An industrial wooden pendant light combines a wooden shade, whether solid, openwork, slatted or dome-shaped, with a metal, steel or brass frame, most often with an E27 socket. Allow 75 to 85 cm between the bottom of the shade and the top of a dining table: that is the first measurement to settle on, before even choosing a model.

What is an industrial wooden pendant light?

An industrial wooden pendant light brings together a wooden shade, often openwork or built from slats, and a metal, steel, iron or brass frame, with a ceiling rose and textile cable. In this selection, every reference is IP20 and most run on LED: they light a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen or a hallway. The shapes recorded range from round to dome, from tube to oval and ball, with diameters from 11.5 to 42 cm.

Why do wood and metal go together in an industrial interior?

Metal alone throws back a hard light. Wood absorbs part of it and gives it back warmer, which softens an workshop-style decor without distorting it. That is the whole principle of the wood and metal selection: the structure keeps the industrial character, the shade warms the result. Celesse (Ø 40 cm), Mavelle (L 41 cm) and Galenia (Ø 21 cm) play the wood card only.

Industrial wooden or glass pendant light: what are the differences?

Glass lets all the light through and casts sharp reflections, wood filters it and diffuses it more gently. Canardi (duck-egg blue glass on a metal dome) and Ulric (black dome, silver chain) give a direct light, aimed downwards. For a softer result, look at the pieces combining glass and wood, or a 100% wood model. A look through all our pendant lights and ceiling lights helps compare the two families.

Which industrial wooden pendant light for which room?

The living room and dining room call for a wide shade, 30 to 42 cm, that lights the table without dazzling. In the kitchen, a closed shape or a dome gathers less dust. In the bedroom, a compact, low model with adjustable cable height is more than enough. The living room, bedroom, kitchen and dining room are the best covered rooms in this selection, ahead of the hallway and corridor.

Which industrial wooden pendant light by room
Room What matters Suitable shape or material Socket and light recorded
Living room Large diameter, soft light Dome 40 to 42 cm, slatted shade E27 socket, warm white 2700 to 3500 K
Dining room Light aimed at the table Dome 30 to 42 cm, wood and metal E27 socket, warm white
Kitchen Easy to clean, direct light Closed dome, tube, conical shade E27 or GU10 socket
Bedroom Low light, no glare Ball, tube, compact shape E27 socket, warm white
Hallway and corridor Narrow format, good diffusion Tube, rectangular frame, cylinder E27 socket

Which wooden pendant light for a living room or dining room?

Aim wide: Celesse (Ø 40 cm, cable height up to 110 cm) and Mavelle (L 41 cm by D 41 cm) cover a table of six. Albira and Dualia, at 30 cm, suit a narrower dining corner or a small living room. To narrow it down, browse the models dedicated to lighting a living room with wood.

Which wooden pendant light for a bedroom, kitchen or hallway?

In the bedroom, look for a compact, low shape: the models designed for the bedroom fit in a small space. In the kitchen, a tube or a closed dome wipes clean in one go, like the wooden kitchen pendant lights. For a hallway or corridor, a narrow frame like Arielle (L 8 cm) slips in anywhere.

Openwork shade, dome, tube or ball: which shape to choose?

The shape decides the result. A dome directs light downwards, perfect above a table. An openwork shade, in slats or a tube, filters it and casts soft shadows on the wall or ceiling. A ball or an oval diffuses widely, in all directions.

Light output by shade shape
Shape Light output Materials recorded Examples from the collection
Dome Light aimed downwards, little glare Metal, glass, wood Canardi, Ulric, Celesse
Tube or cylinder Tight beam, above a surface Wood Quenara, Lignis, Galenia
Openwork, slats, perforated Filtered light, soft shadows Wood, metal, steel Mavelle, Albira, Dualia
Ball or oval Wide, symmetrical diffusion Metal, wood, linen, acrylic Briello, Brivelle

Dome, tube or openwork: which shade for which light?

