Start by measuring the distance to water: closest to the bathtub or shower, aim for an IP67 rating; around the washbasin, IP44 is enough. This selection brings together globe pendants, spotlights with adjustable spots and models with metal shades, in metal, glass, aluminium or steel, with E27, GU10, G9 or integrated LED sockets.
What is the IP rating for bathroom lights?
The IP rating describes a light's protection against solids (first digit) and then against water (second digit). In a bathroom, it is chosen according to the zone: away from water points IP20 is enough, around the washbasin IP44 is suitable, and you need to go up to IP67 closest to the bathtub or shower.
What is the difference between IP44 and IP67?
IP44 protects against solids over 1 mm and water splashes: this is the level of a washbasin light. IP67 adds dust tightness and resistance to temporary immersion. Between the two, IP65 withstands water jets without immersion. Our IP44-rated selection and the models rated IP65 cover wet zones outside immersion.
IP67 bathroom lights: what exactly does this rating protect?
The 6 seals the light against dust, the 7 protects it from water up to temporary immersion. In practice, an IP67 takes repeated splashes and cleaning the room with plenty of water. It does not become permanently immersible for all that, and the rating says nothing about light quality.
| Rating | Dust | Water | Where to use it in the bathroom |
|---|---|---|---|
| IP20 | No particular protection | No protection | Away from water points, on the room ceiling |
| IP44 | Solids over 1 mm | Water splashes | Around the washbasin and mirror |
| IP65 | Dust tight | Water jets | Shower zone, outside immersion |
| IP67 | Dust tight | Temporary immersion | Closest to the bathtub or shower |
IP67 bathroom lights: in which zones should they be installed?
Above the bathtub or shower, the proximity of water requires the highest rating, up to IP67. Around the mirror and washbasin, an IP44-rated model is perfectly suitable. Elsewhere in the room, an IP20 ceiling light or pendant is enough, provided it stays out of direct splashes.
IP67 bathroom ceiling light: above the shower
In the shower volume, a waterproof ceiling light fixed to the ceiling stays out of reach of hands and direct jets. The black ceiling light with three adjustable spots in plastic and metal is mounted high in this way, with GU10 spots that you direct towards the tray or the wall. Its matt black shade is barely noticeable on the ceiling.
IP67 bathroom lamp: around the mirror
Near the mirror, the light works on the face: a broad light is better than a single point that carves shadows. The Teslinessa globe pendant in metal and glass, rated IP44, is a good example for a washbasin corner, with an E27 socket and dimmer compatible.
| Zone | Recommended type | Key criterion |
|---|---|---|
| Shower and bathtub | Waterproof ceiling light or spotlight | Highest rating, up to IP67 |
| Washbasin and mirror | Short pendant or spotlight ceiling light | Intermediate rating, shadow-free light on the face |
| Central room | Pendant or ceiling light | Shape, material and warm white |
| Toilets | Small ceiling light or adjustable spotlight | Compact size, neutral white |
IP67 bathroom ceiling light, lamp or pendant: which shape to choose?
It all depends on the space available. A ceiling light with adjustable spots lights a room with a low ceiling and is adjusted according to the zone to be highlighted. A short pendant dresses a clear washbasin corner, a globe model in glass and metal diffuses a softer light, and a tube shape stays discreet.
Pendant or ceiling light above the washbasin?
The ceiling light frees the wall and needs only a small suspension height: ideal when the ceiling is low or the mirror already takes up the surface. The pendant, on the other hand, comes down above the counter and brings the source closer to the face. The Veleta ceiling light on a linear bar plays the ceiling card, while a pendant for wet rooms structures a clear corner.
Adjustable spots on a bar: for what use?
A bar with two or three adjustable spots is useful when a single source is not enough: one spot on the mirror, one on the cabinet, one on the floor. This is the case with the Asterion ceiling light and the Veleta model. Adjustment is done at installation, then touched up without tools. These models also work as modern kitchen decor, over a worktop.
Which light colour and power for a bathroom?
The bathroom takes well to a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K, flattering for the complexion and restful in the evening. A neutral white of 3500 to 4500 K is better in front of the mirror, for a sharper rendering. In terms of power, keep moderate lighting on the ceiling and a stronger point above the washbasin.
Warm white or neutral white in front of the mirror?
