Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right light output?
Allow about 100 to 300 lumens per m²: about 150 lm/m² for a living room, about 350 for a kitchen. Each product page lists the lumens.
At what height should the light be installed?
Above a table: 70-85 cm from the tabletop; in a walkway: at least 2.10 m of clearance below the bulb.
What type of bulb?
Usually E27 or E14, sometimes GU10. Specified on each product page.
Compatible with LEDs and dimmers?
Yes, in most cases; for use with a dimmer, look for the “dimmable” mention.

A black track spot light fixes onto a track and moves to target a precise area: worktop, table, wall or walkway. The selection is in black aluminium, mostly LED, with warm white or neutral white colour temperatures and a few GU10 models.

Contents

What light does a black track spot light give?

Aim at the useful area rather than the ceiling: the beam of the black track spot light falls on the worktop, the table or a wall, and leaves the rest of the room in a softer light. The black of the track blends into a dark ceiling and underlines a light ceiling.

Black track spot light LED: warm white or neutral white?

Warm white (2700 to 3500 K) wraps a living room or a table, and neutral white (3500 to 4500 K) makes a worktop easier to read. The Railen tube is warm white, the Raillon neutral white. To compare the other models, open the LED spots with integrated source.

Can the spots be directed and the intensity varied?

Yes for direction: the projector turns towards the useful area. The dimmer is only present on some models, such as the Railor; do not expect it on the others. An adjustable spot is set before tightening the track, and the whole blends with the lighting of the home.

Where to install a black track spot light in the home?

Place the track above what you are doing: a kitchen worktop, a living room coffee table, a dressing room wardrobe. A single track covers a walkway, and each projector is directed towards the useful area without lighting the face.

Which black track spot light for which room?
Room What is lit Suitable shape Light temperature To remember
Kitchen Worktop, island 60 cm tube or adjustable cylinder Neutral white 3500 to 4500 K Direct towards the worktop, not towards the face
Living room Coffee table, wall, bookcase Adjustable or round cylinder Warm white 2700 to 3500 K Several spots on the same track to separate the areas
Hallway Walkway, entrance Elongated profile or tube Warm white A continuous track avoids multiplying ceiling points
Dressing room Wardrobe, mirror Small adjustable cylinder Neutral white Direct the beam towards the areas to read
Study Worktop, reading Adjustable cylinder Neutral white Avoid direct reflection on the screen

In the kitchen, above the worktop

A Kaelen with ten lenses lights widely, a Railor targets a point. Neutral white helps to read the gestures. Find the kitchen spots and the LED spots for kitchen.

In the living room, the hallway and the dressing room

In the living room, align two or three projectors above the sofa or the coffee table. In a hallway, an elongated profile such as the Nereis follows the walkway. See the living room spots and the hallway spots.

How to arrange ceiling spots in a living room?

Align the spots along the track, not staggered: the living room ceiling spot layout gains in clarity when each projector targets a use area, coffee table, wall or bookcase, and when the beam stays away from seated eyes. The spacing is set according to the track length and the ceiling height.

Ceiling spot distance: how to space the projectors?

There is no single distance: space them regularly for a continuous line, or group them above an area. The ceiling spot distance depends mainly on the height and the angle of the projector. A living room lighting is judged seated, not standing.

One track or several lines in the same living room?

One track is enough for a walkway. Two parallel lines separate a living room from a dining room without multiplying ceiling points. If the ceiling is light, the white version of the same track is less visible; the living room spot remains the basis of the calculation. Track spots are also chosen according to the possible direction.

Black track spot light LED or GU10 spot: which to choose?

Choose the integrated LED if you do not want to manage a bulb: the source is in the projector and the temperature is set at the order. Choose the GU10 socket if you want to change the bulb or the temperature later, with a bulb of 8 W maximum.

Black track spot light LED: integrated source, nothing to replace

The Fabula and the Railena keep their integrated LED: nothing to replace, and the temperature does not change. These models remain IP20. If you compare with a Leroy Merlin spot, a Castorama track spot or a Paulmann track spot reference, check the socket, the temperature and the track compatibility.

GU10 socket: a bulb of 8 W maximum that can be changed

The Tuka and the Stick accept a GU10 bulb of 8 W maximum, which you choose. The temperature therefore comes from the bulb. See the GU10 bulb spots and the dimmer-compatible models.

