A G4 LED bulb is a miniature two-pin capsule that clips into a G4 socket: it fits wall lights, compact ceiling lights and slim chandeliers whose housing is too narrow for a screw bulb. This collection brings together white 1.5 W capsules in warm white 2700 to 3500 K, in metal, IP20, guaranteed for two years. The collection has 3 products for sale.
What is a G4 LED bulb?
A G4 LED bulb is a miniature two-pin capsule that clips into a G4 socket, where a screw bulb will not fit. The LED replaces the filament: at 1.5 W it gives off little heat and disappears behind frosted glass.
A cuttable LED strip is cut only on the printed cut marks, then connected with a suitable connector.
The format is deliberately short: 3.8 cm high, 0.9 cm in diameter. Enough to slip into a narrow housing without protruding from the shade. The base is metal, the colour white, the light sits between 2700 and 3500 K, and the protection rating is IP20.
In the selection, the white 1.5 W Lucide G4 LED bulb illustrates this capsule format. A model this small serves as an accent point: it does not replace the main lighting of a living room. For a classic screw-in bulb, head to the LED Bulbs collection.

What is the difference between a G4 and a G9 bulb?
They are two different pin bases, not interchangeable: the G4 is a tiny capsule with closely spaced pins, the G9 is wider with pins further apart. Before ordering, compare the fitting's socket, the available voltage and the space left in the housing.
G40 and G45 LED bulbs: screw-in globe bulbs, not pin capsules
The names G40 and G45 refer to globe bulbs, meaning a round shape, mounted on a screw thread. They have nothing in common with a G4 capsule: neither the same socket nor the same size. A fitting that requires a G4 will never take a globe, and the reverse is also true. For this type of model, look at E14 bulbs or E27 base bulbs.
GU5.3, GU10, E14, E27: recognising a base at a glance
The table below helps you decide in seconds, before taking anything apart. The capsule comes out by pulling straight, the others screw in or twist a quarter turn.
| Base | Shape | Power supply | Where you find it |
|---|---|---|---|
| G4 | Capsule, two closely spaced pins | Depending on the fitting, often via transformer | Wall lights, compact ceiling lights, spotlights |
| G9 | Wider capsule, two pins further apart | 220 V mains | Chandeliers and decorative fittings |
| GU5.3 | Spotlight, two pins | 12 V | Recessed spotlights |
| GU10 | Spotlight, two bayonet pins | 220 V | Spotlights and tracks |
| E14 | Fine screw thread | 220 V | Small lamps, wall lights |
| E27 | Wide screw thread | 220 V | Lamps and ceiling lights |
If the socket is wider than the capsule, there is no point insisting: you need to move to a G9 base. On a recessed spotlight, look instead at GU5 LED bulbs.
G4 LED bulbs 12V or 220 volts: how to know before ordering?
A G4 bulb does not work indifferently on 12 V and 220 V. First look at the fitting: is there a transformer, or is the socket connected directly to the mains. A 12 V capsule placed on 220 V is destroyed instantly, and the reverse gives no light. The transformer label settles it.
G4 LED bulbs 12V: the role of the transformer
On a recessed spotlight or a track, a small stepped-down box is often housed behind the ceiling. Its output is written on it, in volts. If the output shows 12 V, the capsule must be a g4 led 12v, and you should also check the total power the box allows. Compatible references are found in the 12V LED bulbs for transformers and, for models with a similar base, in the 12 volt bulbs.
G4 LED bulbs 220 volts: when the socket is connected to the mains
If no transformer appears and the socket comes directly from the room's circuit, the supply is 220 V. The capsule ordered must then be designed for that voltage. The clue is simple: no intermediate box, no 12 V. The rest of the catalogue for this type of installation is in the 220V LED bulbs.
Once the voltage is confirmed, all that remains is choosing the model: the white 1.5 W Lucide G4 LED bulb clips onto a G4 socket at 3.8 cm high and 0.9 cm in diameter.
Which fitting to light with a G4 LED bulb?
A G4 LED bulb fits fittings whose socket is small and housing narrow: wall lights, compact ceiling lights, slim chandeliers, recessed spotlights and accent lamps. Its discreet capsule is barely visible behind glass or an openwork shade. It is chosen for an accent light point.
LED wall light and LED living room wall light
A hallway or living room wall light looks for a low halo on the wall, not a projector. The capsule will sit behind the diffuser, almost invisible. There are two things to check: the socket must be G4 and the housing deep enough for the capsule. To match the whole, start from the fitting that will take your capsule before ordering the bulb.
LED ceiling light, modern LED ceiling light and LED kitchen ceiling light
On a compact ceiling light, the capsule provides an accent above a worktop or in an entrance, provided the socket is designed for it. The maximum power is often printed inside the fitting: that is what sets the limit, not the desire for light. A ceiling light for a large room generally needs another, more powerful base.