The closed dome (Canardi, Ulric) concentrates the flow under the fixture: ideal above a worktop or a table. The tube and the cylinder (Quenara, Lignis, Galenia) tighten the beam further. Openwork and perforated (Mavelle, Albira, Dualia) let a soft light through and draw a pattern on the ceiling. The more graphic pieces play on these cut-outs.

A round or oval pendant light above a rectangular table?

Both work. An oval like Brivelle (24 cm by 40 cm) follows the length of the table and covers it more evenly; a round one like Quenara (Ø 30 cm) marks a central point. On a very long table, two aligned round pendant lights are better than a single large oval. A lighter Scandinavian feel favours simple shapes and pale wood.

What light does an industrial wooden pendant light give?

The colour temperatures recorded in this selection range from warm white 2700 to 3500 K, the most common, to neutral white and cool white on a few models. The wattages recorded range from 5 W to 40 W. Most references run on LED and a large share of the models, with an E27 socket, take a screw-in bulb; only the GU10 and G9 references use another socket type, and few models accept a dimmer.

Warm, neutral or cool white: which colour temperature?

Around 2700 to 3500 K, the light leans yellow: that is the right choice for a living room, a bedroom or a dining room, especially on brown wood. Neutral white, around 3500 to 4500 K, stays readable on a worktop. Cool white, beyond that, gives a more technical result, rarely associated with wood. The LED versions fix that temperature at manufacture, with no bulb to change.

Is a dimmer useful on a dining room pendant light?

Yes, if the room also serves as an office or a living room in the evening. Few models offer a dimmer: Briello and Galene are among them, and the dimmer references are controlled from a compatible switch. Without a dimmer, the mood is set with several light points rather than with intensity.

At what height should a pendant light hang above a dining table?

Allow 75 to 85 cm between the bottom of the shade and the tabletop: the light falls on the plates without staying in the eyes of seated guests. The pendant lights in this selection offer 107 to 150 cm of cable height depending on the model (Quenara 107 cm, Celesse and Mavelle 110 cm, Canardi 150 cm), which leaves room after installation. Adjustment is done by shortening the cable, once the ceiling rose is fixed to the ceiling.

Industrial chandelier or wooden pendant light: which to choose for a large room?

A large industrial chandelier multiplies the light points and suits a large room or a tall space, a double-height living area or an old workshop. A wooden pendant light plays the single-point card, set lower, above a table, an island or in a hallway. Galene, with its three golden cones on a black bar, sits between the two approaches.

Large industrial chandelier or pendant lights aligned above an island?

Over a kitchen island, two or three aligned pendant lights light better than a central chandelier, because the light falls straight onto the worktop. A large industrial chandelier keeps the advantage in a room with high volume, where it fills the vertical space. Compare with the all-metal pendant lights if wood is not your material.

Several small pendant lights or a single one above a table?

Up to six place settings, a single pendant light of 30 to 42 cm is enough. Beyond that, two light points evenly spaced avoid shadowy areas at the ends. The gap is worked out by dividing the table length by the number of pendant lights plus one. Albira and Dualia, at 30 cm, lend themselves well to this repetition.

Pale wood, white or black: which finish to match?

Wood pairs with black, grey, silver or golden metal. In this selection, brown and white dominate, followed by black and grey, with a few silver and gold touches. Pale wood brightens a dark room; a white or black shade blends into an already busy decor.

Pale wood, white or black: which colour for the room?

Boiselle (pale wood sleeve, grey conical shade) and Lignis (pale wood, round base) lighten a room with a low ceiling. The white finish of Albira or Dualia stands out on a dark wall. Black fades into a light interior: for a bedroom, see the black models.

How to match the pendant light to the other materials in the room?

Note the dominant tone of the handles, the worktop or the furniture legs, then pick it up on the fixture frame. A golden brass like on Galene wakes up a neutral kitchen. To go further, look at the pieces where wood meets metal or the modern LED pendant lights.

