Plan on one table lamp per living area: one on the bedside table for reading, one on the entryway console, one on the dining room sideboard, one in the corner of the desk. Before adding to cart, check three things: the bulb base, the height of the model and the space actually available on the furniture.
Where to place a table lamp in the home?
On a piece of furniture, never on the floor: the bedroom and living room account for most uses, then the desk, dining room and entryway. When the available surface is narrow, a compact format solves the problem, like the Flumina ST in walnut and glass, which is no more than 19 cm tall.
Living room table lamp
On a console, sideboard or end table, the table lamp lights a specific area without turning on the whole ceiling. Tall, slender silhouettes fit well here: the Stang reaches 51 cm, the Karbon 43 cm. To complete the look, browse our living room lamps and the floor lamps when the floor is free.
Bedroom, desk and entryway table lamp
On a bedside table, aim for a small format between 19 and 38 cm so it does not get in the way when you wake up. The Flumina ST in walnut and glass fits in a desk corner, the Bloeba in woven bamboo dresses up a narrow entryway. Compare with the bedside lamps and the desk lamps.
Table lamp or floor lamp: what is the difference, and for which living room?
The table lamp slips onto an existing piece of furniture and serves as targeted extra light, without cluttering the floor. The floor lamp stands on the floor and covers a wider area, often behind a sofa or near an armchair. Both formats combine in the same room, one for reading, the other for atmosphere.
Living room floor lamp: when to prefer it?
Choose it when no furniture is near the sofa, or when you want to light downward without taking up a console. It does, however, require floor space and a cable to run neatly. Our selection of floor lights pairs well with a table lamp placed on a sideboard.
Bedside lamp or table lamp on a bedside table?
It is the same family: what changes is the format and the light. A bedside lamp should be compact and readable when switched on, with an E27 or E14 base that is easy to replace. Compact models can be found in our bedside section and among the modern style bedside lamps.
Which base and bulb to choose for a table lamp?
The E27 base dominates by far, complemented by E14, G9, GU10 and a few integrated LED modules. A screw-in bulb can be replaced in seconds, an integrated LED module never gets changed: check this point before buying, especially for a bedside lamp you will keep for years.
LED table lamp or screw-in bulb?
The integrated LED model, like the Zenith2 in bronze or silver, avoids any bulb to buy again and stays compact. The screw-in bulb, on the other hand, lets you change the intensity and the shade whenever you like. The wattages stated on screw-in models range from 5 W to 40 W.
Outdoor table lamp: what the IP20 rating changes
IP20 means the light is protected against solid objects and reserved for dry, sheltered rooms. The whole selection is IP20: terrace, balcony and damp bathroom are to be excluded. For outdoor use, look for a light with a higher protection rating, then come back to the LED models for indoors.
| Base | Models spotted | Bulb | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| E27 | Aspen, Stang, Noor, Bloeba | Screw-in bulb | The most common, easy replacement |
| E14 | Flumina ST walnut | Small screw base | Compact format, desk and small lampshades |
| G9 | Nemo 2 lights gold | G9 pin bulb | Two light points on a single base |
| GU10 | Karbon | Pin spotlight | Adjustable aluminium base, many colours |
| Integrated LED | Zenith2 bronze and silver | Non-replaceable module | No bulb to change |
Materials, shapes and styles: how to choose your table lamp?
Metal comes first, often paired with a fabric shade, a woven bamboo, rattan, cork or glass base. Styles range from contemporary to Nordic and minimalist, with round, tube, oval or ball shapes, in black, white, beige, gold or brown.
Rattan or wood table lamp
Rattan and woven bamboo filter the light and cast a regular pattern on the wall, which warms up an entryway or a reading corner. Wood and glass, as on the Flumina ST, give a cleaner look. See the metal lamps and the glass lamps to compare the two effects.
Glass or ceramic table lamp?
Glass lets light through and multiplies reflections, useful on a dark console. A fabric shade, on the other hand, softens the beam and suits a bedroom better. For an adult bedroom or a child's room, the bedroom lamps bring together these materials and formats.
| Room | Where to place it | Format observed | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedroom | Bedside table, chest of drawers | Small, 19 to 38 cm | Flumina ST, Nemo 2 lights |
| Living room | Console, sideboard, end table | Medium to tall, up to 51 cm | Stang, Aspen, Karbon |
| Desk | Corner of the worktop | Compact base | Flumina ST, Aspen |
| Dining room | Sideboard, serving table | Tall, slender silhouette | Stang, Aspen |
| Entryway | Narrow console | Stable, low base | Bloeba |
How to connect several lamps to a single electrical outlet?
