cm | IP65 | Warm, neutral, cool white | Contemporary, white cube | Bedroom, living room, terrace, outdoor |
| Valtorella | 25 x 51.3 cm | IP54 | Warm white, cool white | Art Deco, beige metal ball | Bedroom, living room, outdoor |
| Atrium | 27.8 x 40.7 cm | IP65 | Warm white | Art Deco, beige ribbed base | Bedroom, living room, terrace, outdoor |
IP54 or IP65: what it changes outside
The protection rating describes resistance to dust and water. IP54 covers splashes and a covered terrace; IP65 withstands water jets, so a table exposed to rain. Neither means immersion: none of these models goes in a pond. The Cubella IP65 solar LED cube and the Atrium are the two references rated IP65.
From the small 16 cm format to the 51 cm ball
Measure the usable depth of your table before choosing. The Solella fits in 16 x 16 cm; the Valtorella rises to 51.3 cm high for 25 cm wide and becomes a decorative object in its own right. The Cubella comes in squares of 20, 32 or 40 cm per side. For a more understated look on a wooden piece of furniture, see also the black metal bedside lamps.
How to connect several lamps to a single power supply?
A cordless lamp has nothing to plug in: it is placed and switched on, so it adds no load to the circuit. For several fixed light fittings, a wired wall light, an LED ceiling light or an LED chandelier, a dedicated supply and connection by an installer are needed, sized on the total power.
Why a cordless lamp avoids the power strip
Two wired bedside lamps on the same socket need an adapter, then an extension lead, then a cable cover. A self-contained table lamp removes the problem at the source: it is installed where you want to read, without touching the consumer unit. This is the case with the ceramic bedside lamps as with the cordless models presented here.
And if you add a wall light or an LED ceiling light?
There, it is a different family: a fixed light fitting connects to the mains and needs an electrical point. Have the cable cross-section and the number of points checked by a professional rather than piling everything on one line. To prepare the rest of the room, go through the designer wooden table lamps for furniture, and an electrician for wall mounting.
Italian design bedside lamp or original bedside lamp: which style to choose?
If you are looking for an Italian design bedside lamp, clean lines and worked materials count more than the label: the Art Deco metal ball of the Valtorella and the beige ribbed base of the Atrium come close. An original lamp plays on shape: contemporary white cube or bamboo slats.
The contemporary cube, the Art Deco ball, the bamboo slats
Three families, three effects. The Cubella cube, in white, blends into a bright contemporary bedroom. The beige metal sphere of the Valtorella brings an Art Deco line to a console. The stacked slats of the Solella filter the light and draw stripes on the wall. More ideas in the white designer table lamps.
A designer bedside lamp with no visible cable
The design of a bedside lamp also plays on what you cannot see: no wire hanging behind the bedside table, no half-pulled socket. The Atrium lamp with ribbed base relies on this principle, in warm white only. See also the designer table lamps for the bedroom.
What are the drawbacks of LED lamps?
The bulb is LED on these models: it cannot be replaced, a failure means changing the light fitting. Some offer a cool white of 4500 to 6500 K, less restful at the bedside than a warm white. Finally, solar models depend on sun exposure to recharge.
An LED bulb that cannot be replaced
It is the flip side of compactness: the source is sealed into the fitting, there is no socket to screw into. In practice, you choose the light temperature once and for all at purchase, with no possibility of switching from warm to cool later. To keep that flexibility, turn to adjustable table lamps or to a fitting with a classic socket.
Solar, practical outside, more limited inside
A solar panel needs daylight: on a bedside table far from the window, recharging will be slow. Solar remains a good choice on a terrace or an exposed ledge, less so in a dark bedroom. Conversely, linen table lamps filter the light nicely but change nothing about battery life.
How to install and care for a cordless bedside lamp?
Nothing to connect: you place the lamp, point the solar panel towards daylight on the models concerned, and wipe the surface with a soft cloth. The IP54 and IP65 ratings allow outdoor use; just avoid drowning the base and covering the panel.
Expose the solar panel to recharge
Place the panel towards the window, without covering it with a book or a frame. A model placed in the shade of a curtain recharges poorly, even outside. If the lamp lives between two rooms, let it enjoy natural light during the day rather than leaving it in a drawer. To complete a workspace, see the Designix lighting catalogue.
Clean without damaging the finish
A soft cloth is enough on metal, plastic and bamboo. No abrasive product on the ribbed base of the Atrium, and no direct jet on an IP54 lamp. For a desk, the LED desk lamps are cleaned the same way, dry.
What is the best cordless bedside lamp?
There is no single best model, but a model per use: the Cubella and the Atrium in IP65 for a terrace or an exposed outdoor area, the Valtorella in IP54 for a bedside or a living room, the Solella in 16 x 16 x 36 cm for small tables. Format and light temperature settle it.
For a terrace or an exposed outdoor area
Aim for IP65, the only protection that takes rain on an uncovered table. The Cubella cube also offers three temperatures, handy for lighting without creating too warm a mood outside. The wide base of the Atrium gives it stability on a garden table.
For a bedside or a living room
Indoors, IP54 is more than enough. The Valtorella, with its 25 x 51.3 cm and its beige metal ball, serves as a reading lamp and a decorative object. The Solella suits when the bedside table is narrow. To widen the comparison, look at the modern lamps for the living room.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service: you can test the format at home and return the lamp if there is not enough space on the table.
Frequently asked questions
Italian design bedside lamp: what sets it apart?
Italian design is read in the restraint of the lines and the working of the material more than in a label. Here, the Art Deco metal ball of the Valtorella and the beige ribbed base of the Atrium come close, with a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K for the mood.
How to choose an original bedside lamp?
Start from the shape before the colour: contemporary white cube of the Cubella, Art Deco sphere of the Valtorella, ribbed base of the Atrium, stacked bamboo slats of the Solella. Then check the available format and the protection rating if the lamp is to go outside.
Does a cordless bedside lamp replace a wired wall light?
No: a wired wall light lights from above and stays fixed, whereas a cordless lamp moves and gives an accent light. The two complement each other in a bedroom or living room: the wall light for background light, the table lamp for the reading corner.
Can a cordless bedside lamp be left outside?
Yes for IP65 models such as the Cubella and the Atrium, also indicated for the terrace and outdoors. The Valtorella and the Solella are IP54, so protected against splashes but not against a direct jet or immersion. Avoid covering the solar panel.
What is the best cordless bedside lamp?
It depends on the room: the Cubella and the Atrium, in IP65, suit a terrace or an outdoor area; the Valtorella, Art Deco ball IP54 of 25 x 51.3 cm, holds a bedside or a living room; the Solella, 16 x 16 x 36 cm, slips onto a small table.
