Plan on a dome or an oval 30 to 46 cm in diameter above a table, and a lower point above a worktop. The braided rope filters the light, the wood carries the structure, and the IP rating decides whether the pendant stays indoors or moves under a canopy.

Which hemp rope pendant light should you choose for your room?
Above a dining table, choose a dome or an oval Ø 30 to 46 cm so the light falls onto the surface. For a living room, a large dome or several light points. In a bedroom or hallway, a small diameter is enough.
Rope and wood pendant for the living room
In a living room, the pendant does two jobs: it fills the volume and provides ambient light. A piece Ø 46.5 cm like the Casablanca in steel and rope, with three E27 lights, fills the space without saturating it. Over a very large table, Daphne Noire with six lights covers Ø 95.3 cm on a single line. The wood pendants for living rooms bring these volumes together.
Rope and wood pendant light for the kitchen
Above a worktop or an island, the light must fall straight down. Rope Bois with four lights aligns its points over 100 cm long and 120 cm high, in E27, to light a stretch of work. A saucer-shaped model like the Ropéa Ø 40 cm suits an open table. The models designed for the kitchen and the LED for the kitchen gather these formats.
Rope, rattan, bamboo, wood: which material for which light?
Braided rope and rattan filter the light and spread it in patterns on the walls, while a closed dome concentrates the beam downwards. Wood and steel form the structure: they carry the volume, the rope decides the tone of the light.
Braided rope, rattan, bamboo: what the material changes
A tight weave in braided rope softens the beam and draws soft shadows on the ceiling. Rattan, lighter, lets more light through. The dome of the Rino lights widely, while the cone of the Testorena narrows the flow downwards. The bamboo of the Noreia plays the same role with a more golden tone. These weaves can be found in the pieces with worked designs.
Wood, metal, glass: when the structure stays visible
When wood, steel or glass remain visible, the light becomes more graphic. The Royer combines hammered glass with a natural cord and throws the light back in splinters. See also when wood meets metal. The glass and wood combined selection plays on the same contrast.

