Count on a bar slightly shorter than the mirror, a neutral white around 4000 K and a model whose protection rating is stated as suitable for a damp room: these three markers decide comfort. This collection brings together bathroom LED strip lights, slim, to place above a mirror, under a shelf or on the ceiling, wired or rechargeable.

How to choose a bathroom LED strip light

First choose the area to light: above a mirror, the bar stays slim and lights the face without glare; under a shelf or on the ceiling, it can be wider. Then check the length, the light colour and the protection rating stated on the product page, because the room is damp.

Bathroom LED strip light: what it is for day to day

Three uses come up again and again. In front of the mirror, the line of light removes shadows from the face when shaving or applying make-up. Under a wall unit, it lights the vanity top without leaning into the void. In the evening, a discreet bar sets the mood and replaces an over-bright ceiling light. Find all our LED bars here, and more broadly the lighting range.

Bathroom light bar: choosing the right light colour

Around 4000 K, neutral white renders colours without a yellow cast, which helps in front of a mirror. Warm white, between 2700 and 3000 K, suits the evening and small wet rooms better; in the living room it relaxes, while a neutral white renders colours faithfully for reading. Cool white is reserved for LED bars for garages and work rooms.

Where to install a bathroom LED strip light

Three positions come up again and again: above the mirror to light the face, under a shelf or wall unit to light the surface without cast shadow, and on the ceiling for general light. Each area calls for a different fixing and protection rating.

Bathroom mirror LED strip light: the right position

Place the bar above the mirror, high enough for the source to stay out of your field of vision: generally about twenty centimetres above the top edge, or just in front of it. Facing downwards, it lights the face without reflecting the source into your eyes. On a narrow vanity top, a vertical wall light completes the bar. See the Designix lighting range.

Bathroom ceiling LED strip light: lighting the whole room

On the ceiling, the bar takes over from the ceiling light and provides general light. It goes in the centre of the room or along the path, and can serve as a night light. The same principle exists under a base unit or a worktop, in LED bars for kitchens.

What length of LED strip light: 60, 80 or 120 cm?

Length is decided by the width of the mirror or unit to be lit: a bar slightly shorter than the mirror avoids overhang, a longer bar lights a wider area. Measure before choosing between 60, 80 and 120 cm.

Bathroom LED strip light 80 cm: for a single mirror

80 cm matches a single mirror and a classic vanity top: the light covers the area without spilling onto the walls. It is the format that leaves the least shadow when you stand at the centre of the basin. Measure the width of your mirror then take off a few centimetres, and you have your length.

Bathroom LED strip light 120 cm: above a large mirror

120 cm suits a large mirror or two basins: a single bar lights the whole length of the surface. Check the weight and the anchor points before drilling. For a shelf or a small mirror, 60 cm is enough, and remember to locate the socket before fixing.

What length of LED strip light depending on the area to light
Format Where to place it What it lights What to check before buying
60 cm Above a small mirror or a shelf The face and the vanity top over a small area The width of the mirror and the direction of the light
80 cm Above a single mirror or a wall unit A complete vanity area, without cast shadow The fixing and the stated protection rating
120 cm Above a large mirror or two basins The whole length of the surface The weight, the fixing and the power supply
Rechargeable wireless Where no socket is available Extra light above the mirror or in a cupboard The battery life and charging method on the product page
As a ceiling light On the ceiling, in the centre of the room The general light of the room The protection rating suited to humidity

Wireless bathroom LED strip light: how to light without a socket

A rechargeable bar goes where no socket is available: under a shelf, in a cupboard, in front of a mirror, without running a cable. It moves and recharges. Battery life and brightness vary from one model to another, compare the product page of each bar before choosing.

Wireless bathroom LED strip light: rooms without sockets

In an old bathroom, the socket is rarely in the right place. The wireless bar sticks or screws where light is missing, then recharges on a socket in the next room. Under a shelf, in front of a secondary mirror, in a toilet cupboard, it helps without any building work. See the rechargeable LED bars.

Rechargeable or wired: what it changes day to day

A wired model lights continuously, without thinking about the battery, and suits a room used every day. A rechargeable one comes off and moves, but needs regular charging and a cable to store. The two combine well: a wired model at the mirror, cable-free models for extra light.

Is it a good idea to install LED bulbs in the bathroom?

Yes, provided the fitting suits the room: humidity calls for a stated protection rating suited to the area and proper sealing. An LED bulb gives off little heat and uses less than a halogen one. On an LED bar, the lighting is integrated: there is no bulb to change.

LED bulb or integrated LED bar in a damp room

An integrated bar avoids the weak point of an open fitting: no socket exposed to steam, no bulb to change. A ceiling light with an LED bulb remains possible in a well-ventilated room, if the manufacturer states a suitable protection rating. For other rooms, see the lighting for the whole home.

