12v living room wall light: what you need to know

A 12 V wall light runs on low voltage and requires a transformer, often housed in the bracket or in the wall. The G4 base matches this setup, with a small LED bulb. The advantage lies in the slim profile and reduced thickness of the fixture; the trade-off is the space needed for the transformer. Check this point on the product sheet before drilling.

Original or designer wall light: which style for my wall?

The shape does the work: tube, ball, oval, round or square. A modern living room wall light is recognisable by its clean line and slim arm, often in black or gold metal. A more striking piece transforms the wall on its own. Ball shapes spread a soft, even light. The Kena glass ball wall light, with an E27 base, is a direct example.

At what height should a wall light be installed in a living room?

There is no single height. The wall light is positioned so the light falls on the area to be lit, at shoulder height once seated, far enough from the sofa to avoid glare. Two wall lights are placed at the same height, on either side of a piece of furniture.

Measure the gap between the furniture and the wall, then align both brackets at the same level and the same distance from the edges. The shoulder-height test before drilling

Hold the fixture in place, with two people if possible, then sit where you will read or watch television. If the source falls in the line of sight, lower it or move the fixing point. Staircase wall lights follow the same logic, accompanying the rise of the steps.

A chandelier lights the centre of the living room, a wall light lights a specific area: the wall behind the sofa, the sideboard or the reading corner. Living room halogen: what LED changed

A halogen bulb heats up, uses more power and needs changing often; an LED gives the same light for less power and stays warm to the touch. On a G9 or E27 base, simply replace the bulb.
