Allow a sphere of 28 to 50 cm above a dining table, and 12 to 25 cm for an entryway, a bedroom or a row above a kitchen island. The opal, smoked or clear glass then sets the mood, and the E27, E14 or G9 socket determines the type of bulb to plan for.
Which globe pendant light should you choose for each room of the house?
In the living room and dining room, a wide sphere spreads ambient light above the table. In the kitchen, several small spheres in a row light the worktop without blocking the view. In the bedroom and entryway, a smaller globe is enough. The room decides the diameter before the style does.
The collection data confirms it: living room, kitchen and dining room each cover almost all the references, the bedroom two thirds, the entryway a little more than half. The same sphere can therefore serve in several rooms, as long as you adjust the size and height.
Kitchen pendant and kitchen island pendant
Above a worktop or an island, spheres of 12 to 25 cm are lined up on the same axis, set at the same height. G9 and E27 sockets are the most common on these formats. The small pendant Halo 1 is 12 cm in diameter with 120 cm of cable, which lets you hang it alone or in a series. To go further, browse the models gathered in kitchen pendant.
Design bedroom pendant
In a bedroom, a single globe of 15 to 28 cm placed on either side of the bed or as a central pendant is enough. Aim for warm white light around 2700 to 3000 K and a source that does not throw the bulb back into your eyes. Ball and globe shapes largely dominate the collection, which makes it easy to match a calm interior. Find these formats in lighting a bedroom.
| Room | Format observed in the collection | Light points | Socket or technology |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Sphere of 35 to 50 cm, globe chandelier of 60 x 110 cm | 1 to 8 | E27, E14, integrated LED |
| Dining room | Globe of 28 to 40 cm above the table | 1 | E27, LED |
| Kitchen and island | Spheres of 12 to 25 cm in a row | 1 to 3 | G9, E27 |
| Bedroom | Globe of 15 to 28 cm | 1 | G9, LED of 8 to 11 W |
| Entryway and hallway | Sphere of 12 to 25 cm | 1 | G9, E27 |
| Staircase and large volume | Cascade of 60 cm, cable of 350 cm | 1 to 8 | LED, dimmer |
Globe pendant in opal, smoked or clear glass: what light effect?
Opal or white glass spreads an even light and hides the bulb. Smoked glass softens the light and lets the source show through. Clear glass gives a sharper sparkle and highlights the bulb. The choice therefore depends on the level of brightness you want and the mood of the room.
Glass is used in more than eight out of ten references, often combined with metal or aluminium. On the light colour side, warm white from 2700 to 3500 K clearly dominates, while neutral white and cool white remain marginal and depend mainly on the bulb you install.
Opaline globe pendant and opal glass
Opal glass suits places where you want to light without glare: bedroom, dining room, hallway. It removes reflections from the bulb and gives an even light across the whole surface. In this collection, white and clear finishes represent about a third of the references, against three quarters for black. An opal globe pairs well with a metal pendant from the same family of finishes.
Globe pendant in smoked glass or clear glass
Smoked glass brings a soft contrast and a graphic effect, suited to the living room and dining room. Clear glass, on the other hand, lets the socket and bulb show: it is a deliberate choice, with a bright result that lights strongly. Compare the two in glass pendants before deciding.
| Type of glass | Light effect | Rooms where it stands out | Associated style |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opal or white | Even light, bulb hidden | Bedroom, dining room | Contemporary, minimalist |
| Smoked | Softened light, graphic effect | Living room, dining room | Modern, contemporary |
| Clear | Sharp sparkle, visible bulb | Living room, entryway | Modern, industrial |
What diameter and height for hanging a globe?
The diameter is chosen according to the room: 12 to 25 cm for an entryway, a bedroom or a row above an island, and 28 to 50 cm for a dining room or a living room. Cables adjust up to 120, 125, 160 or even 350 cm, which leaves room under an ordinary ceiling as well as under a more generous height.
XXL pendant for a high ceiling
Under a high ceiling or in a stairwell, a small globe gets lost. You need a large diameter and a long cable. The Bollique cascade drops over 350 cm with a diameter of 60 cm and six LED light points, dimmable. A wide globe chandelier fills a volume without multiplying the ceiling fixing points.
At what height should you hang a pendant above the dining table?
In general, the bottom of the globe is placed about 75 to 85 cm from the tabletop, depending on the seat height and the size of the guests. Adjustment is done after installation, once the table is in place: cut the power, loosen the cable ring, adjust, tighten. A cable of 120 to 160 cm covers most configurations; beyond that, we are talking about great height. The question comes up less often for a pendant above the table.
Original light pendant or Italian design: how to recognise it?
An original pendant is recognised by its shape (ball, globe, spiral or star) and its materials, glass combined with brass, aluminium or painted metal. Italian design favours simple lines, large glass spheres and matte finishes. A crafted piece is judged by its proportions and its light, not by a label.
In the collection, modern style dominates, followed by contemporary; nordic, minimalist and industrial remain in the minority. Ball and globe shapes represent most of the references, while round, spiral and star make up the notable variations.

Look at the finish: matte or glossy, plain or textured. Count the light points, one for a globe, several for a chandelier or a cascade. Check the wattage and the socket before choosing, because the same silhouette exists in E27, E14, G9 and integrated LED. The most crafted models are found in design pieces.
