First, count the free space on the worktop: a square base of 15 to 25 cm per side fits almost anywhere, while a large base needs more clearance. Then check the socket on the product page, E27 for a standard bulb, G9 or GU10 for a tighter beam, and the head orientation if you need to direct the light onto a keyboard.

Contents: choosing your desk lamp, task lighting, bulbs and sockets, where to place it, comparisons, installation and care, budget and warranty.

Which metal desk lamp should you choose for your office?

For a desk, look first at the footprint of the base on the worktop, then at the height of the arm or shade. An adjustable arm in steel or black metal lets you direct the light onto the keyboard or a document without shining it straight at the screen.

Metal desk lamps for a work office: which format should you choose?

On a narrow desk, a compact model keeps room for your hands and papers. The Lentia, with its adjustable tube arm, measures 20 cm wide by 43 cm high: the tube turns towards the document. The Saffira shares this size with a base that tilts downwards, handy for lighting a keyboard without rising high. Conversely, the Noxid (45 cm high, rectangular frame) and the Cortessa (51 cm) make a stronger statement and suit a large desk. The Ventura, 15 cm per side and 31 cm high, remains the most discreet.

Metal desk lamps for a designer office: which finish?

Black metal dominates this selection and blends into a dark desk. Brushed steel reflects a lighter tone, as on the Anelo II LED ring. Brass and gold warm up the room (Diabola, Talvo), while wood, bamboo and cork bring a matte texture, on the Cortessa and its cork shade or on the Ulfric in bamboo.

To compare shapes, browse the designer desk lamps and their adjustable versions.

What light should you choose for working and reading at your desk?

For reading and working, you need light that falls on the worktop without dazzling. Some models in the collection are warm white (2700 to 3500 K), with a shade or reflector that concentrates the beam. A dimmer lets you lower the intensity in the evening.

Which light colour for the living room?

Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, gives a soft rendering that suits the living room as well as the bedroom in the evening. On a desk, keep this tone and gain intensity with a more powerful bulb or a dimmer, rather than with a very cool light. The designer living room lamps and the models designed for a bedroom follow this logic.

Adjustable lamp or fixed shade: which light for the desk?

An adjustable head concentrates the light where you read or write, leaving the rest of the room in a restful half-light. A fixed shade, dome or cylinder shaped, diffuses more widely: ideal as an accent on a shelf or near an armchair. On some models, a gold reflector sends the light downwards and limits glare, as on the Talvo.

Which bulb and socket for a metal desk lamp?

The socket depends on the model: E27 for standard bulbs, G9 for small volumes, GU10 for a directed beam, E14 for compact shades, integrated LED when the bulb cannot be replaced. Check the socket on the product page before buying your bulb.

E27 or G9 socket: how do you choose?

The E27, the most common, accepts a wide range of bulbs and is easy to replace: it is found on the Cortessa, Norsk, Noxid, Ventura, Lunlinina and Woody. The G9 equips slimmer lights, such as the Eirlys, Solvind and Lentia: the volume of the bulb disappears behind the shade. The GU10 serves a directed beam (Saffira, Diabola), and the E14 is reserved for small diameters such as the Ulfric.

Can you fit an LED bulb in every model?

Wherever the socket is standard, E27, G9, GU10 or E14, an LED bulb of the same socket fits without modification. It heats less and consumes less than an incandescent one. On the Anelo II, the LED source is integrated: it cannot be replaced. Remember a dimmable bulb if your lamp has a dimmer.

These references appear in the LED models for the office and in the designer LED selection.

Where should you place a metal desk lamp in the home?

These lamps work as well on a desk as on a living room table, a bedside table, a hallway shelf or a console. On a kitchen worktop, favour a compact format. All are intended for dry indoor use.

How do you integrate a metal lamp into a modern kitchen decor?

On a worktop, the lamp should stay low and narrow so it does not get in the way. The Saffira (19.5 cm wide) and the Lunlinina (13 cm) fit on a return or a shelf, with a slim stem and, for the first, a base that tilts downwards. Black metal or steel responds there to a modern kitchen decor made of straight lines and light surfaces. Two points to check: the length of the cable to the socket, and proximity to water, since these models are rated IP20.

Can a metal bedside lamp serve as a desk lamp?

Yes, as soon as the base fits on the worktop and the head can be adjusted. Many models in this selection are intended for the office, bedroom and living room alike: the format is what decides. A tall lamp such as the Norsk (55 cm) or the Cortessa (51 cm) reads better from a bed, while a low format lights a keyboard without casting a shadow. See the black metal bedside models and the Scandinavian style lamps.

Which metal desk lamp for which room?

