Start by checking the ingress protection rating: IP45 around the basin, IP65 in the shower corner, IP20 on a dry wall. The LED wall lights in this selection are all LED, guaranteed for 2 years, with a G4, G9, E14, E27 or GU10 socket, or an integrated LED, in warm white 2700 to 3500 K or cool white 4500 to 6500 K.

Which LED wall light should you choose for a bathroom?

A bathroom LED wall light is chosen based on its ingress protection rating, then on the material, dimensions and socket. Allow IP45 around the basin, IP65 in the shower area, IP20 on a dry wall. Finally, check the light colour, warm white or cool white.

LED wall lights for bathroom: the criteria that matter

The ingress protection rating comes first: IP20 on a dry wall, IP45 around a water point, IP65 in the shower corner. Then comes the material, metal throughout the selection, glass or acrylic depending on the model. The actual dimensions determine the space available on the wall, and the socket determines the bulb to plan for. The Luminance bathroom ball wall light (metal, glass and iron, G4 socket, IP45, 31.5 x 12 cm) shows how these criteria combine in a single model. To compare styles, browse the selection of designer wall lights shape by shape.

Bathroom wall light fitting: think about the light point

A wall light illuminates a zone, not an entire room. Around the basin, it removes the shadow cast on the face; above the mirror, it frees up the vanity top; in a corner, it serves as additional lighting. To place this wall light in a complete project, all Designix light fittings give the overall view, room by room.

What IP rating for a bathroom wall light?

Most models in this selection are IP20 and are suitable for dry walls, away from water spray. IP45 models are installed around a water point, IP65 in the most exposed locations, including the shower corner. The exact rating is given on each product page.

Wall lights for bathroom: IP20, IP45 or IP65?

IP20 protects against contact and dust, not water: this is the level for a wall away from the shower. IP45 adds resistance to splashes, which corresponds to the area around a basin. IP65 resists water jets, so it is suitable for the shower corner. The rating indicates the protection of the light fitting and nothing more.

Choosing your bathroom LED wall light by location
Location Ingress protection rating Format Light colour
Dry wall, away from the shower IP20 Short wall light, 19 x 15 cm to 41 x 12 cm Warm white 2700 to 3500 K
Around the basin IP45 Ball or tube wall light, 31.5 x 12 cm Warm white or cool white
Shower corner, water spray IP65 Compact wall light, 32 cm Warm white or cool white
WC and small areas IP20 Short format, 19 x 15 cm or 21 cm Warm white
Adjoining corridor IP20 Long wall light, 40 x 10 cm Warm white

Where to prefer an IP65 model over an IP20

In the shower corner and in any location receiving direct splashes, an IP65 model avoids having to move the light point back. Elsewhere, IP20 is enough and opens up more shapes and finishes. Compare in the IP65 wall lights for bathroom. For a wall near the bathtub, also look at the IP44 models near the water point.

What light for a bathroom: warm white or cool white?

Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, dominates the selection and suits both the bath and the WC. Cool white, from 4500 to 6500 K, lights more sharply in front of a mirror. Neutral white, between 3500 and 4500 K, sits in the middle. Several models combine two temperatures.

Light colour: matching it from room to room

Using the same temperature from one room to another avoids two conflicting ambiances. The logical continuation of a warm white bathroom is through the LED wall lights for bedroom, where this register remains the most common. The same logic applies to lighting the living room with LED wall lights, with a warm white that extends that of the bathroom.

Cool white in front of the mirror, warm white for the evening

In front of the basin, a cool white of 4500 to 6500 K makes facial contours sharper in the morning. For a bath or a night-time visit, a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K is easier on the eye. The Lumière Céleste glass and iron globe wall light (G9 socket, IP20, 41 x 12 cm) offers these two temperatures in a single light fitting.

How to light a bathroom mirror with an LED wall light?

On either side of the mirror, two slim wall lights diffuse side light that limits shadows on the face. Above, a short model is suitable for narrow walls. In the selection, some models measure 40 x 10 cm or 41 x 12 cm, to compare with the width of the mirror.

LED wall light bathroom mirror: one or two light points?

Two wall lights on each side give symmetrical light, the most comfortable for shaving or applying make-up. A single wall light above provides adequate lighting and requires fewer drill holes, provided you choose a format long enough to cover the width of the mirror. The Luminéa Chic corridor wall light (metal, glass, acrylic, G4 socket, IP20, 40 x 10 cm) corresponds to this horizontal installation.

Height and alignment: base it on the eye line, not the mirror

Align the wall light with eye level rather than the edge of the mirror: the light falls on the face and not above the head. In general, the source is placed at eye level or slightly above, and a few centimetres from the edge to avoid direct reflection. Also check the projection, useful for an adjustable model such as the Wiye adjustable wall light (GU10 socket, dimmer compatible).

Can you install a wireless LED wall light in a bathroom?

Yes, wireless LED wall lights exist for walls without a power supply. The models in this collection are mains-connected: they work with a G4, G9, E14, E27 or GU10 socket, or with an integrated LED. This point should be checked before drilling.

Wireless LED wall light bathroom: in which cases

A standalone model is justified on an already tiled wall, in a rental property, or in a recess without a power supply. Elsewhere, mains connection remains simpler to use: no battery to recharge, no limited autonomy. Standalone models can be found in the wireless LED wall lights.

Connection: what the product page says

The stated socket says it all: G4 and G9 are small pin sockets, E14 and E27 screw in, GU10 clips in. The mention of integrated LED means the source is built into the light fitting and cannot be replaced. Read this line before buying: it determines the bulb to plan for and the type of wall connection.

What light fitting for a WC or a small bathroom?

For a WC or a small bathroom, a compact wall light frees up the wall and floor: models of 19 x 15 cm or 21 cm wide are suitable for narrow surfaces. An E14 socket or an integrated LED is enough, preferably in warm white.

Wall light or LED ceiling light in a damp room?

The wall light illuminates a specific area and leaves the floor free, which matters in two square metres. The ceiling light provides general lighting, useful if you need to see the whole room. In a small bathroom, a compact wall light is often enough: browse the selection of light fittings for WC, designed for these short spaces.

Small area: short format and directed light

A single light point is generally enough under five square metres. The Lumière Dorée wall light (19 x 15 cm, E14 socket, IP20, warm white or cool white) illustrates this short format, to be placed above the mirror or as a side wall light. A 21 cm wide wall module, such as the Éclat Naturel wood ball wall light (G9 socket, IP20), also fits on a narrow wall.

How to install and maintain a bathroom wall light?

Install the wall light on a dry wall, away from direct water spray, and switch off the power before any connection. For maintenance, a soft cloth is enough: glass and metal can be cleaned without abrasive products, acrylic can be dusted dry. The Designix guarantee is 2 years on the selection.
