Start by measuring the area to be lit and the ceiling height: a 200 to 390 mm disc suits a living room corner, an entryway or a bedroom, while a large 490 or 640 mm format holds a spacious room. Brass returns a golden light, softened by glass or alabaster, and the cable length is adjusted during installation.
What light does a brass ceiling light give?
Brass returns a golden light that warms the room; combined with glass or alabaster, it diffuses a soft and even illumination. The models in the collection are mostly equipped with LED, several light in warm white from 2700 to 3500 K, and a large part accept a dimmer.
Brushed brass or golden brass
Brushed brass keeps the warmth of gold with matte reflections, which softens the light and makes everyday marks less visible. A more polished brass returns sharper reflections, as in our selection with golden finishes.
Opal glass and alabaster
Opal glass and alabaster diffuse light as a halo instead of letting it pass through. The glass models light widely without dazzling the eye looking at the shade. The source matters as much as the material. On the bulb side, the LED versions keep this softness with contained consumption.
In which rooms to install a brass ceiling light?
Brass fits everywhere: it first dresses the living room, then the bedroom, dining room, kitchen and entryway. In a damp room, only models rated IP44 are suitable; elsewhere, the IP20 rating covers the vast majority of the collection.
Living room and dining room
These are the rooms where the fixture stays in sight the longest. A living room pendant is placed above a sofa or a reading corner. For the table, the fixture is lowered and aimed wide: see the models designed to light a dining table.
Kitchen and bedroom
In the kitchen, the shape matters less than cleaning: a smooth glass is washed in one gesture. The guide to hang above a worktop details this point. In the bedroom, the opposite is sought, a low light without glare, which the bedroom lighting covers well.
Kitchen pendant: which brass model above an island?
Above a worktop, look at the shape, the cable length and the number of light points: two or three aligned lights illuminate a long surface without glare. A smooth glass is easily cleaned in a room where you cook every day.
Italian design kitchen pendant
The work on the shape distinguishes a signed piece from a banal model: thin disc, iron and brass structure, blown glass. The signed design pendants play on these volumes. For a long worktop, the Plaat three-light pendant distributes light above the island.
Original kitchen pendant
Moving away from recessed spots does not mean complicating installation. The contemporary style kitchen pendants are fixed to the ceiling like any other fixture, with a cable adjustable to the desired height.
XXL pendant for high ceiling: which size to choose?
Under a high ceiling, you need a diameter that holds the distance: the large discs in the collection range from 490 to 640 mm, compared to 200 to 400 mm for a standard height. The adjustable cable length allows lowering the fixture to the right level.
Vintage brass pendant
Round shapes and large domes recall industrial pieces, except that brass warms the whole. The ball pendant and the metal models assume this presence without overloading the room.
Ball or tube
The ball concentrates light at one point and suits a tall room; the tube, elongated and of small diameter, lights more widely. Both are height-adjustable, the ball on a few tens of centimetres of cable, the long tube on nearly two metres.
| Format | Dimensions | Recommended room | Type of light |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 mm disc | Diameter 200 mm, height 192 mm | Entryway, kitchen, small living room | White, dimmer |
| 290 mm disc | Diameter 290 mm, height 152 mm | Living room, bedroom | Brushed brass, dimmer |
| 390 mm disc | Diameter 390 mm, height 152 mm | Living room, dining room | Glass and brass, dimmer |
| 490 mm disc | Diameter 490 mm, height 55 mm | Dining room, large living room | White alabaster |
| 640 mm disc | Diameter 640 mm, height 55 mm | Large room, high ceiling | White alabaster and brass |
| Long tube | 153 x 8 cm | Kitchen, dining room | G9 socket, warm or cool white |
Brass chandelier or pendant: how to choose?
A brass chandelier multiplies the sources and becomes the centrepiece of a large room; a brass ceiling light illuminates a specific area, such as a living room corner or a table. The Seni globe chandelier, with its eight glass balls on a black and gold frame, illustrates the first case.
Brass chandelier with multiple light points
Several bulbs distributed illuminate the whole room from a single fixing point. The Seni globe chandelier and its eight balls is placed in a dining room or in the centre of a living room. The rest of the pendant range covers one or three light formats.
Single light pendant
A single source hangs lower and frames a use: worktop, bedside table, reading corner. It is chosen for its beam, not to replace the general lighting of the room.
