Count four things before ordering: the protection rating, the diameter, the LED wattage and the material. An IP44 is fine under a canopy or a sheltered entrance, while an IP54 remains suitable for a wet room. All the LEDs in the selection give off a warm white between 2700 and 3500 K, with no screw-in bulb.

Which outdoor ceiling lights with motion sensor should you choose?
Three criteria are enough: the protection rating depending on exposure, the diameter depending on the area to cover, the LED wattage depending on the light you want. The models in the selection share an integrated LED, a warm white between 2700 and 3500 K and a two-year warranty. The rest comes down to style and size.
How to choose between an IP44 and an IP54 ceiling light?
IP44 protects against water spray, IP54 adds dust. In general, IP44 is enough under a roof overhang, where the light does not get direct rain. Near a wet room or on a very exposed wall, IP54 is more comfortable. In the selection, the Ask 36 is IP44, the Sensio and Noural are IP54. To see other formats, browse the outdoor ceiling lights.
What size ceiling light for a terrace or a hallway?
Around 30 cm, a ceiling light stays discreet in a hallway or an entrance. At around 36 cm, it marks a door or a small terrace. At 42.4 cm, it covers a wider area above a table. The Noural measures 29.4 cm, the Ask 36 measures 36 cm, the Sensio 42.4 cm. Available height matters as much as diameter, especially under a low canopy. Other references appear in the outdoor LED range.
How does a motion sensor work on an outdoor ceiling light?
The ceiling light turns on as soon as a presence is detected under the fixture, with no switch to look for. This is useful with your hands full in front of a door, reassuring at night in a hallway or a passage. The light given off remains a warm white between 2700 and 3500 K, identical to that of a classic LED ceiling light.
Ceiling light with sensor: for which outdoor space?
An entrance, a terrace under a canopy, a side passage: these places suit a sensor because you arrive there with your hands full. The product data gives neither range, nor angle, nor lighting duration, so the model's specification sheet remains the reference for these values. Other motion sensor models cover other rooms of the house.
Motion sensor or switch in a hallway?
In a hallway or a walkway, the sensor replaces the switch you cannot find in the dark. The light turns off by itself after you pass, with no risk of forgetting it when you leave. To equip the rest of the house, the lighting universe gathers the other families of ceiling lights and pendants.
Outdoor E27 bulb: do you need to plan for a bulb?
No. The sensor ceiling lights in this selection work with an integrated LED, indicated as LED module: no E27 bulb to screw in, nothing to buy. If you are looking for an outdoor light designed to take an E27 bulb, turn to another family, for example the modern style outdoor ceiling lights, and check the socket stated on each specification sheet.
Integrated LED module: what it changes in use
The LED module is fitted at the factory: no socket to fill, no bulb reference to find again, no replacement to plan for. The light arrives complete, with its colour temperature set between 2700 and 3500 K. The trade-off is simple: at the end of its life, you replace the light, not the bulb.
I am looking for an outdoor light with an E27 bulb, where should I look?
Families with a classic socket can be found elsewhere in the catalogue: browse the outdoor ceiling lights by format and by style, reading each time the power supply stated. No compatibility with an E27 bulb is promised on the three white sensor models presented here.
Outdoor terrace wall light or ceiling light: which mounting should you choose?
A wall light is fixed to the facade and projects light along the wall, from top to bottom. A ceiling light is placed above the area, under a canopy or an overhang, and lights the ground below. It all depends on the free surface above you: an available wall calls for the wall light, an available ceiling calls for the ceiling light.
Wall light: light along the wall
The wall light highlights a gable, lights a narrow path or borders a door without taking up the space under the canopy. It leaves the ceiling free and draws a vertical band of light. The design pieces for facades play this card of the wall as a support.
Ceiling light: light above the area
Mounted on the ceiling, the light illuminates the surface below it: a terrace table, a landing, a vestibule. This is the solution when you want even light rather than a halo on a wall. The outdoor ceiling lights gather these mountings, with or without a sensor.
Where to install an outdoor ceiling light with sensor, inside as well as outside?
These lights are not reserved for outdoors. The models in the selection are indicated for outdoor, terrace, living room, bedroom and office; the Sensio is also indicated for the bathroom, and the Ask 36 as well as the Noural complete the list with the hallway. Check the room listed on the specification sheet before ordering.
Bathroom and wet room: which rating to favour?
In a wet room, choose the highest protection level and a low profile. The Sensio and its large diameter is IP54 and does not exceed 3.8 cm in height, which makes it suitable for the bathroom. For very small areas, compare with the small wet rooms.
