For a living room, allow one fabric wall light per area to be lit, and check three things before buying: the socket, the projection from the wall and the finish of the fitting. This collection combines a textile shade with a frame in metal, aluminium, steel or glass, with E14 or E27 sockets or an integrated LED in warm white.

Which fabric wall lights should you choose for a living room?
A fabric wall light spreads soft light upwards or downwards without taking up floor space. An E14 model such as Aveline or Albus, or the Sylvene LED wall light in warm white, lights a reading corner above a sofa or a bookcase.
Cylindrical shade or large arc: what effect above a sofa?
A cylindrical shade throws even light above and below on the wall. The Aveline wall light with its cylindrical shade, 15 cm wide and 42 cm high, sits just above an armrest without eating into the wall. A large arc lights a wider area: the Solyn wall light and its large arc 60 cm in diameter suits a clear stretch of wall, above a bookcase or a desk. The first model concentrates the light, the second spreads it.
One or two light points along the living room wall?
One point is enough for a two-seater sofa. Beyond that, two wall lights about a metre apart, or one on each side of the sofa, avoid a dark patch in the middle of the wall. Measure the length of the furniture, then space them out: the aim is to light reading and seating, not to double the light from the ceiling. Browse the wall lights for the living room to compare formats, and look through our full wall lighting range if you also need a ceiling light or a table lamp to match.
How do you light an adult bedroom with fabric wall lights?
In an adult bedroom, two wall lights either side of the bed replace bedside lamps and free up the nightstand. Fabric shade models such as Aveline, Albus or Meridia are fixed to the wall; the Ondette wall light, with its 100 cm textile cable, adjusts in height for reading.
White fabric wall light or pleated shade: which tone above a bed?
A white or ivory textile shade softens the light and avoids a bright spot in your eyes when you are lying down. The Albus wall light pairs a gold frame with a white fabric shade, 18 cm wide and 30 cm high. A pleated shade, like the one on the large Solyn wall light, gives a more enveloping light and already includes a warm white source, with no visible bulb.
What height and what cable for reading in bed?
Fit the wall light at shoulder height when seated, around 1 m to 1.10 m from the floor depending on the height of the mattress, so the shade stays above the book. The Ondette wall light with textile cable makes adjustment simple: its arm and 100 cm cable let you move the light point up or down without drilling again. For a bedroom, also compare the bedside lighting models for an adult bedroom.
Hallway, staircase, entrance: where should a fabric wall light go?
In a hallway or stairwell, the fabric wall light illuminates the route without cluttering the floor. The Ondette wall light, with its arm and 100 cm textile cable, is fitted high up on a staircase, while the small Sylvene or Meridia formats punctuate a hallway.
What fixing height on a staircase or stairwell?
As a rule, hang the wall light about 90 cm above the nose of the step, offset by one step in two to avoid dark patches at the foot. For a hallway, the same logic applies between 1.70 m and 2 m from the floor, above eye level. A shallow model such as the Ondette wall light (8 cm deep) does not stick out into the walkway. See the hallway wall lights and the staircase lighting options.
Can you light an entrance and a dining room with the same model?
Yes, as long as you repeat the same model. The Ondette wall light is listed for the bedroom, living room, hallway, entrance and dining room: it is the most versatile in the selection. Repeating a single shape from one end of the ground floor to the other keeps things consistent, especially when both rooms are visible in a row.
E14, E27 or integrated LED: which should you choose?
The socket determines the bulb and the effect. E14 models such as Aveline, Albus, Contem and Meridia are listed for 40 W and take compact bulbs. Ondette and Solyn use E27, which is more generous. Sylvene includes a 13 W LED in warm white, with no bulb to buy.
What bulb wattage for an E14 wall light?
An E14 socket takes compact bulbs, often in a small format with a slim cap. The four E14 models in the selection are listed for 40 W: enough to cover a reading corner or a hallway. Choose a bulb with a warm colour temperature to stay in keeping with the textile shade, and check that the globe fits under the shade before screwing it in.
E27 socket: what extra options does it give?
The E27 cap takes wider bulbs that are easier to replace, including connected or dimmable versions. The Ondette wall light is listed for 15 W and the Solyn wall light for 40 W. These E27 socket models leave the choice of bulb open depending on the light you want.

