For a hallway, choose a flat ceiling light or a slim LED rail mounted flush to the ceiling in warm white, and add one or two extra light points if the hallway is long. Aluminium models with integrated LED, rated IP20, keep the passage clear and spread an even light, in a hall as well as in a narrow corridor.

Which LED ceiling light should you use in a hallway?

In a hallway, a flat or surface-mounted ceiling light works better than a bulky model: it does not reduce the passage and spreads an even light. Aluminium models with integrated LED, in warm or neutral white, sit flush with the ceiling and stay suited to narrow spaces.

LED hallway ceiling lights: the selection criteria that matter

Three points decide. Bulk first: a model such as the PINNE 118 ceiling light stays slim on the ceiling, leaving the space clear at shoulder height. Diffusion next: a wide luminous surface lights the floor without creating a bright spot. Cleaning last: aluminium and acrylic wipe clean with a cloth, glass is cleaned with a soft cloth. These three criteria are what separate two models of the same size in our lighting selection.

Hallway ceiling lights: surface-mounted, flat or recessed?

A flat or surface-mounted model fits onto an existing slab, with no building work, and can be replaced without touching the ceiling. A recessed model requires a cut-out in the ceiling and is mainly suited to a new build or a converted attic. If you go for that solution, compare recessed ceiling lights with surface-mounted models: the visual result is cleaner, the installation heavier. For a hallway that is already tiled or painted, surface-mounted remains the simple choice, to be found among the modern ceiling lights for hallways.

What are the LED lighting ideas for a hallway?

For a hallway, combine a flat ceiling light with one or two extra points: a surface-mounted spotlight above an entrance, a linear rail in a long corridor. Several low-power sources light better than a single strong point, with no dark zone and no glare.

LED light for a long hallway: spreading several sources

On a corridor several metres long, a linear rail set along the axis does the job: the 118 cm version comes in warm white and neutral white, with a slim profile. On a very long hallway, two short rails evenly spaced work better than one very long rail fixed at one end. You will find other layout ideas in the design models for hallways, and solutions aimed at a wall or a picture in the adjustable spotlights.

LED ceiling light for an entrance hall: where should it go?

In a hall, place the source above the walk-through area, not in the corner. The small Zephyr Sky design ceiling light, a cube in metal and aluminium, in warm white or cool white, suits a narrow entrance. A compact square model makes less of a statement than a wide round one when the entrance wall is close.

LED ceiling light: which format for which room
Room Recommended format Common fitting Light temperature Protection rating
Hallway Linear rail or flat ceiling light Integrated LED, GX53 Warm white, sometimes neutral white IP20
Entrance hall Surface-mounted spotlight or small round Integrated LED, GU10 Neutral white or warm white IP20
Living room Round, square or oval Integrated LED, E27 Warm white IP20
Bedroom Compact diffusing round Integrated LED, E27 Warm white IP20
Kitchen Flat or recessed ceiling light Integrated LED, GU10 Neutral white IP20
Toilets and small spaces Surface-mounted spotlight or small round Integrated LED, GU10 Warm white IP20

Which light colour for a hallway?

Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, remains the most common in a hallway: it extends the living room light and stays soft in the evening. Neutral white, from 3500 to 4500 K, gives a whiter light, useful in a hall or in front of a mirror. Cool white is very rare in this collection.

Light colour for living room and hallway: the same temperature?

Keeping the same temperature from one room to the next avoids the jarring effect when you push open a door. Warm white in both spaces gives immediate continuity; neutral white in the hallway and warm white in the living room is most noticeable in the evening, when both rooms are lit together. If you are unsure, start from the living room and match the hallway to it.

Warm white, neutral white or cool white: what it changes on the ceiling

On a pale wall, neutral white looks whiter and brings out the relief; on a dark floor, warm white avoids a greyish result. Cool white makes colours harsher and is mainly justified over a workstation, as in the modern LED range aimed at offices. A narrow corridor with several light points reads better with a single temperature for all: mixing two whites across three sources creates uneven zones. Dimmable versions, gathered in the dimmer models, let you lower the level in the evening without changing the shade.

