Start by measuring the space available on the furniture: a base of 16 to 40 cm in diameter and a height of 41.5 to 64 cm decides everything. The three blue ceramics in the collection are for dry indoor use (IP20), on a bedside table or a living room console, with an E27 or E14 socket and a shade that makes the light.
What light does a blue ceramic table lamp give in a living room?
The blue colour of the base does not tint the light: it acts as a coloured volume in the room, and the shade decides the effect. In fabric, as on the Cous lamp in antique blue ceramic, it diffuses a soft halo downwards and to the sides. A wide base needs a shade to match, otherwise the light goes more directly towards the wall.
Table lamps in sky blue ceramic
Sky blue is the pale version of blue, brighter than an antique blue: in a dimly lit room or on a dark wall, it acts as a light patch without dazzling. Blue table lamps are therefore compared mainly on the shade of the base, not on the light emitted. On a pale base, a linen or ecru cotton shade keeps this discreet effect; a dark shade cools it.
Designer ball table lamp
The ball shape in the collection fits within 16 cm in diameter: it is the gold and blue Sophia, a round, compact volume that reads as an object, not as furniture. The wider the ball, the more visual space it takes up: a 40 cm diameter base, like Harbin, becomes a landmark in a corner of the living room, while a 16 cm ball slips between two frames.
The most beautiful living room lamps: where to place a blue ceramic?
A blue ceramic goes where you sit and where you look: the corner of a sofa, the end of a console, the top of a low unit, the hallway. The idea is that it is seen without being in the way. A 40 cm diameter base like Harbin needs a deep, stable piece of furniture; a small format slips in anywhere.
Floor lamps or small formats: how much floor space?
A table lamp stays on a surface: it lights at seating height, near the sofa or the bed. A floor lamp, on the other hand, takes the floor and frees up the furniture. If you are unsure, keep the ceramic for accent light and look at designer lamps for the living room for the main volume. Two low light sources are often enough to change the mood of a room.
On a piece of furniture, a shelf, a console: the right surfaces
Check the depth of the top first: 26 cm deep for Sophia, 24 cm in diameter for Cous, 40 cm for Harbin. A 30 cm top supports a Cous, not a Harbin. Around it, ceiling spotlights should be spread as a wash of light above the living area rather than in a tight line against the wall, and avoid crossing a spotlight with the plumb line of the lamp. For more placement ideas, see modern living room table lamps and the Designix lighting catalogue.
How to choose between a bedside lamp and a living room lamp in blue ceramic?
The format decides the room. A compact model 26 cm deep and 16 cm in diameter fits on a bedside table; a base 64 cm high and 40 cm in diameter structures a corner of the living room. In between, Cous, at 41.5 cm high, moves from bedside to living room.
| Model | Format | Socket | Max power | Dimmer | Where to place it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cous, antique blue and white | H 41.5 cm / Ø 24 cm | E27 | 60 W | yes | Living room, bedroom |
| Sophia, gold and blue | Ø 16 cm / D 26 cm | E14 | 40 W max | no | Living room, bedroom, bedside |
| Harbin, blue and grey | Ø 40 cm / H 64 cm | E27 | 60 W max | no | Living room, bedroom |
Blue ceramic table lamps for a bedside table
On a bedside table, the constraint is the width of the top: a 16 cm diameter base leaves room for the book and the glass of water, a 40 cm base does not. Bedside ceramics therefore favour compactness, with a low light close to the sleeper. A warm bulb does more there than a large shade.
Large format: measure before placing
A base 64 cm high under a shade is close to the seat height of an armchair: it lights the hand and the book, not the face. Measure the height of the furniture, add that of the base, and check that the line stays below eye level. For a bedroom, models designed for the bedroom favour small volumes.
What colour goes with blue in paint?
Blue goes with white, grey, gold and light woods. In the collection, these families already exist: antique blue and white, gold and blue, blue and grey. The simplest approach is to pick up a colour already present in the room rather than adding one more shade.
| Shade of the base | Model | Matching colours | Mood |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antique blue and white | Cous | White, fabric, light wood | Soft, a little retro |
| Gold and blue | Sophia | Gold, brass, black | Contrasting, bohemian |
| Blue and grey | Harbin | Grey, off-white, linen | Calm, Asian inspiration |
Klein blue pendant: when the blue of the light becomes the highlight
A very saturated Klein blue pendant changes everything: it becomes the colour of the room and the blue ceramic must then stay discreet, in antique blue or grey. If the wall is already white and light wood, deep blue works effortlessly. For metallic combinations, see gold and black lamps.
Blue bubble sofa: matching the blue of the lamp to the fabric
With a blue sofa, avoid a strictly identical blue: an antique blue on a bright blue seat creates a nuance, an identical blue cancels itself out. Off-white remains the safe choice, as on white ceramics. A fine gold, on the other hand, warms a cold blue.
How to connect several lamps to a single electrical supply?
Several lamps can run from the same supply if they are wired in parallel, one after the other, and controlled by a single switch. Each socket gets its own bulb. A table lamp with a cord, however, plugs into a socket: it is not wired directly to the circuit.
