To light a patio, place two or three LED patio wall lights along the walls rather than in the centre: one near the door to mark the entrance, one above the dining area, one on a gable or a staircase. Keep the light low and warm, between 2700 and 3500 K, to light faces without dazzling people who are seated.
What is the best lighting for a patio?
On a patio, you light the walls and the walkways first rather than the centre: an LED patio wall light near the door and a second one along the wall are enough for a dining area. The light stays low and warm, without dazzling people who are seated.
Outdoor LED wall light or floodlight: which to choose for a patio wall?
A floodlight sends a wide beam onto the ground and mainly lights the slab. The wall light grazes the facade, draws the wall, sets the door apart and takes up no space on the ground. On a patio where people sit, wall lighting replaces central lighting, and the ground stays in a useful half-light. Aluminium bodies dominate the references in this selection, which limits weight and corrosion.
Applying the right light colour on a patio in the evening
Grazing light changes the wall in the evening: the facade gains relief, the door stands out, faces stay lit without a source in the eyes. Warm white covers almost the whole collection, with cool white variants for entrances and walkways. In terms of formats, the 32 cm Terrano tube light, the 40 cm long Niger, the 30 cm Kalvesano and the Isolea glass sphere cover the usual needs.
| Model | Format | Ingress protection | Light temperature | Power | Recommended use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Terrano | 32 cm tube | IP65 | warm white and cool white | 4 to 12 W | covered or exposed patio wall |
| Cassian | 10 x 10 x 10 cm square | IP44 | warm white or cool white | 6 W | sheltered entrance, door under awning |
| Isolea | glass sphere Ø 20 cm | IP54 | warm white | 8 W | covered patio, soft light |
| Niger | 40 cm long | IP54 | warm white | 10 W | contemporary wall of a sheltered patio |
| Kalvesano | 30 cm rectangular | IP54 | warm white | 20 W | large wall surface to wash |
| Bivira | angled tube, two outputs | IP65 | warm white | 4 W | wide wall, two beams |
How many lumens do you need to light an outdoor space?
We do not publish a lumen value, as it varies from one model and one supplier to another. The wall lights in this selection are rated in watts, from 2 to 20 W depending on the reference, and each one covers a wall, a door or a dining area.
Reading watts rather than advertised lumens
Diffusion matters as much as power. A directed tube concentrates light on a vertical line, a dome or an opal diffuser spreads it widely, clear glass lets through a sharper beam. Two models with identical power therefore do not give the same wash on the wall. Look first at the shape of the housing and the diffuser material, then at power as a consumption guide.
Powerful LED wall light: how far can it light a patio?
In the selection, the 2 W Extara marks a staircase, the Terrano comes in 4 to 12 W over 32 cm, the 12 W Alasamina covers a wall in an oval shape, and the 20 W Kalvesano washes a large surface. The further the source is from the wall, the more the light patch spreads and weakens. For a dining area, two moderate points are better than one very strong one.
Where to install an outdoor wall light on a patio?
Place it near the door to mark the entrance, then along the wall above the dining area, avoiding putting it in the line of sight when seated. A third wall light can highlight a gable or a staircase.
Around the front door and the gate
On either side of the door, two symmetrical wall lights give a readable and welcoming threshold. One point is enough if the wall is short, provided it is offset to the opening side. The Cassian square model in 10 x 10 x 10 cm fits into a small space, just under an awning. For access and the gate, compare with our selection of entrance lighting, designed for walkways.
Along the patio wall and near the staircase
On a long wall, a 40 cm Niger or a 30 cm Kalvesano occupy the width better than a small square. Above a staircase, look for grazing light that marks each step without hurting the eyes: an angled tube or a small low step light works well. The large format above remains reserved for heights and corners, as shown by our designer wall lights for staircases.
Which IP rating should you choose for a patio wall light?
IP44 suits a wall sheltered under an awning, IP54 a covered or partially exposed patio, IP65 and IP67 facades swept by rain and locations near a pool or the sea. Always check the rating on the model sheet.
| IP rating | Where to install it | Associated materials | Maintenance |
|---|---|---|---|
| IP44 | sheltered wall, under awning, covered entrance | aluminium, metal | soft cloth |
| IP54 | covered or partially exposed patio | aluminium, glass, plastic | soapy water, non-abrasive cloth |
| IP65 | facade exposed to rain, poolside | aluminium, stainless steel | rinse with clear water |
| IP67 | highly exposed location | metal, aluminium, acrylic | rinse and check the seal |
Square, tube, round or oval: which shape for which wall?
A square or rectangle structures a bare wall and lights a precise area; a vertical tube underlines a height, a door or a post; a glass sphere or oval diffuses more widely and softens a stone wall. The shape follows the line of the wall.
| Shape | Models in the collection | Light effect | Recommended wall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Square | Cassian, Ylario, Astrum | beam directed up and down | bare wall, entrance |
| Tube | Terrano, Bivira, Extara, ÉclatModerne | vertical line, grazing light | post, corner, height |
| Round and dome | Isolea, Dacio | wide, soft diffusion | stone wall, dining area |
| Oval | Alasamina | elongated wash of light | long wall, under awning |
| Rectangular | Cadea, Noctivia, Kalvesano | wide wall lighting | large facade, covered patio |
Outdoor LED wall lights for a wooden patio
On a wooden board, fix to a stud or an added mounting plate rather than into the board itself: the screw holds better and the wood does not move around the housing. A black or anthracite finish, the most common in the collection, matches dark wood; white brightens light boards. See the black finishes for this type of assembly.
