A rope pendant light dresses its shade or frame in a natural weave that filters the light and softens it. Start by checking the fitting, the bulb base and the IP rating: an E27 socket keeps the bulb replaceable, an integrated LED does not, and an IP20 only suits dry rooms.

What is a rope light and what kind of light does it give?
A rope light is a light whose shade or frame is dressed in braided rope. The weave filters and softens the light, creating a warm atmosphere without glare. In this collection, rope combines with metal, wood, aluminium or fabric, with E27, E14, G9 or GU10 sockets or an integrated LED.
The result in a room is a low, enveloping light: warm white bulbs, around 2700 to 3500 K, dominate the selection and suit living spaces. A light rope reflects light better than a dark one, which holds it and makes it softer.
Rope pendant or rope chandelier: what is the difference?
A pendant lights a precise point, above a table or a worktop. A chandelier carries several light points or a wider structure, and lights a whole room. Our Cordalba pendant illustrates the single-point format, while a chandelier spreads light over a larger volume.
Hemp rope, jute rope or raffia: what changes in the result
Hemp and jute give a matte, rustic weave that absorbs light. Raffia, finer and more regular, lets more brightness through and leans vintage. Compare with fabric shades, another light-diffusing material, to place the result before choosing.
Which room to install a rope light in?
Braided rope first goes in the living room, then the bedroom and dining room, often as a pendant above the table. It also appears in the kitchen and in a hallway. For a damp room or outdoors, aim for an IP54 model rather than an IP20.
The collection places the living room in most models, the bedroom in about two thirds, the dining room in six out of ten and the kitchen in nearly half. The hallway stays rarer. These proportions say one simple thing: this is living-room light, not technical light.
Rope ceiling light in the living room, bedroom or hallway
The Circon round ceiling light, in beige rope on a black base, measures 40 cm in diameter and 18 cm high, in E27. It lights wide without taking up volume. This is the format to pick for a living room, bedroom, corridor or hallway where you want general light. To refine, browse the modern living room lights.
Kitchen lights and toilet lights: the points to check
In a kitchen, a pendant above a worktop lights the task, a ceiling light lights the whole room. Avoid leaving rope exposed to steam. For a small space like a toilet, a ceiling light or a small wall light is enough: see the lights for toilets and small rooms selection and the living room LED lighting for the rest of the house. The kitchen is covered by the kitchen lights.
Pendant, ceiling light, wall light or floor lamp: which shape for which use?
A rope pendant lights a precise point, above a table; a round ceiling light spreads widely in a living room or hallway; a wall light frees the floor in a corridor or on a staircase; an arc floor lamp carries light above a sofa or a desk.
| Type | Recommended room | Base or source | IP rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pendant | Dining room, kitchen, living room | E27, G9 or integrated LED | IP20 |
| Round ceiling light | Living room, bedroom, hallway, corridor | E27 | IP20 |
| Wall light | Corridor, staircase, bedroom, hallway | E27 or E14 | IP20 |
| Arc floor lamp | Living room, office | E27 | IP20 |
| Outdoor pendant | Terrace, outdoors | Integrated LED | IP54 |
Rope pendant above the dining room table
A conical or cylindrical shape concentrates light towards the tabletop: this is the right profile above a table. The Cotona pendant, cylindrical with beige rope fringes, is 40 cm in diameter and 27 cm high in E27. Other models wait in the dining room pendants.
Rope wall light for a corridor, staircase or hallway
A wall light dresses a wall and frees the passage: ideal on a staircase or in a narrow corridor. The Tesano wall light, in rope and metal on three tiers, measures 23 by 25 cm in E27. On the floor lamp side, the Tressora reaches 185 cm high for a 175 cm reach, in E27, and accepts a dimmer. Find the other floor lamps.
How to choose a rope light: base, IP rating and light temperature
Three criteria are enough. The base first: an E27 keeps the bulb replaceable, an integrated LED cannot be changed. The IP rating next: IP20 for a dry room, IP54 for a damp room or outdoors. The temperature last: warm white 2700-3500 K dominates the collection and suits living spaces.
| Criterion | Present in the collection | To remember |
|---|---|---|
| Light temperature | Mostly warm white 2700-3500 K | Suits living spaces |
| Base | E27, E14, G9, GU10 and integrated LED | E27 keeps the bulb replaceable |
| Material | Rope, metal, aluminium, wood, fabric | Rope dresses, metal structures |
| Colour | Beige, black, gold, brown, white | Beige and brown match wood |
| Dimmer | Possible on a small share of models | Check bulb compatibility |
| Warranty | 2 years, 3 years or 5 years depending on the model | Read it on the product page |
E27 or integrated LED: which choice for a rope shade?
An E27 socket leaves the choice: you pick the wattage within the stated maximum and the shade, and you replace the bulb if it burns out. An integrated LED fixes the original light and is changed with the light. In a living space where you want to adjust the mood, E27 stays more flexible.
IP20, IP54 or IP65: what it changes for your room
IP20 covers dry rooms. IP54, carried by the Cordalba pendant in braided rope, resists splashes: sheltered terrace, poolside. IP65 is rarer. For a wet room, compare with the bathroom light and the weatherproof outdoor light, without forgetting the pool lighting if the area is exposed.