Italian design light pendant
The Céleste sphere in brass and glass sums up this register well: slightly amber glass, a fine frame, an E27 socket and a piece that works from the living room to the kitchen. This type of piece is recognised by its right proportions more than by a logo. Compare the clean lines in design light pendants.
Modern living room pendant: which model for a large room?
Above a large table, a globe chandelier with several points covers the surface with an even light. For a staircase or a high ceiling, a cascade with a long cable and a large diameter fills the volume. In both cases, the aim is to occupy the space without multiplying ceiling fixings.
Modern living room pendant above the table
The Seni chandelier with eight globes measures 60 by 110 cm, runs on E14 and combines glass, metal, brass and black and gold fabric. Eight light points light the whole length of a reception table. A single globe of 35 to 50 cm works if the room is more understated. Modern style remains dominant in this family, which makes it easy to match contemporary furniture. Find more ideas in modern living room pendant. Ribbed glass models offer a retro and colourful effect, an alternative to opal and smoked glass.
Large room: globe chandelier or cascade?
The globe chandelier suits above a piece of furniture or a table, the cascade suits vertical volumes. The smoked glass and matte black pendant of 50 cm works in direct and indirect lighting, at 31 W, with a dimmer. The Globe-Black in black of 40 cm with 160 cm of cable suits a tall room. For a volume with several levels, a pendant with a long cable avoids multiplying fixing points.
Black, gold or white globe pendant: how to match it?
Black structures a light room and outlines the silhouette of the globe. Gold and brass warm up a dark wall or a wooden interior. White and clear glass blend in and suit small rooms. Smoked glass brings a softer contrast than black.
The collection figures confirm this balance: black accounts for nearly three quarters of the references, white a third, gold a little less than a third, smoked about one in six.
Black globe pendant
On a light wall, a black globe stands out and becomes a graphic element. It matches a kitchen with matte fronts or a white interior. The Globe-Black combines black metal and a gold interior, which warms the silhouette without making it heavy. To compare finishes, see black pendants.
Gold globe pendant
Gold and brass bring warmth, especially on a dark wall, deep wallpaper or wooden furniture. Brass needs little care: a soft cloth is enough, without abrasive products. These finishes remain in the minority in the collection, which makes them more striking. See the gold finishes and the white models for a calm room.
Can you install a globe pendant in a bathroom, and how do you install it?
The whole collection is IP20: these globes are intended for dry rooms such as the living room, bedroom, kitchen or entryway. For a bathroom or a damp room, you need a higher protection rating, IP44 minimum, which these models do not offer.
IP44 bathroom pendant: what to choose?
The IP rating describes resistance to dust and water: IP20 protects against medium solid objects, with no protection against water, IP44 against splashes. A bathroom therefore requires a specific light fixture, not an IP20 globe. For adjacent dry rooms, a hallway and entryway pendant or a model from modern bedroom will be perfectly suitable.
How do you remove a light globe?
Cut the power at the circuit breaker and let the bulb cool down. Then support the sphere with one hand: depending on the model, a ring or a central nut unscrews and the glass comes free from the socket. For care, a soft dry cloth on the glass is enough, without abrasive products. Replacing an E27, E14 or G9 bulb remains simple; an integrated LED version cannot be changed.
How much should you plan for a globe pendant and how do you choose?
The hierarchy is simple: small glass and metal spheres are the most affordable models, while brass, chandeliers with several globes and large cascades sit higher in the collection. The current price is shown directly on the grid. On the technical side, the wattages recorded range from 8 to 31 W for LED versions, up to 40 W on bulb models.
To choose, start from the room, then the diameter, then the socket: that is the order that avoids buying another bulb or hanging too high. Payment is secure, delivery is tracked, returns are possible and the Designix customer service answers dimension questions before ordering. Order your globe pendant by checking the diameter and cable length on the model page.
Frequently asked questions about the globe pendant light
How do you remove a light globe?
Cut the power at the circuit breaker and let the bulb cool down. Support the sphere with one hand: depending on the model, the ring or the central nut unscrews and the glass comes free from the socket. Put the globe back while holding it until fully tightened.
Which pendant should you choose for a kitchen?
Smaller spheres are preferred, often lined up above the worktop or the island, to light without blocking the view. Formats of 12 to 25 cm and G9 or E27 sockets, in clear or opal glass, are the most suitable.
What is called an Italian design pendant?
The term refers to pendants with clean lines, often in glass and metal, with simple shapes such as the sphere or the cylinder. They are recognised by their careful finishes and generous proportions. Check the socket, the diameter and the protection rating rather than the label.
Which XXL pendant for a high ceiling?
A large diameter and a long cable are essential. The 60 cm cascade with 350 cm of cable is designed for staircases and large volumes, and globe chandeliers 60 to 110 cm wide fill a tall room without looking lost.
Globe pendant in smoked glass or clear glass, what is the difference?
Smoked glass softens the light and reduces the glare of the bulb, which gives a cosy mood in a living room. Clear glass lets all the light through and makes the bulb visible, with a brighter result. Opal, for its part, spreads light evenly while completely hiding the source.