Entrance and hallway: the passages that light up on their own
A narrow passage requires a compact light, so you do not have to duck as you pass. The Noural, with its minimalist style, measures 29.4 cm in diameter and suits this kind of place, like the Ask 36 which also appears in hallway rooms. See the lighting a hallway for other format ideas.
| Room | What matters most | Model in the selection | Protection rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terrace | turning on without looking for the switch, in warm white | Ask 36 | IP44 |
| Entrance or hallway | triggering on passing and low profile | Noural | IP54 |
| Living room | covering a large area on the ceiling | Sensio | IP54 |
| Bedroom | warm white light 2700 - 3500 K | Noural | IP54 |
| Office | even light on the work surface | Ask 36 | IP44 |
| Bathroom | flat ceiling light for a wet room | Sensio | IP54 |
Above a large living space, think as for living room ceiling lights: generous diameter and even light. In a bedroom, look instead for the bedroom versions, where you want a soft tone and a beam that does not mark the walls.
How to install and care for an outdoor ceiling light with sensor?
Cut the power before any work, fix the mounting plate to the ceiling, connect according to the diagram, then refit the diffuser checking the seal. The Sensio and the Noural do not exceed 3.8 cm in height, the Ask 36 reaches 10.5 cm: a useful figure when space is tight above your head.
Fixing the ceiling light to the ceiling: the steps
- Switch off the power at the circuit breaker and check there is no voltage.
- Mark the mounting plate, drill at the right centres, screw into a sound support.
- Connect the wires according to the light's diagram, without forcing the connectors.
- Refit the diffuser and check that the seal is properly in place.
- Restore the power and test the triggering by passing in front of the sensor.
Care: cleaning the diffuser and sensor
A soft, slightly damp cloth is enough, with no abrasive product or alcohol on the plastic. Do not aim a water jet at the sensor lens, even on an IP54. The Noural, the most compact cleans in a minute, thanks to its flat diffuser.
Warm white 2700 - 3500 K: what light for a terrace in the evening?
The ceiling lights in the selection give off a warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K: a slightly golden tone that warms a facade and a terrace in the evening. Cool white, bluer, gives on the contrary a car park feel. This is the usual temperature of places where you settle rather than pass through.
Why warm white rather than cool white outside?
Warm white flatters stone, wood and render, and is less tiring for the eye when you come out of a lit house. Cool white, very white, is reserved for passage areas you want functional. The three models in the selection only offer this warm tone, no cool variant.
Matching a white ceiling light with the facade
A white body blends into a light wall and almost disappears on the ceiling. On a dark facade, it draws on the contrary a sharp point, which can be desirable. The white ceiling lights gather these light finishes, and the modern white for living spaces show their use indoors.
Which model to choose among the three sensor ceiling lights?
The Sensio covers a wide area with 42.4 cm diameter and 20 W. The Ask 36, in metal and plastic, measures 36 cm for 17.6 W. The Noural, with its minimalist style, makes do with 29.4 cm and 15 W. All three are guaranteed for two years and give off a warm white.
Flat ceiling light or thicker ceiling light: what effect?
A flat model like the Sensio or the Noural goes unnoticed on the ceiling and lets light spread in a wide sheet. The Ask 36, 10.5 cm high, has more presence and its mix of metal and plastic stands out more. It is up to you whether the light should blend in or stand out.
Which model for a narrow hallway?
The Noural, with its 29.4 cm and 15 W, is the most suited to a narrow passage. The Ask 36, also listed for the hallway, works if the passage is wider. To adjust the light at installation, also look at the dimmable models.
| Model | Material | Protection rating | Wattage | Dimensions | Indicated rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ask 36 | Metal and plastic | IP44 | 17.6 W | H 10.5 cm, Ø 36 cm | Outdoor, terrace, living room, bedroom, office, hallway |
| Sensio | Plastic | IP54 | 20 W | H 3.8 cm, Ø 42.4 cm | Outdoor, terrace, living room, bedroom, office, bathroom |
| Noural | Plastic | IP54 | 15 W | H 3.8 cm, Ø 29.4 cm | Outdoor, terrace, living room, bedroom, office, hallway |

Frequently asked questions
Outdoor E27 bulb: do these ceiling lights need a bulb?
No. The models in the selection work with an integrated LED, indicated as LED module: no E27 bulb to screw in, no replacement to plan for. For an outdoor light that takes an E27 bulb, you need to turn to another family of outdoor ceiling lights.
Outdoor terrace wall light: how to choose it?
A wall light is fixed to the facade and lights along the wall; a ceiling light is placed above the area and lights downwards. For a terrace covered by a canopy, the ceiling light leaves the wall free. For a bare gable, the wall light takes its place.
Which outdoor ceiling lights with motion sensor for a terrace?
The Ask 36, IP44 with 36 cm diameter and 17.6 W, installs well under an overhang. The Sensio, wider with 42.4 cm and 20 W, covers more above a large table. Both light in warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K.
What LED wattage for an outdoor ceiling light with sensor?
The selection offers 15 W for the Noural, 17.6 W for the Ask 36 and 20 W for the Sensio. The lowest wattage suits a hallway or a small entrance, the highest a large area to cover above a terrace.
Warm white or cool white for an outdoor ceiling light?
The ceiling lights in the selection give off a warm white between 2700 and 3500 K. On a facade or a terrace, this tone creates a welcoming atmosphere in the evening, whereas a cool white makes the lighting more impersonal. No cool variant is offered here.
