Place the lamp on the patio slab, facing the steps or the path, and add nothing else: it turns on by itself when someone passes. The models in this collection run on solar power, use LED, are IP65 rated and set to a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K.

What is a motion sensor outdoor lamp?
It is a self-contained light with no drilling and no wall fixing: it sits on the ground or on a table and turns on when motion is detected. In the evening, the patio lights up as you come home, with no hunting for the switch, and the movement announces itself.
Motion sensor outdoor lamps: the principle
The lamp stays where you decide to put it and moves if the layout changes. No screws, no box, no chasing into the wall: on a rented patio or a balcony, that is what makes the difference. The solar panel recharges the battery during the day, and the sensor takes over at nightfall. To compare with fixed lights, browse our lighting catalogue.
What the sensor changes day to day
A lamp left on all the time wears out the patio and drains its reserve. The sensor limits the light to the useful moments: getting out of the car, the dog coming in, guests arriving. The rest of the time, the light stands by. This is also what sets a portable lamp apart from an adjustable table lamp, designed to direct a beam rather than to react.
How do you install outdoor lighting with a sensor?
Place the lamp on a stable surface, facing the walkway: no drilling and no wiring, since the power is solar on the models in this collection. For a mains-powered light, several lamps are wired in parallel on the same supply and the same switch.
Where to place the lamp so the sensor picks up movement?
Keep the front clear: a pot of geraniums or a tall planter in front of the sensor is enough to make it short-sighted. Aim it toward the bottom of the steps or the gate opening, not toward a pale wall that would throw the light back into nothing. A stable base, a slab, a low wall or a coffee table, stops it from turning in the wind. It is also better to move it away from the heat of a barbecue.
Wiring several lamps to a single power supply: what changes here
Parallel wiring gives each lamp the live and neutral, so they can be controlled together from a single switch. On this collection, the question does not arise: solar power removes the wiring, and therefore the wall switch. Nor is it anything like a patio ceiling, where spotlights are spaced in regular lines before drilling.
What light does a motion sensor outdoor lamp give?
These lamps give an LED light in warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K: a soft tone that warms the patio late in the evening without bleaching the walls. The source is LED technology, with an LED base stated on the product sheet.
Warm white 2700 to 3500 K: what atmosphere in the evening?
Around 2700 K, you get a warm white, close to a filament bulb: wood, rattan and pale textiles keep their warmth. Toward 3500 K, the rendering becomes a little more neutral, easier to read or move around by. In general, a residential outdoor space stays within this range rather than above 4000 K, where the light cools stone and plants.
LED and LED base: what it means in use
The sheet mentions an LED base: there is therefore no E27 bulb to plan for or match. LED technology gives off little heat, which matters in a closed light placed outdoors. Indoors, the same principle appears in designer LED table lamps, with more shapes available.
Where to place a motion sensor outdoor lamp?
On the ground near a staircase, on a patio coffee table, on a low wall or on a bedside table: the lamp moves and sits without fixing. The Atrium measures 27.8 cm wide by 40.7 cm high, the Artema 27.9 cm by 44.3 cm, two formats that fit on a narrow piece of furniture.
| Location | What you are looking for | Criterion to check on the sheet |
|---|---|---|
| Patio | a light that comes on when someone passes, without a cable | solar power, IP65, warm white |
| Living room | a decorative extra that you can move | Art Deco style, beige colourway, dimensions |
| Bedroom | a bedside lamp without a socket | height of 40 to 44 cm, LED base, IP65 |
| Exposed outdoor space | resistance to dust and water spray | IP65 protection rating, plastic and metal |
Do not confuse the families: a designer model for the living room is chosen for its look, a floor lamp on a stand for its accent height, and a designer bedside lamp for the space on the nightstand. A wall light, by contrast, is screwed to the wall and needs wiring: the portable lamp keeps the advantage of mobility.
How do you choose between the Atrium lamp and the Artema lamp?