Humidity and steam: what to check

The closer you get to the shower, the higher the protection rating must be: above the mirror or the basin, a stated IP44 is often enough, in the shower volume you look for a higher rating. Also check that the bar is sealed and that the fixings hold up to steam. All our bathroom lighting meets this.

How to install and care for an LED strip light in a damp room

It all depends on the model: screwed, adhesive or magnetic fixing, with or without a power supply to connect. Locate the position of the mirror or unit, clean and dry the surface before fitting. For care, a soft cloth is enough.

Bathroom light bar: preparing the surface

Degrease and dry the wall before sticking, adhesive holds poorly on a dusty or damp surface. For a screw-fixed model, mark the height with a level, mark the holes then fix. If an electrical connection is needed, entrust it to a professional: the rest of the installation needs no special tool.

Cleaning an LED bar without damaging it

Switch the light off, then wipe with a soft cloth, without abrasive product or scouring sponge. A glass cleaner applied to the cloth, never directly on the bar, removes traces of steam and soap. On long lengths, care follows the same steps as for workshop lighting.

What light for a WC or a small wet room?

In a WC, the lighting stays discreet and easy to clean: a slim wall bar above a small mirror, or a compact ceiling light, is enough to light the room. Choose a model suited to humidity and a light that does not hurt the eyes.

WC light: where to place it

In a room without a window, general light comes from the ceiling, in the centre or slightly in front of the mirror. A small bar above the mirror completes the set for the face. For a night light, low intensity avoids waking the whole house.

LED ceiling light or wall bar

The ceiling light lights the whole room at once and suits small spaces. The wall bar takes up less space and frames the mirror area. In a narrow room, combine the two rather than multiplying sources on the ceiling. The LED bars for bedrooms show the same principle in a small space.

And elsewhere in the home: kitchen, bedroom, garage?

The same family of LED bars serves elsewhere: under the wall units of a kitchen, at the head of a bed in a bedroom, on the ceiling of a garage. The principle does not change, only the length, the protection rating and the power supply adapt to the place.

LED chandelier and powerful LED ceiling light in living rooms

In a living room or dining room, height governs everything: above a table, the fitting comes down to light the surface without blocking the view of the guests; a large chandelier is reserved for high ceilings, hallways, living rooms, stairwells. In a bedroom, a discreet light at the head of the bed replaces the bedside lamp.

Modern kitchen decor: highlighting worktops

Under the wall units, a rigid bar draws a clean line and lights the surface without cast shadow: it is the move that structures a modern kitchen decor. For a shower niche or the back of a unit, a strip follows the shape. The detail of the formats can be read in lighting a worktop.

LED bar, strip or classic light: what to choose?
Solution What it gives Where it is most useful Care
Rigid LED bar A clean, framed line of light Above a mirror, under a shelf A soft cloth is enough
LED strip A continuous light that follows a shape Shower niche, back of a unit, corner Depends on the installation and the adhesive
Ceiling light A general light from the ceiling WC, small rooms, rooms without windows A soft cloth is enough
Wall light Vertical lighting near the mirror Narrow vanity top, hallway A soft cloth is enough

Measure your mirror, note the available width and the position of the socket: these three pieces of information are enough to choose between a wired bar and a rechargeable model. This collection has 16 LED bars. Secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and Designix customer service for any question before or after purchase. Frequently asked questions about bathroom LED strip lights

Which LED for a bathroom?

A neutral white, around 4000 K, suits most bathrooms: it renders colours without a yellow cast, which helps in front of a mirror. In a damp room, a fitting whose protection rating is stated as suited to the area is better than an isolated bulb.

Powerful LED ceiling light: useful in a bathroom?

Yes, provided its protection rating is stated as suited to humidity. It provides the general light of the room, while a bar above the mirror lights the face: the two complement each other rather than replace each other.

Powerful LED wall light: how to avoid glare?

Place it to the side rather than in the line of sight and direct its light towards the wall or upwards. In front of a mirror, a bar facing downwards lights the face without reflecting the source into your eyes. Power alone is not enough, orientation is what settles comfort.

Living room chandelier: which model to choose?

In a living room, the choice follows the ceiling height and the floor area: above a table the fitting comes down, in the centre of a living room it stays near the ceiling. If the room is small, several discreet sources are better than one large chandelier.

Dining room chandelier: how to light the table without glare?

Place it above the centre of the table, high enough not to block the view of the guests. A model that diffuses downwards and upwards lights the table while lighting the ceiling, which softens the contrast in the room.

Dining room light: how to match it with the room?

Match the material and shade to those of the table and furniture: wood with wood, black metal with straight lines. The shape follows that of the table, round above a round table, elongated above a rectangular table, with light close to the rest of the home.