A square model or a tube on a stone or render wall
Stone absorbs light and throws hard shadows: an opal diffuser softens the result, a glass dome lights more widely. On regular render, the square marks a clear geometry and the tube lengthens the facade. The designer patio wall lights play on these material contrasts.
How do you match an outdoor wall light with the inside of the house?
Keep the same colour family, black or white, on both sides of the sliding door, and the same white temperature so the transition between the living room and the patio is not visible. The outside picks up the style of the inside without copying it.
Light colour for living room and patio: keeping the same temperature
Two different whites on the same wall create a visible break as soon as night falls. Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, holds both spaces together. If you are renovating at the same time, take a look at the living room wall lights and align the temperature on both sides.
Living room wall lights and WC lighting: what stays inside
Inside, the wall light lights a wall, a picture or a hallway, while a ceiling light or a chandelier provides general light. For small rooms, a wall light is enough: this is the case for toilet lighting, where the floor must stay clear. Outdoor models, for their part, stay on the facade.
Decor for a modern kitchen open to the patio: where to place the light?
When the kitchen opens onto the patio, wall lighting extends the room: a wall light near the sliding door and a point above the worktop follow the same logic as outside. Our selection of modern kitchen decor and the modern style of facade wall lights respond to each other without breaking the continuity.
How do you install and maintain an outdoor LED wall light?
The wall light is fixed to a flush box or a wall bracket, with a clean seal and stainless steel screws. For maintenance, a soft cloth and soapy water are enough; avoid abrasive products on powder-coated aluminium and glass.
Fixing, drilling and sealing the cable entry
Switch off the power at the circuit breaker before any work. Drill at the housing centres, pass the cable through the provided cable gland, and leave the seal in place: it is the seal that provides waterproofing, not the screws. Stainless steel screws are essential by the sea, as on the waterproof models for exposed facades. In terms of equipment, the IP65 references withstand direct rain.
Cleaning an aluminium or glass wall light without damaging it
A soft damp cloth is enough most of the time; mild soapy water removes stubborn marks. No abrasive sponge, no solvent on powder-coated aluminium, no scraper on glass. After winter, check the seal and rinse with clear water on IP65 and IP67 models. Integrated LEDs cannot be replaced; only a few models with E27 or G4 sockets allow it. Our outdoor LED wall lights and the rest of our range of light fittings follow this simple maintenance logic.

Warm white or cool white for a patio?
Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, is the majority in the collection: it gives a welcoming patio without harshness. Cool white, between 4500 and 6500 K, remains useful for an entrance, a walkway or a staircase where you want to see clearly.
Warm white 2700-3500 K for a relaxed patio
This is the temperature that tires the eye least in the evening and makes conversation easy. It covers nine out of ten references in the selection. Neutral white, around 3500 to 4500 K, exists but remains rare here. For a dining area or an outdoor living room, stay in this range, as with our patio wall lighting.
Cool white 4500-6500 K for an entrance and a walkway
On a staircase, a gate or an outdoor corridor, cool white makes steps and obstacles more readable. A few models offer both temperatures as an option, and the dimmer is fitted to only a small part of the references. The Lumenza LED tube comes in several lengths and several whites, and the motion sensor version controls the switching of walkways. For indoors, also look at the modern wall lights for hallways and the LED wall lights for bathrooms.
Frequently asked questions about outdoor LED wall lights for patios
Powerful LED wall light: which power should you choose for a patio?
On a patio wall, a 6 to 12 W wall light comfortably lights a dining area, while a 20 W model washes a large wall surface. Diffusion matters as much as power: an opal diffuser or a dome spreads light better than a directed tube.
Can you fit an outdoor LED wall light on a wooden patio?
Yes: fix the wall light to a stud or an added support rather than into a board, and leave a clean seal between the housing and the wood so water does not stagnate. A black or anthracite finish matches wood, white most often matches light boards.
Can a powerful LED ceiling light or an LED chandelier light a covered patio?
Under a covered patio, an LED ceiling light lights the table, but it must be designed for outdoor use and humidity. Wall lights light the walls and the walkway without adding a point on the ceiling, and remain visible when seated.
Which light colour for a living room or a patio in the evening?
In the evening, stay with warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K: it is the most represented temperature in the collection and the one that tires the eye least. Cool white is reserved for entrances and walkways.
Which light fitting for a WC and which WC decor should you choose?
In the toilet, a wall light is enough: it lights the wall without taking up space and leaves the floor clear. Choose a simple model, in keeping with the taps and the black wall lights for bathrooms, and keep outdoor wall lights for the patio and the entrance.
