Plan one wall light per area to light: one on each side of the sofa, one above the sideboard, one near the reading armchair. For a living room, aim for warm white light, a G9, G4 or E27 base depending on space, and a fixture width in proportion to the wall.

Which wall light for a living room?

For a living room, choose a wall light that illuminates without dazzling: G9, G4 or E27 base, or integrated LED, warm white light, width suited to the wall. Metal and glass dominate the selection, with gold or black finishes and, on some models, a dimmer.

12v living room wall light: what you need to know

A 12 V wall light runs on low voltage and requires a transformer, often housed in the bracket or in the wall. The G4 base matches this setup, with a small LED bulb. The advantage lies in the slim profile and reduced thickness of the fixture; the trade-off is the space needed for the transformer. Check this point on the product sheet before drilling.

Original or designer wall light: which style for my wall?

The shape does the work: tube, ball, oval, round or square. A modern living room wall light is recognisable by its clean line and slim arm, often in black or gold metal. A more striking piece transforms the wall on its own. Ball shapes spread a soft, even light. The Kena glass ball wall light, with an E27 base, is a direct example.

At what height should a wall light be installed in a living room?

There is no single height. The wall light is positioned so the light falls on the area to be lit, at shoulder height once seated, far enough from the sofa to avoid glare. Two wall lights are placed at the same height, on either side of a piece of furniture.

Two symmetrical wall lights on either side of a sofa or sideboard

Measure the gap between the furniture and the wall, then align both brackets at the same level and the same distance from the edges. A pencil mark on both sides prevents misalignment, which is very visible on a bare wall. Above a sideboard, the wall light illuminates the surface and the dishes without cluttering the room. The same principle applies to a hallway or a stairwell.

The shoulder-height test before drilling

Hold the fixture in place, with two people if possible, then sit where you will read or watch television. If the source falls in the line of sight, lower it or move the fixing point. Staircase wall lights follow the same logic, accompanying the rise of the steps.

Modern living room chandelier or wall light: which to choose?

A chandelier lights the centre of the living room, a wall light lights a specific area: the wall behind the sofa, the sideboard or the reading corner. The two complement each other, a modern living room chandelier on the ceiling and wall lights as support, to vary the mood without multiplying ceiling sources.

Living room chandelier and large living room chandelier: when to add a wall light

A large living room chandelier provides general light, but it leaves areas in shadow: behind a sofa, a wall corner, a tall piece of furniture. A wall light brings light back there without adding a ceiling point, which keeps the ceiling line clear. The choice is therefore made by area, not in opposition. The fixture that structures the room remains the ceiling light, the wall light handles the details.

Living room floor lamp and ball floor lamp: think in layers of light

Three levels are often enough: ceiling for general light, wall for fixed accent light, floor for movable light. A living room floor lamp or a ball floor lamp can be moved, a wall light cannot. For a reading corner, a wall light with an adjustable arm remains the most stable and frees up the floor.

Which paint colour for a bright living room?

For a bright living room, light walls reflect light better than a dark background. An off-white, beige or light grey shade lets the wall light do its job, while a dark wall highlights a gold or black finish and concentrates the light on the furniture.

Light walls, dark background: where to place a gold or black wall light

On a light wall, a dark finish outlines the silhouette of the fixture and a light finish blends into the decor. On a dark wall, the opposite happens: gold finishes stand out and reflect light downwards. A gold model also takes on a warmer tone on beige paint.

Dark living room: which finishes gain in brightness

In a dark living room, a light wall light is better, with a glass or acrylic diffuser that lets light through. Black wall lights are reserved for light walls. Frosted glass and acrylic diffuse widely, whereas clear glass creates bright spots.

Which base and which bulb for a living room wall light?

The collection mainly uses G4, LED, E27, G9 and GU10 bases, with a majority of LED models. Warm white light, between 2700 and 3500 K, dominates; neutral white and cool white also exist. Halogen is declining: LED equips the vast majority of models.

G4, G9, E27, GU10: recognising your wall light's base

The base is stated on the product sheet and can be checked on delivery. A G4 is a small low-voltage bulb, a G9 a bulb with short pins, E27 a classic screw socket, GU10 an adjustable spotlight. An integrated LED module cannot be replaced: the lifespan of the fixture then matters more.

Bases used in the collection and matching bulbs
Base Bulb Type of wall light Dimmer possible
G4 Small low-voltage bulb Compact or ball wall light Depending on model
G9 Halogen or LED bulb Designer or retro wall light Depending on model
E27 Classic LED bulb Ball or linen wall light Depending on model
GU10 Adjustable spotlight bulb Spotlight wall light Depending on model
Integrated LED Non-replaceable module Flat wall light Depending on model

Living room halogen: what LED changed

A halogen bulb heats up, uses more power and needs changing often; an LED gives the same light for less power and stays warm to the touch. On a G9 or E27 base, simply replace the bulb. On wall lights and wall lamps with an integrated module, the module sets the colour temperature: choose warm white for a living room.

From modern living room decor to the country chic wall light: which style to choose?

The selection is mostly contemporary and modern, with a few original, minimalist or jungle pieces. The style shows in the material: metal, glass and aluminium for contemporary, resin, linen, fabric, wood and rope for a country chic wall light or a jungle inspiration.

Original living room fixture: tube, ball and oval shapes

An original living room fixture is chosen as much for its silhouette as for its light. Tube shapes lengthen a narrow wall, ball and oval shapes fill a wide panel, round shapes work anywhere. In metal, metal wall lights play with fine lines, often in black or gold, with a single light point.

Country chic, jungle and natural material wall lights: wood, linen and rope

A country chic wall light borrows from wood, linen, fabric or rope, with light softened by the shade. These materials warm up a very modern interior. The Prestige Chic linen model, with an adjustable arm and dimmer, illustrates this register in a living room or office. For a crisper note, glass wall lights bring transparency.
