Plan for one table lamp per living area: one near the table, one near the bench or armchair. Choose an IP65 rating for an open patio, an IP44 under an awning, and a warm white between 2700 and 3500 K to keep the evening mood without blinding.
What is the best lighting for a patio?
For a patio, a solar LED table lamp with IP65 resists water splashes and needs no socket: you move it near the bench or the table. An IP44 is suitable under an awning. Warm white light, between 2700 and 3500 K, keeps the evening mood without blinding.
Table lamp or string lights: what to choose for a table?
String lights draw a line above the table and mainly light the void. A table lamp provides a low source, close to glasses and faces, which lights the tablecloth and leaves the rest of the patio in a restful gloom. For a meal, place two small lamps rather than one large one: the light spreads without harsh shadows. The white solar cube IP65 plays this role near a bench, with adjustable warm to cool white depending on the moment.
Where to place the lamp to light without blinding?
Place the lamp below eye level when seated, either on a low shelf or on the floor. An openwork shade, like the bamboo slat shade, filters the light and projects a pattern on the table. Move the lamp away from the patio edge to focus light on your space rather than toward the neighbour. Does a solar table lamp really light up in the evening?
A solar table lamp captures daylight, stores it and releases it in the evening via an LED: no socket, no cable, you place it wherever you want. The collection is entirely solar, mostly with integrated LED, with one E27 socket reference if you prefer to change the bulb yourself.
How does the solar panel of a table lamp work?
A surface panel captures daylight, a battery stores it, the LED turns on at nightfall. The decisive point is not the lamp but the panel's exposure: six hours of direct daylight are better than a whole day in the shade of a wall. A south or west facing patio is ideal; on a north patio, place the lamp at the end of the table, where the light passes.
E27 socket or integrated LED: what difference in use?
The integrated LED cannot be replaced: nothing to buy, nothing to screw, but you keep the colour intended by the manufacturer. The E27 socket, as on the E27 model, lets you choose your bulb and its temperature. Both are equal on a patio; the E27 socket appeals to those who like to adjust, the integrated LED to those who want to place and forget. Which IP rating to choose for a patio lamp?
IP44 means protected against water splashes, IP65 against splashes and dust. On an exposed patio, an IP65 can be left outside without fear; an IP44 is placed under an awning or porch. Always check the rating on the datasheet of the model you are considering.
| Location | IP rating | Technology | Light colour | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Patio exposed to rain | IP65 | Solar LED | Warm white 2700-3500 K | Stays outside, no socket needed |
| Covered patio, under awning | IP44 | Solar LED | Warm white 2700-3500 K | Protected from splashes, sheltered by the wall |
| Dining table in the evening | IP65 | Solar LED | Neutral white 3500-4500 K | Faces and dishes clearer |
| Reading or relaxation corner | IP54 | Solar LED, bamboo | Warm white 2700-3500 K | Light filtered by the slat shade |
| Mixed use patio and living room | IP44 or IP65 | LED | Warm white to cool white | The same lamp follows indoors |
IP44 or IP65: what do these two ratings mean?
The first digit concerns solids, the second water. On an IP44, water protection is limited to splashes; on an IP65, it also covers dust, so lamps stay clean under a dusty awning. Neither means "immersible": a lamp sitting in a puddle is not designed for that.
Can a table lamp be left outside in the rain?
Yes in IP65, that is even its purpose. In IP44 or IP54, store it or shelter it when heavy rain is forecast. These models also find their place near a bed: see the bedside models for the bedroom.
Which light colour for a patio in the evening?
Warm white, 2700 to 3500 K, gives a golden light that prolongs the evening without harshness. Neutral white, 3500 to 4500 K, makes faces and dishes clearer. Cool white, 4500 to 6500 K, lights more sharply. Several models allow switching from one temperature to another.
Warm white, neutral white or cool white: which to choose?
Warm white for aperitif and conversation, neutral white when sitting at the table or reading, cool white for tidying or cleaning the patio. An adjustable lamp avoids stacking three light fixtures. On a set table, a warm white that is too orange distorts food colours; neutral corrects this in a second.
Light colour for living room: can the same lamp be kept inside?
Yes, all models in the collection are suitable for outdoor as well as living room or bedroom. A white or beige lamp moves from a patio table to a reading corner without disruption, and accompanies both meals on the patio and a reading moment in the evening. See modern table lamps for living room and black versions for a living room.
Which size and shape to choose for a table lamp?