Powerful LED ceiling light for a hallway: power and fitting

In this collection, the power of the ceiling lights varies with the size of the model: a small round format for an entrance, a linear rail for a long hallway. The integrated LED fitting dominates, followed by GX53, then E27, GU10 and G9 sockets for models that take a bulb.

Powerful LED wall light: an alternative to the ceiling light?

A wall light replaces the ceiling light when the ceiling is low or taken up by a beam. It lights as a wall wash and visually lengthens the hallway. At comparable power, it gives a different result: less light on the floor, more light on the wall. For an entrance hallway, combining a wall light and a discreet ceiling light works well, provided you keep the same temperature on both.

Integrated LED, GX53, E27, GU10 or G9: what it changes in use

An integrated LED cannot be replaced: nothing to plan, nothing to store, and that is the case for the PINNE rail as well as the Zambelis D100 ceiling light, an aluminium model rated at 7 W. GX53 takes a replaceable flat bulb, E27 accepts the bulb of your choice as on the Nilo rattan and bamboo ceiling light, GU10 takes a directional spotlight, G9 a pin bulb on small formats. Always check the power stated on the product page before buying a replacement bulb.

LED chandelier for a hallway or design ceiling light: which to choose?

In a hallway, a flat or surface-mounted model fits anywhere and does not catch the eye; a chandelier or a pendant needs height and clear space, and is better placed in a living room or a dining room. Style, for its part, is chosen first according to the light you want.

Modern ceiling lights for hallways or design LED ceiling lights?

Modern and minimalist styles dominate the collection, with slim tubes and clean shapes. Design, meanwhile, plays on material and form: a band such as the brown KLOVER band, in steel, stands out from the plain white square. A large oval like the Halo Sculpt ceiling light suits a wide entrance rather than a 90 cm passage. To go further on lines, browse the design LED ceiling lights.

Aluminium, black metal, rattan or bamboo: the finishes in the collection

Aluminium dominates by far, often in white, black or grey, which goes with almost any wall. Black metal makes more of a statement and suits an entrance with a dark floor. Rattan and bamboo, seen on the Osier ceiling light, bring a warm texture. Woods and matt finishes appear in the wooden LED ceiling lights, the workshop spirit in the industrial style LED ceiling lights.

Shapes, materials and styles of the ceiling lights in the collection
Shape Material Style Example model
Linear tube Aluminium Modern, minimalist PINNE 118
Long linear tube Aluminium Modern, minimalist PINNE 200
Compact square Metal, aluminium Modern, contemporary Zephyr Sky
Compact round Aluminium Contemporary Zambelis D100
Large round or oval Metal, acrylic, copper Modern, industrial Halo Sculpt
Free-form in fibres Rattan, metal, bamboo Contemporary, jungle Osier, Nilo

How do you match the hallway to the rest of the house?

Keep the same warm white from one room to the next and vary the shape: a discreet rail in the hallway, a more prominent ceiling light in the living room. The white, black or gold colourways recur from one collection to another, which makes it possible to keep a consistent line.

Modern kitchen decor and hallway: keeping the same thread

Modern kitchen decor often relies on a neutral light colour and clean lines; the hallway leading off it can take the same white, in a slimmer format. The idea is not to buy the same models everywhere, but to keep a thread: same family of shades, same level of white, different shapes depending on the space available. The eye follows that thread without noticing it.

Chandelier for a living room or large chandelier for a high ceiling: which other rooms?

The living room can take a more assertive model, and a room under a high ceiling can take a hanging piece. In that case, turn to the LED ceiling lights for living rooms, more generous in diameter, or to the modern LED ceiling lights for living rooms for a contemporary line. The hallway keeps a flat model. The whole holds together because the light does not change, only the volume. The Designix lighting universe groups these pieces by use.

Which light should you choose for a toilet or a small room?

In a toilet or a passage room, a small round ceiling light or a surface-mounted spotlight is enough: the space is small, the light must be even and without reflection on the walls. An aluminium or acrylic model with integrated LED is easy to clean and stays discreet on the ceiling.