Two reference points help you decide: the free space on the furniture and the type of bulb. Compact formats, around 13 to 25 cm wide, suit small surfaces; tall models, from 39 to 55 cm, structure a bedside table or a living room corner.

Compare the formats, sockets and wattages of the collection

Formats, materials and sockets of some metal desk lamps
Model Material Socket Wattage Format Rooms
Cortessa Metal, cork shade E27 40 W H 51 cm Office, living room, bedroom
Talvo Metal, gold reflector E27 40 W H 27.3 cm x W 20.9 cm Office, living room, bedroom
Lentia Steel G9 8 W W 20 x D 14 x H 43 cm Office, hallway, entrance
Saffira Steel GU10 10 W W 19.5 x D 14.5 x H 43 cm Office, kitchen, living room
Anelo II Brushed steel Integrated LED 5 W 75 cm / 170 cm Office, living room, bedroom
Ventura Steel E27 15 W W 15 x D 15 x H 31 cm Office, living room, bedroom

The format column should be read above all as a space constraint: measure the depth of the furniture, then compare.

Choosing your model according to the room

Kitchen A compact format near the worktop Saffira, Lunlinina IP20 rating: dry indoor use only

The black desk lamps and the models for a modern style office overlap with several rows of these tables.

How do you install and care for a metal desk lamp?

The models in this selection rest on a base, a stem or a frame: none clamps on. If you are looking for a clamp on a worktop, compare the footprint of the base with the free space. For care, a soft dry cloth is enough on the metal.

Metal desk lamp with a clamp: what is the solution?

No reference in this selection clamps on. Two options remain: choose a model with a wide, stable base that does not slip when you adjust the head, or move the furniture to free up the space needed. The Woody, with its scissor arm and 23 cm round base, fills the role of a movable lamp without clamping.

How do you clean a metal lamp and its shade?

Unplug the lamp and let the bulb cool. On steel, black metal or brass, use a soft dry cloth, without abrasive products. On a wood, bamboo or cork shade, a slightly damp cloth then immediate drying. Do not dismantle the reflector and never immerse any part in water.

For coloured finishes, see the white and bright models, the gold and black colours and the linen table lamps.

What budget and warranty for a metal desk lamp?

The most affordable models rely on a standard socket and a simple base; the more elaborate pieces use brass, wood or a signature shape. The warranty is two years on most references and five years on part of the selection.

Affordable models or exceptional pieces: how do you tell them apart?

An E27 socket with a simple metal base gets straight to the point and accepts all standard bulbs. A more elaborate piece is recognisable by its finish (brass, gold, cork, bamboo), its shape (ring, scissors, dome) and sometimes a built-in dimmer. The price is shown on the collection grid, updated daily.

What does the warranty cover?

The warranty covers the operation of the light for two years on most references, and up to five years on part of the selection. It does not cover bulb wear, which is a consumable part, nor damage related to outdoor or damp room use, since these lamps are rated IP20.

To choose, first compare the format with the available space, then the socket with the bulb you already have. The full catalogue is in our lighting collection, with a dedicated section for modern black table lamps and crystal table lamps if you are looking for another material register.

Frequently asked questions about metal desk lamps

How do you connect several lamps to a single power supply?

A table lamp plugs into a socket, not directly into the fixed circuit. To group several on the same supply, use a power strip or a socket block, checking that the total wattage of the bulbs stays within the limits of the socket and the cable.

Can you install an IP20 table lamp in a toilet or bathroom?

No. The models in this collection are rated IP20, which corresponds to dry indoor use, protected from water splashes. In a toilet or bathroom, you need a light intended for damp rooms, not a standard table lamp.

How do you choose between a black metal, steel or brass lamp?

Black metal absorbs light and stays discreet on a desk; brushed or silver steel reflects a lighter tone; gold brass warms the room and makes an industrial or contemporary statement. The choice depends above all on the finish of the furniture the lamp sits on.

Should you choose a metal desk lamp with a dimmer?

A dimmer is useful if the same lamp is used for working during the day and for creating an atmosphere in the evening. Some models in this selection have one. Otherwise, a dimmable bulb or a less powerful model serves the same purpose.

How do you care for a metal desk lamp?

Dust with a soft dry cloth, without abrasive products, on steel, black metal or brass. For a wood, bamboo or cork shade, a slightly damp cloth is enough, then dry. Unplug the lamp before handling and let the bulb cool.

For task lighting, start with the designer desk lamp selection or the full range of Designix lights, then refine by socket and format.

Our advice for choosing
Metal table lamps for the desk combine bases in steel, black metal, brass or wood, with or without an adjustable arm. Designed for indoor use (IP20), they light up a work surface, a bedside table or a living room corner.