Which size of fabric wall light for which wall?
It all depends on the wall. A small format 13 to 15 cm wide, such as Sylvene or Aveline, suits a narrow wall or the space between two doors. A large arc 60 cm in diameter, such as Solyn, fills a clear stretch of wall above a sofa or a desk.
How do you read the dimensions of a wall light?
Three measurements matter: width, depth, meaning the projection from the wall, and height. Depth decides the real space needed. The Sylvene wall light projects 16.7 cm, the Aveline wall light 20 cm. Measure with a tape from the wall, not from a door frame, before drilling. Also compare the models designed for small spaces and cloakrooms.
Does a wall light 26 cm deep get in the way of furniture or a walkway?
Yes, that is the most generous measurement in the selection: the Contem wall light projects 26 cm from the wall. Above a chest of drawers or a shelf, it can reach past the first object placed there. In a narrow hallway, favour a projection of 8 to 20 cm. Place the Contem on a clear wall, or above a low piece of furniture.

Art deco, art nouveau or high-end design wall lights: which style should you choose?
Art deco plays with geometry and gold finishes, art nouveau with plant-like curves. In this fabric selection, it is the gold, silver and brass finishes with black details, and the round or ring shapes, that give this refined look, paired with textile shades.
Antique art deco wall light: how do you recognise one?
An antique piece is recognisable by its cast metal frame, its stepped or fan-shaped lines, and a shade that has often been replaced. Period finishes are patinated, rarely shiny. For a wall with a 1930s feel but no period piece, the retro wall lights and the vintage metal finishes give the same spirit with modern fixings and wiring. The Meridia wall light with black details is a good example.
Which finishes look the most high-end?
Brass with black details, brushed silver and glass paired with textile lift the finish. The Contem wall light combines metal, glass and fabric, a rare combination in a wall light. The gold design finishes suit contemporary interiors that want a bright accent, without a period feel.
How do you install and care for a fabric wall light?
The wall light is fixed to the wall on a mounting box or bracket, then the textile shade is put in place. For care, regular dry dusting is enough: you do not wet a fabric shade. IP20 models are intended for dry rooms, not bathrooms.
How do you clean a fabric shade without staining it?
Switch off the power, remove the shade if the fitting allows, then wipe with a soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush, with no liquid product. For ingrained dust, a light adhesive roller does the job. Wet cleaning leaves rings and distorts the tension of the textile: avoid it.
Can you install a fabric wall light in a bathroom?
Not these models: the whole selection is IP20, a rating that corresponds to a dry room with no water splashes. For a bathroom or outdoors, turn to the wall lights designed for damp rooms and the waterproof outdoor models. The rest of the Designix lighting range covers those rooms.
How do you match gold, black, silver and white finishes in one room?
Gold warms a contemporary interior, black gives structure to an industrial or minimalist scheme, silver stays discreet on a pale wall and white blends into a Scandinavian room. One visible wall light per wall is enough to keep the overall look consistent.
Gold and black: how do you combine them on the same wall?
Gold carries the light, black frames it: combine them in a single model rather than on two neighbouring wall lights. The Meridia wall light, in brass with black details, brings the two together in one piece. To go further, the gold and black wall lights and the black metal finishes show both directions.
Which finish should you choose so you never tire of it?
White and silver age better in a pale interior, gold calls for warm tones around it. For a living area, the Sylvene wall light in gold with its warm white light works on a neutral wall. If you want to adjust the intensity in the evening, look at the dimmable versions: the Solyn wall light is the only one in the selection that accepts a dimmer.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service accompany every order. Choose your socket and your projection, then discover the Sylvene wall light and its warm white light or move on to the full selection to compare the seven models side by side.
Frequently asked questions about fabric wall lights
Which wall light for a staircase?
On a staircase, a fabric wall light illuminates the route without encroaching on the walkway. The Ondette wall light, with its 100 cm textile cable and its arm, adjusts in height along the climb. A small format suits narrow walls.
Art deco and art nouveau wall lights: how do you tell them apart?
Art deco favours geometric lines, gold tones and ring shapes; art nouveau favours curves and plant motifs. In this selection, the gold and brass finishes with black details, with textile shades, give this refined look without a period piece.
What is a high-end design wall light?
A high-end design wall light is recognisable by its materials and finish: metal, aluminium, steel or glass paired with fabric, in gold, silver or black, with considered dimensions such as the large arc of the Solyn wall light. Most models in the selection come with a 5-year guarantee.
Are there wooden wall lights?
This selection is made up of frames in metal, aluminium, steel or glass dressed in fabric, with no wooden parts. If you are looking for a wooden wall light, two collections exist in the house: the design wooden wall lights and the wooden models for the bedroom.
What is the difference between a fabric wall light and an iron-on fabric applique?
A fabric wall light, in lighting, is a wall fitting with a textile shade. An iron-on fabric applique is a sewing piece that you press onto a garment. The two expressions look alike but do not refer to the same object: here, we are talking about wall lights.
