With outdoor wall lights E27, you choose the bulb: an opal globe for soft light, clear or smoked glass for a sharper beam. You then replace it without changing the fixture. The selection brings together models in aluminium, metal, glass and acrylic, from cylinder to spherical globe, in IP44, IP54 and IP65, all guaranteed for five years.
What is an outdoor wall light E27?
An outdoor wall light E27 is a fixture to be mounted on a facade, a terrace wall or under a porch canopy, fitted with an E27 socket. You choose the bulb, its colour and its intensity, then replace it without changing the fixture. The whole selection uses this socket, from black cylinder to opal globe.
Outdoor wall lights E27: what the socket changes day to day
A fixture with an integrated socket imposes its light and its lifespan. With an E27 socket, the light is set after installation, and a change of mood costs a bulb, not a model. Some models in the selection are rated for 60 W, others for 15 W: the latter are more compact and aim for a low-consumption bulb. The E27 wall light is therefore also simpler to repair.
An outdoor E27 bulb: which one to put behind the socket?
Check the wattage indicated for the fixture, then take a bulb designed to work outdoors, as humidity does not spare sockets. An opal globe, as on the Murina spherical wall light, gives a soft, wide light. Clear glass, as on the Sylvera cylinder, draws a sharper beam.
How to choose your outdoor wall light E27?
Four criteria are enough: the material, which decides how it holds up over time; the protection rating, which depends on the wall's exposure; the shape, tube, globe or cage, which changes the diffusion; and the colour, black, white, grey or anthracite, to match the facade. The socket remains E27 everywhere, so the bulb settles nothing.
Aluminium, metal or plastic: which material for an outdoor wall?
Aluminium dominates the selection by far: it withstands temperature variations and keeps its shade. Metal brings finer lines, as on the Zensamella ribbed wall light. Plastic and acrylic serve mainly as diffusers or sealing blocks, on models such as Kovana. For a heavily rain-hit wall, look first at the material and the rating, style comes next.
Which E27 wattage to choose: 15 W or 60 W?
The indicated wattage is what the fixture accepts. A value of 60 W leaves the field open for a strong bulb, useful on a large wall or a post. A value of 15 W corresponds to compact models, designed for a discreet light point or a low-consumption bulb. A lower-wattage bulb always works; beyond that, the socket heats up.
| Model | Material | Weatherproofing | Dimensions | Wattage | Recommended use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Murina | Aluminium, opal globe | IP54 | Ø 20 cm, D 16 cm | 60 W | Covered terrace, soft light |
| Sylvera | Aluminium, clear glass | IP54 | W 10.8 cm, D 16.5 cm, H 20 cm | 60 W | Narrow wall, sharp beam |
| Silsamisto | Aluminium, clear glass | IP54 | D 16.5 cm, H 32 cm | 60 W | Facade corner, entrance |
| Kovana | Metal, acrylic, textured glass | IP65 | W 9.2 cm, D 36.5 cm | 15 W | Facade exposed to rain |
| Noctivis | Aluminium, plastic | IP65 | W 11.5 cm, D 20.2 cm | 15 W | Passageway, with sensor |
| Filamenta | Aluminium, plastic | IP65 | W 8.6 cm, D 8.8 cm | 15 W | Filament bulb, anthracite facade |
Which outdoor wall light for a terrace?
On a terrace, weatherproofing comes before style: IP65 models hold up on a wall exposed to rain, such as Kovana, Noctivis or Filamenta, while an IP54 is enough under an awning or a pergola. For a table, an opal globe lights without dazzling the guests.
Covered terrace or exposed wall: which weatherproofing to aim for?
A wall that takes rain head-on requires a high rating, IP65 in the selection. A wall under a roof overhang or under a pergola is content with an IP54, by far the majority here. IP44 remains possible on a wall that is only damp. The useful detail: look at the bottom of the fixture, that is where water gets in. The weatherproof outdoor models cover these three levels.
Opal globe or clear glass: which light above a table?
The opal globe spreads light in all directions and softens faces. Clear glass concentrates and projects further, which suits a wall or a post, less so a dining group. The grey Bulbina wall light plays the diffusion card, Filamenta highlights a filament bulb. Compare these two effects in the terrace wall lights and the design for terrace collections.
Which wall light for an entrance, a staircase or a facade?
In an entrance or an outdoor staircase, the aim is to see the step and the threshold without dazzling: models with clear or smoked glass direct the light downwards. On a long facade, several aligned models are worth more than a single larger one, placed in the centre.
Lighting an outdoor staircase without dazzling
Place the fixture on the opposite side from the handrail, so that the light grazes the steps instead of hitting the eye of the person coming down. Smoked glass, as on Fumante, filters the flow; clear glass, as on Silsamisto, lights clearly. The exact height is decided on site, depending on the steps and the railing.
Entrance and facade: how to place several wall lights?
Create a rhythm rather than concentrating: one wall light on either side of the door, then one every few metres on a long facade, at a constant height. For a passageway that switches on by itself, wall lights with motion sensor save you looking for the switch. On a heavily exposed wall, stick to IP65 wall lights.
Which high-end design wall lights for a facade?
A well-made wall light is recognised by its proportions and its finish: slim aluminium profile, textured or opal glass, sharp edges, dimensions thought out for the wall that receives them. In the selection, Kovana, Zensamella, Silsamisto or Tessamisto play this card, with a five-year guarantee.
What distinguishes a well-made wall light from an ordinary model
The difference shows in the detail: continuity of the paint, fit of the glass on the bracket, invisible cable outlet, matching screws. A narrow aluminium profile ages better than a thick plastic block, and textured glass masks the light source while diffusing it. These points can be read in the design wall lights as well as in the black metal wall lights.