Wiring 3 lamps to 1 switch
Three fixed light points on the same circuit are supplied in parallel: the switch cuts them all with one movement. The combined wattage of the bulbs then stays within the limits of the circuit, which should be checked before fitting three powerful bulbs. None of the ceramics in the collection is designed for wiring to the circuit: they run from a socket, with their cord.
Connecting several lamps in parallel
In parallel, each lamp receives the same voltage and works independently: if one is switched off or removed, the others stay on. This is the logical arrangement for a series of light points around a living room. A well-sized power strip solves the question for ceramic table lamps with a cord. For a lamp that needs to be directed, see adjustable lamps.
E27 or E14 socket: how to choose the bulb for a blue ceramic table lamp?
The socket dictates the bulb: E27 on Cous and Harbin, E14 on Sophia. The maximum power indicated on the socket must not be exceeded. With the same socket, a filament bulb gives a warm light and an LED a crisper effect: the choice depends on the use.
Maximum power indicated: 40 W or 60 W
These values are ceilings, not targets. A 60 W bulb in a Cous is bright for a corner of the sofa; a more modest bulb is often enough and heats the socket less. On Sophia, the ceiling is 40 W max: it is a small volume, the bulb is close to the shade. Respect the value shown, it protects the socket and the wire.
Dimmer: what it changes day to day
Only one model in the collection is indicated as compatible with a dimmer, the Cous. It allows you to go from reading light to ambient glow without changing the bulb, provided the bulb chosen is dimmable. On the other models, the socket takes a simple bulb, with no brightness adjustment. For a bedroom, LED lighting for the bedroom complements this type of lamp well.
Italian design table lamp: what distinguishes a beautiful ceramic?
An Italian design lamp is recognised by the finish of the base: even glaze, clean neck, right proportions between diameter and height. Product pages mention ceramic, stoneware or porcelain; these are families of fired clay, chosen for the fineness of the wall and the finish of the glaze.
Stoneware, porcelain, glazed ceramic: the words on product pages
Ceramic refers to fired and glazed clay, stoneware is fired higher and often denser, porcelain is finer and more translucent. On a table lamp, the difference is mainly felt by touch and seen in the sharpness of the design. These are manufacturing terms, not promises about light. Other materials are worth comparing, such as designer desk lamps or white designer lamps.
Wide base, fine neck: the work of form
A narrow neck above a wide base requires perfect firing regularity: that is where the quality of a glaze shows. On a 40 cm diameter base, the slightest ripple of the edge is noticeable. A 16 cm ball shape is more forgiving and suits small rooms.
How to care for and install a blue ceramic table lamp?
A glazed base is cleaned with a soft cloth barely dampened, without abrasive products; a fabric shade is dusted dry. These lamps are IP20: indoor use, protected from water splashes, so not in the bathroom. Change the bulb with the power off, once the base has cooled.
Cleaning a glazed base without dulling the blue
No scouring sponge or harsh detergent on the glaze: they scratch the surface and the blue loses its shine. A damp microfibre cloth is enough for dust, a mild soap for a mark. The fabric shade is dusted with a soft brush or the vacuum cleaner on minimum power, without getting it wet.
IP20: what that allows in terms of location
IP20 means dry indoor use, away from splashes: living room, bedroom, hallway, study, but not a bathroom or a damp room. Place the lamp on a stable surface, away from the edge, and leave the cord free rather than trapped behind furniture. Designix supports your order from start to finish: secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and customer service to check a dimension before confirming. A doubt between 24 and 40 cm in diameter is settled with a tape measure, not after delivery: measure your surface, then choose between the Cous antique blue, the gold and blue Sophia and the blue and grey Harbin.
Frequently asked questions about blue ceramic table lamps
Is there such a thing as a sky blue ceramic table lamp?
Sky blue is a pale shade of blue, brighter than an antique blue. In the collection, blue comes as antique blue paired with white, deep blue mixed with gold and blue softened by grey. A pale shade works well in a dimly lit room or a bedroom, where it stays soft once switched off.
Can a dimmer be fitted to a ceramic table lamp?
Only one model in the collection is indicated as compatible with a dimmer, the Cous. On the others, the socket takes an E27 or E14 bulb with no brightness variation. The dimmer, where provided, allows you to go from reading light to ambient glow with the same lamp, provided you use a suitable bulb.
Which bulb should go in a blue ceramic table lamp?
It all depends on the socket: E27 on the Cous and Harbin models, E14 on Sophia. The maximum power indicated must be respected, 60 W for Cous, 60 W max for Harbin, 40 W max for Sophia. A bulb that is too powerful heats the socket unnecessarily; it is better to stay within the limit shown on the lampholder.
Is a blue ceramic table lamp suitable for a bedroom?
Yes, all the models in the collection are indicated for the bedroom as well as the living room. In a bedroom, a compact format 16 cm in diameter placed on the bedside table is preferable, with a warm-light bulb. Wide bases are better placed on a chest of drawers or in a corner of the living room.
How do delivery and returns work for a table lamp?
Designix ships with tracked delivery and secure payment. If the model does not suit the room, returns are possible and customer service supports you through the process. Before ordering, check the height and diameter of the base: that is what decides the space available on the furniture and the stability of the whole.