In front of the glass, a neutral white renders colours more faithfully and makes shaving or applying make-up easier. The rest of the room benefits from staying in warm white for atmosphere. The Iolana globe pendant and the Morvani pendant with metal shade take an E27 socket: it is the chosen bulb that sets the temperature, not the light.
Do you need a dimmable light?
A dimmer lets you go from a working light to a soft atmosphere without changing the bulb. Only a small share of the models in this selection allow it, for example the Teslinessa pendant. This is stated on the product page: also check that the bulb fitted supports dimming.
How to install and maintain a bathroom light?
Fix the light outside water zones, on a sound support, and cut the power before any work. For maintenance, a soft slightly damp cloth is enough on metal, aluminium or glass. Abrasive products should be avoided: they scratch finishes and dull diffusers, without cleaning anything more.
At what height should a bathroom light be placed?
A ceiling light is placed on the ceiling, with no height constraint. A pendant above a washbasin generally comes down around 1.80 to 2 m from the floor, depending on the person's height and the mirror height. Above all, check the adjustable cable length and the clearance above the counter.
Should a light be stripped as you would a piece of furniture?
No. A light in steel, brass or aluminium receives a finish that protects the metal: stripping it means removing that protection and exposing the surface to humidity. A soft sponge and soapy water, then immediate drying, maintain the piece without damaging it.
Light for a toilet or small room: what to choose?
In a toilet, a small ceiling light or an adjustable spotlight is enough: the room is small, the light must stay sharp and the size limited. A round shape in metal or a model with two or three adjustable spots installs without getting in the way, with a neutral white to keep good legibility.
Which light colour in a toilet?
A neutral white around 3500 to 4500 K keeps the room legible and sharp, without the cold effect of a very high white. For a small volume, a single well-directed source is better than multiplied lighting, which clutters the perception of space. Find the compact formats in our selection of toilet lights.
Ceiling light or pendant in a small room?
The ceiling light is essential when the ceiling is low: it does not come down into the field of vision. A pendant remains possible if the height allows, provided it is kept short. The Arilinessa pendant with conical shade in steel, with a GU10 socket, has a maximum height of 120 cm and stays discreet.
Dining room chandelier, living room chandelier: where to place these large lights?
A dining room light, often a chandelier, hangs above the table, at a height that lights the guests without blocking the view. In a living room, a large format or a multi-arm model is preferred, with a warm white and sometimes a dimmer. Sculptural shapes and golden finishes dress high volumes.
Large chandelier for a high ceiling: what height?
Under a high ceiling, the pendant comes down lower without crushing the room, generally around 75 to 85 cm above the table top. A multi-arm or ring model then fills the volume. Our selection of large chandeliers for high ceilings gathers the large formats, and singular shapes can be found among the original lights.
Which light colour for a living room?
In the evening, a warm white remains the most comfortable for a light colour for a living room that is pleasant to live in. Very cold temperatures are better suited to work than to relaxation. A modern dining room chandelier or a large living room format is chosen on the same basis, keeping a single temperature in the room to avoid visible differences.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between IP44 and IP67?
IP44 protects against solids over 1 mm and water splashes, which covers use around the washbasin. IP67 adds dust tightness and resists temporary immersion: this is the rating to aim for closest to the shower or bathtub.
Is an IP67 bathroom ceiling light compulsory above the shower?
No specific model is imposed, but the closer the light is to water, the higher the rating must be. Above a shower or bathtub, choosing an IP67 remains the safest solution; at a distance from splashes, an IP44 is often enough.
Can an IP67 bathroom lamp be installed near the mirror?
Yes, an IP67 model is suitable near the mirror, but it is often bulkier than an IP44. If the light stays out of direct splashes, an IP44 is enough. Above all, check the socket and the light temperature for a pleasant rendering on the face.
How to choose the light colour for a living room and bathroom?
In a bathroom, a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K flatters the complexion and relaxes, while a neutral white of 3500 to 4500 K helps in front of the mirror. For the living room, stay with warm white in the evening, avoiding very cold temperatures.
Toilet light: which solution to choose?
A small ceiling light or an adjustable spotlight is enough in a toilet, where you want a sharp light and a limited size. Round shapes and compact models fit well, with a neutral white that keeps the room legible and easy to maintain.