On a small table, a narrow format of 10 to 16 cm per side fits without disturbing glasses; on the floor, a model 40 to 44 cm high acts as a light point. Square structures, round softens, the openwork shade projects a light pattern on the table.

Which size for a small patio table?
Measure the free space between plates: below 16 cm per side, the lamp remains a table object. The black openwork model with dimmer, 10 x 30 cm, slips into this space; the ribbed amber version, 16 x 25 cm, occupies the centre without hiding guests. Beyond that, the lamp becomes a floor object.
Square, round or openwork shade: what effect in the evening?
Square gives a clear light and a readable silhouette. Round softens angles and pairs with round tables. The openwork shade, on the other hand, draws: the Art Deco ribbed base and the ribbed oval shade project stripes on the tablecloth. To play with orientation, see adjustable lamps.
Plastic, metal or bamboo: which material for outdoor use?
Plastic and metal dominate the collection: metal plays finesse and contrast, plastic stays light to move. Bamboo and wood bring a warm texture, to be favoured under an awning or on a covered patio. The material never replaces the IP rating.
Plastic or metal for a lamp that stays outside?
Plastic carries with one hand and hardly fears knocks on a balcony. Metal holds light and keeps a fine line on a large table, provided you wipe it after a shower to avoid marks. Neither requires heavy maintenance: a cloth is enough at the end of the season.
Bamboo and wood on a covered patio
Bamboo and wood patina with humidity: reserve them for a porch, a pergola or a patio whose wall shelters. In exchange, they bring the texture that metal lacks in the evening. To go further, compare wooden table lamps and metal models for the office, often the same bases placed on another piece of furniture.
How to install and maintain a patio table lamp?
The lamps in this collection run on solar energy: they are placed, with no cable or electrical supply. Place the panel facing daylight, away from the shadow of a wall, and wipe it from time to time. For wired lamps, have the connection validated by an electrician.
How to connect several lamps to a single electrical supply?
The question does not arise here: solar eliminates any connection, therefore any risk of overload. If you insist on wired lamps, do not multiply extension leads in series outside and call an electrician, who will check the cable cross-section and circuit protection.
How to maintain the solar panel of a patio lamp?
A dusty or limescale-stained panel captures less well: wipe it with a damp cloth, without abrasive product. Move the lamp if a parasol or wall shades it part of the day. In winter, bring in IP44 and IP54 models. For additional light in a room, see LED table lamps for kitchen and ceramic table lamps.
What is the best outdoor light for a small balcony?
On a balcony, a compact IP65 model, placed on the shelf or on the floor, is enough to create a light point without drilling or socket. Choose a warm white between 2700 and 3500 K and a moderate height: the light stays around the table instead of lighting the neighbouring facade.
Balcony: which table lamp size?
A 20 cm cube fits on a support shelf without saturating it, a 40 cm version is installed on the floor in a corner. Weight matters less than bulk: keep passages and doors clear. A dimmable lamp adjusts the intensity with a simple gesture as the evening progresses.
How to create a light point without work?
Nothing to screw, nothing to drill: the lamp is placed and the solar panel does the rest. It is the simplest solution for rentals. You can complete with design lamps for the office and modern models for office if the same lamp must follow indoors, or pick from bedside ceramics.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service: you order with peace of mind and the model can be returned if it does not suit the intended place. Frequently asked questions
What is the best outdoor light?
The one whose IP rating matches the exposure: IP65 on an open patio, IP44 under an awning. Solar technology avoids any connection. The format is then chosen according to the available space, from the 10 cm per side model to the 40 cm cube.
IP44 or IP65: what difference for a patio lamp?
IP44 means protected against water splashes, IP65 against splashes and dust. On a patio exposed to rain, choose IP65. An IP44 is placed under an awning, a porch or a pergola, where water does not reach it directly.
Can a patio table lamp be kept in the living room?
Yes: the models in the collection are suitable for outdoor as well as living room or bedroom. A white IP65 cube or an openwork shade lamp moves without disruption from the balcony to the reading corner. Simply check the size relative to the side table.
How to connect several lamps to a single electrical supply?
The lamps in this collection are solar: they need no connection and therefore avoid the question. For wired lamps, do not multiply improvised connections and call an electrician, who will check the cable cross-section and circuit protection.
How to maintain a solar patio table lamp?
Wipe the solar panel when it is dusty and place it facing daylight, away from the shadow of a wall or parasol. Shelter the lamp if its rating is below IP65 and heavy rain is forecast. No other maintenance is necessary.