LED chandelier, LED living room chandelier and LED ceiling lighting
On a slim multi-arm chandelier, the G4 brings a discreet sparkle, almost a point of light. Count the sockets before ordering so you can equip every arm at once, and keep the same temperature throughout. For a living room mood, the living room bulbs complete the choice. More ideas can be found by browsing all the fittings.
G4 LED bulbs 5W or 20W: which power to choose?
Power is chosen first according to the fitting's socket and transformer, not according to the desire for maximum light. This collection offers a 1.5 W capsule, enough for an accent point, a wall light or a compact ceiling light. A 5 W or a 20 W only goes in if the fitting accepts it.
G4 LED bulbs 5W: when 1.5 W is not enough
When the fitting is a little far from the wall or the room lacks light in the evening, a more powerful capsule can be justified, provided the socket is designed for it. The useful reflex: read the fitting's label, then check the total power supported by the transformer if there is one. A capsule that draws too much heats up an undersized box.
G4 LED bulbs 20W: check what the socket can take
A capsule of this power is not found in every accent fitting, and for good reason: the socket, wiring and transformer must keep up. Before considering such a bulb, check the rating on the fitting, then adapt. The full guide to powers is in the LED Bulbs collection.
G4 LED bulbs cool white or warm white: which temperature to choose?
Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, gives a slightly golden light, the light of a living room or bedroom in the evening. Cool white, higher in kelvins, leans towards plain white and suits a worktop better. The G4 capsules in this collection are all warm white.
Warm white 2700 to 3500 K: living room, bedroom, reading corner
At this colour temperature level, the light rests the eye and brings out warm materials, wood, fabrics, tinted plaster. It is the natural choice for a bedroom wall light or a living room chandelier. Those who prefer more amber tones will look at 2700K bulbs, and those who want a very slightly crisper warm white at 3000K bulbs.
Cool white: in which rooms it is preferred
Above about 4000 K, the light becomes whiter and supports concentration on a worktop, a workshop or a technical reading area. On a mood fitting, this rendering often seems harsher. If the colour of the fitting matters as much as the light, the selection of white colour bulbs matches the white base of the capsule.
How to install and maintain a G4 LED bulb?
Switch off the power, let it cool, then remove the capsule by pulling straight on its two pins, without twisting. The new one clips fully in, pins aligned. Being IP20, the bulb stays in dry indoor areas: neither a damp bathroom nor outdoors. A dry cloth is enough for maintenance.
Changing a G4 capsule without forcing the pins
The capsule is held by simple friction in its socket. Grip it by the edge of the body, never by the pins, and pull towards you. If it resists, a ring or clip is holding it: release that before insisting. When refitting, the two pins go in aligned, with no play. The fitting must be switched off at the breaker, not just at the switch.
IP20: why it is kept away from a damp bathroom or outdoors
IP20 means the product is protected against fingers and solid objects, but not against water splashes. In a very damp bathroom or on a terrace, this capsule has no place. For these uses, turn to outdoor LED bulbs designed for humidity. A dry cloth is enough to dust the capsule in place, without any product.
Order the right capsule, then install it
The two-year warranty covers the capsule, and Designix customer service answers before purchase if any doubt remains about the socket or voltage. Once the voltage and housing depth are confirmed, the white 1.5 W Lucide G4 LED bulb clips in within seconds. Frequently asked questions about G4 LED bulbs
What is an LED bulb?
An LED bulb lights thanks to diodes, without a filament: it gives off little heat and handles repeated switching well. On a G4 capsule, the LED replaces the fitting's original small halogen, with a warm white rendering in this collection.
Which G4 LED bulbs 12V should I choose for a spotlight with a transformer?
Note the output voltage written on the transformer: if it is 12 V, you need a G4 capsule designed for 12 V, otherwise it will not light. Also check the maximum power allowed and the number of spotlights powered by the same transformer.
Can a 220 volt G4 LED bulb be replaced by a 12 volt one?
No, the two are not interchangeable. A capsule designed for 12 V connected to a socket wired to the 220 V mains is destroyed immediately, and a 220 V capsule on a 12 V transformer gives no light. The voltage is read on the label or the instructions.
Are there cool white G4 LED bulbs?
Cool white sits higher in kelvins, with a whiter, sometimes bluish light. The G4 capsules in this collection are all warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K: a golden light, suited to a living room or bedroom rather than a workstation.
How do I change a G4 bulb without breaking the pins?
Switch off the power and let it cool. The capsule comes out by pulling straight towards you, without twisting, gripping it by the edge of the body. If it resists, look for a clip or ring holding it rather than forcing the pins.