IP44 bathroom pendant: does brass withstand humidity?
Brass does not fear ambient humidity, but not all models are suitable for a wet room: the vast majority of the collection is rated IP20, reserved for dry rooms. In a bathroom, an IP44 rated model is required, protected against splashes.
Understanding IP20 and IP44
IP20 protects against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm and against no liquid: this is the level of a living room or bedroom fixture, and that of almost all pieces in the Designix lighting universe. IP44 adds protection against water splashes, which a bathroom requires.
Which bulb in a damp room
The fixture socket determines the choice: G9 for small bulbs, E27 for common formats, E14 for fixtures with glass balls, integrated LED when no bulb is replaceable.
Brushed brass fixture and Italian design: what does it change?
Brushed brass keeps the warmth of gold without a mirror effect: the light is softer and marks less visible. The work on the disc, glass or alabaster makes the difference between an original pendant fixture and a common model, without changing the installation.
Original pendant fixture
What is seen first is the silhouette: a large flat disc, a glass sphere, a fine iron structure. The modern style models play on clean lines, a single material highlighted.
Brass and glass pendant
Glass brings a clearer light, brass the warmth around it. The Hampton glass and brass pendant illustrates this duo, with its cable to adjust during installation.
At what height to hang a brass ceiling light?
The cable length supplied varies by model, from a few tens of centimetres to two metres, and is adjusted during installation. Above a table, the fixture is lowered enough to light the surface without obstructing views; in a hallway, clearance is kept below.
Height above a dining table
Generally, the bottom of the shade is around 70 to 85 cm above the tabletop, depending on the table width and disc size. The wider the fixture, the slightly higher it is raised. A hallway pendant is on the contrary placed high enough to let shoulders pass.
Maintenance of brass and shade
A soft cloth is enough on brass; abrasive products that scratch the brushed finish are avoided. Glass and alabaster are dusted dry, without dismantling the fixture, with the circuit breaker off.
Socket, dimmer, warranty: how to choose without making a mistake?
The right choice comes down to four points: the socket (G9, E27, E14 or integrated LED), the light temperature, the presence of a dimmer and the warranty. The material and shape come next, to match the fixture to the room.
Which socket for which bulb
| Socket | Light points | Light temperature | Dimmer |
|---|---|---|---|
| G9 | One or more bulbs | Warm white 2700 to 3500 K | Depending on model |
| E27 | One or more bulbs | Warm white 2700 to 3500 K | Depending on model |
| E14 | Small bulbs, ball fixtures | Warm white 2700 to 3500 K | Depending on model |
| Integrated LED | No bulb to change | Warm white 2700 to 3500 K | Depending on model |
Dimmer and warranty
A large part of the models accept a dimmer: practical for lowering the light in the evening without changing bulbs. The pendant fixtures in the selection are covered for 2 or 3 years depending on references. The D290 brushed brass pendant is dimmable, like the Zambelis D640 alabaster pendant for large rooms.

Frequently asked questions
Modern living room pendant: which model to choose?
In a living room, the choice comes down to diameter and material: a 290 to 390 mm disc suits a living room corner, a large 490 or 640 mm disc for a spacious and tall room. Glass diffuses widely, alabaster softens, the dimmer modulates the atmosphere.
How to choose an XXL pendant for a high ceiling?
Under a high ceiling, choose a large format so the fixture remains readable: the 490 and 640 mm discs in the collection, or the 153 cm tube pendant, whose cable length is adjusted during installation to lower the light to the right height.
An IP44 bathroom pendant, how to choose it?
The vast majority of brass pendants are rated IP20, reserved for dry rooms. For a bathroom, an IP44 rated model is required, which protects the installation from water splashes, combined with a bulb suited to the fixture socket.
Brass chandelier: what difference with a pendant?
The chandelier multiplies light sources and becomes the centrepiece of a large room; the pendant is organised around a single point or a few aligned lights, to illuminate a specific area. The Seni globe chandelier brings together eight glass balls on a black and gold frame.
Brass and opal glass pendant, what does it change?
Opal glass diffuses light instead of letting it pass through frankly: the halo is softer, without direct glare, and brass brings the golden warmth around. It is a common choice above a table or in a bedroom.