Both share the same technical base: beige plastic and metal, Art Deco style, solar LED, IP65, warm white between 2700 and 3500 K, the same recommended uses. The choice comes down to the silhouette and a few millimetres of height.
| Model | Dimensions (W x H) | Material | Style and colour | Technology | Protection | Temperature | Recommended uses |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atrium | 27.8 x 40.7 cm | Plastic and metal | Beige Art Deco, ribbed base | Solar LED, LED base | IP65 | Warm white 2700 - 3500 K | Outdoor, patio, living room, bedroom |
| Artema | 27.9 x 44.3 cm | Plastic and metal | Beige Art Deco, oval shade | Solar LED, LED base | IP65 | Warm white 2700 - 3500 K | Outdoor, patio, living room, bedroom |
Atrium, the ribbed base
Its ridged base catches the light and draws a vertical pattern, very readable on a slab or a low wall. At 40.7 cm high, it fits under a railing and stays discreet on a coffee table. See the Atrium solar lamp.
Artema, the oval shade
The rounded shade softens the silhouette and spreads light both up and down. Its 44.3 cm height gives it more presence on the ground, beside a patio armchair. Discover the Artema with oval shade.
Battery or solar motion sensor outdoor lamps?
A battery lamp is chosen on the battery size required and the replacement frequency stated; a solar lamp recharges in daylight and needs no cable. The models in this collection are solar, which removes the question of wiring.
Battery motion sensor outdoor lamps: the points to check
Look at the battery type, the number required and how easy the compartment is to reach: a screwed compartment at the back becomes a nuisance when the lamp sits against a wall. Also check the protection rating, because water gets into poorly sealed hatches. On the decorative side, a modern model for the living room follows the same access rules.
Why solar needs no wiring
No cable to run, no switch to add, no electrician to call to move the lamp three metres. What remains is getting the exposure right: a panel in the shade of an awning recharges poorly. On a patio with trees, the orientation of the panel matters more than the stated power.
How do you match and care for these beige Art Deco lamps on a patio?
Beige and metal go with wood, ceramic and pale textiles without cluttering the patio. IP65 indicates protection against dust and water jets: a soft cloth and a little clean water are enough for routine care.
Cleaning an IP65 lamp without damaging it
Switch it off, wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry. Avoid abrasive sponges on the beige finish and harsh products on the metal. Do not use a high-pressure jet on the seals. A visual check of the solar panel, dusted from time to time, keeps the recharge efficient.
Beige Art Deco: material, colour and size
Beige Art Deco goes with pale woods, rattan and ecru canvas seats. A more graphic interior will go for a black colourway for the living room, or for ceramic table lamps for a craft material. The Nordic style and designer wooden table lamps play the card of restraint, while a designer white colourway brightens a dark living room. For a desk, compare with designer LED lamps and metal models; at the bedside, LED table lamps for the bedroom and linen shades soften the light. A gold and black colourway or crystal table lamps lean more toward a dressed-up evening. And for the whole house, come back to all Designix lights.
Place the lamp, aim it toward the walkway, let solar do the rest: it is the quickest test before equipping another corner of the patio. Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service are there for you if the format does not suit once placed.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most effective outdoor lighting?
The kind that only comes on when it is needed: a light with a sensor avoids lighting an empty patio all night. An LED source in warm white and an IP65 rating suited to outdoor use complete the picture. Effectiveness depends as much on orientation as on technology.
Can you wire 3 lamps to 1 switch?
Yes: three lights wired in parallel on the same circuit turn on and off together from a single switch. Series wiring is not suitable. For solar sensor lamps, the question does not arise, since no wall control is needed.
Do these lamps need an outdoor E27 bulb?
No: the models in this collection are fitted with an LED source with an LED base stated on the product sheet. There is no E27 bulb to buy. The light runs on the stated technology, in warm white from 2700 to 3500 K.
Can you fit an outdoor wall light on a patio?
Yes, provided you drill and plan for wiring or a cable run. A portable sensor lamp stays mobile, moves from a table to a low wall and needs no drilling, which suits a rented or newly fitted patio.
How do you recognise the most beautiful living room lamps?
The choice comes down to coherence: a material and colour that talk to the furniture, a size that is right for the piece it sits on, a warm light. A beige Art Deco model in plastic and metal, 40 to 44 cm high, fits easily into a living room.