Matching several wall lights on the same facade
Keep a single colour family on the whole wall: black or anthracite on a dark facade, white or light grey on a light render. The format can vary from one wall to another, the shade cannot. Also think about the colour of the joinery, which often dictates the final result. The black finishes and the white version are the two sharpest extremes.
| Criterion | What the selection offers | What it changes on the wall |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Aluminium, metal, plastic, glass, acrylic | Aluminium withstands the weather, glass plays on transparency |
| Weatherproofing | IP44, IP54, IP65 | A high rating for an exposed wall, a moderate rating for a sheltered wall |
| Shape | Tube, globe, ball, cage, round | The cylinder directs the light, the globe diffuses it widely |
| Colour | Black, white, grey, anthracite, clear | Black blends into a dark facade, white lightens a light wall |
| Socket | E27 on all models | Free bulb: colour and intensity of your choice, easy replacement |
| Guarantee | 5 years on the whole selection | Peace of mind on the fixture, the bulb remaining your choice |
Can an outdoor wall light E27 be installed in a living room or a bedroom?
These fixtures are designed for outdoors and the terrace. They suit a porch, a conservatory or a covered terrace open to the living room, where the protection rating shields from humidity. For a truly interior room, a living room or bedroom wall light remains more suitable.
Conservatory, porch, covered terrace: the in-between uses
These spaces are covered but damp and subject to temperature swings: an IP54 finds its place there, an IP65 if rain can enter sideways. The E27 socket helps, since you adjust the light depending on whether the room is used by day or by night. Glacielle and Crespino are two formats suited to these walls.
Indoor use: which collections to turn to
In a closed room, the protection rating is no longer useful and the outdoor dimensions become bulky. Look instead at the living room wall lights for a lounge, and the adult bedroom wall lights for a headboard. The effect there is lower and softer, designed for proximity.
Art deco, art nouveau, wood wall lights: what is there here?
This selection is entirely contemporary: aluminium, metal, plastic, glass and acrylic, no wood, no art deco or art nouveau reference. If you are looking for that register, look instead at vintage or industrial-style outdoor wall lights, which come closest.
Why this selection is contemporary and not art deco
The available shapes are tubes, globes, balls and cages, in black, white, grey or anthracite. The lines are clean, with no ornament or wrought iron. This choice also comes from the material: aluminium and glass age better outdoors than worked wood, which requires permanent shelter. The modern outdoor wall lights are the most direct version of this.
Industrial or vintage style: the closest alternatives
The industrial register plays on the cage and the exposed bulb, the vintage one on rounded lines and patinated tones. Two real leads in the catalogue: the industrial style and the vintage inspiration. The grey colours fit in well there, on a stone or concrete wall.
How to install and maintain an outdoor wall light E27?
Installation follows three steps: mark the height on the wall, drill at the bracket's centres, then refit the gasket and the block before screwing. Once in place, a soft cloth is enough for aluminium and glass; abrasive products are avoided on acrylic and plastic.
Installation, gasket and drilling: the points to watch
Cut the power first. Hold the bracket against the wall and mark the holes in pencil rather than with an approximate template. The gasket ensures the stated weatherproofing: if it is pinched or badly repositioned, the protection rating no longer holds. Finally, screw in the bulb as you would indoors, without forcing, and check that the bottom of the fixture remains clear.
Maintaining the aluminium, glass and plastic of an outdoor wall light
A soft cloth and soapy water are enough on aluminium and glass. On acrylic and plastic, avoid alcohol and abrasives, which dull the surface. Twice a year, remove leaves and cobwebs caught between the glass and the bracket, and wipe around a sensor if the model has one. A Noctivis sensor wall light is cleaned in the same way, without ever dismantling the sensor.
The Designix catalogue is here: the Designix lighting catalogue gathers all the references, and you can refine by finish, rating or format depending on your wall. Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service accompany every order. Choose your wall first, then the light you want on it, and let the E27 socket do the rest.
Frequently asked questions
Which outdoor E27 bulb should I choose for a wall light?
Since the socket is identical everywhere, everything depends on the light you want: an opal globe diffuses softly, without glare above a table, while a filament or clear glass bulb gives a sharper beam on a facade. Check the wattage accepted by the fixture, then take a bulb designed for outdoor use.
Should I choose an IP65 or an IP54 wall light on a facade?
The rating depends on the wall's exposure: IP44 suits a sheltered wall, IP54 a covered terrace or a lightly rain-hit wall, IP65 when rain strikes directly. In the selection, Kovana, Noctivis, Nerva and Filamenta are IP65. To go further, compare the IP65 wall lights with the IP54 models.
Are wooden wall lights suitable for outdoors?
This collection offers none: the materials used are aluminium, metal, plastic, glass and acrylic, chosen to withstand humidity and temperature swings. If wood remains the material you are after, reserve it for a sheltered wall and look instead at the indoor collections, which are better suited to this material.
Are there any 1930s art deco or art nouveau wall lights here?
No: the selection is entirely contemporary, in aluminium, metal, plastic and glass, with tube, globe, ball or cage shapes. For an art deco or art nouveau spirit, you have to look elsewhere. For a more elaborate facade, the vintage inspiration and the industrial style are the closest leads.
Can an outdoor wall light E27 be installed in a living room or an adult bedroom?
These models are designed for outdoors and the terrace, but they find their place under a porch, in a conservatory or on a covered terrace open to the living room, where the protection rating shields from humidity. For a closed room, an adult bedroom wall light or a living room wall light will be better sized.