At what height should a rope pendant be hung?
Above a table, the bottom of the shade is usually set between 70 and 80 cm from the tabletop: high enough to see your guests, low enough for the light to fall on the table. Above a kitchen island, raise it a little to clear the view.
These markers are common practice, not an imposed measurement: adjust to the height of the people and the ceiling. Cut the cable to the length you want before fixing, never after.
Setting the height of a pendant above a table or an island
Measure including the table, then place the bottom of the shade. On an island, a long shape like the Talfryn pendant, 40 cm in diameter for 18 cm high in E27, takes little height and leaves the view clear. For a round table, also see the pendants to hang above a table.
Avoiding cast shadow and glare when seated
Sit down and look: if the bulb is visible from eye level, the shade is too high or too small. A light-diffusing material like braided rope reduces that risk. Also keep enough distance between two pendants so the shadows do not cross.
How to install and care for a rope light?
Switch off the power before any work, check that the support holds the load, then respect the IP rating of the room. Only some models accept a dimmer: confirm it on the product page. For care, a dry cloth or a gentle vacuum is enough, with no wet product on the rope.
The warranty runs from two to five years depending on the model: read it on the product page before drilling. A pendant above a table is fixed into a solid support or a plug suited to the ceiling, and the cable is set before powering up.
Installing a rope wall light: what to plan for
Locate the cable feed, switch off the power at the breaker, then fix the support. The Cordia wall light, 25 cm in E14, goes in a corridor, staircase, bedroom or hallway and lights downwards. A wall light that dresses a wall also changes how a dark room feels.
Cleaning a rope shade without damaging it
Dust dry, with a soft cloth or a soft brush, without rubbing the weave. Water loosens the rope and household products stain it. To change a bulb, switch off the power and wait for the socket to cool.
Modern, bohemian or vintage lights: how to match a rope light?
Braided rope belongs to no single style: in beige or brown it leans bohemian and natural, in black or gold it joins modern and contemporary. To match, pick up the tone of the furniture or the metal frame in the room, then keep a single decorative light point.
The collection leans modern, then contemporary, with bohemian, jungle spirit and industrial as support. The tones follow: beige first, then black, gold, brown and white.
Beige, black, gold or brown: which rope colour to choose?
Beige and brown match wood and rattan, and lighten a small space. Black structures and matches metal. Gold brings a stronger touch. See the beige and cream lights and the copper lights to compare warm finishes, or the black wood lights for a more graphic result.
Rope light with industrial decor or jungle spirit: the pairings that hold
An Enso pendant, conical in rope and fabric, comes in beige, gold and black: in the first case it leans natural, in the other two towards industrial. Under a raffia shade, the jungle spirit works with green and wood. To move away from the classic, look at the pieces with a unique design.
Where to find quality lights?
A quality light is recognisable by its product page: material, dimensions, base, IP rating and light temperature stated, warranty of 2, 3 or 5 years depending on the model. With a serious retailer, you get secure payment, tracked delivery and returns. Designix customer service stays reachable to check a point before ordering.
A search for lighting clearance Lyon or lighting shop Lyon often leads to limited, poorly documented stock. A search for lights Lyon also points to arrivals with no technical sheet. The reliable marker remains the product detail: without dimensions or base, you are buying a photo, not a light.
Buying a rope light online: guarantees, delivery and returns
First compare the high-end pieces and a Fibrina pendant, 40 cm in diameter for 40 cm high in E27, to place a finished model. Then return to the full lighting catalogue and choose by room and base. Budget plays out at equal size and material.
Lighting clearance Lyon and lighting shops: what you will find here
This collection reads like an online aisle: filter by room, by colour, by base. Before confirming, check the IP for your room, the diameter available on the ceiling and dimmer compatibility if you have one. A call or a message to customer service is enough to clear up a doubt about a reference.
Frequently asked questions
How can I make a light myself?
Start from a simple frame, an existing shade or a metal ring, then wind the braided rope around it, gluing each turn. Add an E27 socket, a suitable cable and switch, switch off the power before connecting and keep the assembly for dry rooms.
Rope chandelier: which bulb to choose?
Most models in this collection use an E27 socket, which leaves the bulb free. Choose an E27 bulb within the maximum wattage stated on the product page, preferably warm white 2700-3500 K: the braided rope then diffuses a soft light, without glare.
Which light to choose for a toilet or small washroom?
A round ceiling light or a small wall light works well: the light falls without taking up space in a narrow room. A beige or white rope model brightens a small dark space. Check the base and keep a warm white bulb, more flattering in a small area.
Can a rope light be installed in a bathroom or outdoors?
In a bathroom, you need a model whose IP rating suits the zone, as IP20 is reserved for dry rooms. For a terrace or outdoors, the collection offers braided rope pendants in IP54, designed to resist water splashes. IP65 stays rarer.
Original decorative lights: how to choose a piece that does not look like the others?
You move away from the classic model by playing with shape: round, tube, arc, ball or oval, and with the treatment of the material, braided rope combined with black metal, gold or raffia. One strong piece is enough in a room, otherwise it becomes ordinary.
