A glass wall light is a wall-mounted lamp whose diffuser is made of glass, clear, smoked, ribbed or opal: the glass decides the light, sharp or soft. You first choose the room and the socket (E27, E14, G4, G9 or LED module), then the format and the protection rating.

What is a glass wall light and what light does it give?
A glass wall light is fixed to the wall and diffuses through a glass. Clear glass lights sharply; smoked, frosted or opal glass softens and limits glare. The models in the collection use E27, E14, G4 and G9 sockets, or an integrated LED module, with warm white or cool white light.
Opal or frosted glass wall light, what light?
Opal and frosted glass spread the source over the whole surface of the diffuser: the wall receives even light, without a hot spot, and the bulb is not visible. It is the choice for a bedroom or a bathroom, where you want to see without being dazzled. These models go near a mirror or a headboard, about one metre from the eye.
Blown, fluted or ribbed glass wall light, when the glass draws the light?
Blown, fluted or ribbed glass gives the same level of illumination but draws the light: the ribs and the streaks cast soft shadows on the wall. A ribbed glass wall light becomes a pattern in its own right on a bare wall or a dark background, while smoked glass dims without hiding. Allow one model per wall rather than two side by side, to let the design breathe. To place the other shapes, browse all our light fittings and the family of glass wall lights.
Which glass wall light model to choose for each room?
In a living room or a bedroom, a wall light of 30 to 60 cm with an E27 or E14 socket lights a wall, a reading corner or a headboard. In a bathroom, choose a high protection rating, IP44 or IP45. In a toilet, a compact format of 25 to 30 cm in E14 or G9 is enough.
Living room wall light, what size for a large wall?
On a large wall, aim for 40 to 60 cm wide: Éclat Mystique measures 60 x 15 cm and the arc boule wall light Éclat Moderne 60 cm wide by 35 cm high, dimensions taken from their product sheet. One wide piece is enough above a sofa or a sideboard. On a very long wall, two identical models at the same height hold better than three different formats. Matte black structures, gold warms. Compare the formats in our selection of living room wall lights.
Design toilet wall light and bathroom wall light, what light?
In a small volume, frosted or opal glass avoids glare and enlarges the impression of space. A format of 25 to 30 cm with an E14 or G9 socket goes above or beside the mirror. In a bathroom, the Applique Boule Salle de Bain Moderne Luminance shows IP45, a G4 socket and 31.5 x 12 cm according to its product sheet: it holds near the water point. For an adjoining bedroom, prefer a bedroom wall lamp, lower and softer. The choice of bathroom lighting requires the same care with the IP rating.
| Room | Format and placement | Protection rating | Socket or technology | Dominant style |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | 30 to 60 cm, wall or reading corner | IP20 | E27, E14, G9, G4 | Contemporary, modern |
| Bedroom | 16 to 42 cm, headboard or wall | IP20 | G4, E14, dimmer possible | Modern, original, minimalist |
| Bathroom | 31 to 41 cm, near the mirror | IP44 or IP45 | G4, E14 | Contemporary, modern |
| Hallway and staircase | 40 to 80 cm, in rhythm | IP20 | LED, G4 | Contemporary, minimalist |
| Toilet | 25 to 30 cm, compact format | IP20 | E14, G9 | Understated, contemporary |
| Outdoor and terrace | Reduced format, on a sheltered wall | IP65 | LED 18W | Modern, contemporary |
Which waterproof outdoor wall light to choose for a terrace?
For outdoor use, the wall light must show an IP65 protection rating, a sign that it resists water spray and dust. Metal and aluminium combined with glass age better there. The LuminaNoir outdoor lighting comes in 18W, with warm white, neutral white or cool white light.
IP65, IP45, IP44, IP20, what do you need outside?
IP20 protects only against contact, not against water: it is the rating for a living room or a bedroom. IP44 and IP45 withstand spray, which is enough near a bathroom mirror or under a canopy. IP65 adds dust and water sprayed from all directions, so an exposed terrace or entrance wall. An indoor wall light is suitable only if the wall never receives rain.
Outdoor wall light for a terrace, height and direction
Place it around 1.80 m to 2 m from the ground, facing down or slightly towards the wall: a wall light that shines upwards under an overhang lights the sky and attracts insects. The Éclairage Extérieur Terrasse Design LuminaNoir is fixed in 12.5 cm according to its product sheet, which leaves the passage clear on a terrace or entrance wall. Spot the suitable models in the Designix light fitting catalogue.
How to recognise an original or boho chic wall light?
An original wall light is recognised by its shape and its material: ball, arc, water drop, ribbed or smoked glass, golden brass. The boho chic and country chic spirit comes from mixing glass, brass and rounded lines, rather than from heavy decoration. Matte black brings a more contemporary reading.
Vintage glass wall light and vintage wall lights, what codes?
Vintage wall lights play on amber or smoked glass, curved lines and a dark or golden mount. The water drop or ball shape does a lot: the Applique Murale Goutte d'Eau Cascade Lumineuse, 40 x 20 cm, sets the example. Clear glass, on the other hand, shows the bulb and takes on a rawer look. If you are looking for these warm tones, look at the gold wall light range and its finishes.
Murano glass wall light and glass and brass wall light, why gold keeps coming back
Hand-blown glass inspired old pieces, and its irregular thickness is still what catches the light. We claim no provenance: what you see is the glass and the brass. The ribbed glass wall light Lueur Précieuse, 25 cm, or Halo, glass and golden brass ball, show this warm contrast. For a sharper result, the black models calm the gold. The ball wall lights remain the most readable shape in this register.
Which socket and wattage for a powerful LED wall light?
Glass wall lights mainly use E27, E14, G4 and G9, or an integrated LED module. Wattage alone does not make useful light: the temperature also counts, 2700 to 3500 K for warm white, 4500 to 6500 K for cool white. A few models accept a dimmer.
Powerful living room wall light, wattage and temperature
A powerful LED wall light is judged on useful flux and distribution, not on the wattage shown. As a guide, the Éclairage Extérieur LuminaNoir is given at 18W, the circle wall light Éclat Moderne at 9W and Éclat Mystique at 12W, values taken from our product sheets: three levels designed for a wall, not for lighting a whole room. The socket limits the bulb you can install. See the integrated modules in the LED wall light family.
Warm white or cool white, which to choose room by room?
For a bedroom or a living room, warm white (2700 to 3500K) relaxes and flatters materials. In a bathroom, a hallway or an office, cool white (4500 to 6500K) gives a sharper light for getting ready or working. Outside, a neutral white is suitable. Most of our models offer both temperatures: check the product sheet.