How to install and care for a wooden pendant light?

All these pendant lights are IP20: they are fitted in dry interiors, with no direct exposure to water. The ceiling rose is fixed to the cable outlet, the height is adjusted once the fixture is in place, and regular dusting is enough. The warranty runs from 2 to 5 years depending on the model.

How to fix a wooden pendant light to the ceiling?

Cut the power, fix the ceiling rose to the existing cable outlet, then connect according to the intended socket. Then adjust the cable length before locking it. A compact model like Briello (Ø 11.5 cm, 150 cm cable) or Kallinara (ceiling rose Ø 10 cm) is easy to handle once the power is off.

How to care for a wooden shade?

An openwork, slatted or perforated shade holds dust: run a soft cloth or a soft brush over it once a month. On wood, no abrasive product or soaking sponge, a barely damp cloth is enough. The textile cable is dusted the same way, without rubbing.

Technical markers for a few models in the collection
Model Material Socket Dimensions recorded Wattage recorded
Albira Wood, metal, steel E27 30 cm 15 W
Celesse Wood E27 Ø 40 cm, max height 110 cm 15 W
Mavelle Wood E27 L 41 cm, D 41 cm, max height 110 cm 15 W
Ulric Glass, metal E27 Ø 32 cm, max height 130 cm 40 W
Briello Metal, wood, iron, linen E27 Ø 11.5 cm, 150 cm cable 5 W, dimmer
Galene Metal, brass, solid wood, iron E27 Ø 22 cm, H 17 cm, base 10 cm 24 W, dimmer

These dimensions are enough to decide between two models: measure the width of your table or island before confirming. Once the size is chosen, Celesse or Mavelle play the part of the large shade, Albira and Dualia that of the 30 cm format, and Quenara or Lignis that of the tight tube. For a single light point in a hallway, Arielle and its rectangular base take up little space.

Frequently asked questions

Industrial chandelier or wooden pendant light: what is the difference?

An industrial chandelier gathers several light points on one structure, often in metal, and takes up a large volume. A wooden pendant light generally relies on a single shade and hangs above a table, an island or in a hallway. The two families overlap, Galene is the example with its three cones.

What is an industrial-style chandelier?

It is a fixture inspired by workshops and factories, recognisable by its metal or steel structure, its dome, cage or tube shapes, and its black, grey or silver tones. Wood can complete the shade or the ceiling rose, which softens the result without changing the character of the room.

Large industrial chandelier: which room to choose it for?

A large industrial chandelier is justified in a tall space or a very large room, where a single light point would look lost. Above a table, an island or in a hallway, a wooden pendant light of 30 to 42 cm lights closer and adjusts in height, between 107 and 150 cm of cable depending on the model.

E27, GU10 or G9 socket: what is the difference for a pendant light?

The E27 socket, the most common here, takes most screw-in bulbs and is easy to replace. The GU10 clips in and is found more on directed shapes, like Flamma or Lignis. The G9 is reserved for thin, closed diffusers, Brivelle for example. The socket decides the bulb, not the quality of the lighting.

Can a wooden pendant light be installed in a damp room?

All the pendant lights in this collection carry an IP20 rating: they are protected against contact and dust, but not against water splashes. They are therefore intended for dry rooms: living room, bedroom, kitchen, dining room, hallway, corridor, office or workshop.

Should you choose an LED pendant light or a bulb pendant light?

Most models in the collection run on LED. A few references are fitted with a screw-in bulb, which allows the colour temperature or wattage to be changed to suit the use. Only a few models accept a dimmer, to be controlled from a compatible switch.

One last point before confirming: note the width of your worktop, the ceiling height and the socket you want, then compare two models side by side in the Designix lighting catalogue and our wood and metal selection. You will then know whether the room calls for a single point or a line of pendant lights.