Which format of black track spot light for which room?

Decide according to the surface to cover: a 60 cm tube draws a continuous line, an adjustable cylinder targets a point, a lens profile lights widely without dazzling. The format is chosen on the useful area, not on the track length.

60 cm tubes and adjustable cylinders

The Raillon and the Railen measure 60 cm long for 3.6 cm in diameter. The Railor turns towards a precise point. These shapes are found in the black spots for ceiling and track.

Lens profiles and 48 V track

The Kaelen distributes the light over several lenses. The CRETE1 exists in several powers on 48 V track. To compare the data sheets, open the black LED spots and the track spot section.

How to wire several spots on a single power supply?

A single power point on the ceiling is enough: the track carries and distributes the current, then the spots click onto it. The connection to the mains and the load check are entrusted to an electrician, especially if you add several projectors on the same line.

One track, a single power point on the ceiling

The black track spot serves as support and distribution. A suspended track spot is fixed by rods, a surface-mounted track stays on the ceiling. Check the compatibility before adding a projector of another brand on an existing track.

Dimmer and control: what to check before ordering

Not all models are dimmable. The Railor and the Raildor allow it; others do not. Group the dimmer-compatible models and the spots all fixings before ordering.

How to match a black track spot light with the decor?

On a raw wood table served without a tablecloth, direct a warm white towards the top and keep the rest of the room softer: the black track spot light blends into the decor and lets the wood occupy the scene. Gold finishes bring a glow when black weighs too much.

Above a raw wood table, served without a tablecloth

The Railen or the Fabula in warm white suit wood. Avoid the frontal beam that whitens the veins. For a table, an adjustable spot is better than a fixed line.

Gold finishes and reflector: when black needs a glow

The Railux with gold reflector, the Raildor with gold ring and the Doraux warm up the black. See the black spots. An industrial track spot accepts the exposed track.

And if the room is light: the white version

If the room is light, the CRETE1 and the Fall exist in white. The white track spot is less visible on a painted ceiling. Compare with the white spots.

How to install and maintain a black track spot light?

All the models in the selection are IP20: they withstand dry indoor air, not the humidity of a bathroom or the weather. Fix the track to the ceiling, clip the spots, direct each beam towards the useful area and clean the black aluminium with a soft cloth.

IP20: why these spots stay indoors

IP20 protects against finger contact and dust, without water resistance. For a damp room, turn to a bathroom spot; for outside, to an outdoor spot. The black track spot light stays in the kitchen, living room, hallway or dressing room.

Fixing the track and directing the spots

The track is fixed to the ceiling, the spots click and turn. Do not direct the beam towards a screen or towards the eyes. A well-directed ceiling spot avoids harsh shadows on the worktop.

Cleaning the black aluminium

A soft non-abrasive cloth is enough on black aluminium. No aggressive product or abrasive sponge. Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service accompany the order.

Frequently asked questions

What distance between two ceiling spots?

There is no single distance: it depends on the track length, the ceiling height and the surface to light. On a track, space the projectors regularly for a continuous line, or group them above a precise area. Better to play on the direction than to multiply the spots.

Black track spot light LED: which power to choose?

The powers in the selection range from about 6.6 W for a small cylinder to 25 W for a 60 cm tube, with intermediate models at 12, 18 or 20 W. A spot directed towards a worktop requires less power than a line that lights widely.

Can a black track spot light be installed in a bathroom?

No for these models: the whole selection is IP20, a rating that protects against finger contact and dust, without humidity resistance. A bathroom requires a spot designed for damp air, the outside an outdoor model. The black track spot light stays in the kitchen, living room, hallway or dressing room.

How to match a black track spot light with a wood table?

On a raw wood table served without a tablecloth, prefer a warm white (2700 to 3500 K) that warms the wood veins, and a beam directed towards the top rather than frontal lighting. The black of the track matches dark wood, and the gold finishes of Railux or Doraux light it up.

What difference between a black track spot light and a recessed spot?

The track spot remains visible and moves along its support: a single power point is enough for several projectors, without drilling the ceiling at each location. The recessed spot aligns with the ceiling and no longer moves once installed. The choice depends on the desired freedom of adjustment.

Our advice for choosing