You do not connect several lamps in series: use a power strip, a row of sockets or a switched socket. Add up the wattages of the bulbs and stay under the limit of the circuit and the power strip. For a fixed addition recessed into the wall, have the diagram approved by an electrician. The lamps in this collection plug into a socket, the wattage is stated on the bulb and replacement requires no tools.
How to recognise a real salt lamp?
A real salt lamp is carved from a block of rock salt: shade from pale pink to orange, irregular veined surface, heavy for its size. A perfectly smooth, very light or uniformly coloured piece is more likely reconstituted salt or a tinted diffuser. The models in this collection are table lamps with a shade and a replaceable bulb, from another family.
Red light salt lamp: where does this shade come from?
The colour comes from the block itself, which filters the light of the bulb placed inside and sends it back as pink or orange. The intensity depends on the bulb wattage and the density of the block. A frankly red light often signals a tinted bulb added by the user.
Where to place a salt lamp?
On a stable piece of furniture, sheltered from splashes, because salt fears humidity. Avoid the bathroom and damp rooms, as for any IP20 light. A living room corner or a sheltered entryway works, away from fabric or a curtain.
How to choose a designer table lamp or a chic living room lamp?
Design is recognised by a simple silhouette, a noble material and a careful finish rather than heavy decoration. For a chic living room lamp, look for a slender base in metal, steel or glass and a fabric shade; the gold, black or beige finishes in the selection play this card effortlessly.
Italian design table lamp: what signs to recognise?
Right proportions, little material, no frills: the base carries the shade and nothing more. The Aspen black and gold lamp gives a sober version, the adjustable Karbon a more technical one. Explore the design lamps and the gold finishes.
Designer bedside lamp for an adult bedroom
Look for a height compatible with the bedside table and an E27 or E14 base so you can change the mood. A dimmer, present on some models, adjusts the evening light without getting up. The adult bedroom lamps and the white models complete the picture.
How to care for a table lamp and adjust its light?
Unplug before dusting. A soft cloth is enough on metal, steel and glass, a feather duster or a vacuum cleaner on a gentle setting on a fabric shade.
Dimmer: which models in the selection?
Some models accept a dimmer, provided you install a compatible bulb, often a dimmable LED. Without this bulb, the setting does not work or buzzes. Check the note on the product sheet before buying the bulb, and look at the LED lamps for compatibility.
Which replacement bulb to choose?
Simply take the base indicated, E27, E14, G9 or GU10, and stay within the stated maximum wattage, from 5 W to 40 W depending on the model. A warm white shade, around 2700 to 3500 K, suits living areas. For a tight budget, look at the entry-level models and our lamp section, then the indoor lighting catalogue to complete the room.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service: the table lamp collection brings together the formats described here, and our lighting world covers the rest of the home.
Frequently asked questions about the table lamp
Can a table lamp be used outdoors?
No, all the table lamps in this collection are IP20, a rating reserved for dry, sheltered rooms. For a terrace or balcony, you need a light designed for humidity, with a higher protection rating. Indoors, also avoid very damp rooms.

A real salt lamp is carved from a block of rock salt: shade from pale pink to orange, irregular veined surface, heavy for its size. A very smooth, light or uniformly coloured piece is more likely reconstituted salt or a tinted diffuser. The lamps in this collection are models with a shade.
How to connect several lamps to a single electrical outlet?
Use a power strip, a row of sockets or a switched socket rather than a series connection. Add up the wattages of the bulbs and stay under the limit of the circuit and the power strip. For a fixed, recessed addition, have the diagram approved by an electrician.
Living room floor lamp: what is the difference with a table lamp?
The floor lamp stands on the floor and lights a wider area, often behind a sofa or near an armchair. The table lamp slips onto a console, sideboard or table and serves as targeted extra light. Both formats combine in the same living room.
Original bedside lamp: where to start?
Start with the format imposed by the bedside table, then choose the shape: round, tube, ball or oval depending on the models in the selection. An E27 or E14 base lets you change the mood with the bulb, and a dimmer-compatible model adjusts the evening light.