A compact round of 100 to 250 mm takes up little space and lights the whole room, provided it is centred above the space and not above the door. Rattan and bamboo do not handle damp well: in a room with no window, prefer acrylic or glass. The Sina ceiling light in acrylic illustrates this type of compact format for a small space. On colour, a matt white remains the most discreet: the white LED ceiling lights range covers that need, and for a bedroom or a neighbouring room, see the LED ceiling lights for bedrooms.

How do you install and care for a hallway LED ceiling light?

A hallway ceiling light is fixed to the ceiling above the walk-through area, well away from doors to avoid cast shadows. The models in the collection are mostly IP20, so reserved for dry rooms; care is limited to a soft cloth on the aluminium, glass or acrylic.

IP20 or IP44: when is higher protection needed?

IP20 protects against contact with fingers and everyday dust: that is the case for the vast majority of ceiling lights, hallways included. IP44 adds protection against water splashes and is found mainly in damp rooms. A dry hallway is fine with IP20; only a very damp hallway, in a basement for example, justifies checking the product page before buying. Models designed for water are grouped in the bathroom lighting range.

Cleaning an aluminium, glass or rattan ceiling light

On aluminium, a dry microfibre cloth is enough; avoid abrasive products that scratch the finish. Glass and acrylic are cleaned with a damp cloth then dried, without removing the diffuser. Rattan, bamboo and wicker are dusted with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner on a gentle setting, without liquid product: a stripper or an aggressive cleaner would damage the fibre and its finish. Always switch off the power at the breaker before touching a light.

Cheap hallway LED ceiling light, delivery and returns: buying well

The most affordable models are the small round ceiling lights and the surface-mounted spotlights; long linear rails and large sizes sit higher in the range. At Designix, payment is secure, delivery is tracked, returns are possible and customer service can be reached before and after purchase.

Cheap hallway LED ceiling light: what makes the price vary

Three elements explain the gap between two models of the same power: the format, the material and the type of fitting. A 200 cm aluminium linear rail uses more material than a compact round, and an integrated LED module costs more than an E27 socket where the bulb is left to you. The format is dictated first by the space available: there is no point paying for a large band for a 90 cm hallway.

Secure payment, tracked delivery and returns at Designix

Payment is secure, delivery is tracked and returns are possible if the model does not suit. Designix customer service answers before purchase as well as after, in particular on choosing the light temperature or the compatibility of a replacement bulb. For a workstation or an office next to the hallway, also compare the workstation lighting and the kitchen ceiling lights.

Unsure between two formats? Start by measuring the length of the hallway and the ceiling height, then choose a linear rail such as the PINNE 118 for a long corridor, or a small square such as the Zephyr Sky for a narrow entrance. The whole selection can be browsed in the modern ceiling lights for hallways.

Frequently asked questions

Which ceiling light should you put in a hallway?

A flat or surface-mounted ceiling light, in aluminium, with an integrated LED, in warm white or neutral white. It does not hang down from the ceiling, does not get in the way of the passage and spreads an even light along the whole length. Round models and linear rails are the best suited.

Ceiling light for a long hallway: how do you choose and spread them?

Favour a linear rail or two to three small round ceiling lights evenly spaced. Several low-power points avoid dark zones and alternating shadows between each source, which a single point cannot do in a long corridor.

Which light colour for the living room and the hallway?

Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, is the most widespread in both rooms: it creates continuity when you move from the living room to the hallway. Neutral white, from 3500 to 4500 K, is better suited to an entrance hall or in front of a mirror.

Can an LED chandelier replace a ceiling light in a hallway?

A chandelier hangs down from the ceiling and needs height and clearance; in a narrow hallway, it reduces the passage and catches the eye. A flat ceiling light or a linear rail works better. An LED chandelier keeps its place in a living room or under a high ceiling.

Powerful LED ceiling light: what power for a hallway?

In this collection, power ranges from about 7 to 50 W. A narrow hallway is fine with a small format; a long hallway is better covered with a linear rail or several spread-out points. Light temperature matters as much as the stated power.