How do you place a pendant in the room?
A pendant is centred on the axis of the table or worktop. Its height is adjusted to light the surface without blocking the view of the guests: it is adjusted on the cable, higher for a large tabletop, lower for a worktop.
How do you create an offset pendant?
When the ceiling fixing point does not fall above the area to be lit, you shift the anchor and let a longer cable run to the light. The Noka linear bar extends from 80 to 150 cm, which leaves room under a tall room. The same principle can be seen in the shapes of the Scandinavian line.
At what height should you fix the pendant above the table?
In practice, you lower the shade to seated eye level: low enough for the light to fall on the plates, high enough that no one leans into the shadow. The adjustable cords of the linear versions and large pendants allow adjustment without cutting anything. A model like Rope Bois is adjusted during installation, between ceiling and table.
Can you install a rope and wood pendant outside?
Yes, provided you choose an IP54 rating and a covered location. In this selection, the IP54 models are intended for a terrace, a conservatory or under a canopy, while the IP20 models stay indoors, away from water splashes.
IP20 or IP54: how do you read the protection rating?
The first digit concerns dust, the second water. IP20 indicates an indoor light, protected against medium solid objects but not against moisture. IP54 adds protection against dust and water splashes: this is the marker to look for a covered terrace. The Cordella is rated IP54. This is also the case for the Aritorora braided oval. The Zia completes the list.
Terrace, conservatory, canopy: where to place a rope pendant?
Under a canopy or a conservatory, rope and wood age under cover, without direct rain. The IP54 models mentioned suit these locations, with ambient light above an outdoor table. Indoors, in dry rooms, the IP20 models take over, with the natural white finish for light volumes.
How do you make a wooden pendant light yourself?
Making it yourself means doing the wiring, the socket and the fixing, with the electrical checks that go with it. The pendants in this collection already bring together the braided rope, the wood structure and the socket, which avoids having to assemble the whole thing and validate each part.
Socket, cable and bulb fitting: what is already provided
On a ready-made pendant, the socket is mounted, the cable is connected and the fitting is indicated: integrated LED, E27, E14 or G9. All that remains is to choose the bulb when the model does not include its source, then to connect to the existing point. The Ropéa is happy with a standard E27 bulb. The wooden LED pendants need none.
When to prefer a ready-to-install pendant
Braiding a rope around a frame, holding a socket and redoing wiring take time and materials. An already assembled pendant settles these three points and leaves the choice of light to the socket. This is the case for the black versions as well as the light pieces in the selection.
What diameter and shape for a bedroom or hallway?
For a bedroom or hallway, a pendant Ø 18 to 38 cm lights enough without taking over the room, like the Daphne H 28.9 cm or the Royer Ø 30.2 cm. Above a large table or an island, a large dome or a linear version is preferred.
Compact pendant or large dome: reading the dimensions
The diameter indicates the footprint on the ceiling, the height gives its presence in the room. A Daphne H 28.9 cm in Ø 18.1 cm fits into a small volume. At the opposite end, the Daphne Noire of Ø 95.3 cm requires a large table. In between, the Casablanca at Ø 46.5 cm occupies a living room without crushing it. The collection has 32 rope and wood pendants, mostly bohemian in style with braided rope.
A rope and wood pendant as a bedside light
Above a bedside table, a compact pendant replaces the table lamp: it frees the surface and brings the light down to where you read. The Royer Ø 30.2 cm suits this use. A Daphne Ø 38.1 cm does the same in a slightly larger volume. The pendants for the bedroom and the pendants for the hallway gather these formats.
| Room | What is expected of the light | Suitable format | Source | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dining room | Fall on the surface without dazzling | Dome or oval Ø 30 to 46 cm | LED or E27 | Aritorora, Ropéa |
| Kitchen | Light a worktop or an island | Saucer or linear | LED or E27 | Rope Bois, Ropéa |
| Living room | Visual presence and atmosphere | Large dome, several points | Multiple E27 | Casablanca, Daphne Noire |
| Bedroom | Soft light, small footprint | Ø 18.1 to 38.1 cm | E27 | Daphne H 28.9 cm, Royer |
| Hallway | Close point, contained volume | Ø 30 to 46 cm | E27 | Ropéa, Royer |
| Covered terrace and conservatory | Atmosphere resistant to moisture | Dome or oval shape | LED | Cordella, Noreia |
LED, E27, E14 or G9: which socket and which light should you choose?
The socket determines the bulb: integrated LED when you do not want to buy anything, E27 for a standard screw bulb, E14 for small volumes, G9 for pin bulbs. The colour temperature then decides the atmosphere, warm in the evening, neutral for working.
Warm white or cool white: which temperature for a rope pendant?
Around 2700 to 3500 K, the light is warm and suits the living room, bedroom and meals. Between 3500 and 4500 K, it becomes neutral, useful above a worktop. Above 4500 K, it leans cool and is mainly used for work areas. The choice depends on the bulb fitted to an E27 or E14 socket. The models with modern LED lighting set this tone at the factory.
Dimmer: which models are compatible?
Only certain models in the selection are stated to be compatible with a wall dimmer. The Cordella is one of them. This is also the case for the Aritorora oval. To widen the choice, see the dimmable pendants.
How do you install and care for a rope and wood pendant?
The fixing remains the step to check: a braided pendant requires a solid anchor point in the ceiling. For care, dust the rope dry with a soft cloth or a brush, without immersing the material or rubbing the wood with an abrasive product.
How do you care for a rope pendant without damaging it?
A soft cloth or a soft brush is enough to remove the dust caught in the weave. Avoid water on the rope and linen, which can distort, and abrasive products on the wood. On steel and hammered glass, a slightly damp cloth does the job. The LED pieces with careful design are cleaned in the same way.

Frequently asked questions about rope and wood pendants
How do you place a pendant?
Centre it on the axis of the table, the worktop or the area to be lit, then adjust the drop on the cable: high enough not to hide faces, low enough for the light to fall on the surface. In a tall room, an adjustable cord allows adjustment without cutting anything.
How do you create an offset pendant?
An offset pendant is hung from the ceiling at a distance from the area to be lit, with a longer cable and a shifted fixing point. The model must allow a sufficient drop: the linear versions and long cords in the selection leave more adjustment room.
Can you put a rope and wood pendant outside?
Only under a canopy, a covered terrace or a conservatory, and provided you choose an IP54 model. The IP20 pendants in the selection are intended for indoors. Braided rope and wood withstand outdoor air under cover, not direct water splashes.
Rope and wood pendant light: what diameter for a table?
On a dining table, a dome or an oval Ø 30 to 46 cm covers the surface without overflowing, like the Ropéa Ø 40 cm or the Casablanca Ø 46.5 cm. On a large table, a multi-point version or a linear bar lights the whole length.
Do you need a special bulb for a rope and wood pendant?
It all depends on the socket indicated: models with an LED socket include their source and need no bulb. E27 and E14 pendants accept a standard screw bulb, G9 models a pin bulb. Simply follow the product indication.
